Internet through DUN speed question - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

First off
thank you to everyone that posts answers, help, and roms here. Using this site I was able to unlock and put a new rom on my 8125. I am still having some problems I was hoping an upgrade would have helped with. I have spent many hours reading on how to fix my problem and have not found it yet... so I ask here..
I don't have a data plan and will not get one..( I am cheap). I have t-mobile with my favs so I made my ISP's phone number on of my favs... so I can stay on line as long as I want at no charge...This workes great after I read here how to set it up.... My problem is speed... I tested it on a site and got only
6k for the test. I was hoping I could get at least 14.4 out of the modem. Is there some please to adjust the baud rate or something... The line I am calling can go 56k... any help??
Thanks

life sucks when you go cheap.
You have no way of increasing the speed i am afraid. You might get a better speed at 3am but that is about it. GPRS is slooow, that is why you need a 3g phone and the little old wizard isn't one thats why i have a hermes

How long have you been with t-mobile?
At my last upgrade (last year) they gave my a 25% line rental discount and threw in free web n walk access for free, which is gprs.
If your due an upgrade, get a phone with hdspa in the phone and get the web n walk for free, then what you can do is go into your account via t-mobile website then you can upgrade to web n walk plus for about an extra 5 a month (uk)
Thats the cheapest way i know of doing it.

I have been T-mobile for 4 years, I have 1000 shared minutes, with 5 lines including texting, plus my favs for each line for everything it's $99 a month. I talked to them 2 weeks ago and they told me I better hold on to this deal because anything else will cost me more per month... I am happy with everything, but I use the 8125 to check email, weather, and a few other things while away from home. I have my ISP's dial up account as a fav so I can use it all I want at no charge with no minutes taken up... I just wanted faster access.. but as the last post said... cheap you get slow...
Thanks for the info though...

Take what is given and steal the rest...

I forgot to say .have you tried upgrading the radio on the wizard. If you can find one that increases reception the internet connection speed will also increase.

Orange SPV M3100 and new user :)

hi all,
Just upgraded to an Orange SPV M3100, and i love it, got rid of my Axim X30 and my K800i so i now have an all in one device
Been playing with it to lol, upgraded to the latest rom provided by HTC and its loads faster than the Orange bumph that comes with it/on it.
Also setup gprs/3G on it so i got full wireless support, just got of the phone to orange customer services regarding data tariffs, they put me on the 10mb OW access and the Evening and weekend unlimited internet for free for 2 months to try, after 2 months its £5 per month
so this phone is costing me £50 pm with 550min/anytime, 30mins video calling, unlimited SMS, 10MB OW access and unlimited eves and weekends on the internet.
Is this a fair price to be paying? (be honest lol i wont bite)
ta muchly
Jon
Hi, i'm thincking of ugrading my M3100 to the latest HTC ROM (HTC English QTEK_001 1.35.255.2 11/14/06) is this the one you used. Also did your bootloader change to 1.09?
any help would be greatly appreciated
Hi Jonr
I also have an SPVM3100 for £30 p/m. For that I get 200 mins Xnet + 100 mins landlines, 75 txts, 30mins video and unlimited internet in eves and weekends. (horses for courses). But what is 10MB OW ?
Also, what do you mean by setup GPRS/3G. Isnt it already setup, or are you saying that after upgrading the ROM you had to set it up ?
Regards
Asif
I was wondering how I did with orange- just changed tariff- had the nokia N80 but wasnt really impressed so after 4 months orange did a free upgrade and had the m3100, paying 40 quid pm on the panther £45 tariff and an extra 2000 xnet mins. So total of 2900 xnet mins, 200 txts and free insurance. Only thing is its 18 month contract tho.
Orange data
Baiscally Orange don't really do 'data' when you compare to T mobile. I know they have this evening and weekend unlimited thing but as I said - put that next to web n Walk and see how much Xmas Cheer you feel towards Orange.
I was extremely lucky, in that in the summer they sort of launched/ tried a package called Orange World Unlimited, which is basically a direct type of match for WnW. I get unlimited (well almost) data all day for £8pcm. This was not advertised, and allegedly only applied to Panther tariffs, and had to be signed up before 1 September. Having said that, there have been sporadic reports of others getting it outside of these terms. Lots of reports of others being turned down as well of course. If I had T mobile reception at home , I would have gone with them though, as lets face it, you don't really buy a hermes if you only want to use it as phone - its kinda pointless without a good data package. There are lots of long threads about all this over on the modaco forums.
Hopefully with 3 now getting in on the data deals, the others will be forced to follow soon, but Orange just seem to be set against encouraging data use on their devices. (lets face it, if you have one of these devices, you are also likely to have a wifi network at home, and so off peak are you really gonna use the phones conenction versus the faster wifi? OK if you are out and about a lot, but in general I use the data options on the commute or when it picks up emails during the day.)
Just my thoughts.

