I was recently looking at the HTC TouchPro threads, not because I am bored with by Shift, but because I was looking to upgrade my O2 Zinc phone (I am a person that has a "multi level" approach to mobility), and I noticed something called TouchXperience. It is at the following website:
http://www.touchxperience.com/
It looks interesting. Hell, it looks good. So I was wondering if anyone knows if this would work on the Shift (once the ROMs are ready), or is it too much for the small ROM/RAM section of the machine?
Though the Shift does not have some of the gucci aspects of the Touchpro, the concept could work really well on the Shift, IMHO anyway.
Thoughts? Opinions?

hello
im thinking of getting the hw6945 as a replacement for my wizard. there are couple of reasons that i havent done yet and this is y:
1. there are no unlock methods, sim and app.
2. not enough user support.
3. no new roms aku3.3.
4. no wm6.
5. current rom is sluggish.
is there a better forum for the ipaq or is it that this fone isnt that famous amongst ppl.
Please let me know asap since i need to make a decision now.
The sluggish part I can't really deny - but it's called the "swiss army knife" of pda/phones for a good reason. Rumors had it that the HP lineup was going to get the wm6 upgrade, which makes sense since the 69xx series is the "flagship" line and they usually have an upgrade path - most recently with the 47xx series. People will tell you that the 65xx wasn't upgradeable but that's because the 69xx was already in pre-production when wm5 was announced. I believe that's the reason why the 69xx is so slow - they just loaded it up with the new OS without upgrading the cpu. From what I understand the specs for wm6 isn't so high as to make the device any more sluggish.
There isn't much user support, but it's a business model not really for hacking.
What's in the new ROM that you want??
I believe it comes unlocked in many parts of the world.

i didnt know that they called the hw6900 series the swiss army of all PDAs. even if they did how come not alot of ppl have it or talk about it. i mean comparing to the wizard, there is so much support for it. anyways, what makes me confused is i love my wizard, but it has been with me for more than a year and i wanted to get another phone. i was thinking about the jasjam but since its the same concept at the wizard, i started to look for something else. you big screen, q keyboard, gps. the hp has all these but then it doesnt have what made the wizrd fun, and that is formating and trying out new roms. how do u like yours and have you had another windows fone other than your hp?
I try to limit myself to one pda/phone gadget at a time. I had the wizard and the magician before that - jasjar never excited me, it's just too huge and in the end you have to be able to talk on the phone without looking like you're holding a brick to your face. The only other phone I would use instead of the hw6965 would be the new treo 750. I'm pretty pragmatic really and I enjoy the good hack as much as the next guy, but the older I get the more I like my things to "just work" as opposed to messing around with it all the time. Treo doesn't have wifi or gps but I like the form factor. The wizard isn't really practical in my opinion - you always have to slide out the keyboard (which means that you are only allowed to be in landscape when you type) and consequently you have to use 2 hands.
with the upcoming launch of new wm6 phones, I'd hold off on any purchases if I were you.

I have had both the 8125 and 8525. I then recieved the HP 6925 from Cingular and I haven't used the others since. In fact I just sold my 8525 on ebay. The 6925 is amazing. The GPS rules and can used with most GPS programs. The keypad works great and the screen cover is perfect. The only thing is that HP is really slow with rom updates. The processor is faster then the 8525 however you take a hit on the screen. Calls are clear and I love using one hand to make calls. I no longer slide out the keyboard. I am very happy and iPAQ's are built to last... Hope this helps..

ok,,,, finaly out of my 18 month contract and can now get something new and shiny to replace my ageing N95
Was looking seriosly at the Touch HD....... but now the Hero has come along and i cant decide what to do ;0(
I know a little about windows mobile... but nothing about Android...
I just want a nice phone with a good screen... ( i belive the Hero is capacative which is better than resistive? or nicer to use at any rate.. )
But with the Android OS... can i still load in 3rd party apps and software like i can with my N95 symbian OS?? ,, i have things like Garmin XT route GPS program and things like that? can that all still be used on Android phones? or are they more like the iphone and can only take specificaly written stuff for that OS?
If you were buying your first Touchscreen atm... what would you choose out of the hero or Touch HD?? or is there somethign else i should maybe be considering?
Many thanks

