I've been searching for a good theme generator that will do landscape and vertical views, but didn't find anything that works like I want it to, so I searched for some themes that I liked but didn't find anything 100% appealing so I decided to try to make them from hand. What I did was download a theme with a good color scheme for the taskbars and used winace to break it down into it's 3 seperate files 2 of which I found can be opened in Paint so I edited those and saved them as the same exact file name and so on and so forth so that in the end everything was the same except for the actual embedded images but when i install the theme it looks the same as before i messed with it. the only thing i couldnt edit was the third attached document with would not open in paint but appeared as broken text with some symbols in notebook. If anyone else who's tried this and succeeded can offer any advice that'd be awesome. Thanks.
Try Themegence and see if it does what you're looking for.
Thanks I'll give that a try I was just shocked that what I was trying actually didnt work, cuz in theory it should. But whatever if this program is good i'll use that.
Heres my first TF3D theme. I was going to change more of the icons/buttons etc but just didnt have the time....Feel free to make additions to it, you got a month left
If you dont know how to install .theme files search for tf3d config
btw, thx to NisseDILLIGAF for his blood lol
looks great man! i love the icons
Having trouble using this cool theme
I downloaded the file, I unzipped the file, I extracted the file to my PC. I use XP. I copied the extracted file to my phone's internal memory under Pictures and I can't see it when I look for it in my phone.
Also, I can't open it on my PC, it says it's not "a valid theme."
Any suggestions? Total NOOB question, I know, but that's what I am at this point with this phone.
Thanks! Ellen

You need to change the last part in the name halloween.zip to halloween.theme
And you also need this app TF3D config, to set it as your theme. You'll find it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405749

WOW....love this theme, nice little touches like the spider webs behind the program icons, little pumpkins on the favourite people, great icons, grave stones and all...well done...10/10
Glad you liked it
My wife loves this theme on her diamond!
HE HE.....last night I checked my weather and on the full moon clear sky image is now a small witch on a broomstick....brilliant theme....just so fun...

Wow. Maybe I'm just cursed but nothing is working. I changed the name of the file as you suggested, still nothing. Windows claims it is not a valid theme file.
Then I downloaded Diamond TF3D Config Setup v0.6.7.CAB per your advice above, and I can't find anything to open THAT file, either.
I had the Instinct prior to this phone and I am afraid the Diamond is waay over my head with regard to tweaks. I sure would like to come up to speed, though. I am using the Sprint issued Diamond with the burgundy flat back. If that makes any difference.
Can anyone help me with this? I want so much to be able to tailor this phone with cool themes, etc.
Thanks! Ellen
i love this theme very much thx for sharing
Absolutely kicks butt! Sprint Diamond users, delete tweak.xml from TF3D folder to make app work.
I love your Theme!
Odd, though, the last number on my clock flips back and forth from old format to new theme. What do you suppose could be causing that?
And I found my installation solutions here: Originally Posted by ellenincolorado

i have no background, and everything is off center, all the icons, the clock, it's weird
clock question
how do i get the orange background on the clock??? is the back ground is the blue default exept for the number!! help plz =p
great theme
as a nightmare before christmas fan is that the best theme fo me. but is it possible to create a cab only for the tf3d slider icons? i love it and i need it rolleyes:
Hi,
I was missing some small clocks that do not block the TF3D background too much.
To solve my "problem" I just created two versions in black and white. One with a semi transparent clock background and one without a clock background.
The actual numbers are a little far away from eachother but experimenting getting them closer gave some nasty image conflicts. If anyone has an solution let me know and I update the clock.
If you are looking for any other color let me know and I get it done for you.