Will XDA Exec work with tmobile web n walk? tmobile say it wont..

Hi All,
I've just been on to tmobile about getting one of there unlimited internet access jobbies for £15/m.. all sounded great then I mentioned it was an o2 xda handset I was planning on using and they informed me that it wouldn't work.. I said well I'm sure I could just flash the mda rom onto it and it would run and they replied with "Voice and texts will work fine but the internet access will definately not work on a htc handset that that originated from o2" Then she said something about the internet settings are not compatible between the two phones..
Surely this is incorrect??
If anyone can shed any light on this please do! (or if you know of any better deals!)
mate it will work if you enable the tmob rom but i doubt it can work as a 02 for texts and calls & as tmob for web,
maybe your answer is flash rom and twin sim holder so you can flip between the two
as long as the Exec is (sim) unlocked, no problem. In fact, I'm using exactly that setup, with the current O2 ROM. You just need to change the GPRS/UMTS settings to
Access Point: general.t-mobile.uk
and iirc, username, password and domain all blank. If you have any problems, PM me or post here.

My Uni is o2 Exec too, now with T-Mob sim and working on Web'n'Walk fine.
I belive that if your o2 Exec was baught from o2 on line then it arrived unlocked (as mine did); if bought from high street o2, it came sim locked.
Mav
I've had three online (all o2 online business shop), all unlocked. Also, the early high street-bought units were, iirc, unlocked too.
Hmm .. Uh Oh.. Is there anyway to check? I don't have another sim card I can try in it.. Mine was high street bought but it was one of the early ones (or so I believe.. Jan 2006).
Ignore that last post, just done some searching and spotted the unlock tool created by buzz and the team.. great work guys
Is T-Mobile really offering unlimited internet for the total sum of £15 per month? I've had a look on their website and I can't find this offer! Could someone post the link for this offer, sounds too good to be true!
I'm also quite sure I could have been totally oblivious to this offer, so apologies for asking a very obvious question!
Hi there! this offer isn't on there site. I called them and asked what they could do for me ..
sim card only
monthly contract rather than yearly (only tied to 1month each time)
unlimited data (fair use of 3gb/month)
50mins anytime
not bad eh!

I have an o2 xda exec which I bought on Ebay slightly second hand and I am using it on tmobile with a prepay tarrif. All I needed to do was put in the correct settings which I got from here
http://www.manuals.t-mobile.co.uk/start.asp?manual=1217
Just go to the GPRS 3g topic in the 'choose subject box' and they take you through it step by step.
On the prepay tarrif, I get charged a pound for any day when I connect, but there is supposedly no limit during that day. It works great, but maybe I'd be better off at a £15 month tarrif if that's available.
By the way, can I just let people know of this link to google search which reformats all pages for the PDA. It makes a very useful portal:
www.google.com/xhtml
If you don't want to search, but want the pages reformatted for your pda try this one which also works pretty well.
www.google.com/gwt/n?q=
The above url will present you with a box to enter the url you want to visit. After that, all pages will be formatted without frames and made suitable for your screen.

