Problem sending e-mails from gmail account on Windows Mobile - Networking

Hi
I’m having problem with sending e-mail from HTC Touch DIamond using my gmail account. Receiving works fine but when I’m trying to send I get this error:
“The message(s) could not be sent. Check that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct. Then try sending again.”
My gmail account settings are:
Incoming mail server: imap.gmail.com
Account type: IMAP4
User name: [email protected]
Outgoing (SMTP) mail server: imap.gmail.com
Outgoing server requires authentication: YES
Use the same user name and password for sending e-mail: YES
Require SSL for Incoming e-mail: YES
Require SSL for Outgoing e-mail: YES
Network connection: The Internet
Does anybody have gmail working on Windows Mobile 6?

You mixed s.th. up with the SMTP Server:
>Outgoing (SMTP) mail server: imap.gmail.com
Try: smtp.gmail.com
Tobbi

Thanks but it doesn't help. I just tried all different variants and sending still gives this error.
Do you tick "Use the same user name and password for sending e-mail" in Outgoing mail server section?

I may have misread but can you explain to us what medium you are sending your mail over IE WiFi, Bluetooth, GPRS, EVDO, 3G, NextG, EDGE, CDMA etc
As a thought, if it is WiFi, you sometimes need to make your outgoing server the same as your hosting company (that hosts the internet connection which you are WiFi'ing to).
IE If I am in an office that uses Bigpond BRoadband (Telstra, Australia) then my outgoing needs to be.
Outgoing: Mail.bigpond.com
Incoming: Mail.gmail.com

This Link should solve your problems.

Problems sending mail through smtp when using GPRS

I have had no trouble sending and receiving e-mail when I am connected to the servers of my ISP. That is, dial-in ISP, to which I connect via cell phone, where the pop server and the smtp server belong to the ISP where I also have my e-mail account.
The moment I connect via GPRS, all I can do is download my e-mail. When I try to send, I get all sorts of error messages stating that the servers could not resolve the recipients' names. Is there a way around this? :?: Do I need to specify a proxy. How does anyone else connect via GPS and send e-mail from their regular ISP POP account?
i have the same problem
so far i've used the workaround which is
that my isp (which is not my cellphone gprs isp but my cable isp)
have a www mail gateway so i can use IE to login to that and send my mails that way
Yeah! I do that, but when I reach the web mail page and try to click open an e-mail, nothing happens. So that is a dead end for me! There has to be a way around the SMTP issue. We'll figure it out!
Hi
Are you using the smtp address of your pop3 provider or your gprs provider?
My xda ii is connected via an orange uk sim and i use it to both send and receive email from my o2 and blueyonder accounts. In order to send from these accounts i have to use the smtp address of orange ie smtp.orange.net rather than the smtp addresses of my pop3 providers.
Hope this helps
Chris
Indeed it would help if I only had a means to find out the smtp server for my cell phone service provider. Believe me, I've tried and no one ate Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM) has a clue as to what I am talking about. I tried smtp.tim.br and smtp.tim.com.br but neither worked
Any clues...?
try something like relay.tim.it or they should have some data support.
According to an NSLOOKUP against their domain name, their primary mailserver is smtp1.tim.com.br - try that.
Fork.
Hi everyone!
Fidlling with the smtp settings, I finally found out how to send mail over a GPRS connection using your ISP's pop mail account.
Everyboy, when set up an account, must fill in the pop.ispserver.com and the smtp.ispserver.com. It so happens that using the GPRS smtp (those who have one) or using pop relay, is trcky and does NOT work! The solution is:
1. Goto Inbox
1.1. Select Accounts
2. Select the account you want to edit (presumably the account you been able to download e-mail but didn`t allow you to send e-mail)
3. Enter you POP mail e-mail address (step 1/4)
4. Enter user info (name, user and password) (step 2/4)
5. Enter account info (type is POP3 and name will be grayed) (step 3/4)
6. Server Information (step 4/4) critical step
- fill in your pop account info (pop.ispserver.com)
- fill in your smtp account info (smtp.ispserver.com)
- leave domain blank!
6.1. Click Options and don`t check anything! Goto step 2/3
6.2. Select (checkmark) outgoing e-mail server requires authentication
- Do NOT check Require SSL connection
- Select Only display messages from the last X days, if you want
Click NEXT and you are good to go!!!
It worked fine for me with TIM in Brazil and Cingular in the US! Some POP3 services don`t allow this kind of connection!

Problem with .Mac Mail

So I'm having a problem with .Mac mail. I can receive and view my e-mail but I cannot send e-mails using my mogul. I've been searching for my answer on this forum before making this thread but didn't seem to find it. I also tried changing the options up and down but no success.
My settings are as follow:
_________________________________________
Incoming Mail Server
mail.mac.com
Account Type
IMAP4
Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server
smtp.mac.com
[√] Outgoing Server Require Authentication
[√] Use The Same Username And Password For Sending Efmail
Advanced Server Settings
[ ] Require SSL For Incoming E-mail
[ ] Require SSL For Outgoing E-mail
Network Connection
The Internet
_________________________________________
Everytime I try to send a message, I get this notification:
'The message could not be sent. Check that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct. Then try sending again.'
In case it matters I'm using the DCD's Mogul ROM & Kitchen 3.0.4
Thanks in advance,
Bruno
Any comments?
...Anybody ¿?
Change the username for sending.
Instead of:
[email protected]

Yahoo Email set up

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication)
Account Name/Login Name: Your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com")
Email Address: Your Yahoo! Mail address (e.g., [email protected])
Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password

If you don't have yahoo plus you can set it up for the free version of yahoo mail with these:
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: smtp.mail.mobile.yahoo.com (use authentication)
Account Name/Login Name: Your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com")
Email Address: Your Yahoo! Mail address (e.g., [email protected])
Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password
Im guess that maybe the client sends information about itself and yahoo is somehow rejecting it. Currently those settings dont work. Also smtp.mail.mobile.yahoo.com doesnt resolve, but smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com does.
these arent workin for me
Has anyone figured out why this only works via network and not WiFi?
nevermind.....