Call me old-fashioned, but I'm wondering if it is possible to have Windows Mobile on HTC Hero - not as a dual boot, but instead of Android?
Are there any chefs out there developing Windows Mobile ROMs for the Hero?
I currently have HC Diamond and have been a very happy user of Makevaral's BsB ROMs, but I am getting HTC Hero on upgrade so I'm wondering if I can get WM on it.
I didn't put this question in the "Android Development" forum because it's not the development of Android that I am asking about.
Thanks.
Not possible, there are other threads on it if you search.

Old-Fashioned !
since there are (from the hardware specs point of view) great winmo phones, why would you want to go through the trouble of putting winmo on a hero? the hero is a great phone, but if you want winmo (god knows why...) just get a winmo phone, you'll save yourself a lot of trouble.
this is not bashing, this is asking why.
1. don't get the Hero if you're happy with windows mobile. no point.
2. get the Hero and forget about that crap.
ex owner of Diamond here
Sent from my Hero using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
winmo is immposible to install on hero becasue of hardware and kernel ..
Why would you want to spoil your Hero by installing an outdated clunky OS, that MS are soon abandoning? I used to have the TD - the Hero is just so much better for both hardware and software.
As others have said if you want to stick with WM there are plenty of HTC WM phones out there - get one of those instead of the Hero
buy a fake chinese hero which is identical to hero (I think - only saw it on a video) and has winmo 6.5 pro
Thanks for your answers.
The reason I was asking is because I've taken Orange up on an offer of a HTC Hero free as an upgrade. I was initially going to sell it because of my old-fashioned nature and wanting to stick with MS. But then I thought of asking about the ROM just in case.
"an outdated clunky OS, that MS are soon abandoning?" - I hope you are right, that MS are indeed abandoning it in favour of Windows Phone 7. I hope it's a complete re-write of the code, rather than what MS usually do and regenerate old code and put it into "new" OS's.
Thanks
I might have a play around with the Hero to see if I like it.
Windows mobile 7 is completely new, but will not work on any existing handsets.
back to android.
Android is great, fully customisable and there is no reason not to love it.

Exactly what happened with me - it was going on Ebay and I was keeping the TD, until I made one mistake and did this