Thanks for your reply! Sounds like a great deal! What number did you ring, and any special tricks for getting them to offer you that deal?
Cheers,
No tricks to get it matey just call them on the number on the website. Cant remember what the number is now and the paper I wrote it on is on my desk in the office. Just ask for the following:
Sim Only, Web and walk unlimited internet tarrif thingy. Make sure they dont try and tie you to a 12 month contract as this is a sim only deal with NO PHONE and thats why its so cheap. Best thing about the deal is that its month to month.. so if you decide you don't want it anymore or they change the terms and conditions you can cancel with no 12 month contract to pay off

Cheers for the info evilv! that will come in handy.. especially the google web reform jobby!
Just to add to this lot, I tried a T Mobile PAYG sim in my O2 XDA-Exec and it works fine connecting to the net with full UMTS speed, max cost per day is £1 capped according to the chaps card we were messing with.
I have also used a contract T Mobile card in the device and simply works - No Sim Lock on the O2 XDA-Exec, so no messing around put the card in, configure the access names etc and away you go - Mike
Cheers mike, can't to get the tmobile simcard now!.. I'll actually have a use for my universal atlast!
o2 beats even that: unlimited data £10/month bolt on for pay monthly
not sure of the fair use limit. see my reply in thread 'best internet plan' or something like that for more details

That's new!
Only thing is, it'd be more expensive than WnW.
I'm on the £15 a month tariff too - it's actually £7.50 a month, minimum term of a month (not a year!) for 50 minutes each month, with the £7.50 unlimited data WnW add-on.
I use my data all the time and have never been pulled - Push Email, constant RSS feed updating, decent amount of pics on downloads, radio streaming, msn messenging, no limits for me.
you just need to request the sim only 30 day contract (can cancel anytime just give 30 day notice) which is £7.50 a month, then simply ass web n walk £7.50 a month, job done! completley normal tarriff no scams or deals

O2 or T-mobile

Apologies, I was not sure where to post this.
I am and have been on o2 for years, however the data tariffs are pretty much in the stone age for pricing, I have seen T-mobiles web n talk deals and they look good. Can anyone advise if I take the plunge and let my o2 contract expire (this month) will I be happy with t-mobile?
I am in the UK for your information, cheers.
Oh and why the different web n talk options, only one allowing VOIP, what is restricting it?
Same situation here, HSDPA access restricted to business only, and they charge ALOT for any downloading at all!!
T-mob does look good however i would only require a SIM only tarriff.....from what ive seen on the site they only offer the good web-n-walk tarrifs with a handset bundled in (for a price obviously)

O2 used to be great when I enjoyed free access for a year, since then they've stayed at £2.35 per MB. Not only that but as an online customer no bundles supported (still no where near t-mobiles pricing).
T-Mobile have been pretty good, I have a flext 30+ Web and Walk standard, works out at around £35 per month.
Its not actually unlimited internet I think it works out to something around 1gb per month but with the amount you download with normal active sync e-mail and web browsing I havent hit it yet so it (and the fair use policy just says if you exceed 1gb per month they will ask you to cut down a bit, with more restrictions each time you break the 1Gb limit) Basically its not designed for peer to peer, streaming or skype.
The pro version isnt that much more expensive though.

