Bepe ROM's - Howto for newbies needed plz! - Touch Cruise ROM Development

Hi Folks!
First I would like to say that you are doing a lot of great work which will make the life with our little electronic friends alot easier! I saw these Windows Mobile 6.1 images from Pepe and I just must have it. But since I'm completly new to PPC's, I have a few questions about it.
1. Is there a list of features of the different "Editions" for the Bepe images?
2. How do I flash the ROM to my phone? Is there some kind of HowTo?
3. I have an O2 XDA Orbit 2 which is an Polaris 200. Is that the right platform? I just don't want to mess anything up on it.
4. What will happen to my TomTom Navigator software? Can I reinstall it using the package included DVD?
Thanks for your patience and for answering my questions!

I think you mean Bepe and not Pepe?
1) Premium = Full; Opera = No TomTom; Standard = No TomTom, No Opera Browser; Basic = Light
2) First of all you have to install HardSPL and then you can flash the Rom (just download the rom, the tool for flashing is built in).
3) Yes, it´s right. I did the same.
4) Grab the Premium-Version, there´s TomTom included. This might be work without reinstalling from the TomTom-DVD. I prefer IGO8.
Further information can be found here.
Good luck.

Thanks alot! So at last I need to know is if the Bepe ROM's contain any radio stuff or which one I should take.

radio is included. at least i didn't had to install any additional stuff...

No, Radio is NOT included, but the one already on your phone will not be affected by flashing this ROM or any other ROM not containing Radio. The CustomRUU will always update only what is included in the ROM and leave the rest as it is.
If I'm wrong, correct me.

Radio rom is not included
FM Radio is

Guys I got it! This Newbie HowTo is really great!
First I tried the Polaris unlocker. It has three steps, but only the first, flashing the Hard SPL worked for me for unknown reason. I thought Hard SPL is on the device, it runs up fine, three coloured screen says Hard SPL so I was going for the Bepe 0.67 Premium ROM. This worked really fine. After that, I did a hard reset as recommended and made my settings. Then I tried to flash the radio. Well... This made me kinda nervous, I thought I f*cked something up and bricked it. It showed me an error 262 at 99% and then some kind of recovery stuff started. I was a bit too nervous so I choose next where I shouldn't. But removing the battery, and flashing the new radio again while seeing the three coloured screen worked fine for me. WiFi and 3G phone calls work fine, the rest should be also ok I think. Well, thanks for this great ROM's folks! Now I'm happy that I bought my HTC instead of this piece of brick called iPhone.

What to do, what to do...

As I am reading through the posts in this website I realize that I am not as technical as I would like. I am trying to simply make my Mogul more responsive and functional. I would like to be able to use the GPS with Google Maps, once this feature is available, and obviously I would like everything to look cool.
I currently have the following installed:
ROM Version 2.17.651.0
Radio Version 1.47.01
SPB Mobile Shell
SPB Phone Suite
Opera Mobile
Can anyone offer assistance on what I should do/add next?
the first thing id do is upgrade your radio and get on one of DCD's roms. instant GPS. winmo 6.1 also makes your phone much faster. umm ditch SPB, it slows everything down like crazy and pick up HTC home and HTC home customizer. make sure you have the newest opera, not the beta, its much better. thats what i got for you so far, if i think of anything else ill let you know
In general I understand what you are saying, but I am not sure I understand how. Where would one go to upgrade the radio and get a dcd rom?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=362563
follow the directions here (follow them in order and you'll be ok)
you can get the latest DCD rom here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=367574
(just a note to you. these roms that people are making take a lot of hard work and time, and all of the GPS roms are based of a leaked test rom(it's not official from sprint or whom ever your carrier is) so there are bugs and they are working hard to fix the issues. most likely if you have a problem it's been had before so search through the threads for the answer)
ok so let me make sure I understand...
I do these things in this order?:
1. Hard SPL Unlocker
2. Radio 3.27
3. DCD ROM 2.2.6
Is this correct?
Also, will I be able to load other software on top of this ROM?
Also, what is the difference in a ROM and a Kitchen?

