Kill SPB Mobile Shell - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hi all,
I'm using SPB Mobile Shell 2.1 and iGO8 on a p3300 ; but it's not really fast
Is there's a way to kill the SPB Mobile Shell process to get more free memory ?
Thanx.

In my experience, once you kill the process it locks up your device and/or does nasty things until you restart.... Only option is to uninstall I believe.

Thank you for your answer !

if u dont want uninstall it for future use .... just delete the shortcut under windows\startup and restart

hi,
and dont use SPBWatcher as active Today-Plugin.
Deactivate it after delete link^^ in Autostart and befor softreset.
Or : use another navi like TomTom.
Igo takes much more memory then others...

Ya you can surely do that to prevent it from ever loading... but his topic was how to "kill it" so I figured he's assuming after it had already been run

Recommend SPB Pocket Plus+HButton
Pls, try with SPB Pocket Plus + HButton instead SPB Shell.
Cheer

re
I use the touch task manager from touch commander suite and there is no problem at all.
Moreover, it's easy to use with your fingers.
The best one for me.

Memory Leakage...Spb mobile shell causes this...

After installing MUN_RUS and LVSW roms....
The leakage is even worse them WM05 roms.
i start the day with 23 MB, and after 3 hours of work (push mail and some calls) it narrows down to 13-16 MB....
Anyone else experiencing this?
Nadav
No. I don't experience this. I have my phone on 24/7 and this doesn't happen even after long time of no resets.
Remember these are BETA roms
Unless your device was idle when it happened (which it wasn't), this is memory usage, not memory leakage.

Yes i understand,
but WM06 is supposed to improve this issue isn't it?
it is even worse then WM05.
Nadavi
That depends on how you look at it. Does WM6 free the memory when it is needed?
For example Vista uses loads of RAM in comparison to XP but that is actually a good thing and intended behaviour. Free RAM = unused RAM = useless RAM.
The only important thing is that applications get enough RAM when they need it.

Thats the issue here,
That Pocket pc software doesnt use that much, and doesnt stay resident in memory!
if so, upon closing of the software it should clear out the used memory, i was convinced that in WM06 that think is executed better then WM05.
well it isnt
anyway, about free memory, the device is being up for 13 hours now,
and 11MB free! i can't even run Navigation software.
i've installed
SPB pocket plus
SPB diary
spb mobile shell
spb phone suite
Eyron hebrew support.
Ezdial.
None of thoose are not standart software programs.
What is wrong in WM06?
Nadavi
Windows will not be unloading modules aggressively unless it needs more memory. In other words, if you start a program and then close it, memory usage is likely to change in comparison with what it was before you've started the program. If you run enough programs to really exhaust available memory, it will unload some modules it's not using. One of the reasons it's done is to speed up your program if you restart it...

I'm using SPB pocket plus to Really close each program being used.

What apps launcher do you recommend then as an alternative for SPB Pocket Plus??
I'm using SPB Phone Suite and SPB Pocket Plus :\
Almost every software that I know, is for WM5, not for WM6

Try iLauncher, but I think that it is for WM5 too Don't know any launcher for WM6
Well, they are for WM5, but most applications are also working properly on WM6.
I've tried iLauncher on WM5, but now i was thinking to try Pocket plus on WM6. The warning of LVSW is making me think twice
Any other recommendations for a good launcher?
I use SPB Mobile shell, SPB Diary and SPB weather...
I had no memory problems with these three when testing either lvsw or mUn ROM.

Really useful apps

Found a couple of applications that I find to be critical for the way I use my Hermes 8525. and thought I'd share plus start a thread on this topic.
PocketNav - http://www.scottandmichelle.net/scott/cestuff/pocketnav.zip is a handy application that replaces the X button with an button that allows you to see running apps and close most of them. I've had better success with this then the HTC X-button app though it won't close everything.
Fast Access Menu - http://www.pocketpccity.com/software/files/FAMdistr20i.zip is an application that sets up a launch bar similar to Windows where you can launch a lot of applications with a single button. A little difficult to set up but worth it.
I loved PocketNav in the WM3 days. Now that little lightning bolt just doesn't look right up there anymore. It also seemed to crash if I tapped on it while at the owner information screen was on after just turning it on.
There's a new x-button app floating around here somewhere whick you should look at. It's nice.
Just want to add http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/?en they have great software. I have about a dozen of there software and every piece of it is great.
can every body post a list of top 5 or ten applications they have in their handset

