permanent 3G - Touch Dual, MDA Touch Plus General

[email protected],
I've a question, is there a way to switch 3G permanently on via CommManager? Editing registry or so. I know that I can set this in settings>phone>band, but in CommManager I can only select Automode or GPRS. The problem with that is, that I have a weak 3G signal where I live. So the phone registers to UMTS but whenever I start Internet, it switches back to GPRS, then back to 3G, after a time again to GPRS and so on. The phone stops any loading while reregister so this is really annoying, not to mention the lower speed on GPRS. I'd be happy with any solution. Thanks.

Forcing Hermes to GPRS rather than UMTS

Hi there,
I have read that other phones have the option to connect to GPRS only rather than UMTS. By doing this the battery life on the phone doubles. I have tried looking on the option settings for the phone but there doesn't seem to be a way to turn UMTS off. Has anyone found a way to turn off UMTS.
I prefer the extra battery time rather than the faster connection speed as all I'm doing is IM and emails
Sorry - I found out I can force it to GPRS only by setting the band to GSM only and not WDCDMA

HSDPA Keeps Turning Itself Back On

In the Comm Manager, I try to switch Data Connection (HSDPA for me on Orange UK) off, but it keeps coming on.
I don't want it on!
Is there a better way to keep it switched off until I request it to be re-enabled?
Should only come on when an app requests data access. Have you got something running in the background? Quickgps perhaps?
i can't turn mine off via the Comm Manager unless i put the phone in GSM only. fyi, the HD 3G bands don't work in the US.
Windows Live Messenger is running in the background but that should be sorted by the WiFi which is on.
I go into the Proxy Settings for Orange Internet and untick the box that says that "this connects to the internet". But then it automatically ticks itself again and connects!
Perhaps it's an Orange problem?
Don't think so - I'm on Orange too and it doesn't happen. Anyway, it's the phone's choice to connect to HSDPA, it has to actively make the connection.
My best guess is your phone is losing connection with your wifi for short periods, and thus resorting to the backup hsdpa.
I think I've found a solution:

Aren't you confusing 2 icons ?
The big plain H only means that SSDPA is available on the network. This doesn't mean you arer *using* HSDPA at this time.
The icon to look at is the one just on the right of the big H. When you are using HSDPA, it shows a little H with 2 arrows below. If it shows an antenna with the signal level bar below, you are not using HSDPA, but only GSM.
At least it's the way it works on mine. As soon as I need data transmission (like for weather forecast), it uses HSDPA since it is available. Otherwise, it uses GSM. Therefore,
mine turns itself on when i recieve a mms....could you be recieving one?
Close all applications using it!
Sometimes I forget to close Opera after using it, and it happens to me too!

Internet Connection / YouTube streaming

I have a small problem
When I watch youtube via the built in app, somtimes I able to watch the video within a few second, streaming is very very quick. Other times it takes ages to load and then only loads in short sections.
I have noticed that when the connection indicator (Signal strength) shows "H"then me streaming is quick
When the connection indicator (Signal strength) shows "E or 3G"
then me streaming is very slow.
Have a look at the 2 captures of my screen. Have a look at the top of the srceen, to the right of start icon.
The H & G icons change by themselves, without me doing anything, why is this?
What i would like is for the H icon to be there all the time so the i can enjoy fast streaming..... Is this possible???
I know these icons relate to mode either 3G or GSM but what does the H mean? I've noticed the the H icon comes on when i connect my phone to me laptop via USB, it then stays on when i disconnect.
Most of the time 3G is indicated
Anyone out there that can help me enjoy fast streaming????
Cheers
It all depends on your mobile operator, whether it is offering GPRS [G], EDGE [E], HSUPA [3G] or HSDPA [H], GPRS being slowest and HSDPA being fastest. Also many mobile operators have base stations equipped with normal 3G mode and some may be equipped with HSDPA which is 3.5G. If your mobile phone is connected to the base station offering 3.5G, then you will get fastest streaming. If you want to make your phone stay on [H] that is HSDPA, then your phone will get network only on HSDPA enabled base stations. Meaning that your network reception maybe weak or null at some instant.

i have also problem similar for that weak signal.
if the GPRS is showing in the network logo.. the network indicator is down or weak..but if only GSM it is good the network.
what will i do so that the GPRS signal is good just like the GSM...
because if i disable the GPRS, maybe i will not used the internet sevice...
any idea guys...

Problem with Mobile Internet Connection

Hey forum,
i go away from home and i have no more wifi connection.
Then i suddenly get a connection to mobile internet (EPlus) first.
As i am in an area without a connection and i come back to EPlus, i can use my phone for telephone and SMS but i get no internet connection automatically.
I must use the airplane-mode to totally logoff and 5 sec later go out of airplane-mode. In this way i get the internet connection back.
My wife has the same problem with Incredible S and GingerSense 1.3.
Is this maybe a problem of EPlus? Or is there anyone with tve same problem and another provider?
Andreas
Perhaps it's your wifi giviing you problems, going bad.
Sent from a dream.
If the signal of your provider (in this case Eplus) is weak, it might not find it right away.
Also, try going into Settings>Wireless settings then under Network mode, check if it says GSM/WCDMA
This setting will try to connect to 2G or 3G whichever has the strongest signal, however if both are available, 3G will be selected.

can I disable GPRS data

Hi all,
Can someone help me please : ) Thanks
The problem is network connection mode from GSM to WCDMA and opposite WCDMA to GPRS
Is It some way I can disable GPRS data connection, but keep WCDMA data connection + keep GSM signal as well
I will explain way : )
The problem is when Im driving my car and listen internet radio.
So when Im driving seem Im passing 3 Network Cells in my road to work
Each time when phone connecting to other cell first he connects to GPRS signal later he changes to WCDMA data Everything is logical maybe how the network cells works
But it is not good for me as the time phone goes to GPRS data / mode my radio stop working and before I have 3G signal maybe 5 minutes or more ….
1 When phone in GPRS mode and the radio on it is seams trying to stay for wile before connecting to WCDMA Maybe up to 5-10 minutes
2 When phone in GPRS mode and the radiooff phone in couple minutes changes to WCDMA
---------------
So one day I set my phone network to WCDMA MODE to see what happens and I can to believe that my phone all time keeps 3G ( WCDMA) connection without problem Internet radio work without stopping not crashing nothing at all everything perfect ….
BUT When I drive to my work place where is the signal very poor I have lost phone connection to network because my phone signal to only WCDMA MODE -- So to have signal in my work I need to change to GSM mode or auto mode
Is it some way I can have GSM mode + WCDMA MODE but without GPRS data connectivity or some way to block my phone connecting to GPRS mode data ?
Thanks for help
I have found on google play
Than someone have app for what I need The app name 3G Data Only
But I would like to know how manually I can disable 2G data ?
I do believe that in phone setting some way impossible to disable this + my phone rooted so I can what I need : )
