My Documents Folder - Rogers HTC TyTn - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hello All
I have a Rogers HTC TyTn(HERM200) with the following
- Windows Mobile 5.0 (OS 5.1.195 Build 14955.2.3.0)
- 2GB Kingston MicroSD
Want to have the phone recognise My Documents folder on MicroSD card as default instead of the one on the internal memory. I found how to do this on the internet but I get "Access Denied" when I try to change the registry entry. Is there something I have to do to this phone so that I can modify the registry?
I've tried to look on this site by doing a search for -- "My Documents" tytn -- but didnt find anything that helped me out. I would really love to get the My Documents folder on the SD card, any help would be greatly appreciated

Hmmm guess there is no answer to this eh?

best bet is to change the location in all apps that wuld use it ie. set cameraand word etc to save there.

Need Help on installing applications into Storage card !!!

Hi All,
I have an I-mate jasjar, This is the first time i tried installing applications to Storage Card (1GB), when ever i tried to install using Activesync 4.0, It doesnt ask me which folder to install i.e Like Default or Storage Card. And also If i click Add/Remove Programs in Activesync 4.0, I find that the checkbox "install program into the default installation folder" is checked and disabled. Hence I am unable to change it. Find the below image for the same.
Please can some one help me on this, on how to resolve the same.
Regards,
Francis.
Hi Francis,
1. Try inserting a bit smaller memory card (may be 512).
2. check if the momory card is not locked physically.
3. At the lowest, try to hard reset, but keep the memory card inside the i-mate while it install the windows. IMP: dont forget to backup important files before rebooting.

First of all get Active Sync 4.1 from here...
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/downloads/activesync41.mspx
On WM5 devices like Universal and Wizard I think you choose the location on the device, so you just install to 'default folder' from activesync and when it gets to the phone instead of then going ahead and installing it gives you the choice, phone or storage card.
On 2003SE Windows Mobile, you did have to choose the location on your pc in active sync and when it went to your device it went where you sent it.
Hi,
Mine is a MMC Card, so i dont think it can be locked Physically, also i dont have a smaller card to check whether it works. May be i can try your last option, but i have lot of sms, which will be lost.
Regards,
Francis.
Thanks a lot
As mentioned, whenever I tried to install the application in the PPC it ask me where to install. Thanks a lot !!!
Regards,
Francis.
Did you find out how to load a program to an SD card in the Universal? I want to know too, please.
Whenever I install an application I see a message saying: "This is from a unknown developer, do you still want to install? Press YES or NO." This is the only message I see, no option to install it to the SD card.
Any suggestions please?
Can anyone confirm if cabinstl does anything on WM5?
Its dialog pops up, but then I get the normal WM5 dialog then asking for a destination a second time.
I think I may have confused cabinstl by adding the following registry keys:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Apps\Microsoft Application Installer]
"fAskOptions"=dword:00000001
"fAskDest"=dword:00000001
which will force the Wm5 installer to ask for a destination. This may be useful to those who aren't getting this dialog by default.
However, I want my MTV. And cabinstl. Working. Properly.

i've do the reg hack, softreset but nothing succeded! any idea?

Moving 'My Documents' to Storage after BS mod

Happy New year to all
I've been following with this site for quite sometime until i decide to switch from HP 6365 to o2 Mini/Magician.
I've successfully mod my Mini to BS with TMob 1.13 rom & 1.13 Radio. I'm just wondering if there's any possibilities to hack the default My Documents which resides in RAM to Storage. After all I still have 17MB free Storage after BS even having all my apps install in it.
I've tried few apps with registry editor but can't find anything that relates to My Documents location. What i mean is like Windows XP where you can change the default My Doc's from \Doc..& Settings..\User...etc to the folder that you want . eg: D:\My Documents
This will actually save a little time to backup the My Documents contents in the event you get a corrupted or format your C:\ in Windows Xp or Hard Reset in the case of PPC. Simply do a restore & I have the last state that i wanted or backup.
My intention is to configure my PPC with alll the customize apps, settings & etc and do a backup. In the event i need to do a Hard Reset, i'll just need to restore my OS from backup without the needs to backup or lose anything especially the My Documents. Like i said, restore & i have the last state of OS & cofig of the last state that i wanted to.
Been searching this forum but the search functions doesn't find me any results that relate to this. Anyone have such a wild idea?
Here's my apps in storage.
SPB Pocket Plus 3
Sprite Backup 3
PocketX Photo Contact Pro 4
Cab Installer
Vcard Receiver
Flexwallet 2006
Resco Explorer
Sk Tools
Tweaks2K
Ampda Camera

