I can get the devices to pair, and the orange light flashes, so I should be getting data.
But Google Maps doesn't see any satellites.
Is there a cookbook manual for all the settings?
Tom
Pair it, setup a COM port and in Google Maps pick the port.
I have my GPS20C working perfectly fine with WM6.1 and numerous applications including Live Search, Google Maps and Garmin Mobile XT.
Okay it's paired.
But how do I "setup a com port"?
p.s. It works with my iPAQ 2115 - Pocket Streets says it's on COM8.
But I still can't get the Wing to see it.

how do you get tom tom working ?
it keeps telling me to instal maps, wich i already did
Did you use official map installs or warez?
the map that comes with the tom tom software, you first install the navigator app and then you can install maps, then i install the netherlands and want to start tom tom on my mda and it says that i should install maps from the cd first
I had this, I think it happened because I installed everything at once without clicking the "ok" buttons on the PDA after each app installed (i.e it installs about 5 things, tom tom nav, tom tom gps, tom tom wizard, tom tom maps etc). If you dont click ok after each one it can get confused and not install the map.
Uninstall the map using activesync add/remove, then re-install it from the cd, making sure to click ok on the pda if it asks you.
If that doesnt work uninstall the whole lot using activesync, soft reset, then install from scratch but make sure to keep an eye for ok buttons on the pda while installing.
Also make sure you have enough memory, the maps are big (16mb, 32mb, 64mb and 128mb...dont know how big the netherlands one is).
Jez.
well its working now i think it was because the memory card i installed it on was not empty, i used an empty card now and everything is working
I cannot get it to install completely, as soon as i click on install it finds my JAM and an error message appears saying something about "File hierarchy" and tomtom support say that JAM is not a compatible phone for the navigator system. Can anyone help
anybody try the tomtom BT GPS?
works good for me with tomtom3 and blue tooth tomtom GPS.
first i had problem to install but it was because i use a USB hub.tomtom need a direct connection to install (there is a faq on TomTom site).
after to connect the bluetooth GPS ,you open Tom tom navigator , you ve got to go on the icone GPs state, then in Gps Folder choose "TomTom Wireless GPS" in the first window and "Bluetooth GPS" in the second.
good luck...

Your freezing problem is prob because of your choice of memory cards, certain cards work well some not @ all, lotsa threads about this.
yeah i just found that out i have a peak ultra 60x high speed 1gb sd and a 256mb simpletech one the simpletech one works great but yet the 1gb one freezes
I am using the TomTom BT GPS w/ my Jam too.
But I am not using the Tomtom software (since I found Routis V2 is much better for voice prompt and routing in US). I don't even need to install the GPS driver. Just pair it once and it will connect eveytime I open up my GPS software.
Four things about Tom Tom on JAM:
1. It seems to be equally as buggy as the rest of the JAM so no knowing when wierd stuff happens whether or not it is TomTom or the JAM or something else. That said when you do get it going, it does work nicely most of the time. Some intermittent weird behaviour:
- sometimes won't change maps
- keeps turning JAM back on when I turn it off. Have to close TT3 to get it to stop.
- without a power source, screen keeps going dark
- occassional BT issues
2. When TomTom doesn't see the maps at all but you know you've installed them, make sure you haven't deleted a file in the root of your SD card called "ignore_my_docs" which is a zero byte file that is hidden. This caused me a bit of pain for a while.
3. Because of my previous issue, I discovered when I emailed TomTom support that TomTom doesn't in fact support this release on the Magician and won't help you if you tell them that is what you have. So if you do need support make sure you give them the name of a device that they do support.
4. TT3 user interface leaves a lot to be desire IMHO, and the one thing that drives me nuts is that I have this SD card full of wonderful maps that I have paid for yet I can't simply type in an address just to look at the map, I have to pretend to make a journey, connect the GPS, blah, blah, blah. The only way around this I found is that if you keep address information in your contacts, you can select the "Show TomTom map" option.
I've TT3 3.07 on my magician with an adapt bt gps and it works fine. You do have to shut down the application as stated above, the device will keep switching on if you don't. But one problem is irritating: I live in Belgium where there is a general speed limit of 120 Km/h. I set the prefs so that the safe speed warns me showing no map but only arrows. If I drive too fast for a while the QTek S100 switches off and sometimes back on if I slow down under 120 Km/h. I didn't have this prob on my other, wired, device.
Can you help? I have just acquired a very small GPS receiver, the Holux GPSSlim 240, which is excellent and seems to work with my Varios II so far. It is fine with it's own GPS receiver checker and works very well with Google Map; the problem is Tom Tom 6 which has only twice seen the actual GPS receiver. When it has worked it appeared fine but I cannot get it to work again.
I have made 'GPS settings' available within settings (using Hermes fit4cat) and have succesfully BT paired the device (obviously) - the problem seems unique to Tom Tom 6. I have seen other posts and suggestions but they do not solve the problem.
Within WM5 settings/system - I have GPS program port: COM2, GPS hardware port: COM4 Baud: 57600, and the "Manage GPS automattically..." is ticked. Within Bluetooth Settings I have ticked 'serial port', and within 'COM Ports' I have the "Holux240" tied to COM2. I have also tried the program on Com Port 9 - Google map and the GPS Receiver Test app worki fine but TT6 seems not to see the GPS Receiver.
Any ideas would be most welcome - I am keen to try out TT6.
EDIT: Problem solved , after much searching of other sites I came back to this here and found that the issue with TT6 appears to be it's incompatibility with the WM5 setting "Manage GPS automatically (rec...)". I followed the instructions (from the link) which included turing this off and TT6 connected immediately! However, I have now found that Google Map, which previously worked consistently) will now not work at all.
My Conclusion: TT6 has problems with WM5 management of GPS via BT but Google Map seems to require it! Interestingly, the Holux GPSSlim 240 PPC software "GPS Receiver" seems happy with or without WM5 management of the GPS. I assume that Tom Tom will, in due course, issue a fix.
Thanks