Is it possible to migrate across to T-Mobile web-n-walk without having to buy a handset?
Not entirely sure about that one, I've been with t-mob since they were one2one.
You can pac code your number across so most likely you could go to W+W without buying a handset....
strange t-mobile
whats strange about t-mobile uk is that, although they say 1gb limit, ive been using my w&w plan since april 06 and have almost consistently exceeded the limits, in the last few months according to my data monitor on the nokia 6680 ive exceeded 10 gigs a month. One of the call centers isnt too far from my town and the area i live in has very few serious w&w users or so i believe.. ive got good HSPDA reception in my area and plan to do some testing with my phones.. will post results..
I moved from O2 to T-Mobile for the exact same reason... I simply couldn't justify the rip-off data charges!
Since moving to T-Mobile I can honestly say I don't regret making the move... their service is as good or better than O2 and having web n walk is absolute bliss
I'm on the basic web n walk package, but as far as I know there is nothing preventing you using your mobile as a modem for a laptop and I'm sure I've read posts from other users saying you can still make internet calls (skype) on the basic package??? - the only thing the saleman told me is they do monitor activities and if they detect another IP address (from a computer I would guess) or any voice/video streaming, there's a chance I could be billed for it

Roaming charges?
I've been thinking to switch to WnW but have been unable to fing the roaming data costs. That is... i use it to sync to exchange while abroad (mostly europe).
Can't find the costs on the t-mob site
t-mobile DATA costs
3G (where available) £7.50 per Mb
This is the data charge anywhere outside the UK. I wen't to India sent two emails with picture attachments. Got bill, ended up sending 4mb which came to about 30 quid. It's a shame they don't have a better deal for people on Web n walk. BTW, i am on web n walk plus, the middle package, £12.50 a month. 3 gb limit and when connected to my laptop avg DL speed is 130.0kbs
Link for roming costs anyway, http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/personal/our-services/going-abroad/details-by-country.do

I bought a Universal on Ebay that had been on O2 and I stuck in a tmobile pay as you go sim card. Once I'd put in the server details (for which there is a help page on the tmobile site) it works great. I don't do a lot of data normally, but when I do, I get charged a flat rate of £1 for that day. I used it abroad to get email in Switzerland and France. It worked right off the plane with no fiddling at all.

I did the same for an O2 XDA IIs - originally I just used it as a phone (on O2 pay-as-you-go) and PDA, but recently needed Web access. Popped into a mobile phone shop, pick up a brochure of tarrifs saw the O2 one, picked myself up off the floor and bought a T-Mobile pay-as-you-go SIM. T-Mobile very helpful in setting up the web access over the phone (they called me back on a different mobile)

I only got a sim Flex20 and whenever like i subscribe to web&walk through internet account as well opt out by telling 1 month notice.... or you can use pay as you go sim card... £1 a day and unlimited internet even VOIP.... i often use it for skype and got excellent result, i taked hours and never got problem... cheers

T-Mobile pricing mistake

I've just been to my local T-Mobile UK shop to have a look at the Ameo before buying it. I was asking about the prices and the assistant (I think he must have been the manager) showed me the printed price list for the various tariffs. The one that stuck out was Flext 35+ (I think - it was £47.50 pm) with the cost of the handset at £119. It was completely at odds with the prices on the other plans - ie the ones costing more per month were much more expensive. The guy said it was probably a typo but he would put it through as that and override it if necessary. It was and it should have been £309. As you can imagine I was well pleased and I bought it on the spot!
I won't say which T-Mobile shop as I don't want to get him into trouble but if you are interested I think it would be worth going down to your local shop and see what they could do...
thats the same deal i got it for online. they obviously made a mistake cos they changed it online two days later!
still, I'm not complaining!
God damn it, I could have saved myself £200!!! Well done for baggin the bargin though!
I got mine from T-mobile online, I paid £240 for the phone but im only paying £37.50 for the FlexT35 + web and walk for the entire life of the contract (min 18 months)
Yeah i got mine cheep too on same deal had to override system when putting it thru and i just kept my moth shut was a bargain now i just want WM6....

Hi
have a look at this !!!!
T-Mobile Zakelijk 1 Jaar 2 Jaar
Optimaal 2x € 299.00 € 25.00
(www.smartphonestunts.nl)
This is a dutch website (at which I bought my universal)
This is with a so-called business plan, which is 2x dataplan. at 12,50 each per month.
so 12months x12,50 x 2 x 2years + 25 phone = 625,- euro for a brand new Athena
and with a nice spread "payment" plan.
nice huh. ?
greetings,
Wout
ps. who can not afford 25euro per month ?

