Difference between upgrading Radio and ROM

Hi.
Can someone please tell what is the difference between.. radio and a ROM
i see lot ppl asking for new version of Radio or ROM. Hw r these 2 thing different??

I have been trying 2 research the same thing. I have flashed a new ROM. but have no clue on how to install a new Radio, or even where to get them... is there a list and tuts anywhere on how/what to install?
Bee searching with no luck, though I did find a Radio that CR86 had a link to on his Touch HD v2.6 rom though have no idea on how to proceed to install the Radio, so I have my default one on my Wizard atm.

thanks for the info cooper_xda, made things easier, but I'm learning alot about the software side of these devices lately

Radio : phone's communication software to your network/carrier
ROM : Phone's UI Software.
Or, something like that.
correct if wrong.
And to update both radio and rom, you have to flash it, nbh files is avail at htc upgrading forum.

pretty much got it right lol
radio controls all gsm and 3g functions (calls internet etc)
rom is basically windows mobile and all OEM software

Issues with Radio 1.65.30.09

Hi,
i was very happy with murata 1.58.21.23 and because of the fact that i need android i upgraded to the 1.65.30.09.
The problem ist that the camera doesn't work under 1.65... I've downgraded back to 1.58... (not as easy as it sounds like) and camera ran well again.
1. Does someone know any workaround for this issue? (The "Nadavi" camera trick didn't worked for me.)
2. Can someone give me an idea regarding the 1.71.09.01 Radio (for Kaiser)? Should I try it on a Polaris? and how to manage the wrong device id when flashing?

What is your ROM version?
But, if you use radio 1.58, you cannot use ver. 1.65... Only 1.64... Search about driver versions and radio versions compatibility on this forum...

created it yesterday i was getting bored of writing the same thing over and over again so in the future try the wiki as it does have some useful info!

Confused as to which rom

i was given a telus(canada) htc-p4000 that is completely stock(wm5.0).
what i want to do is update to windows mobile 6.1,i am not really concerned
with gps ,if it works ok, if not that's ok also.
i have read the faq and have been searching the site for 3 days and i cannot yet understand which rom i am supposed to download.so many different roms to choose from.
i can find no telus specific rom or program to flash my phone.
if anyone would like to point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.
i read the faq/looked at the wiki and am still confused.

i have the 2.40 bootloader on the phone and i have flashed to the original telus software.
what i would like to know from a p4000 user is what is the best radio/rom version to use on my phone.
there are so many versions and none seem to be specifically for telus phones.
can you just pick the newest radio version and rom and flash away?

[Q] Help Please (Problem with the robot voice)

Hi Guys,
Please help, i am having problem with the robot voice like most people here.
I don't know where i'm going wrong... i've read the forum and have tried what ppl have said, but i still can't fix my problem.
I have HardSPL'd my phone.
Have installed the custom ROM. (Tried Chucky ROM & currently on the Energy ROM)
Have tried all the radio's i believe.
Can someone plz tell me where im going wrong.
And also another Q. After loading the Radio, do i have to install the Custome ROM again? or installing the custome ROM is a one off thing??

Radio change
Have you tried radio 2.12 or 2.14? I stopped having the robot voice even with a 2.08 radio.
I can't post the link, but just do a search for HD2 2.14 and it should come up!
As for your second question: No, you do not need to flash the ROM again!

SPL HELP

Hey guys i'm new to the XDA community. I here today because I need some help. I have an HTC hd2 that I had hardspl and running android on it. My screen went bad and now I have to send into T-mobile to get a replacement. So I thought I downloaded the right stock ROM but ended up downloading a test ROM with a 2.00.10 SPL. now I'm stuck. Ive read plenty of other threads and came to the conclusion that I need the test ROM "2.03" because I've downloaded the 2.02 test ROM but still was left with 2.00.10 spl. All the links to download 2.03 test ROM are down. I would be really great full if any one can re-upload the file or pm me with it. Now from all the threads I went through this seems to be the ONLY solution to my problem as I cannot flash anything else. If you have another solution I would be great full for some advice on how to remove SPL 2.00.10