Wild Idea: Leave your "My Documents" folder where it is. Use Sprite Backup to do regular (scheduled, automatically running) backups of your device and save this backup to storage as an compressed exe. That way, after a hard reset you only have to launch File Explorer, start the backup file, restore, reset, takes less than 2 minutes. Depending on how many programs are stored in RAM (non-BS) and how many/how large documents are on your device it should work flawlessly.
Thanks for the info & kind attentions. I do practice a good backup.
I'm just looking at the hack/mod as a "bonus" if it is possible.
Cheers!
kanryu: since you suggested it, try to test this out.
I suggest you do this before installing any other app, because My Documents is a system setting used in many installations and they may get confused.
HKLM > Explorer > Shell Folders > My Documents
The storage card isn't always available at boot up, so again, it might cause problems. Storage might be a better idea then storage card. But this can already be configured in the options menu in Notes, at least.
V
Perhaps you can move all of the stuff to the storage ( not the card) and then put a shortcut from main memory to the storage card directory?
with some registry modifications as well. Some software only default the storage of data to \My Documents folder so merely moving everything to Storage and creating a shortcut won't do.
O2mini_noob: which registry mods did you use?
Have you guys tried the registry keys above?
V
I have tried this hack long time ago, wishing I counld change BT dir, but it did not work.. Storage Card & Storage, both failed...
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Explorer\Shell Folders]
"Templates"="\\Storage\\My Documents\\Templates"
"Windows"="\\Windows"
"StartUp"="\\Windows\\StartUp"
"Recent"="\\Windows\\Recent"
"Programs"="\\Windows\\Programs"
"Program Files"="\\Program Files"
"My Documents"="\\My Documents"
"Fonts"="\\Windows\\Fonts"
"Favorites"="\\Windows\\Favorites"
"Desktop"="\\Windows\\Desktop"
"Application Data"="\\Application Data"
as you can see.. only templates works ( since it's not related to the OS it self )... I tried changing Fonts dir as well, did not work either
I guess this has to do with the OS it self... so it is impossible to change it..
sorry Vijay, I was merely adding to stevedebi's quote of moving the entire \My Documents to storage. Obviously you have to do some registry changes to make it happen but wouldn't be as easy as that.
To OP.
I *think* I have a similar problem to you.
Basically I want to sync my files to/from my PC/PDA but the ram on my blueangel is way to small where as my 1 gig SD ram has vastly more than I need.
Now, i have managed to relocate my Sync briefcase on the PC to d:\briefcase. All well and good, this now trys to sync to the Pda's volatile ram way to much data .... so, im half way there.
Now, how can I tell the sync software or PDA's OS to sync to a folder on the SD RAM card?
I know I can put the SDcard into my PC but this is not what I want to achieve, i want it to be seemless and done in the craddle much like contacts etc are done.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

I've tried this before. Everything under this tree has been rename to \storage\my documents But after a soft reset, some of the key will revert back to default. ???
Seems like only those template folder are moveable. I'm started to suspect \My Documents are not fully handled by registry.
I'm wondering how clean the system can be if you need a 3rd party software to edit the registry such as Resco, PHM & etc. I know it's best to do it with a clean system but.... unless there's a way to edit the registry out of the PPC, or there's a standalone executeable software, which I have yet to found.
I'll see what can be figured out next. Hopefully this idea is not a 'fat hope' :?
Don't you guys try to create another "My Documents" folder in the BS and link to it a shortcut (from today)?
I have put to c-launch a link to /storage card/my documents and all is well!!!

Tom Tom, I dont want to remove it.

Hello All,
Recently i have installed tom tom 5 with gb map and voices as well, but for some reason its slows down the magician, i guess the memory does'nt allow
heavy programs. All i want to know, may somehow i can upgrage ram or rom ? OR transfer whole tom tom into my sd card its 1 gb anyway. I copied tom tom cab files and
gb map plus voices in to sd card and run them from there, i thought its gonna be installed in sd but may be it did'nt.
Does anybody came with this experience before please let me know.
Regards .
Thanks

You can do both. There are companies who offer to upgrade RAM from 64MB to 128MB. I had this done by a company in Germany (can't find the link right now), and there are others in other parts of the world.
However, you can also just move TomTom to your SD card, which is quite a bit cheaper
Plan A: It's been a while since I installed TomTom on my Magician, but I really think ActiveSync asked me if I want to install it to the default location. If you chose "no" there, you'll get a list of alternative locations, including the SD card (must be in the PocketPC at that time, of course). Maybe someone can confirm this - then all you'll have to do is to uninstall (from the PocketPC only, not from the PC), then re-install TomTom.
Plan B: If Plan A doesn't work, you can copy the .cab files to your PocketPC. But then, instead of just opening them, get cabinstl (http://www.s-k-tools.com/util.html). Run it once, and tick "associate cabinstl with CAB files". After that, you can just double-tap .cab files as usual, and cabinstl will appear. In the "Path" line, enter a directory on your SD card to extract the cab to it.
Additionally, there are a few other things you can try:
- there is a registry settings that contains the DLL path, i.e. a list of directories Windows Mobile will scan to find DLLs. If you add a directory on your SD card to that, you can move most of the big DLLs (not only TomTom's) to that directory. Use Resco Explorer for moving. If you don't want to da that manually, try MemMaid (http://www.dinarsoft.com), which can do that automatically.
Note: I found that moving Today Screen DLLs may cause problems, so you should leave them where they are.
- your Magician has more memory than you think. Try searching the forum for "Big Storage". This allows you to gain an internal flash area of 27 MB - large enough to install most programs there, which is exactly what I did.
Hope I could help you. My MDAc is as fast as ever, even with TomTom.
Cheers
Daniel

