Hi.
I need some advice but don't know if this is the best place to ask.
I got a Trinity for almost a year and appart the lack of support from HTC and the known problems, I'm very happy with it.
Now I have the chance to keep it or change it for a Touch Cruise (Polaris) paying almost nothing.
My question is what do you think about the better choise. The specs are almost the same, of course the Polaris has double of the memory, touchflo, better cam, radio, etc., but how about problems and reability. I read some people with bluetooth problems, etc.
Here on XDA forum, we got to many resources for Trinity, but the Polarys has less resources for now, talking about cooked ROM's, etc.
What are your advices?
Thank's to everybody for all your opinions
We already have a thread about Trinity and Polaris (which you jut used to post to). No need for another thread!

I'm just curious, why do you guys flash your ROM? doesn't it cause problems later on? I know some people say it is faster but does a fragment of speed merit the change?
No offence to ROM developers, I've flashed my ROM but the question is merely there for speculation and to get the Polaris forum a little more active.
In my case:
1) I hate localized software (though I'm neither English, nor German)
2) Don't like branded ROMs - they're usually loaded with lots of crap and are slower (thank god I don't have an Eten - they come with trialware !!! )
3) Usually a newer ROM is better and more stable, and operators like O2 release ROM updates only once/twice per year...
4) It is fun (Well, not fully, since you have to reinstall all software after reflashing )

Simple answer: Why not ? ;-)
In fact, flashing the ROM of his device mainly give the opportunity to have much better device than the original. A good example is the HTC Touch (ELF). Even if customers have report numerous of problem, HTC haven't yet issued a ROM update for the French ROM. This is a good example and answer to your question "why flashing a ROM".
Polaris is a brand new device. We can expect a reaction from HTC (if they react) in the next months. During this time, you've the choice to
1. Live with the bugs until HTC decide (if they) to fix it
2. Use a cocked ROM to make your device (much-much-much) better
Of course, Flashing a ROM is always at risk for the user. Example with mine. I've ordered a Polaris in French. Actually the official French ROM isn't available. If I've a problem with my device, the warranty is down because I've flashed my device with an unsupported ROM.
On top of this, flashing is (for me) a nasty game ;-) It is dangerous but I like it !
I have noticed a performance increase with Hermes but I don't know whether this can be true for Polaris? Is the difference major?
If it is, warranty or not, I'll flash...

Of course the Difference is always NOTICEABLE because its meant to make your device function a lot better in more ways than what comes with the original ROM's.