2. DCD ROM 2.2.6
3. Radio 3.27
you will be able to put programs on top of this rom
a kitchen lets you customize the rom before you flash it to your phone

HTC Touch Dual TouchFLO 2D/3D

Heya everyone,
I have browsed this site before and loaded software onto my P4350 before.
I now have a Touch Dual (Nike), and would like to put the same software on the phone. I got it right a while ago... sort of (some apps still had bugs).
Could someone make it real easy for me and post the link to the latest version THAT WORKS ON MY PHONE.
I don't need footprints.
The issues I had before that might have been fixed in later versions are:
Weather app crashed EVERY TIME you opened it
Opera browser would NOT save the home page
Thanks guys.
BTW... this software f*ing rocks. You guys at XDA and whoever else is working on mods for it are doing an awesome job!
Hi !
1)
First you need you HardSPL your Phone...
Read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355730
And search further on to get Version Hard-1.22.
2)
Afterwards, you need to Flash an Original WWE Rom like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=373452
You NEED to flash this in order to get the newest roms working right !
Maybe, you need to do the HardSPL again after that.
3) Radio
Head here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369502
And get Radio 1.71.x or 1.6x...
4)Custom Rom
Finally, you can flash anything you want, i really like gullums rom as it is fast and stable:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=472343
5) Android
If you want to try it, have a look to the Android Thread - And give it a try:

Greets !
CHEESE N RICE!!!!!!
I dont remember it being that difficult last time!
But now that you mention it my Nike has been rather hot... (radio update not done)
I will religiously follow the steps provided and let you know the outcome.
Thanks for the help.

some questions about roms

Hi guys,
this is my first post in this forum.
A couple of days I've already been browsing through the forums and the wiki, and now I have a few simple questions regarding flashing of roms.
I'm the owner of a BLAC100 in the O2 Germany version (Rom:1.14.207.2 (241011) GER, Radio: 1.09.25.14)
As O2 has not (yet) offered their version of the 1.56.407.2 Rom I was thinking of flashing the generic version using USPL.
Ultimately I'm hoping to run a fully working Android on the device, but till then I'll probably have to wait a little longer.
Is it possible after flashing a different rom to completely restore the device to factory settings? (Is there a rom available?)
What happens to the software installed on SD?
I guess I'll have to reinstall that too?
THX in advance,
Kayoz
Welcome to the forum!
I assume the BLAC100 is the Blackstone?
I also have the touch hd originally from O2 Germany.
If you want to flash a new ROM, but you still want to keep the original SPL, then don't install an HSPL, but instead use USPL. Of course, if you were to use HSPL, you could always go back and put the original SPL for warranty purposes. It's really up to you. I've always only used USPL.
If one day you want your original stock ROM, then download it from this list here.
Wiki: Stock ROMs
Just scroll down to the Germany section, and pick the one that applies to you.
There are some great instructions on flashing ROMs here.
Follow them closely - especially if you want to flash a 1.56 ROM - you'll need to first update your SPL/HSPL/USPL to a 1.56 version. It is all explained in that tutorial.
I use Dutty's 3.7 XT ROM and it's great. I have used his ROMs since v2.1.
When you flash a new ROM, you'll most likely need to install the programs on your SD card again (at least - I have always had to). You can use a program like spb Backup to make an image of your device after you are done installing all your programs and adjusting all your settings. If you have to hard-reset, you can just restore that backup file and in no time you'll have all your programs back. However, if you flash a different ROM, that backup file will likely not work with it.
restore the device to factory settings == the rom you flashed's factory settings
there is no behind the screen rom you can always revert to after you flash your device
if change the rom you change the rom
only way to go back to how your phone was bought is to flash it again
with the rom version it came with like you would any other rom
Thanks for the quick replys!

Correction: Hmm, I just looked into it. Some do seem to be "homemade" or altered roms. (for example see this discussion). Thanks for pointing it out. I was under the impression they were 100% original stock roms.
I can't tell you what the differences are. It looks like the O2 roms are all the same. This table shows you the various stock roms in each country (scroll down). There it only shows O2 germany as having ROM 1.14.207.2(24011)
Correction: (old info erased) My original O2 rom was 1.14.207.2(24011). The 1.14.407.3 was once I flashed later.
Check your phone right now. Go to settings, system tab, device information and look and see what version it says you have. You can also look at the red numbers when you start your phone. Write those down, as they say your ROM and radio info etc...

Making an "image" doesn't mean you are saving the whole ROM. I'm not a cook, so I can't tell you how you could do that. But maybe these links will help:

I had my stock ROM for several weeks. And once I flashed Dutty's ROMs I never went back. I use his latest ROM right now (3.7 XT).
I made quite a few changes to my previous post, so you might want to read it again. I had some mistakes in there. I also included some new links with info if you are interested in backing up your current "true" stock rom. It would be really helpful for the rest of us too, since apparently the "stock" roms provided in the wiki are not 100% stock. I don't know if the altered stock roms in the wiki would be recognized as such and therefore void the warranty.

In my understanding making an image of the rom (dumping the rom) is basically saving all the contents of the rom.
If not please tell me what would be missing.