One little play and I was hooked.
In use the capacitive screen is so much better - do not believe those who say it is a worse screen because it has less resolution. In fact ease of use of the screen is the one thing that I always envied iphone users for when I watched them swipe easily between screens without ever accidently switching on an app.
And Android, especially with HTC's SenseUI, is much better than WM. Because of the WM interface (which HTC did their best to hide) I used my TD mainly as a phone and did not get the best out of it because of that. Now I use my Hero for a lot more. And I have not missed my old stylus one bit - I just let my fingers do the walking.
Let us know how you get on with your little play - try the market and see how easy it is to get all sorts of weird and wonderful apps that you never realised you needed, but you will find indispensible once you've got them. I bet you will be androided.
Good design, GREAT processors, fast.....and CRIPPLED at the OS level. Sad.
OK. YOU now know where I stand.
My question is: "For those of us who are more capable than the typical iUser, is it possible to load WM6.5 on the LG Quantum or ANY WM7 phone?" ...seems like a logical solution to me... OR is Microsoft going to release "WP7 Pro" and "WP7 Ultimate" for the low price of $250.00 (w/ a $50 mail-in rebate).
I am currently rocking a Tilt2 with the Energy ROM and loving it too. HOWEVER, I can see that WM6.5 would benefit from a faster proc so,....I`m admittedly jealous.
I have been watching the posts hoping that someone, feeling as I do but far more capable, would get fed-up and find a way to get M6.5 onto one of these new devices. When the Tilt 1 & 2 came out it took (roughly) two weeks before ROMs were being released for us to test. Is there something about the new devices which makes the same thing harder?
I`ve played with the new WP7 phones and I`m NOT impressed with the dumbed-down homescreen.
I waited to buy both of my Tilts until I found a ROM I liked.
I gotta say that you might be alone in this. They're just two completely different OS's. wp7 is built for phones, and built for people who want a no fuss, no muss experience, much like the iPhone. 6.5 is built for the enthusiast who wants all the options. However 6.5 is built like a desktop OS, so it performs and looks like crap. Instead of going through all that trouble, why not just get an HD2?
I have an Omnia 2 with stock 6.5, and I can't wait to switch to wp7. I'm just sick of the upkeep. I don't want to have to check the task manager and watch my RAM consumption. I don't want to go through installs where I have to navigate a file browser. I want something that... "just works". The iphone looks very boring to me, and Android isn't what I want, wp7 for some reason is like the only thing going right now that suits that need.
I agree. i am holding off on an upgrade as i am also using a tilt 2 with cell pro 13.5 Rom with sense 2.1, even overclocked to 710 Mhz just isnt enough. I havent heard any thing i like about wp7 other than hardware and as far as an HD2. Some of us can't stand to not have a hardware keyboard. or mabey thats just me as my last 5 devices have had one.
WP7
This operating system, is too friendly, at first I felt as encapsulated by the Zune and other applications, but processing and speed of the phone is the reward for the lack of knowing where the files or apps are. Although it is agile, quick, surprisingly, compared with 6.5, it lacks that extra "thing" we always had for know more than normal on these devices.
I just transfered to AT&T. And I am not impressed with this WM7 crap. So yea, I might be interested in downgrading to WM6.5 until microsoft gets their head on straight. This was the only phone avalible with a keyboard and good specs. No HD2 avalible for me I'm afraid. Any reason this wouldn't be feasable?

I really gotta ask, what on earth makes you say "WM7 crap"?? It's miles above any other OS on the market today. MS really did take the next step in smartphone OS's.
Sure it's got bugs, but it's v1.0, and those are just things that need to be patched. The overall idea and layout of wp7 is genius.
Well for one the almost complete lack of custimization, I don't aregue that its probably a very good OS as far as that goes, but I do not like its lack of features. I'm not even worried about the bugs. MS deciding to be more like apple is, well disappointing, had I wanted an Iphone I would have bought an Iphone. I want to choose what programs I put on the phone, NOT MS. I could give a crap about thier sensitive file system. I choose windows based on thier past OS, I figured WM7 must be even better, but its a step backwards in usability for ME.
Again, I love the Hardware of this phone, I love the keyboard, hate the OS. Would like to see if 6.5 could be ported to it (its got the same processor as the HD2 right? I'm not a programmer so I don't know what else is needed to adjust the OS)
I too, think 6.5 deserved better hardware. I get more done on my TP2 than I can on my paper weight Blackberry.
I don't think it's possible to get a port of WM6.5 to the LG Quantum due to the lack of drivers for WM6.5 (I'm pretty sure that a Windows CE 7 nk.exe can't be used with programs that are designed for Windows CE 5.2.xx.xxxx). On the other hand, we will have to keep our eyes open for when it gets closer towards Microsoft releasing Windows Phone 7 (Enterprise Edition) to see if we can indeed do anything with it.
Hi all,
So I'm a happy owner of a windows mobile HTC Maple/Snap. This phone rocks and is holding its own as a great mix of functional and powerful design amidst the newer generations of Android and Windows phones. It can be a hotspot, a gps, feed me news and rock playing music. But - as the development of windows mobile has faded off I would like to get myself a similar phone that can run one of the new operating systems. Although I love the tinkering that I've done with it (thank you xda), I feel like I'm missing out on the app revolution.
I loathe the design and OS of a blackberry (I currently need to use a bold for work). Blackberries have cramped keyboards and have an OS that I think makes winmo 6.5 look hip.
Has anyone heard of another HTC or Android phone coming along as a successor to the Snap/Maple ? I really do want a nice keyboard but don't require a huge candybar touchscreen.
Looks like HTC heard my cries. The HTS status looks like a dignified follow up to the snap.
What do you guys think?
