Need a bit more information,
What Radio do you have?
What ROM do you have?
If it is stock, what version of M2D did you install, and what patches?
Did you install a different dialer?
As for diamond 2, good question. Don't be in to much of a rush to spend money though. The hardware specs haven't changed and any new software that comes with it will probably be ported. Unless you really want M3D.

Touch Pro 2 may not be out until October, and I'm sure it won't be here in the US until after that. As far as the apps go, it doesn't matter what apps you put on their, but they may not like the custom ROM. I had mine exchanged through insurance with the leaked 6.1 VzW ROM. Just make sure you do a hard reset to clear everything and put the most generic Sprint ROM you can, or flash back to the original.

Depends on how you define hardware, I guess. Instead of 4 GB built in storage, there is now an SD slot. There is twice as much RAM and twice as much ROM. The screen is .6 inches larger though has the same resolution. It has the vaunted new "zoom bar" though we'll have to wait and see how much of a wow factor that is. The camera is 5.0 megapixel vs 3.2, there are 5 more audio formats supported (ok, that's probably more software spec than hardware), 7 new video formats are supported, 1100 mAh battery rather than 900, FM radio, and G-sensor.
Other than that, not much change in the hardware specs

It's always tricky predicting availability, but I would expect based on HTC's news release that it will be available not later than June (more likely May) in Europe, and October in the US. However, there's no promise that Sprint will carry it that I know of.

I think if I were you I would download the 10 day evaluation of Sprite Backup, perform a full backup of your device, then hard reset it and see if you still have the problems. If so, you can have it fixed in the factory default state, and restore your backup back to your current configuration.
If the problem goes away in the default state, then it is likely that something you have installed is causing the problems, and you'll be money and time ahead investigating the problem yourself, and not have to worry about whether Sprint will honor their service agreement with your phone in its current condition.

No it went through fine, sent it in about 4-5 months ago. I'm not even sure they look at the phone, except to check the problems are there. They probably send them back to HTC for repairs.
Hi all,
Maybe a little late in the game but my T8285 is on it's way. I'm on ATT in Hawai'i so hopefully shouldn't have any problems. Quick question. Did most of you flash your ROM right off the bat or did you use it for a while before doing so?

Best advice I can offer you is get to know your device as it is first. Read up on the wiki and just enjoy your phone. Not everyone flashes a new or cooked rom and most people don't change rom until they find something wrong with it or just fancy the look of another device.
I didn't flash a other rom right away. I just started getting to know my phone first like Fallen Spartan said and learning more about the whole flashing scene. I think I flashed my first rom after about 3 or 4 weeks.
I wanted to enjoy an unspoilt phone for a bit, and it was my first Windows Mobile phone... I lasted about a week

Warranty period in different countries vary. Some countries its 3 months, some its 12 months. To wait 12 months can be extremely hard for people
the telstra rom internet setting are locked in and don't work on AT&T so I flashed a custom rom the day I got it. I mean come on, if you gotta flash a rom anyways, might as well make it one of Miri's!
Got my HD yesterday and got it all set up. Playing with it using the stock ROM. Stuck in my SIM and all works no problem after inputting the ATT settings. The only thing that I can't do (which will probably make me flash the ROM) is that Opera browser is locked to Telstra so I can't use Opera unless there is some registry setting or something I can change. Anyone know how to change this? I can use IE though.
Just gonna use it with the stock ROM and find all the quirks that bother me and see if a ROM flash is needed. I'm sure I'll have some questions though and I have been going thru the HD wiki.