Yes, I believe you are right, but I am not sure if there are any hidden files or boot files that you need to make sure are included in there. And then, once you dump it, you have to make it "installable". My knowledge is not good in that area, so I don't want to give you information that could be wrong or misleading.
The best thing would be to post a thread in the Blackstone ROM Development forum.

Here is a link to Dutty's latest ROM for WM 6.1
It is faster and more user friendly and nicer design than my original stock ROM. It also has the new Manila version with the new contact cards etc... You can also use Manila in portrait or landscape mode.
It has extra useful apps without making the ROM a big bloat.
Check out the thread for details.

Here is a thread devoted to ROM extraction and creation.

ok, so I've read some more material and successfully dumped my rom, now working on reconstructing it so it can be flashed back onto the device.
I also did (my first) hard reset and I noticed after the hard reset the protocol version of the device changed from:
52.49a.25.26U
to:
52.49a.25.26H
anyone knows what that means?

Cool! Great to hear. It looks like we might now have a true 100% stock ROM for O2 Germany. (Assuming you'll share it with us )
Unfortunately I don't know the difference in protocols. Maybe someone else can help.
So, I've been playing around those last couple of days trying to reconstruct my rom.
I've been unsuccessful so far. When I'm trying to do nbsplit on a stock rom and then run imgfsfromnb on the payload i always end up with an empty imgfs.bin.
I also tried using Part02.raw as imgfs.bin directly then it only tells me not to use the created imgfs-new.bin.
anyone might know what i could be doing wrong?

Kayoz,
I was wondering, were you ever able to reconstruct your ROM?
Im looking to flash a different ROM onto my phone, but I am unwilling until I have a copy of my current ROM on my THD.
Does anyone know if it matters if two ROMs are identical in all aspects except for the protocol versions?
My ROM comes with
ROM version: 1.18.707.3 (23358) WWE
ROM date: 12/10/08
Radio version: 1.09.25.14
Protocol version: 52.49a.25.26W

But the closest that I was able to find was the RUU_BlackStone_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.18.707.3_Radio_52.49a.25.26_1.09.25.14_Ship.exe which has a slightly different protocol.
Cheers.

Difference between upgrading Radio and ROM

Hi.
Can someone please tell what is the difference between.. radio and a ROM
i see lot ppl asking for new version of Radio or ROM. Hw r these 2 thing different??
Thanks a lot
I have been trying 2 research the same thing. I have flashed a new ROM. but have no clue on how to install a new Radio, or even where to get them... is there a list and tuts anywhere on how/what to install?
Bee searching with no luck, though I did find a Radio that CR86 had a link to on his Touch HD v2.6 rom though have no idea on how to proceed to install the Radio, so I have my default one on my Wizard atm.

thanks for the info cooper_xda, made things easier, but I'm learning alot about the software side of these devices lately
LAYMAN TERMS.
Radio : phone's communication software to your network/carrier
ROM : Phone's UI Software.
Or, something like that.
correct if wrong.
And to update both radio and rom, you have to flash it, nbh files is avail at htc upgrading forum.
pretty much got it right lol
radio controls all gsm and 3g functions (calls internet etc)
rom is basically windows mobile and all OEM software

[Guide] A Topaz Pre-Guide Guide (Beginners look here)