• Spb Shell
• TomTom 6
• Resco File Explorer
• Pocket Informant
• Spb Backup
....IMO.
Mine would be as follows;
--Battery Pack Pro
--Opera browser (midlet); much faster and more user-friendly
--Photo Contacts Pro
--BandSwitch (from Daniel Herrera)
--Cyberon Voice Dialer
IMHO
SPB Mobile Shell
SPB Insight
SPB Diary
TomTom 6
Opera Browser
1. SPB Phone Suite
2. SPB Mobile Shell
3. Anton Tomov Pocket Mechanic
4. Octro
5. Nine Hole Golf
These were the first ones I put back in after a ROM change.
Has anyone used 'Sentry 2020 for Pocket PC'? Any issues with it on the fly encryption or creating/using virtual volumes?
Any other similar software out there? Not the Resco File Explorer app. I'm looking for something more like truecrypt or pgpdisks in function

Try cryptostorage
SPB Mobile Shell is at the top of my list and if they ever incorperate now screen configurations and a way to use it completely instead of the today screen it will truely rock.

Spb Mobile Shell 3.0 stopped TouchFLO3D working

Hi
I installed the trial of Mobile Shell onto my diamond, really just to see what it was like.
However it doesnt seem to have installed properly, and now neither mobile shell or TouchFLO are working. The phone still works in that I can use all the applications, settings etc, theres just a blank screen where TouchFLO should be.
I've tried to uninstall mobile shell using the Remove Programs feature on the phone and also through Sync Centre but it doesn't appear as an installed program.
If anyone could help me fix this i'd be really grateful
I don't know SPB Mobile Shell at all, but u should disable
TouhFlow from Today screen if u want to use SPB....
check the option in "today" if touch flo is flagged. or backup and hard reset
Try SKtools. It has the best tool for removing programs.

you can use both TouchFLO and SPB Mobile Shell.I have done it and I wrote a way to do that in the SPB Mobile Shell 3 Thread.
the same thing happend even to me. just disable touch flo and than try to install again spb mobile shell.after that reset your mobile phone and u will have again spb. than u can find spb in your unistall list so that u can uninstall. do a soft reset again and than u can activate yout touch flo.
myself i did this and it worked perfectly.
Ah yes that worked thanks guys

Help On SBP Mobile Shell v3

i have installed mobile shell v3 on my xperia but when i press the xpannel button my phone gets hanged and the spb pannel is also not there in the list of my pannels?....wht to do plz me its urgent
its also works very slow....
rom version r3a
Is Spb mobile shell 3 a panel???
see i dont know any thing . i am new to this . i have just bought my x1 2days ago....so plz guide me ....i dont know if it is a pannel or a desktop.....how to disable it and use normal pannels?....or any other thing which i can do
Spb Mobile Shell 3 is not a panel, nor a today plugin.
Install the latest version Spb Mobile Shell 3.0.1 Beta 3 (build 6488) and the problem about hanging when pressing the xbutton is solved. Like the ppl above mentioned, its not a panel so you don't get spb mobile shell 3 in the panel list. It is integrated in the today panel.
It's a question of choice: either you use the panels or you use MS. Using both seems like a lot of overkill. I have removed the panels from the device (or rather the autostart-files) and use MS for all my needs.
so is ther any way to use both...mobile shell and the pannels , without unistalling any of them
why is that as what u said u dont have to uninstal anything i have R3A and instaled the SPB MS 3 beta 3!and my phone is working perfectly even better than R2A..there is no problem u may need to check what is going on ether a conflict or u have to hard resat...make sure u back up n it wont take an houre of ur time!
PROPZ
i meant to say that without unistalling mobile spb ms 3 i cant use pannels .....so i wanted to use both at without unistalling any one of them

You can run SPB MS from the WM start menu, there should be an icon for that. However you are wasting a lot of memory by doing this. Both Sense and MS are UI (User Interface), and they are designed to be operated by themselves. I don't see what you are accomplishing by doing this. It is simpler to just disable sense in the settings today menu if you want to run MS, and then re-enable it to run Sense.
You will need to remove the MS lnk file from \Windows\Startup if you want to run SPB Mobile shell manually. By default it loads every time you reboot.
I tried to disable the sense but then when i re-enable it the phone freezes ??

Was that mskip's shellswitcher, found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=667371&highlight=mskip ? It runs various UIs, disabling what isn't needed.
I just use TF3D to Mobile shell switcher... I remap it to my PTT button and when I want to use the different interface i just push the button and the program checks which one is running and then switches to the next one...
Although I like a little bit of Sense 2.5 I think i run 99% of the time Mobile shell.... its lighter in memory usage, lighter on battery drain, and also i have all the apps at fingertips with ease....
You can try my ShellSwitcher, published on xda forum (see my signature for link)
ShellSwitcher is the application that i found and it works good. basically it disables one and enables the other.
i attached the file to save the time for searching for it. enjoy