EDIT: 23 Nov 2008
Version 1.1
Available colors in zip:
Black
White
Updates:
Used a bit better readable font
Updated positioning
Fixed Lower Curtain error
To Do
Change distance between numbers
Make Semi Transparent flip smaller
thank you very much
Very nice but...
... I can't get it to work with Sprint theme. Still have the Sprint clock BG and the : between the numbers
hi thanks for ur clock
But I got one problem after installing ur clock, the touch flo bar at the bottom turned into a thinner style after I have installed ur clock. how can i change it to normal style? thanks
The idea of smaller clock is brilliant, but these are just too small

Like mentioned in the readme you should use the diamnond config tool from susilange to restore to original files from you rom. If you do a quick search on the forum you should be able to find the tool to restore your TF3D. Before you restore can you post a screenshot for me to see what happened as it works good on my end. I would like to fix it for eveyone.
@jonson10
I guess that it works different for the sprint rom. I will take a look at this and see how others have get it to work for the sprint ROM.
@usper
I'll take a look at making them a little bigger for you

Find the files that are in the zip in your \Windows folder on your device.
Delete them and soft-reset. They will restore from the ROM.

@ dickenz
Thanx for the follow-up. this is indeed the best thing to do when the diamond config does not do the trick. Weird however seeing that the config tool deletes all the manilla files and restarts so it will be reinstalled from the ROM and should solve the problem.
@ jonson10
I'll take an other look at the issue somewhere today. Which clock did you use the clock with the glassclock background or the one without background? Let me know so I can take a better look at it. There are some files in the glassclock BG that could cause this but I need to know for sure you are using this
i like the idea of a smaller clock, but with the border around the clock still being the same size it eliminates any reason i had to download it i dont suppose you could reduce the size of the border around so the calender etc are pushed up more into the center of the screen?

Works fine with original manilla theme
these look really good, but they are too spaced out, is there anyway to get the clock that size but with less space between the numbers?
another idea i have is, if you used the ones with no background and removed the numbers too!!
NOONE has made an invisible clock yet and it would be the best way to get a full wallpaper
i would really like the invisible clock.
would this be possible?
thanks for your help and your small clock <- EDIT i have just realised how bad that sounded lol sorry
i like your clocks however i am having trouble installing it..i am using Resco explorer to copy the files in the windows directory but i get the following error:
First it says that the destination file is in ROM and that i can damage my system if i continue. After i click on yes i get the following:

i tried searching for this but i couldnt succeed until now...

Created some updates on the Small Clock You can down load version 1.1 from the first post. Update history is also listed there.

Did you setup the resco explorer to overwrite all files? You can do this under Menu\Options\General than under the tab Files check all boxes and select Copy.
Let me know if that did the trick.
thats how it was set up but it didnt want to work..anyway, i used total commander and it worked..
Ok good to see it was solved any way. It is weird as I use the Resco myself and do not have this issue :-S
Anyway it is solved so that is the most important
Really great work!
What I would really love, is the transparrent one, but with white digits insted of black.
Could you do it?
Pretty please!!!

This is for those of you that have made themes, or know how to make themes in Spb or TouchFLO. I'm looking for a detailed process as to what files get changed, and where they get changed, in order to create themes for these interfaces. I tried a search and got crap results, so I'm sorry if this has been posted elsewhere already.
While I still don't personally have an X1, I would like to make a nice Theme Creator-type program similar to the good ol' Sony Ericsson Theme Creator. Ideally, this would make the process of pushing out new themes as simple as possible, and everyone could have nice, quality themes for their X1.
If, when you post instructions on the theming process, you could attach an example theme, that would help for comparison-debugging as well. Cheers!
there is no theme aditor for TF3D like you want it
Manually select files and replace the images and hope you don't mess up your theme is the only way to go
search for manila editor/m9editor to do so.
good luck

You completely misunderstood my post. What I want to do is create the program that lets you edit the themes, and what I was asking for was detailed information on what files need changed, and how they need to be changed.