P.S. Got my HD thru modernmobile.ca and must say the experience was good. Very responsive to email inquiries.
Well i want to put a HTC Hero rom on my T-mobile MT3G 32b device. I came across http://theunlockr.com/. I watched the rooting video here and the rom installation here.
Well i know that my device is the exact same as in the video so i pretty much can't mess up the procedure unless i am completely useless as a human being.
Well i just want to know even if i do the procedure correctly if i can brick my phone? My GF was kind enough to buy me the phone for our anniversary about a week or 2 ago and yeah i love it but would like a hero rom. I just don't want to make my gift into a paper weight and get the misses angry at me for ruining a 250 dollar phone that lasted about 3 weeks.
Thank you for your time it is much appreciated.
its well worth it to go ahead and do it i actually hated the phone in stock form and wanted to get rid of it but after i installed the HERO Rom i actually love the phone, FYI i traded a iphone 3g for this phone and hated it with the original t-mobile software and wanted my iphone back but after the HERO rom upgrade i love it.
there are only two steps in the rooting process that can brick your phone that i know of.
the first one is while updating the SPL and the second one is while updating the RADIO.
once you get those two things to the right versions then you cannot brick your phone. you can install/uninstall as many roms as you want as long as you don't mess with the SPL or RADIO.
also, if your doing the one-touch root just make sure your phone doesn't turn off or the battery die while its working, then you could brick your phone.
and its definitely worth rooting to put the hero rom on there.
alright thanks for your replies they are much appreciated yeah i think i will go ahead and do this then and will make sure my battery is fully charged =D.
One More question how often do you have to update the spl and radio. or are they one time only things? I am new to this so just wanna make sure i don't mess anything up.

Since you are on the MT3G you do not have to worry about changing the SPL or radio. Just perform the one-click and then load the rom of your choice.
If you plan to run Hero then be sure to get a class 6 microsd and use the rav recovery image (part of the rooting process) to format it with 3 partitions. It will be an option when you go to recovery mode. I actually recommend a 128mb linux swap but that requires some manual partitioning and I'm not sure if you are prepared for something like that.
I have loaded just about all the roms and I still have the original spl and radio.
Oh alright ill be sure to look into that. Thanks again for all your help.
Hi guys
Hoping someone would be kind enough to take the time out to answer some questions I have regarding my HD2 on T-Mobile UK and how I go about modifying it etc
Please bare with me....this is the first smartphone ive ever had and am totally new to all of this! :S
1) Does the fact that its locked to T-Mobile (and has some form of their own software on it) mean I am unable to make use of the many updates or software tweaks that appear on this site?
2) I see people talking about Manilla...is this the software HTC place on top on WM6.5?
3) I see a lot of people talking about flashing their ROMs....what does this actually mean? Is it possible for me to get rid of all T-mobile crap on my phone and be able to apply updates, fixes etc whenever I want?
4) I know of some people who have Jailbreak their iPhone allowing them to run loadsa different software on it etc....is something similar possible on the HD2?
5) Basically it all comes down to the fact that I dont like the basic taskbar look on my phone (really want a colourfull taskbar and some form of % battery indicator) and want to make it look a bit more modern/exciting....and Ive seen loadsa uploads on this site about other users homescreens etc and want to know how i go about doing that? Im not sure if having a T-Mobile HD2 will stop me from modifying it in that way?
Would really appreciate any help/advice anyone is willing to give.....the site seems very oriented to people who know what they're doing lol and im struggling to find a section for novice users like myself! I really like that idea of having a phone I can customise whenever I like.....just not sure at all of how to start going about it......
Cheers!!!

The fact that it's locked to T-Mobile doesn't affect the majority of software on here. Sometimes, there'll be discrepancies between what's expected on your phone, and what's actually on your phone. This will be rare, and usually resolved on here anyway.

Yes - Manila is the Sense UI.

Flashing the ROM changes the core of the phone. It's often done to do exactly what you said - to get rid of the software that's there by default, but you don't want it. Another more common reason for ROM flashing, is ROM updates that include software fixes (as just happened with 1.48), or windows updates.
4) I know of some people who have Jailbreak their iPhone allowing them to run loadsa different software on it etc....is something similar possible on the HD2?

You don't need to "jailbreak" windows mobile. Question 3 covers this really.

