Orbit2 Phone X Button - Touch Cruise ROM Development

Hi. Can anyone help? I have an O2 XDA Orbit2 with a couple of annoying faults. The main one is that I cannot close down phone screens using the x button. The only way is by using the red "call end" button. When I hold down the x button I can sometimes see 3 or 4 phones although nothing shows up in running programs and I still cannot close these from the drop down menu.(I have i launcher installed, could this be relevant?) The other minor fault is that co pilot does not remove the start bar from the top or the input device(keyboard) icon unless I minimize and reopen. Please help a noobie if you can.

What you want?
For complete close of app you must used Task Manager. Any types, is many varios.
Which ROM you have?

Its an problem of the phone app, I think. Even with vbar it is impossible to close it. It just minimizes after using red button or close all in vbar. But after boot and starting it once, it stays loaded.
So it is on my Orbit (1)...

Stefan

how to completely close applications?

I find that when I visit SETTINGS --> SYSTEM tab --> MEMORY --> RUNNING PROGRAMS tab, there are always several applications running. It seems to be ones I have used and I pressed the cross or OK on the top right cornerto close it, but hey don't actually completely close. Is there a way to make sure they are closed and not running in the background?
You can install a task manager.
I recommend:
Wisbad Advance 2 (free as it is beta right now)
Good luck
how to realy close programs
im using the best software i think the "battery pack 2.1.1". this software will give u some other great stuff.

Magic Button from http://www.trancreative.com
Freeware as well, and will enable you to toggle the top bar between the standard window title and a neat windows-like task bar.
the one and only CloseAll does the work.
wow guys, thanks a lot for your speedy suggestions. I will check them out, thanks again.
My VJOkButt is a very low profile task killer and can also be used with AE button plus to replace the red key, since it will also simulate hanging up phone calls. So you don't lose a button, but merely double it's existing functionality.

Another vote for MagicButton. Very small memory footprint, shows you which tasks are running on the status bar, can choose which apps it leaves alone, and gives a battery meter too. I found that WA/PocketPlus/BatteryPack etc were all too much of a resource hog on the Wizard.

Be VERY careful with Battery Pack Pro.
Totally banjaxed my K-JAM, I had to do a hard reset to recover.
I am currently trialing Spb Pocket Plus.
Does what you want plus a whole load more and has NOT caused any problems on my PDA.
Except it would not work when installed on my MiniSD card only installed internally.

I am using DinarSoft's HandySwitcher it is also very small and unobtrusive

I have loaded MagicButton on my Qtek 9100 and it works realy nice. But when I check AutoStart option in Settings, and turn device off and on error message appears that mbutton cannot be opened as it is not signed with trusted cerificate. Any tip how to avoid this message?
I switched to Magic Button, but the biggest problem is that it cannot be used with a hardware key .
I'm using the PIE hardware key as Ok/Close, but MB is just minimizing the apps, not closing them, which is really annoying.
If someone made it to close apps, please share ... if it is not possible, I'll switch to other task manager.
Try HandySwitcher from DinarSoft it can be assigned to a HW button. It can also sit on your tray and/or topbar.

tried it. i assigned it to the PIE (internet explorer) hardware button but when i press it, it just brings up its menu.
what i want to do is to close apps when pressing the PIE button or any other hardware button
just tried vijay's vjokbutt, works like a charm for me, does what I want
RE
Can HandySwitcher or MagicButton close PIE or OPERA?
If not, then which task switcher can?
Thanks
@kelu: HS is actually a Task Manager so it will show you the list of running tasks and wait for you to decide which to close [that is why you see the menu and task list] to individually close an app you may tap the 'ok' button or do a 'tap-n-hold' [depends on what you put in the settings] of course this is not done via hw buttons. What I do when I don't have a stylus handy is I just hit the hw button and select 'Close All' now it may be a hassle to some people with multiple apps running but too me it is ok since I rarely run multiple apps [or more often than not I close the app when I am done via 'close all' before running the next one].
you can actually close applications by using the SIP keyboard and choosing CTRL-Q
this has worked ever since my Casio E105 (man, that was a long time ago...)

yes u are right, the ok/close functionality via a hardware button is not really conected to the task listing of a task manager, but nevertheless I found it very usefull
as a task manager now I use SmallMenu and GSPPocketMagic (I'm testing both to decide), as they are very light and they also extend the start menu

Phone app will not close / Programs window won't close

The most annoying thing ever!
The bloody app/programs window wont close!!
And not even hitting the k/b win logo > Today will work either.
Not even magic button works - only a soft reset will do it . then you are waiting till you either use the phone or venture stupidly into MyPrograms
Bloody infuriating..
anyone have a solution?
cheers guys,
LR
The phone app works best if you mark it as "Keep Alive" and "Don't show when inactive" in Magic Button. I've seen the "Programs" issue you mentioned, but selecting "Today" always gets rid of it for me.
Cheers,
Steve.
thx I will give the M. Button options a whirl!
Did you guys found a solution on the small blank square spot on the upper right hand corner of the screen where the OK button lies when using Magic Button?
Sorry - not sure what problem you are refering to...
Cheers,
Steve.
No problem with Magic Button...
For killing phone app, I found 2 utilities working...
First Xbar3...let you show the phone app and a trick to kill it.
Second one...http://www.vijay555.com/index.php?Releases:VJPhoneToggle works on 2003se and 2005 Qtek 9000.
Curious. Why would you want to close the Phone app?
Isn't it the whole point of the device?
If you use your pocketphone more as a pda than a phone, the phone app takes somme Mb of memory... Really closing it after a call give you the possibility to take some precious Mbytes back for running programs...
VJOkButt also has a specific option, -phclose, to close the phone after each use - very useful when assigned to the red hangup key with AEButtonPlus.
Note, closing the phone doesn't stop the phone ringing, so does save you some memory without sacrificing the phone's functionality, but it does cause a minor incompatibility - trying to dial from Contacts may crash out.
However, in day to day use I don't recommend closing the phone unless you're really tight on mem.