To be honest there's very little in it. you save £5 a month over 18 months. you save £90 on the contract, i saved £120 on the purchase price. By my crappy maths, that means I still save £30 less over all than you. but then, I didn't have £240 to spend on the phone so I am happy. and I certainly couldn't afford the £700-750 that places are charging for the HTC branded one. So for me, this was a great deal.
I treat contracts like H.P. I cant get credit, but i can get phone contracts, so i simply use them to spread the cost.
plus if I remember right, you dont get HSDPA on web and walk standard. unless you find a gormless t-mobile drone to add it for you without upping you to pro which is what came with this price mistake.
If this thing had a dvd drive and could rip dvd's, my PC would be in the freeads quicker than you could say 'HTC'!
In the end, for me it was a great deal cos otherwise i wouldn't have been able to get the thing. maybe you earn more than I do and have more disposable income and can pay more for the initial payment, and so it doesn't strike you as such an amazing a good deal. But to me and the others who may not have been able to afford one without this screw up on the initial price, its f'ing superb!!
err... i got the 119 price as well but had to pay a higher rate for the web n walk pro so that i could use the phone as a modem. thd said they could tell the difference- was i duped???
i guess they could tell if i was doing voip due to port number and i do get a higher d/l limit
You werent "duped" if they sold the service for the use you stated.
Of course that doesnt mean a lots of people dont use it as a modem anyway without telling T-Mobile, but that is T-Mobile getting 'duped' really.
It sucks that T-Mobile price this way, but considering the data plans from everybody else, count yourself lucky.
I just wish T-Mob had usable signal and working voice. My wife now refuses to phone me on this number because of the 95% failure rate of calls.

are you sure about that? I recently change from Vodafone to T-mobile, and two thing i am sure is T-mobile phone signal is much better then Vodafone (at least in London), and their internet works really well, you will never want to use Athena with Vodafone.....!
Vodafone must REALLY suck then, because I normally get 1 or maybe 2 bars signal on UMTS, with frequent dropping to GPRS when out and about. (Central London).
When i visit family outside of London I am forced onto GPRS only and sometimes lose signal completely.
The quality of the internet isnt really an issue, it works. Its quite good for what you pay, but the voice service on T-Mobile is terrible.
I had people complaining my phone was never on, when it always is. So I did an experiment, I had my phone on, with full signal. The person STOOD NEXT TO ME tried to call me on speakerphone, and we both heard a failed call claiming my phone was not available.
Often the call completes, but nobody can hear anything or only one-way voice or it just cuts off for no reason.
Outgoing calls often fail for no reason, just drop after dialing as if there is no network when there is.
I dont consider this to be good by any stretch of imagination, if your telling me Vodafone is worse, we are all in trouble. At least Orange are joinging the "all you can eat" data bandwagon soon! Ill be swapping back to them as soon as my T-Mob contract is nearly up.

