Does anyone know how to get my Tmo Wing to stop vibrating when its on ring for incoming calls and messages?
It can be very annoying that when it's on my desk it vibrates louder then the ringtone.
Try raising the volume, if that dont work.
Try an other rom. There are some usefull How-To's here.
Oh BTW. Welcome to the forum!!!

Start>Settings>Phone (under the personal tab)
change the ring type
what i don't like is how i can hear the vibration better than i can feel it.
think about it as like a secondary ring mechanism.
i think the prevailing philosophy of many companies these days is "its not a flaw its a feature"

I havent actually taken my phone out of the house yet, so I dont have any actual experience with the vibration (having it in my pocket and seeing if i feel anything). But wow, it seems really weak to me.
Usually I can hear my phone vibrate against the table when im at home, but I cant hear anything from the X1 at all.
Do you guys frequently miss texts and calls because of the weak vibration? or is it actually decent and im just crazy?
nope vibration strong.

I find it pretty weak also..along with the horrible speaker position, I too miss texts and calls.
If it wasn't for the vibration i'd be screwed. The ringtones are so low compared to videos/games. I don't understand what's wrong with the ringtones! I'm playing an mp3 and it sounds like 5 times lower volume then when I play it in a media player...what gives?
Is the volume of your ringtone loud? Tend to find most custom ringtones don't have enough amplification.

I bump the volume up of my tones in Audacity
Well, bouth the vibration and speaker is as bad as the w880i. All ringtones that use anything but treble is crap. The vibration is better with pulse vibration. So i use Valert that i found here at xda.

Does it change the SMS vibration as well as the incoming call vibration? I just want the SMS really, I don't mind my calls going to voicemail.
hmm I'm just using a regular mp3, but the thing is if I play it through coreplayer or the media panel it sounds a lot louder then when I have it set to a ringtone. Should I really have to increase the volume of a regular mp3? It's just going to distort it. I think it's mostly the speaker placement as it is easily covered.

I download valert and installed it to my phone. however, i can't find the program in the program list of the phone. Can you tell me how to execute this program or least where do i find/run the program from ?
On first install it puts the EXE in the Autostart folder, you can find it here, but it should be running automatically on every boot.
Weak?
Damn, when my X1 rings I feel like I just bought one of those machines you stand on and it vibrates your whole body for exercise.
The loudness depends on file.
I have one which is TERRIBLY loud.
I just find that the ringer is often not loud enough for me. Maybe it's my ripe old age of 32 that has brought me to this point of degraded ability but if I leave my phone downstairs or vice versa, I usually won't hear it ring. Worse is the one time sound notification, that's rather short in my opinion, for SMS's. Both of these are even worse if I forgot to remove my phone from the protective sleeve.
I searched and only found people having issue with the volume in relation to calls but no mention if I could increase ringer volume above what is currently selectable. Is there any way to increase this volume and/or extend the ring time for the text notifications?
http://www.wirelessinfo.com/content/T-Mobile-G1-Cell-Phone-Review/MakingReceiving-Calls.htm
According to that website, they tested the G1 ringer volume and found it to have the lowest dB of all the phones they tested.
Is it that speaker is underpowered? Is it possible that we may be able to re-encode the ring tones with a higher volume to help compensate?
I don't think it has a low volume... I think it has to do with what you are using because it is just as loud as my Wing when playing music.
What I'm using? As in which ring tone? I've tested several different ones and they all seemed the same to me. Do you have any suggestions?
I have the same problem frequently, it isnt that you dont hear the rings or notifications, they actually dont play at all. I have had this happen with my phone on in front of mewith a great signal, and I call it from another line. It "rings"(but never does), finally ending in a voicemail. When I hang up and check the G1 it shows a missed call and voicemail.
Unfortunately there is no fix, just a reminder that you bought a phone that shouldnt be expected to work until the system is given time to mature. Until then, you either return the phone, sell it, or live with its limitations. (or so I have been told)
No, I have that happen too, but I do frequently have it ring just not loud enough for me to hear it. I know because my girlfriend often has to tell me when it's ringing if I've left it in another part of the house.
I have also noticed that the ring volume isnt great with the standard wring tones. Using mp3 ringtones is better.
Notifications do sometimes seem buggy. I have had no notifactions with messages when i have had the message application open. Not even vibrate.
I have missed calls installed now for notifications and it seems to not happen anymore.
Theres also a program out in the market that allows you to create your own ringtones from full songs. You could just cut a song into a small section and use that for messaging.
Its called ringdroid

The down-side to this feature of the program is, the notification light will stop. If you check your missed calls, texts, so on from the bar on top.
You have to actually open the "programs" manually to keep the notification light working.
Ex. if you get a missed call, instead of pulling down the notification bar to check. Press the call button once.
if you get a text, open the messeging inbox using the messeging button or SMSChomp button.
Try to limit how often you have to pull the notification bar down.
Pulling the notification bar DISABLES ALL notifications of all kind.
i'm experiencing the loud incoming sms tone whilst im in a call and i couldn't listen to the other side talking. can anyone help me on this?
Yes its annoying when you're on the phone to your dentist and all of a sudden the tone 'Walllll-eeee' speaks over the top of you...not to mention sounds weird. And then you have to ask her to repeat. Quite embarrassing. I'd definately like a solution for this!

Hi all ,
I'm just asking if anybody tried a professional call blocker that rejects the call before the caller hears the first ring ????
actually I've tired some applications ... all of them, the caller hears the first ring then it hangs up ....
any idea ???

It is difficult to reject the call before the first ringing.
Try MagiCall 2 (share).
eye on call
i don't think there's a programe that can do that , but Eye on call is a great program that will give a busy tone in the middle of the first ring , so most of ppl won't notice it rang
Maybe lower tower polling to 0 would get close to intercepting it after the first ring. Mine is set pretty high for battery life, and during a few test calls, I've heard 3-4 rings before the phone even turns on lol
It's a good thing most people I know text me.
Why do you not set your phone in flight mode? Or only on vibrate?
Can you elaborate on the use case why you want this
Well there is a software SPB Phone Suite...This does exactly what you want.
You can get it over here http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/phonesuite/

Hey guys,
For some reason my hero is causing a lot of problems in terms of answering phone calls. If I stand 10 feet away from the phone, I have full connectivity and if I call my phone from another phone, I get the trackball lighting up on my hero when I've heard the 3rd ring on the phone I'm calling from. If I carry on listening, by about the 6th ring I get my first ring on my hero. This is a very big problem as people give me a call and I used to answer immediately and so no one waits more than 2-3 rings. Is there a fix for this?
Many Thanks
try menu > settings> sounds and display. Turn off the "quiet ring on pickup"
try Cronos rom, your hero will ring immediately as a call's coming
Hey guys,
Thanks so much for your help. I've tried it on chronos and disabled the option for a day and have been asking everyone of my caller about which ring it was (1st, 2nd or 3rd) and the good news is I get the trackball half way through 2nd ring and the ringtone on the 3rd which is a very significant improvement. If it is possible to improve it slightly more then it would be perfect. I dont need it straight on one maybe missing the first ring on the max.
Thanks again!