Having a T-Mobile phone won't stop you changing that at all. Just get used to these forums and searching them and you'll find most things you need. There's certainly taskbars on here. You're better off looking in either the root Leo forum (one step above this forum), or the themes and apps one. Also, the Sense UI has a lot of mods in other forums. The Blackstone, for example, had the Sense UI available in a ROM way before the HD2 was released, so that's also a good source of information.
Just keep reading and you'll be fine. We were all new here once
Have fun!
Thanks very much!! appreciate it!

just wondering why I wouldnt want to apply ROM updates and windows updates? would it not be better to do this than wait for official updates from T-Mobile that will prob take forever to emerge?
I've seen on some forums that there is already an official (yet not appearing on the HTC site) HD2 ROM upgrade....but are you saying you advise against this? Or are u saying I dont want to change the core of the phone....but applying updates etc is still possible?
Sorry, excuse my ignorance!
Cheers
I don't understand why you think I'm advising against ROM updates, but I'm not
Basically, it's up to you to weigh up whether or not you want to do a ROM update by looking at what's new and what's removed (if anything).
As far as waiting for T-Mobile to release their own version of the ROM.... yeah, you're right. I wouldn't bother.
I've just updated my HD2 with the 1.48 release, and it's a LOT faster. It's still new though, and a couple of issues have already been found. It's always "at your own risk" whenever you flash the ROM or install mods.
can i ask you what come in the box with tmobile handset, carry pouch? micro sd? an such. and did you get it from tmobile themselves or a phone outlet like carphonewarehouse, thanks in advance

hi....sure! no probs...
i got the handset (obviously lol) charger and micro usb lead (which is quite short and frustrating actually) also got a 2gb micro sd card! There was no pouch - although as far as I am aware HTC supply a pouch...which t-mobile (and all other networks as far as im aware) remove....to force u to buy one! So i bought the official HTC leather one online for £10 - which is quite nice!
I just walked into a t-mobile store in glasgow and asked for the phone...and they had it! i had been arguing all week on the phone with t-mobile upgrades and retentions.....they wanted to charge me £380 upgrade charge as i have a 50% line reduction.......but when i walked into the store they done it for me for £50!!! and kept my discount!!!! so now i get 1000mins, unlimited txts and internet for £20 a month! if ur looking for the phone and dont get quoted a good deal keep shopping....there's always someone willing to do a good deal!
happy times all round!

Sorry - you're absolutely right. You can't upgrade with that ROM. The experts on here are working on something called "Hard SPL" which basically allows you to flash any old ROM you want, regardless of your ROM version at the time.
The ROM that's bouncing round at the moment is an official HTC one, and can only be used on phones that aren't locked to providers.
Since it's a new phone, I'd recommend getting used to it and the available mods on here. You don't need to be able to flash the ROM to install most of the mods, so you can still tweak your phone like mad!

hi thanks for quick reply
am glad you get micro sd, they could of threw the pouch in too LOL, oh well suppose its not that expensive. (know what you mean bout charger cable, same with diamond2 lol) i`m with orange at the mo there not releasing the phone on there network at all i dont think, got my diamond2 from carphone warehouse 10 months ago. its been put in for repair 2 times already due to touch screen failure, last time i put it in it got sent to htc who declared the warrenty void because of certain applications on the phone and have demanded £70 to fix even though i pay insurance every month. decided am not paying gonna cancel direct debit as it was nothing to do with software why i put it in, in the 1st place, think its ridiculous! i`d flashed a cooked rom on my phone and unblocked it with hard spl, i reflashed original htc rom before putting it in the shop but forgot to reblock my phone again, thats what they mean by CERTAIN APPLICATIONS. so beware if flashing your device with non htc rom and you have to claim on insurance for anything, you have to reflash everything back to original htc factory software/roms. to be honest hard spl(unblocking programme to flash any rom) is not out there yet for hd2, i dont think. but just a little tip for you..
by the way lol, i cant seem to get my hands on a hd2 anywhere, there like rocking horse sh#t!! lol am getting really bored watching videos about the device on pocketnow.com now tho Grrrrrrrrrrrrr lol i NEED one soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
just had an email from tmobile, apparently its on its way!!!!!!!!! yaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Erm you can flash the newly "released" Official HTC WWE ROM using the goldcard method. I did so on my T-Mobile HD2. The benefit of doing so is to regain the applications T-Mobile removed like You-Tube, CoPilot trial and Jetcet print. Also you get the advantage of being able to flash future patches directly from HTC, instead of waiting for T-mobile to get their hands on them and break it.