With the Bepe ROM the Polaris is 1.5 tome more faster (surely due to the Windows Mobile 6.1 layer).
And, for a "preview" as Bepe say, I find this really stable. Of course, things can always be better. For this, we have to be patient or...
...learn on how to cook ... ;-)
I subjectively feel a quite noticeable speed improvement with the WWE ROM over the previously default German O2 Orbit 2 ROM. I noticed (and htcclassaction is big on that) a high impact on TomTom. TomTom worked alot smoother on the O2 ROM.
But I dont mind that, so I'm happily waiting for a HTC or cooked German replacement ROM while using the WWE on my Orbit 2.
Hey folks,
I've tried searching and there's no forthcoming result on this (despite that I suspect it *must* have been covered somewhere) - perhaps it's my dyslexia?
Anyway:
I'm now ready to install a WM6 ROM on my currently WM5 hermes from Tmobile.
I'm looking for people's opinions as to whether it's worth my while and what the performance differences are? (obviously it's a lot of work getting things set up again so I want to be sure it's worthwhile).
Is WM6 running slower on hermes that WM5? or faster?
Has anyone a ROM they would reccomend? Else I'll go with the Tmobile standard.
So opinions please!
Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate it!
cmon!!! you cant be serious!!!!
ppl are looking to upgrade their devices to wm6.1 and you want us to compare wm5 to wm6? i mean seriously......look at every device thread, even the older devices, you can practically see wm6/6.1 for almost every single devices, even devices which are waaaay older than wm6. and you probaby wont find anyone getting excited over any wm5 releases anywhere.......doesnt that tell you something?/
if you searched hard enough, you could probably find someone who compared the performance of wm5 to wm6 but those will probably be with older builds of wm6, and those just dont compare with the current builds. your best bet i would say is to try it out urself, its not that hard.
I know it's not that hard to test it - I'm already running it on my blue-angel.
And it's running well.
But comparing hermes to blue angel is comparing apples to oranges.
It's a *huge* amount of work doing the upgrade. Not the actual upgrade. That's, as you say, rediculously easy. But installing 20/30 medical textbooks? dozens of other programs, fixing out my network setup on it....
these take hours, and in a casual not setting hours aside for it fashion a couple of weeks.
So I'm understandibly not wanting to take the risk and plung in until I'm sure it'll be worthwhile.
Anyone got any experience? Has WM6 upgraded the speed? or is the slight graphical revamp a strain on the processor?
Also should I go with tmobile's own ROMs for WM6 or a community alternative?
Opinions pretty pretty please to save me hours of work!
2 words.......user customization
there truly is a HUGE diffrence between wm5 and wm6/6.1. i would recomend going with a WM6.1 build from the get go considering all the programs you say you load on your hermes.
I am currently using the DVH Rom build 19400(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387516 ). I find it to be the fastest, loaded but not bloated, and honestly is the best i've used in quit some time. He has apparently released a new rom (build 19701) but i have yet to try it out. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=388747)
best of luck
molesaied88, TRY 19701, ITS FREAKIN AWESOME!!!!!!!Quick and VERY stable... I love it.
Thanks folks.
Sorry I took ages to reply i had exams! Right so you guys are advocating using a custom home cooked WM6 Rom rather than an original one?
(I'm assuming these are faster? Are they fully featured though?)
Now I'll need to decide whether to go with Ultra or molesaid's suggestion. Anyone know which is currently running more spritely?
Again thanks again! I know the forum must be deluged with this kind of stuff
I have found WM6 to be much, much more stable than when I had WM5. Not as many lock ups of freezing as before. I used to have to soft reset my phone all the time because of lock ups, but with WM6 I rarely reset my phone anymore.
I would say that stability and the larger pool of programs for it made WM6 the choice for me.
Hello
Been a longtime lurker on these forums, been following the graphics saga with the Kaiser and other phones... and also the inability to flash P3600i's with cooked ROMS :/
They've become really cheap now where I live, and have great features considering the price they're now selling at. I assumed that the P3600i's could use the same cooked ROMS as the Trinity phones, but of course I was mistaken
SO my question is this: If you can't flash a P3600i with a cooked ROM, what else can you do to customise your phone? I mean apart from software of course... I'm guessing nothing, apart from super minor things like reg tweaking and stuff
Is it still worth it to get this phone (if it was cheap) despite not being able to use cooked ROMs? I mean, can you still 'get a lot out of it' by doing other things?
Regards,
Jon
Hello everyone,
First, I want to thank xda forums and all the devs for all the great work. I am very very very new to this forum (about 2 weeks) as I just bought my first wm device the great HTC HD.
I read a lot of posts those past few weeks, learned a lot (SPL, Cooked roms ...)
But I also see tons of cooked roms wich lost me pretty much.
So my question is really simple. I'm not able to flash my device very often (lots of work and I can't use my work computer), I was wondering wich cooked rom was the best. But by best I mean what can basically respond to my use. Because i see "I added this programs, removed this one, fully tweaked" but I don't know all those programms and the "+" and "-" versus the htc ones.
What I'm basically seeking is :
- Similar to HTC one (same skin and softs or better softs)
- Fully tweaked (most fast and stable one with last updates)
I just want some advices, tastes from ppl more used to WM and Cooked roms. Therefore I'll be able to try 1/3 roms. It's not that I didn't searched but with all those roms I don't know what's different in them.
Thank you very much for you time and thanks to all the xda devs, maybe i'll be able to help cook whatever when i'll be used to WM devices.
Regards
Veskit
Hi to all x2 owners!
I have checked xda forum for rom developent after purchasing the phone. I guess that this phone is one of the best phones that I have/d. It's advantidge is in its great camera.
There is no phone, on the market today, that has this powerful camera, qwerty keyboard, touch screen, and runing on WM 6.5!
So, it makes it the best today. But, no coustom roms.
If Developers on this forum could consider to crack this phone, it would definitly make it THE BEST!
(Please Developers......please...)
yeah well if it was made by htc as X1 was we would already have alot of cosom ROMs but since it is not i dont have much fate in that.
But, but, but...why? This is the only phone with 8MP camera and full qwerty! There is no phone on the market today with this. And, also is WM. Only thing that is missing is Energy rom, or similar.
there is a reason for that
There is a reason for that: Sells are to low, and no interest from developer, to develop HardSPL for a dead phone. And X2 is dead, couse no support from SE, even no answer from then. So i guess that deleting SE stuff for X2 is the only option to somehow stabilize this phone.