btw, you haven't activate the always on Internet tweak right? i think your experience is very strange and not normal, i have lots of T-mobile friends, and they don't report such an issue, is it possible by your setting?
And also, i don't use GPRS at all, i force my device to only connect to 3G network, and i still get good signal all the time.
It is a good deal i got the web and walk + tariff so i can use my ameo as a modem at no extra cost with unlimited usage so if i wana do some serious browsing or on line gaming on my laptop whilst on way to work this price plan is great i was with o2 for about 7 years previous i thought they were great and always had a nice new xda device to try after my contract expired but t mobile is so much better i use my athena way more than any other because of the unlimited internet and i also get text reminders to let me know how many inclusive flext minutes/texts i have at least once a week im as happy as pie with my tarrif and price of phone as i managed to sell a crap old Nokia N80 on ebay to cover the cost so i didnt even feel the purchase,,
This just shows how all things are subjective... spzero likes the flext reminder messages, they just really annoy me and are now disabled.
I think O2 were much better than TMob, i would have stayed with them if it wasnt for the flat rate data from web&walk.
I have lots of friends on TMob too and they say its crap for them too. I have tried different phones and same problems so its not settings. There is no setting to make incoming calls fail before they get to my phone! I had a TMob contract many years back and it was total rubbish then. I thought by now it would have been better, but I was wrong.
If I force UMTS only, i would lose all signal often. Maybe it works fine where you live, but for me it doesnt.
They just dont have the coverage. If they did there would be no need for a postcode checker on the site to make sure they cover your area. All other networks just assume everywhere is covered except TMob.
I have TMob only because of Web&Walk. When other networks get better data plans ill move, preferably to O2, but maybe to Orange.
My main hate for TMob is the customer (dis)service. I wont list the whole story here, but lets just say they have treated me like crap on many occations.

I personally found O2 customer service somewhere beneath awful. Anyway, that aside, as I understand it O2 will be announcing new and more competitive data plans shortly.
I live in London, and have never had a problem with T-mobiles service and coverage.
The customer service is another matter....
At least their latest cockup benefits me instead of them, the £325 I paid upfront via credit card for the Ameo has since been credited to my account, and two months later, after 2 bills, I am still around £260 in credit.
Here's hoping they won't spot their error...

UK Price reduction

T-Mo UK now has the G1 free on a £30/m 18m contract. You get an 8GB memory card and WnW Plus (which gives you access to Wifi hotspots as well as "unlimited" 3G).
Quite tempted, but read so many so-so reviews of the hardware.
I just got mine on an upgrade. But i only got a 2gb card. No biggy. IMO the phone is great.
Its got a 528mhz processor
192mb ram
256mb rom
3mp camera
Bluetooth
wifi
gps
compas
accelerometer
Comes with a wired headset (usb connection, u can get a usb to 3.5mm adapter if you want to use a better headphones)
Battery life is ok. If your a heavy user of internet its going to drain the battery quick. Ive been charging twice a day when i use it alot. You can get a higher capacity battery aswell. Though its possible theres still a few bugs thats causing battery loss.
Dont have everything on all the time.
Its permenantly connected to the internet. Browsing speed is respectable and the browser is nice.
The hardware is great. We just need software to go with it. At the moment it only supports bluetooth headset. But that will change with new updates.
No virtual keyboard, but again thats coming aswell.
Gmail is great on it.
Text messaging works, though mms doesnt support videos and i dont think you can save to SD yet.
Theres still alot of support to add yet. pdf word etc
If your willing to put up with some missing features then its a great phone.
When you get it, its probably be on rc7. Youll get a notification of a new update. If you want to keep root access dont install it. rc8 update fixes the root access and isnt reversible at the moment.
If you no what your doing with linux terminal commands, id install the modified rc8 update that keeps root access, its explained in the development thread.

Do you know what minutes and messages you get on that?
I'm on the £40 one which allows you to spend £250 a month but i'll probably never use that so going down a level might be good for me...

from what I've been told, you can't go down the price plan till you come to upgrade so you're stuck on what you've got unfortunatly.
the £30/month is either ther combi 25 + web'n'walk plus(£25/month + £5 for the web'n'walk. 300mins, 600texts) or the flext 30 + free web'n'walk plus(£30/month, £140 to spend a month). I tempted to get the flext 30 but also got my eye on the touch hd so not fully decided yet.
Ive just picked up the £30 a month combi plan from carphone warehouse. Got a 2gb memory card with it, not fussed about that. Really pleased with the phone so far, shame I was so hasty about upgrading. No root access for now .