I would gladly make such a theming program if someone would tell me how the themes are formatted and structured, what images went where (along with image restrictions, such as their dimensions).
I don't even own an X1, so it's hard to write software for it when I can't really operate on one, but a theming program such as this could run on a generic Windows OS, and create themes to be transferred to the X1, which is very doable if I know what it is I need to make.
aaah.. my bad understanding
as for the TF3D.. there is no real theme you can load it's a compilation of files one can edit.
There are 478 images that can be edited and positioned to get the whole theme look in place. To explain here which goes where and how isn't possible.
What you can do is download itje's full hd cab and extract it.
Then with the mode9editor from 6Fg8 view the files and get to understand the structure.
manila full hd cab

I'd love to help out with the theme creator for TF3D with the SPB i have no experience (didn't like it much).
If you'd want to do it proper I think you'll need to make some kind of emulator for the TF3D interface so you have instant feedback when changing things.

I think it would be possible, albeit time-consuming. Is there a different resource which does explain which goes where and how?

Unfortunately, this alone doesn't help me understand the structure (the mode9 editor seems crash prone and seemingly doesn't understand most of the files in the CAB, and with several BMPs it complains about the headers). I really just need a detailed source of information that says what files get changed, and what they represent (remember also that, since I don't have any phone that can run TF3D personally, I can't go around experimenting with changing files to see what affects what. I need to have a clear documentation of the file structure).
Ofcourse it's possible.. but not for me
Unfortunately I don't have that time
if you check the mode9 files you'll see most of the placement of the qtc files.
The mode9 is actually only for the _manila files.. and yes.. double clicking needs to be prevented
But without a way to test it .. I give you little hope..
Have been searching for weeks for all info one 1 sheet to find my way around.. it's not here to my knowledge.
trail and error is the only way..
but maybe i'm a pessimist
good luck!
Ok...
Here we go...
Well to change TF3D themes you must edit files called Manila Files. Each file has an image inside it. in some cases (mode9) they stand for actual functions. Once these files are opened, using manila editor, you find the image files. (they are in QTC format). You must then replace "your" image files with the QTC files. This is done with the QTC converter built into manila editor.
Here is where you can download the manila files.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3143701&postcount=28
and here is where you can download manila editor:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=414861
hope it helps
that 0.2 manila editor is more solid but gives lesser image quality then the mode9editor that is in development now.
but yeah... it doesn't crash
If it helps,
here's a thread that contains a psd file which mapped out the entire manila interface and is easily batchable by the mode9editor.

So, I've been searching for a few days now... in order to find a suitable SPLASH SCREEN and BOOT ANIMATION to replace the T-Mobile USA standard, "Stick Together"... and the similar animation that follows. I haven't really come across anything that has been reported to WORK PROPERLY and NOT turn the device into a fancy paperweight. I'm wondering if anyone has found an alternative set of SPLASH SCREENS and BOOT ANIMATIONS that are compatible with the T-Mobile USA model, if so... I would greatly appreciate your assistance, or at least a point in the right direction.
Now, with that said... I'm also trying to figure out if there is a REGISTRY EDIT that can be made to ENABLE the BOOT ANIMATION once more, as I have disabled that function using BsB Tweaks v1.6 - and when I tried to enable the feature again, it does NOT work, even after the obvious soft reset that follows.
If anyone has insight on this topic, please don't hesitate to offer your advice. Thank you.
i've been wondering the same thing, without any results. Also looking for decent apps for the HD2. everything looks like the old windows mobile though.
I had the same exact problem when I used BsB Tweaks. The problem is that when you try to turn it back on BsB enters the wrong filename in the registry and thus it cannot be found and loaded.
What you need to do is to use a regedit tool and go into "HKEYLM\Software\HTC\HTCAnimation" and change the value for "StartupGIF" to "\Windows\startup480-800.gif". Reboot and you should be back to the way it was.
If you want to change the animation you can put any animated 480x800.gif in "\Windows\" and point to it with the above specified registry edit.
To find animations I did a google image search for .gif files and specified the image size to be 480x800. You should find a lot. I put the original HTC quietly brilliant startup animation and a couple others and went back to the original one. BTW, you can change the shutdown animation by changing "ShutDownGIF" in the same registry location.
Good luck and let me know if you need more info.
Sorry, I forgot to mention how to change the other startup pictures.
There is basically 3 startup screens that can be changed on the TMOUS HD2 (probably also Euro/Asia version too):
#1- First static screen that shows the magenta TMO square and text
#2- Second animated screen that I explained how to change above
#3- Third static screen with the windows mobile logo.
As far as I can tell #1 (first screen) can only be changed via ROM flash.
Again, #2 explained in previous post.
To change #3 (third and last screen):
Place two identical 480x800.png files (make sure it's .png) named "xxxx.png" and "xxxx.192.png" (change xxxx to your filename) in "\windows\" and point to it by changing the registry value in "HKEYLM\Software\Microsoft\Spash Screen" change "CarrierBitmap" to your "\windows\xxxx.192.png" file and "MSBitmap" to your "\windows\xxxx.png" file.
I made my own .png that shows my contact info and increased the "CarrierTimeout" and "MSTimeout" so it would show a little longer. Long shot in getting it back if lost, but it can't hurt, and it can't easily be removed unless they know what they're doing.

