8925 GPS program CAB - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I know this topic is beat to death and everyone has their own opinion on GPS programs, but currently I'm using a iGPS-BT with a GPS-500 sensor and I've been using google for a while... Just found Microsoft live maps and like it for the speech recognition... Now I've heard that the 8925 GPS program can be installed on the 8525, where can this cab be obtained from?
Also non related topic... I have a HTC case on my 8525.. Where can the front camera be obtained from... Its not a huge worry to me since its been missing since I put the case on but if I could get one that would be kinda cool.

HTC Voice Recorder

Where can I get this pesky mite from?
I recently updated to Black Shadow on my TyTn, and the woman has HTC Voice Recorder on her standard HTC bought TyTn. This would be a vital tool for my journalism, but I can't seem to find a download for it anywhere...anyone got a head up?
Now, I'm not asking for any of the others that are mentioned, I solely want this specific dooda.
Any help would be great, thanks.

TomTom or Garmin?

Hi all,
I've looked through the first 7 pages of this forum and can't see this question asked or answered anywhere.
I have my shiny new O2 XDA Ignito sitting in front of me and it is crying out for some sat nav software.
I have looked at TomTom navigator but from reading some of the posts on this site it appears TomTom 7 is the vogue. What are the differences between the two?
Is Garmin's mobile sat nav any good?
If I go for TomTom where is the best (sorry cheapest) place to buy it from on DVD?
Cheers.
Matt.
Garmin
Garmin Mobile XT is fantastic. I have it on my Tilt and it's as good if not better than the GPS in my car. It does turn by turn verbally which is a must. It even works in my pocket. You can have 3d maps or regular. It has traffic and automatic re-routing. It comes on a micro sd card and once you plug in the card it asks if you want to install. That's all there is to it.
The maps are great and detailed. The options are many. I love my Garmin and can't figure out why people aren't jumping on it. It's a one time cost rather than every month. Garmin is a great company to deal with and will be around when many of the others are gone.

Does it come on CD/DVD though as the XDA Ignito (HTC Diamond) doesn't have a card slot?
Matt
My dad got a seperate GPS unit with the Garmin CD and it can install and show the map just fine, but cant use the internal GPS so that's totally useless. Of course that GPS brick should be optional if your phone includes a GPS (I mean you pay for it regardless).
Had to aquire that online special version just to get the thing working
use TomTom Navigator 7 - specificly developed for the VGA HTC Touch Diamond. Works perfect for me.
TomTom, it's perfect!
i use igo8.
found it to be better than tomtom.

Rang Garmin and after 20 minutes they answered. They conformed you can buy their software on DVD but you have to buy the GPS receiver as well... something to do with unlocking the maps using a receiver code or something!
So as a result it looks like TomTom is the way forward for me.
When I go to the TT website it makes no mention of TT 7 and yt loads of you guys on here appear to be using it. Where do I get it from and how much is it (I know Navigator 6 is £87)?
Thanks in advance guys.
Matt.
TomTom7 is superb, in terms of obtaining a copy, a mere google search would probably locate it straight away, free or paid for
Would definately go for TT7 as they are what I would call the market leaders (for Europe anyway). I've used both and perhaps gotten used to TT7, but I have been using it for TT5, TT6 and now TT7 and it works with great map support for US, Europe and Australia. Suggest you google or download the cab from numerous folks here (...search!!) and then buy the maps (whatever) accordingly!
i have both tomtom7 and Garmin XT...diference is in refresh...TomTom refreshes position like 0,5 s and Garmin 1-1,5s
But i preffer Garmin ( we have better maps for our country for Garmin )
hey man go nav n go IGO8!!! better than tt7: faster, prettier & full 7digit postcodes in uk fresh speed cameras waypoints etc

I spent much of yesterday (to my wifes disgust!) searching this site and google for a link from which to download TT& and the only one I could come up with was this one

posted on this site by Mahmood on 2/06/08. Unfortunately it didn't work. I couldn't find any others... maybe I couldn't see the wood for the trees, who knows?