Beat me to it! I actually have the exact same GPS with Tomtom6. That thing is tiny isn't it?
Problems Solved?
I have just updated TT6 to version 6.010 (simple overwrite of TomTom Navigator.exe) and it now appears to work OK with WM5 management of the GPS. That means I can now run 4 applications that all require GPS access and all seem to work simultaneously! - albeit memory allocation means they get a little slow....
I have just been running TT6 (ver 6.010), Google Map (PPC ver 1.0.0), MS Live Search (ver 1.0.2592.31374), and MoDaCo CameraAware (- all with GPS access working and managed by WM5. Each of the 4 apps now starts and automatically connects to the BT GPS receiver (TT6 even starts BT ok and connects within about 15 secs).
Settings to achieve this are:
WM5 BT - GPS Receiver partnership with Serial Port ticked, Receiver added to Outgoing port as Com 2 (secure connection not ticked).
GPS Settings - Program port set to Com 9, Hardware port set to Com 2 at 19200 (4800 is enough I believe), Access tab - tick in the box "Manage GPS ..."
TT6 - (Installed on micro SD Card) Holux GPSSlim 240 configured as "Other Bluetooth ..." on Com 2 (interestingly Com 9 will not work and I thought this was the one that should be used given WM5 management in my case).
Google Map - (Installed on PDA) Google map just connects so I do not know what port it is accessing on. Presumably it just searches [prts till it gets one that works. Interestingly Google Map will not work unless WM5 is allowed to manage the GPS connection.
Live Search - (Installed on micro SD Card) Works on either Com 2 or Com 9. Note: it appears that even though you can set the map cache (up to 8Mb) to the storage card that this setting is not saved so not sure where it is saving the cache (time will tell with memory available on the device).
MoDaCo CameraAware - (Installed on micro SD Card) works on both Com 2 and Com 9. Seems to work alongside TT6 - will report back.
Holux provide a "GPS Viewer" PPC application and that connects to the GPS receiver on either Com 2 or Com 9. Not sure all this is the way it should work but it seems OK for me.

I tried to use TomTom on my wing, but it cannot recognize my BT GPS.
TomTom works fine on Wizard.
I installed Google map and Yahoo go on Wing, GPS works well with Google and Yahoo, but TomTom cannot connect to GPS.

you have to do two (maybe three) things:
1. activate the 'serial port' service, when you pair the BT GPS
2. create an 'outgoing port' in the 'com ports' part of the bluetooth setting
3. configure tomtom to use an 'other bluetooth gps' on the com port you configured in 2.
good luck

of course, we did on my MDA !
But TomTom on Wing cannot get GPS work
it is T-mobile ROM problem, I flashed to my cooked ROM, it is working now!
Device is a VZW-6800 with rom 3.12, radio 3.39 with the 'fix; applied...
Just playing around I found that changing the device settings to COM3 connects quickly compared to COM4. I tested Google Maps and connects are 5-10 sec on COM3 where on COM4 5-10min or more...
The issue is I cannot get TomTom 6 to open even with Google Maps connected, I get No GPS device. I have changed the setting in TomTom to COM3 but no luck. I also have AstroGPS Launcher installed still no luck...
COM3 works for Google not Tom so for the newbie what is it that I do not know about COM3 where I cannot get it to see Tom? I will not see HTC GPS Tool neither?
Help...

yeah i like to use COM 3 for google also. i use live search for directions, not TomTom, so i really cant help you there. but you could try com ports 3, 4, and 5 with it. you could also prime the connection with WiFiFoFum.
Hi,
I have a problem with configuring GPSGATE on a PPC.In the BT menu I can select for outgoing COM port only COM 0,6 and 8.GPSGATE sees in the input tab the ports COM 1-4,7,9.When I mamually make it COM8 the app says the port can't be opened.Tried to remove all BT paired devices and com ports from BT settings menu but still the app is not seeing the other ports.
How to "free" up the ports 6 or 8 for gpsgate?
I searched the forum for this but found nothing relevant.
Other info:

Hi,
i have a problem with getting memory map to work! i am running tt7 fine but cannot get memory map to open the port th BT reciever is set to...driving me completely bonkers. I had both working with wm5. I could set a incoming and outgoing port but no such look in wm6.10.00.
any quick solutions would be greatly apreciated...ta.
Hi,
With tt6 & tt7 I made a little success because if you let these programs for a while after some time (usually 1-5 minutes) suddenly they connect to the Nokia LD-3W and work fine (Outgoing COM port is set to whatever is free and GPS Inter.driver is set to off - if I'm not wrong it doesn't matter at all for tomtom what is set up in the Inter.driver, only the BT setup is important and that the devices have to be paired).
With iGO 6 & 8 I did not manage to connect it to the Nokia LD-3W (I think it's because the LD-3W looks for sats after having a BT connection). I used the iGO8 with my personal Holux M-1000 receiver and it worked, but only if the receiver had a stable sat connection (fortunately it searches for sats when it is switched on, and does not wait for a BT connection so I assume the problem might be with the driver of iGO, but I'm not an expert).
I don't know the Memory Map application but you should give a try to the GPSGate application. Maybe it solves your problem.
Cheers!
PS: I forget to mention that with the WM5 ROM (I don't remember which one) iGO6 worked superb with the Nokia LD-3W but the WiFi was a mess so I had to shift to WM6 and since then it's a never ending story
When this worked iGO8 was not available. But I'm a witness it worked...