Hey buddy, did you manage to flash your rom then?
Like you I'm very new to this scene (coming from an iphone) so just wanted to know if you had successfully flashed your rom. Which rom did you use because I can see a lot of different versions of this 1.48 and don't know which one to use.
Surely if you flash your rom and it shows the youtube app as well as copilot, tmobile will void your warranty wont they???

not sure regarding the warranty issue....id think so....tho if i had to send it in for repair (touch wood i wont) then id just restore it back to its original version 1st....

Should rename the title to "My POS HD2".
Not all HD2's are unstable like yours.
I, task29, install t-mobile radio 2.10.50.26, install energy 23569 cht and the phone is insanely stable and very fast, faster than 2.13 rom.

Have you tried using a different ROM? I have tried Energy ROM and it froze up on me a couple of times. I then switched to Elegancia 8.5 and I couldn't be happier with performance and stability, as well as eye candy. Only times it gives me trouble is when I do something stupid or install a CAB file and it doesn't like the ROM. The ROM itself is great, at least for me. I recommend you shop around and see what happens.

When I first flashed the ROM it had the problems but not as bad. But then later it got worse.

if its that bad you should be getting a replacement. There are two sets of hd2 problems (based on what people have been posting since i started reading in jan)
those who have a few rom basede glitches, like jittery keyboard, sleep of death, etc. which can be solved by flashing, or tweaks etc, and those whose phone, whilst showing similar effects to the first set, are far worse, and dont respond to tweaking.
If its a new phone, and its as bad as you say, dont fanny about with flashing and what not, get it replaced and start fresh.

Both of us are using the 2.10
Hey drift. I gotta go with sam's thoughts here and say that if it were me experiencing what you are, I'd probably be taking it right down to the store and getting a replacement. Just remember to get everything stock again first. Push if you have to, to make sure you get a new one and not a refurb.
One more question, before you punt it back...have you tried running it without the SD card in it at all? I'm not confident the issue is there, but since nothing else seems to be working, if you could try it and see if there's any change that would be awesome.
p.s. I think RDR will be my next ps3 purchase

Well I don't know that the problem will be there, but I've seen in a few examples where taking the card out actually clears up wonky behavior of various types. I just thought it was worth a try before returning it, and I wanted to just add your results to my collective troubleshooting experience on this phone.
There's a few card-releated thinks that can cause your phone to misbehave (bad card, etc), and this is just the best way to make sure we eliminate anything having to do with it. Hate to have you replace a whole phone if all it needs is a new card. But, like I said, there's still a pretty low chance it'll help

I was having similar issue on my stock ROM and could not get it past the boot screen. I took my SD card out (sometimes had to do that to my wing) and it let it boot. As soon as it was booted I did a factory reset and it was good. This was when I first got the phone and was putting all kinds of weird stuff before I actually began doing a little research. Hahaha. But yeah new T-Mobile ROM and Cookies and running like a champ!
At this point I doubt there are refurbs floating around. Too new. Isn't there something you can dial in to show you whether it's a refurb or not from your phone key pad?# something or other?

Well ive tried every step I could to try and fix it nothin work so maybe its bad hardware im sending it back and there send me a new hd2 so will see as soon as the new one gets here how good that one works.
Refurbs are indeed around, but mostly only coming from T-Mobile Customer Care as warranty replacements for phones in need of exchange that are beyond their initial remorse period... Definitely confirmed on this one.