Just looked on their website at IGO 8. The site states that it will only work off the original SD memory card... Diamond doesn't have a slot!

TT7 also supports full postcode search with the ZIP plugin (easily found) and speed camera notifications

TomTom?
IGO?
Garmin?
McGuider! (aka Sygic DRIVE)
Works absolutely great on my Diamond, uses a nice black theme which fits perfectly, has lane guidance, detailed spoken instructions, nice fluid 3D graphics, the lot.

CoPilot Live 7 HTC Touch Diamond Edition

http://www.alk.eu.com/diamond/default.asp
Does any one have a demo that I can download, test
Do you mean a demo or a "demo"?
Heheh, nice remark....know what you mean with that
i had the demo and the option to buy it cheaply as it came with my device, but i just deleted it :O i use TomTom so it was no use, ill see if i had any backups of it
CoPilot Live 7
I haven't seen a reply to this in a long time and wondered if anyone has a working demo or "demo" version yet ?
Me too
I have been searching all over, downloading all sorts of crap and getting a million viruses along the way cause i wanna try it before i buy it
I am using TomTom version 6 works great on the Xda Ignito/ HTC Touch Diamond the maps are readly avalible online and it is only 2 cab files you need to install. no need for any copy and paste just install and it works a treat
got it! its rubbish and pointless to get. Get iGO8

Footprint Albmum

Hail & ho one and all...
Thought I would create a new thread for us with working copies of Footprints to be able to show off what we can do with our TP2!!
Great idea, I am still wondering what this application can do on the Rhodium. I did found this demo on youtube, but the guy is using the HTC Touch Cruise. Can our device do the same?

Offcourse it can
All you need is GPS and a Camera on your phone.
But HTC stated they will only "enable" footprints on certain camera-featured phones. Offcourse that won't stop xda-devs from releasing mods for TF3D to add it to any other phone
I'm not sure if there is an existing mod yet, but I would be surprised if there weren't.
The Rhodium does have GPS and a camera. And the latest TF3D 2.5 got a Footprint tab. But it doesn't seems to work like the HTC Touch Cruise or am I mistaken?

Anyone upgrade from Kaiser to Leo?

Hi,
I'm specifically wanting to chat to users who has upgraded from a Kaiser to the Leo?
I know its a narrow request but im still using my kaiser and really want to know the impact of the loss of the hardware buttons etc.
Thanks
Kaiser to Leo
I've owned a kaiser for almost two years now and have been following XDA since the first day I got it, and with any luck i'll be getting the leo next week thru TMO. and will post any information I can.
Yep. Forgot about the Kaiser as soon as I got the Leo. Put it on sale, took it out again after a week to wipe/pack it, and wondered how on earth I spent 2 years on that tiny and slow brick.
The keyboard is missed indeed, but that's minor next to the rest.
moving from the Kaiser to the Leo is one thing you shall not regret..
the capacitive multitouch screen is awesome for typing, the big size makes it even better...
the 1ghz processer makes everything totally fluid, from the interface to the camera..
im sure you remember the openGL problems in the kaiser (hardware 3d acceleration), well that will be a thing of the past with the LEO which has openGLES 2.0 support
but hey, thats just my opinion
Two months ago I had to sent my HD2 for screen repair, at that time I was forced to use my Kaiser for a week. I was so shocked, everything was so slow and I could not orientate on the small screen.
I upgraded from Kaiser to Leo (HD2). The HD2 is the single best windows mobile device ever bar none IMHO. Upgrade now you will not regret it.
Thanks for your responses, please keep them coming!
The other question i have is: Which apps did you lose when you upgraded?
My list of favourite apps, are in my signature, so if you happen to know how well they run on the Leo, i'd appreciate the feedback.
Theoretically, they should all work, given my Kaiser is running 6.1 but since screen resolution may be a limitation of any application, i'd sure like to find out before i commit.
Lastly, is there any videos that show how appointments are displayed on the Leo's Today screen? Can you still add today screen items?
And is there a standby button to lock the screen and turn the screen off?
Cheers!
had Kaiser before Leo
There will be some things you will miss, but it will depend on how you use the phone and for what purpose.
I miss being able to highlight text in the calendar header (without having to go to edit mode. It is more difficult to highlight text without a stylus, and drawing in notes etc with a finger tip is a lot harder.
If you have added a lot of features to your Kaiser from XDA Dev (or other places). It will take you some time to find the adons to do the same functions. It's a whole new learning curve.
The HD2 is a giant step foward, but it does have it's quirks and frustrations. Plan on spending hours on here finding solutions.
It does not come with a belt case! You don't need a screen protector. The speakers are fairly CR#P. The graphics are fantastic - movies , photos etc. It has the Cool factor. Google maps are great on this.
The camera can be annoying - It won't take a picture until it can focus (if you have a moving object, can drive you crazy while it takes 10 seconds to focus).
The kaiser was great (would buy them for my staff), the HD2 is better.
I had to buy mine at full price as they are not brought into NZ by vodafone.
Note for any one in NZ - Vodafone phone insure wanted to replace my Kaiser (TYTN II) with a nokia E71, E72 or E75. they will not replace with a phone they do not sell, nor an iphone or BBerry The phone they sold for $1800, they replaced with a phone with resale value of $635.