Actually, it is not a problem but an aesthetic concern on my part. I am not using any skin program. The last time I tried Magic Button, if I am at the today screen with no open application, the location on the upper right hand corner where the "OK" button is shows a blank square. I was just wondering if I am the only one who had this oddity.
I have no skinning soft and I don't have a blank square... The color of that part of the taskbar, when nothing written, is the same than the rest of the bar. But I read stuffs like yours on other forums...

I just tried Magic Button again, and no blank square. HOOOORRRRRAYYYY! I wonder what made that skin problem in the first place...

I can't seem to find this option in Magic Button. Can you please direct me on how?

Problem with Magic Button

Great little app, but I constantly find I can't close the last open application to get back to my Today screen - and if I go Start > Today, nothing happens - it seems as if the XDA *thinks* it's at the Today screen already, but my last open app (usually Phone) is still on screen, an no matter how often I clikc the little Magic Button X, it won't go away.
This only usually happens when I have a single app open, if I have 2 or more they close fine with Magic Button, right down till the last 1, then this problem starts.
Even more annoying because if I can't get to Home, I can;t lock the device.
I have a complaint about Magic Button also. On my wizard, it opened the phone menu everytime I close the window of Settings. The other annoying thing is that the X did not blend in with my theme colors. It's always a different color and looks very odd.
So what I did was uninstalled magic button and have started to use InClose program. It is MUCH better.
IMO, Magic button is crap. I dont know why people recommend it so much. Well ok, it might just be that it does not get on with the wizard.
It kept crashing for me, so i started using InClose. Brilliant freeware app and has been working perfectly for a few months now. Get it.
Zero problems with Magic Button here. Been running it for a while now
Magic Button was unacceptable to me on my Blue Angel and it's been no better for me on my Wizard. Personally I prefer wclose or smclose (which I believe are pretty much the same program) in conjunction with Smartskey.
Just my two cents worth!
I had the same problem with magic Button. After closing all the applications, the phone application would maximize. (you aren't allowed to actually close the phone application.) So with the phone application maximized, and no way to minimize it. It would get stuck on the top of the screen for me as well. I dont like in close either. It crashed alot on my system. Just use smartskey. It works great.
Hi, I had same problem with magic button and changed it to vbar (http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/vbar.shtml). It's nice program with one bug - the X/ok button have blue bacground no matter what theme and color you have.
For vBar you can select your own BMP picture.. ..works like a charm!
I've been using MagicButton for a long time now, and I didn't have any problem with it on my Wizard or Prophet.
Solved it, InClose was the answer, great app, thanks all!

HTC X-Button

HTC X-Button is now on the upload FTP in the Tools and Programs area - works great on the Hermes - use the new applet in the Settings menu to configure.
Thanks, moved to safe heaven: HTC X-Button.CAB
Report: Did not work on my 8525.
@patmannyc:
You have to enable it here first:
Start -> Settings -> System -> X-Button
Perfect...
Running well on my UNI_Beta 3.2..
Thank's
does this app allow real closing via the ok button as well as the x button?
It works great on my O2 trion ^^

No, this program allow close program by tapping "x" on the screen .
Thanks,
I uess there is no point in using this if you already have something like spb today plus then.
I nearly got excited!

Probably not much point as you say. I'm going to try it just to see all the options it has. If it's good it stays, if not bye bye!!
Mike
A very lightweight version instead of having to have something better, which is good.
I wish they'd integrate it with the ok/close buttons on the device though to make one handed use easier. By that I mean, press button = ok, hold button = close.
This or magic button? I feel magic button is better, lets u see the taskbar.
It does what it was intended to. Good work.
sutheep: yes, i tried this and stay with magic button 2
program is a bit cleaner than magicbuttons.
anyway, just need to find a simple battery program (since I've been using the one in magicbuttons anyway)
If you are looking for a small battery monitoring program try to find the program named "batti". It's really small and work good.
I found that, unlike other similar software, it closes ActiveSync, and handles not responding apps just like on BB: shows a message that the app does not respond and offers to kill it.
i thing it has a bug. try to tap x button when phone app active, it closes down phone app and it realy kills it so your phone app won't start anymore
Wouldn't SmartsKey works to achieve this?

Device freeze when close windows with X manila button

Hello,
it's not the first time I notice that my TP2 freeze when I have more than one application opened in background, and I want to close them all togheter using the X button (the one the appear on the bar when you press on the right top icon). The only thing that I can do is to remove the battery and restart the device.
I'm not sure but this strange behavior seems to appear only when I have Gyrator 2 installed on my device.
Does anybody else is affected by this problem and how can I solve it?
thank you