There seems to be some confusion as to what exactly flashing is. People talk about flashing ROMs AND flashing HardSPL...wtf?!?
well, you do flash both, but think of flashing HardSPL as you would when flashing your BIOS on your PC (if you have never done it, then think of it as a new version of the white writing that tells you your pc specs when you switch your pc on - startup screen)
Flashing a ROM:
Your phone is running Windows Mobile (6.1 or 6.5) just like your computer is running Windows XP/Vista/7 (or, if ur a real tosser, Mac OS). Now you may sometimes update your OS (that stands for Operating System) via automatic updates. you haven't actually REPLACED your OS, just added a little to it.
That is NOT what flashing a ROM is.
Flashing your ROM is like having Windows XP Home and installing Windows 7 Ultimate. You COMPLETELY take away Windows XP and ALL files associated with it and install a newer OS.
So, you cannot just "upgrade" from WM 6.1 to WM 6.5.
WHAT IS A ROM?
A ROM is practically (using above's example) a CD/DVD with Windows Mobile on it (which version of Windows Mobile doesn't matter). Now of course it IS NOT an actual CD/DVD, but rather a smaller file (where are you gonna fit a CD/DVD into your phone, huh? )
So, when people talk about choosing your ROM, they are practically saying, which version of Widows Mobile do you want, BUT ALSO how customised do you want it?
Different ROMs:
- Stock ROM/Original ROM/HTC ROM:
these ROMs are absolutely basic and come with nothing extra or edited to make them faster/change them. it is the version you can download from HTC
- Cooked ROMs/Modified ROMs/Custom ROMs:
these ROMs are prepared by the chefs in our kitchen (it's a metaphor, there aren't really chefs in any kitchen, we just call the guys who piece together the custom ROMs, chefs)
these ROMs come in many shapes and sizes, some of them offering more eye candy (that's what we call things that look pretty) and some optimized for speed and performance. You will need to read through the description the chef gives, as well as the forum feedback to be able to evaluate just how likely you are to use that ROM.
Now, once you understand those terms a bit better, have a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=585201
for a simple step by step guide to flashing HardSPL and then your first ROM.
Good luck
Other Terms you might encounter:
Radio Version: The radio ROM is responsible for Wifi, phone signal, GPS. Changing the radio ROM can improve your phone (or make it worse) regarding Wifi sensitivity, phone signal availability, GPS satellite receiving and GPS lag. Most ROMs come with a radio that should work best for them, however, if they do not, then your old radio will simply be left in place.
Unfortunately there is no confirmed measurement available yet to tell you which radio ROM is best for you. It depends on the OS ROM you use, the region you are living in and your personal needs.
Sense/Manilla/TF3D/Touch Flo: These are words/descriptions given to the HTC Touch Flo Interface (Touch Flo 3d is the TF3D term in words)
- Manilla (BLACK AND WHITE) is the original version "old" version, whilst Sense (COLOURED ICONS) is the new one.
- So anything that is graphically NOT the standard Windows Mobile 6.1 or 6.5, probably counts towards the Touch Flo Interface.
Hard Reset: A hard reset is the same as "Restore Factory Defaults" on most cell phones. So ANY data you have added (contacts, data files - music, photos, etc) will be deleted. The phone then reverts ALL settings (any background changes you're made, any ringtones, etc will be set to the original, default ones the phone came with) *note: your phone will NOT reset to the original ROM/Windows Mobile version it came with, it will still be the same ROM you flashed with!
To perform a hard reset, you can either do so by looking for the Restore to factory settings in your menu
OR
Switch your phone off. Now hold both volume buttons down and press the power button. Your phone will now hard reset.
Soft Reset: Pressing the red button under your battery cover, or selecting the quick reset option in the menu(s). This is pretty much comparable to restarting your pc if it is running a bit slowly for some reason.

R3 seems to be good from Dutty, personally, i'm still using R1 (because of the task manager, i feel it is the fastest feeling ROM i've used to date (with Sense 2.5))
Your question about the Radio is a good one. I will add an explanation above soon, but in short, don't worry about it. If you flash a ROM that DOESN'T come with a new Radio, then your phone will automatically keep the old one. If your new ROM DOES have a new Radio...well, it will update automatically

I'm new here and have been doing a ton of research on my phone from sprint. I have a lot of questions mainly to do with enhancing my phone from default. You know all the must haves and so forth to opptimize and have some fun with it. I wasn't sure where to post but I figured this was as good as any. On a more speciffic note, Is there a way to increase the in-call volume so that botton pushes would have a greater effect on the volume level?
I installed the newest Opera and I would like to like it to the Touch Flo 3D like the current one is. Not sure how to uninstall the original if that's what it takes or even if this is my best option? Links or any assistance to get me off in the right direction would be great.
Thanks!
Thanks for the much needed idiots guide to HTC ROM stuff.

u will need to wait for a newer build/ROM that integrates Opera (the new version)
currently, Opera 9.xx is "linked" to Touch Flo 3d. it should technically be possible to "link" Opera 10, but that's where my know-how ends.
maybe others will have a better idea, but as far as i know, it's something a chef would have to do with his ROM, or/and an HTC update
HARD SPL
do i do a Hard SPL every time I flash a rom or its just one time activity?

if you would read this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=585201
(it IS linked in my Original Post) then you would read that you DO NOT need to flash HSPL every time. just the first time.
flashing from device
Hi. Is possible to flash a Rom from Internal Storage like Diamond does? (Vol Down + <-- + Reset). Thanks in advance
Hi, I'm a begginer-no-idea.
I'm wondering if it is possible install (and works, of course) Tom Tom 7... or not.
At the moment I tried 4 or 5 times but whitout success.
Do you have a tutorial for mono neuronal begginers?
Thanks.

TD2 has external storage card, no internal storage.
You can flash from storage card.