Worldcard mobile is stock with the HD2, SPB wireless monitor works fine... never heard of all the other ones

By default the HD2 doesn't use the Today screen anymore, it's replaced by the HTC Sense interface. Check the official videos for a glimpse. You can enhance it (see this), disable it and go back to the old Today screen (would remove most of the HD2's beauty though), or integrate a Today screen within it as a tab (see this).

Will SPB Wireless monitor stay on the SenseUI front page?
Can you post a screen shot please?

Nope, but it's the only reason why I use MTP
I'm looking to make this very upgrade as Virgin UK have what seems like a very good offer on at the moment - £25/month and HD2 for free. I do just have a couple of questions that may make the decision to move from my Kaiser easier for me - they might be silly questions, but here goes anyway:
A problem I currently have with the Kaiser is that the lock screen is very dim and I really struggle to see it in sunlight - does this problem still exist with the Leo?
I am very used to using the stylus or the keyboard and find that I make only a few mistakes in text entry - is the Leo's screen keyboard as easy to use and is there a text entry screen similar to the block recogniser or letter recogniser in WM6?
GPS on the Kaiser is very slow to get a fix using TomTom 6 - is the Leo quicker and will TomTom 6 still run on the Leo?
My Kaiser will usually go for a couple of days without a charge - with the same sort of use what sort of life should I expect with a Leo?
Many thanks in anticipation of some useful replies.

1) You'll have no problem with the lock screen on the Leo. A gesture is all it takes to unlock it and you can choose your own screen for good measure.
2) There are various inputs available for the HD2. Using the touch screen after being used to a hardware keyboard takes some getting used to, but once you're there you won't want to go back! I'd highly recommend Swype v3.19.20.20.6343 as an alternative text input method.
3) The HD2 is very, very fast at finding and locking onto satellites. It also downloads a satellite database when needed which means locking on takes seconds. I can even usually get a fix indoors quite easily, something none of my many GPS devices can't do.
4) You're looking at charging every night, depending on use. Obviously battery life isn't a strong point of a phone this powerful, but there are various ways to maximise battery life when you need to. I've settled for buying a spare battery ($4 from Dealextreme) and a charger which charges the spare battery + the phone (£3 on ebay).
Don't forget Quidco (www.quidco.com) if you're signing up to Virgin, currently £30 cashback to be had! http://www.quidco.com/virgin-mobile/
Good luck!

I have two Kaisers.
I also have a Rhodium.
I now have an HD2.
HD2 screen is enough reason to upgrade for me.
Best HTC phone I have had.