Problem with registry tweak to store emails on storage card

I'm using Pocket Outlook on my device and I've been testing a registry tweak to allow emails to be saved on the Storage Card.
I didn't know this was possible until I saw the following blog article:
https://blogs.msdn.com/mpoulson/archive/2006/01/09/510839.aspx
The tweak described causes the following to happen on my device
registry tweak:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\MAPI
AttachPath String “\storage card\mail\attachments” (no quotes) - this setting already existed on my device
PropertyPath string “\storage card\mail” (no quotes)
After applying this registry setting and doing a soft reset, I noticed the following folders on my storage card
"storage card" gets renamed to "storage card2" this contains all the original storage card folders
a folder named "storage card" appears which contains the following folders:
/mail/mail and /mail/attachments
...clearly something wrong here...
I've read this article here http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=569&more=1
and it's clear that Pocket Outlook will, by design, store emails in main memory but was hoping that this registry tweak would get around this.
I've since reset my device and reinstalled the AKU2 ROM update to get it back to normal
Any thoughts on this?
Many thanks
device: 02 XDA Exec
ROM version: 1.30.107 WWE
ROM date 04/11/06
Radio version: 1.09.00
Protocol version 42.42.P8
You don't need to do a registry tweak, as you have the option to use the storage card by default in the email set up wiz
Just click options before you finish the connection settings
Thanks for this lanesra
I've seen this option. The option you're referring to though is only for saving email "attachments" to the storage card and not the email "database" itself.
I think you're referring to the option on the "storage" tab within email settings
This clearly says "store attachments on storage card"
I'm looking to see if I can get the email "database" itself saved to the storage card
Am I missing something, are you referencing another option somewhere maybe?
Hi,
summary of what I've read somewhere here:
the problem of the reg-hack is, that on reboot/startup the storage card driver gets initialized AFTER the messaging today plugin, so WM5 doesn't find the directory and creates a "storage card" dir. After init of storagecard-driver, WM5 assigns "storage card 2" to real SD-card.
If you apply the hack you shouldn't have the messaging plugin on today screen. Also I'm not sure about what's going on after resume (just a thought)
greets,
tom
Thanks for the info mda2k,
I also posted this topic in the pocketpcmag forums and included your response there.
I've just found that Menneisyys from the pocketpcmag blogs/forums has done a great write up on the solution for this and responded to my post
You'll find the write-up here
http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/in...can_store_your_activesyn&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
I've also just seen here http://www.tleone.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=61&Itemid=59 that there is additional info on this tweak to also move any existing mail on a device from main memory to the storage card as part of the update.
Try to install these cabs:-
MoDaCo_CardInbox.CAB
Card_Cache.CAB

don't know if you can get your photos and movies back, but you should definitely apply the latest SD patch to your P3600/Trinity. you can get it here. all findings (so far) suggest that this will correct SD card issues... good luck recovering your lost photos/movies.
Did you try putting the card in a cardreader and access it from a PC?
If you already did this with no luck, then try a recovery utility or an application that includes recovery functionality, e.g. 'HexEdit'.
Sorry to be a spoilsport, but the patch mentioned above is for the Artemis, and it will have no effect at all on a Trinity.

care to share your reasoning for this "NOT" having an impact on the Trinity? I've have noticed faster access to the SD card and the card does not "disappear" after extended sleep modes. it's working for me.
All that this cab does is installing a file called omap850_sdhc.dll in \windows
The name of the dll alone would imply that it is meant for a device with a TI OMAP 850 processor, but furthermore, a file with this name does not exist in \Windows on my Trinity, so obviously a dll with this name is not used by any drivers or applications, which means that it will have absolutely no effect other than using 42K of space.
And a little more evidence:
Try having a look in the registry on a Trinity under the key HKLM\Drivers\BultIn\SDHC
There will be a String value "DLL"="SDHC_SC2410.dll"
On a device with a TI OMAP 850 processor, like my Wizard, the entry will be "DLL"="OMAP850_SDHC.DLL"
Hi
thanks for your help but i found a solution...
i used a card reader and 'pc Inspector smart recorvery' and with this software i recoverded 60% of all my pics.
IS there a cab for the trinity ?