No mate because of the way it would have to be set up on the account the features arent compatible
Its only a tenner for unlimited hotspot access which you can use on BTOZ's too.
10 a month? or a one off payment? i doubt i would use it very often and i have 3g. cant say it would be worth 10 a month but it would be nice on occasion.

Yeah 10 a month, would be good if you were in starbucks a lot
yeah exactly. with the speed of 3g now i guess the main benefit would be saving on usage allowence.
still shame its not included, kind of annoying as i had assumed it had (my fault obv).

Dont worry about your data becoz if your in the UK (which i assume u are) then you dont have a data allowance, you have whats called a Fair use policy (or FUP) basiclly this means that you will never be charged for data with the WnW Plus feature, the only thing that may happen is if you go over your 3Gig FUP for 3 months in a row you will get a letter sent to u asking to reduce your usage and if you still go over it your speeds will be reduced to 64kbps for 2-4 weeks.
If you then go over it once more (were now up to 6/7 months in a row!!) it will be permanently reduced to 64 kbps or you can upgrade to the max version (about 20 quid per month extra) which gives a 10Gig FUP.
All i'm really saying is dont worry about it !! Surf away. (Untill you recieve a letter )
It actually isn't £30pm. Its £35pm. that's because the WnW if £5pm extra and you NEED it as the phone is an internet phone. Mines on that deal for 700 mins and unlimited txts, unlimited browsing.

the £30/month plans are the combi 25(£25/month + 5 for the w'n'p plus, 300mins, 600text(300texts if bought in store)) & the flext 30(£30/month + free w'n'w plus, £140 allowance to spend on mins, texts etc).
chris are you sure you can't use the t-mobile hotspots for free? the guy at my local store told me that you could(using the wifi on the g1, obv not on a laptop, ipod touch or other wifi capable device).

I don't have a g1 yet(not fully decided yet, also looking at the touch hd), but wanted to check if the t-mobiles hotspots are included with the g1 plan.
looking on the forums on t-mobile.com(usa site)link if you download this hotspot app you can connect to the hotspot(tho reading that thread it seemed hit & miss, i.e. some people were able to others not able to), just wondered if there was a similar thing for the uk. I don't really travel much so its not really a big deal for me(don't think I'll be using up the 3gb fup anyway) but would have been nice to have.
if I was to put the sim into another non-g1 phone(be it t-mobile or sim-free), what is the fup on the internet in that case(1gb or still 3gb)? also will there be any problems making calls, texting etc? I currently don't have a job but if I was to start I might be putting the sim into another phone as I wouldn't want to loose the g1(places like sainsburys, toys r us don't like you to keep your phone on you during work and want you to leave it in the staff room).

No T-Mob UK doesnt have anything like that mate
But you can use the sim in another fone and use the web free of charge as its your sim that has the feature on it - not specific to the fone
Well they don't make it very easy to find out what the difference is between web'n'walk, web'n'walk Plus and web'n'walk MAX, but on the info about hotspots it says:
WiFi HotSpot included in Mobile Broadband Plans
New customers that sign up to web'n'walk Max, Plus, or Plus Daily* can now enjoy WiFi access in any of our HotSpots across the UK. So on top of 3G coverage across the country, unlimited WiFi Hotspots are included in the price - in places where you need WiFi the most, such as airports, hotels and Starbucks.
http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/services/mobile-internet/on-your-laptop/free-wifi/
This was what I'd always understood about the Plus option- that it sanctions tethering and let's you use hotspots.
My current contract ends next month, and since it doesn't look like the UK is getting the Vario IV, I might just go for one of these.
And the T-Mobile 3G coverage is tremendous where I live, on my Vario II whenever I connect for data I get a nice little H symbol and a fast download speed, strangely, the coverage in Newcastle (upon Tyne, the real Newcastle!) the connection can be a bit hit and miss

The standard plus option doesn't but because your getting the g1 plus option for a fiver (or free on flext) it isn't included as it is a promo !