From T-MO forums.

1. From the Home screen, tap the Application tab.

6. Tap OK when the 'Free Yahoo! Mail accounts only work over T-Mobile wireless networks. Yahoo! Mail Plus users should configure POP settings manually.' message appears.
7. Tap IMAP account.
#
1. From Incoming server settings, set the following:
2. IMAP Server field: imap.mail.yahoo.com
* Port: 143 (by default)

1.
Scroll down and select Next.
* The device searches for incoming server information.
#
1. From Outgoing server settings, set the following:
2. SMTP Server field: smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
* Port: 25

I was able to get it to work, but for some reason, when I'm on the screen that lists all my email accounts, it says my yahoo email has 2 new emails, although there isn't any new emails to be read. Anybody else have this problem?

I'm on Rogers, so my guess is it will work with any carrier.
It's giving me the "Username or password incorrect. ()" error on Incoming settings and "Username or password incorrect. (AUTH PLAIN failed (535 authentication failed (#5.7.0)))" error on Outgoing settings. I double-checked that my credentials are good by signing off and re-logging to Yahoo mail. Just to note that I don't have Yahoo Plus.
Edit: Nevermind, it works. Apparently this doesn't work over Wifi, only over the mobile network. I knew there was a reason I ditched Yahoo in favor of GMail all those years ago!
worked for me on my at&t htc tytn. wm6.1
I needed to set the port numbers.
smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com:25
Guys it keeps telling me username or password incorrect? i know they are correct?? i tried doing the manual setup and to no avail .. it used to work automatically before flashing to cm rom
EDIT seems that yahoo.com is down for me .. WTF owell will try tomorrow
Hi, I have atutorial in spanish with screenshots on My website if anyone is interested http://www.dgtallika.com/2009/07/como-usar-yahoo-mail-en-tu-g1-my-touch-hero/ and maybe for the non spanish speaking all images are in english so you can give it a try! Hope it helps
Try these settings:
Server Settings
Incoming Mail Server (POP3): pop.mail.yahoo.com
Use SSL, port: 995
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication
Account Name/Username: [email protected]
Email address: [email protected]
Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password
Note: if it doesn't work, then log onto ur yahoo account, then change the regional settings to Yahoo! Asia
It works great for me on wifi
the same thing kept happening to me after i put the cm rom on my mytouch. heres what i did and it finally worked
input the sign in info and select manual setup
choose the imap account
username:[email protected]
password:******
imap server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
port:143
smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
port:25
This did it for me
I did not choose ssl but added ":465" to the smtp server
so to recap
plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com - incoming
plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com:465 - outgoing
no ssl just authentication

[Q] Three network SMTP SERVER name...

Hi
Does anybody know the correct SMTP name for Three network as I have tried all combinations under the sun..(smtp-mbb.three.co.uk, smtp.three.co.uk) and they all fail to connect to my NTLWORLD account using the standard HTC Desire email client..
Can receive email but sending on the move fails..
Three customer service dont know and cant be bothered ringing them up again and hanging on for ages warming up my ear
Steve
Found away of doing it thank god.
The ntlworld.com SMTP server is only accessible when you are physically on the NTL/Virgin Media network.
The virginmedia.com SMTP server, however, can be accessed outside the NTL/Virgin Media network.
1. So set up a new virginmedia.com email on the virgin media website
Use this account to authenticate with the virginmedia.com SMTP server, but send the e-mail from your @ntlworld.com address
2. In your GMail accounts and import you would configure 'send mail from another address' and add another email address you own. Here you would add your ntlworld address.
3. In the next page SEND MAIL THROUGH YOUR SMTP SERVERS click 'send through ntlworld servers' and add smtp.virginmedia.com and your full virginmedia email address (eg [email protected]) as a username/password with port 465
4. Put SMTP.VIRGINMEDIA.COM on your phone as a SMTP address but with your full virginmedia email address (eg [email protected])as a username and your password. Use SSL and port 465.
And it works ON BOTH wifi at home and on the move via Three's 3G network and possibly others..

cPanel email & email app

This is so damn frustrating to try and get working! Anyone else use cPanel, my web hosting is with Vidahost and that's what they use.
These are the manual settings from cPanel
Mail Server Username: [name]@[domain].co.uk
Incoming Mail Server: mail.[domain].co.uk
Incoming Mail Server: (SSL) caracas.footholds.net
Outgoing Mail Server: mail.[domain].co.uk (server requires authentication) port 26
Outgoing Mail Server: (SSL) caracas.footholds.net (server requires authentication) port 465
Supported Incoming Mail Protocols: POP3, POP3S (SSL/TLS), IMAP, IMAPS (SSL/TLS)
Supported Outgoing Mail Protocols: SMTP, SMTPS (SSL/TLS)
I'm trying to use the Mail by HTC app, but it takes a silly long time checking the account details, and then it comes up with an error about no being able to contact the incoming server, so you can either press 'OK' or 'Continue', pressing continue takes you to the outgoing server settings, enter them and it sets up the account. Only problem is that I can't receive any emails, I can send them fine though.
I am using IMAP by the way. Anyone have any ideas what's going wrong? Or anyone else use cPanel?
Thanks
All sorted now. Manually set it up on Thunderbird and then just used the settings from that into my phone.
I Use Cpanel, have 7 Emails in my DHD .... works perfect... (IMAP)
I use Maildroid insteed of the build in mail client.