Thank you very much for all of this information.
Now, I'm curious as to how I am supposed to "point" or direct said files via registry? Do I need to store the .gif and .png replacements on my SD CARD or DEVICE? And once I've edited the registry with the EXACTLY MATCHED NAMES of the replacement files; will the device permanently "look" to that directory and LOAD the images/animations from that location?
Thanks again.
Oh, and I almost forgot...
I was looking for something like this, however... I cannot just "install" these .CAB files to alter the Booting Animation, or could I?
Here's the thread that has the ideal animations:

When I say point, what I mean is that when you go into the registry key, for example "HKEYLM\Software\Microsoft\Spash Screen" and you click on "CarrierBitmap" you'll change the value to "\windows\xxxx.png" so now it's "pointing" to that file. Hope that makes sense. I'm sure it'll be clear when you go into it with your regedit software. Your basically changing that particular registry entry to look at the file you specify, like a shortcut.
All these files need to go into your "\windows\" folder on your phone, NOT your SD card.
Until you change the registry manually or by flashing a new ROM it will permanently "look" at the file you enter in the registry.

Those are great, I've used them, so I know they work.
Forget the .cab files and do it manually via the method I explained. You can right click the animation in that thread and save it and rename and use as I specified. You can also download the file you need instead of right clicking, get the .gif file not the .cab from that thread.

Thanks once more for all of the instructions.
I'm going to give this a whirl. It's my first time ever messing with such modifications. I used to create and flash alternative boot animations and splash screens on my Android devices, but this will be my "cherry popping" moment on the Windows Mobile platform. AWESOME!
I'm quite certain others will find your advice very useful as well.
You're welcome.
I would suggest anyone doing this should keep the original files as is in case you ever need to go back for whatever reason. Basically, don't delete the original files, just rename the new files and "point" to them.

I think some work. The problem with some of the cabs is that they were made for the Euro/Asia HD2 and the path and files in the US HD2 is different. That's why when you turn off the animation and turn it back on in BsB it does not work.
Quick question
Excellent directions and I have now put in some really cool animated .Gifs and JPEGs however I neglected to write down the name of the original Splash screen files that were for "Carrier Bitmap" and "MS Bitmap" In case I HAD to revert.
Do you know these?

I don't understand, can someone make a usa Tmobile HD2 cab file with the htc animation??? please? It would make my life easier!
I'd just like to replace them all with black versions because I often start my phone in low light, and the 100% default brightness is often a retina-cooking extreme.
Initial boot Black background/HTC Green logo.
Is that an option?

READ the first few posts, and you'll find every detail necessary in order to alter the animations and splash screen. After reading it, RE-READ IT!
It took me about two or three times of reading it to gain a thorough understanding of the instructions.
You don't learn to hack... you have to HACK to LEARN!
The only thing I have left to change is the initial splash on startup, and since that has to be changed via flash, does anyone have a black version with custom RUU?
The other two I have changed successfully, but that initial splash is still white.
