Wait a minute. Does the Pharos have a flush screen? - P3470 General

I see descriptions that say "flush QVGA screen" but all the pics seem to look recessed. This is a major buying factor for me. Please let me know.

looks like lies to me. i don't personally have a pharos but it definitely seems to have a recess

what is "flush"

flat like the touch phones.

right. so the Pharos doesn't have one. It has an edge around the screen.
look here:
http://www.zmetech.com/mobile-phones/htc-p3470-cod-name-pharos-in-photos/

I can confirm that the screen is NOT flush with the frame.

X1 or touch hd

hello, im new to xda and i need a new phone asap. i cant decide between these 2 phones. i dont need a keyboard but would really like one and i dont need a big screen but it needs to be big enough to watch movies on, do word docs and powerpoints. anyone who has the x1, is the screen small for you? if you had to choose one of these phones and u had the money, which one would you get?
Touch HD: Big screen, accelerometer
Xperia: Hardware keyboard
I have both, and my vote goes to Touch HD. Mostly because of the screen size (big, but not too big. And it's finger friendly!).
The hardware keyboard on X1 is really nice however. So if you type often, go for the X1.
Everyones taste is different, so I recommend going to the closest retail store and check em both out
i might as well wait for the touch pro 2, only .2 of an inch smaller than the hd but also has a keyboard. also has a tilting screen and it looks like its made of metal.

do you know if its made of metal or plastic?
This has been discussed before, but more than a million words, better take a look at the POLL (link on my signature)

Do other users have a big banner in their signature asking for people to vote for their device?
my vote goes for the X1, better battery, better support (here in Sweden) hardware keyboard (very needed) and flashlight (better camera) I don't watch movies on my phones, but yes it looks good when watching with the Xperia screen, otherwise I use my PSP or my HP TX1020 (12") if I really need to watch movies when on a trip or something
imo the touch hd only have one advantage and it's the screen, I don't see the accelerometer like a "big" thing...

Gap in screen - build quality

Just got the Hero today. I noticed there is a slight gap where the screen meets the casing. It just about doesn't meet the top, infact I can just about see a component through it. Is yours like that?
Same here.. I can see a bronze looking component to the right of the speaker vent
thats it! Maybe there are all like that. Bit worried its going to be a problem with dust in the screen. Bit naff for a 400 quid phone. Great otherwise. Worth sending back for a replacement? what do you think?
The one I had seemed to have a 'dimple' by the power symbol. As if dust had got under the final finish, another iffy build issue methinks.
Are all yours Orange network branded ones? I've got the white unlocked one and its absolutly fine.
Could somebody post some pictures of these gaps? That's very concerning
A portion of the Hero's on Orange do have that gap, I've noticed. Thanks for making this topic, it will help if it happens again. As it's a customer affecting issue which will cause returns.
Thanks Acelister,
Not seen a post of yours since the Touch HD release
Mine has that gap at the top where the screen meets the casing - its not bothered me until now and the pocket dust is building up. I'll check the white hero tomorrow and see the difference, if so different I will return the device as I am still within the 7 days as I received my device last wednesday.
I'll post an image tomorrow when back in the office.
Noticed it on my T-Mobile one on day one, yesterday. Massive bit of dust stuck in the gap. Managed to get it out, but when you think that most cases are gonna be less effective cos of the chin, this could be a big deal :-(
I think mine will be getting 7'dayed.
The gap ain't the only reason
Kev
What are the other reasons?
Remember its 7 Working days excluding the day of delivery don't let them tell you otherwise as some try it on
i cant see a gap anywhere ...lol where am i supposed to be looking ....mines on orange

Seriously, between the HTC logo and the ear piece
Mine doesn't have a gap any larger at the top than any of the other edges.
I'm using a black T-Mobile Hero - given the "custom" colours, it makes me wonder if there is an issue here with specific colours.

Dave

Same here....the gap seems equal on all sides. Some pictures would be helpful to see what it looks like.
Mines is the graphite version from Orange.

You have a good one. When you look at the handset straight-on, you can see a gap that isn't fully filled with the rubber stuff. In that you can see two or three copper squares. I thought it was maybe just with the Graphite version, but if it's on the White version too, then it's obviously a build issue. The tolerances must be set wrong on the machines.

Guess I am lucky
Mind you, if I look EXTREMELY closely at the rubber gap on the top part of the screen, I can just about see some copper part shine in the light on the left. But the gap is extremely small and you have to really look for it to reflect the light. The phones with the gap probably do have tolerance issues on the machines since some have it and some don't.

Interesting - HD2 might not be capacitive after all

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=576052
It's unlikely that HTC has completely lied in the specs, and the specs say that the screen is capacitive. However, it is like HTC to stretch the truth.
It is exceedingly unlikely that it's resistive. Resistive screens require pressure to be used - and we already know that the HD2's front is coated in glass. You can't use a resistive screen with hard glass.
As mentioned many times, the specs & hands on reviews say that the screen is capacitive! Soon we shall have the proof...

that thread sounds kinda disappointed if it is true, but I really hope it is exactly the same capacitive type of screen like iPhone and iPod Touch! The reason is, the feel between the two are really different. I personally find that resistive screen has a cheap feeling to me as it has a soft thin layer on top with visible dots, and the gap between the layer can feel very easily. However, true capacitive screen feels like it is entirely glass top, it is very solid and handling the device with the screen is a joy. Just a tiny touch of the screen will have instant response from capacity screen, so, I personally prefer iPhone capacitive screen, and I really hope this is not true!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then you have never seen true capacitive screens. They have a layer of conductive wires just behind the glass top. On the 40 inch capacitive screen I use, you can clearly see them even at maximum brightness.
I've seen the dots on blackberry storm too, I've got Pre and once i've notice too, but both of the screen made of hard glass and very bright.
They both are capacitive screens.

Whatever the screen is, I just need it to be glove-compatible, just like the Omnia, Omnia 2, Blackstone but UNLIKE iPod Touch (which i have), and iPhone. How do you communicate in winter with a full touch screen, and with wm 6.5.1 which might not allow answering with the hard "answer" button? My Omnia 2 is out of order: the antenna is broken(?) anyway i don't have any network reception. When it comes back from servicing in 2-3 weeks, I just sell it and buy a HD2.

it's never going to be 'glove compatible' you need to touch the screen with a conductive item..ie your hand, metal stylus etc. a glove will not work

Thnaks for the answer. what a pity: i think the blackstone with 1 Ghz Snapdragon is the best alternative, or the Omnia 2 and its 800 Mhz cpu with a more comprehensive GUI and a bigger screen...

even if it is true, but it is 4.3" vs 40", it is way too far to compare and if the 4.3" can ever notice the wires? At least iPhone look like just one whole piece of solid glass touch screen, and that is what I prefer

HD2 pixels showing

Ok I just bought my HD2 from T-mobile like maybe an hour ago I was lucky that my friend works at the store and they got some in stock. Lucky me right? Well I just wanted to know if this is normal. I can see pixels and dots on the screen in sunlight and if the phone is tilted at a certain angle along with what looks like a crash hatch pattern of lines that also look like pixels. I called support to see if this was a problem they said no. The t-mobile model phone also did this. Is this normal and what is it attributed to? Thanks.
Yeah same here i dont believe its dead pixies as it follows a straight line and is organized. I think its the screen itself..Anyone can confirm this?
I read some where that it's for the capacitive screen to operate correctly and the iphone has this in certain spots of the phone. I guess it's normal unless someone else wants to let us know if we are freaking out or not?
it is normal and in all hd2 versions ,it is the capastive sensors

Are some people paranoid or is it just me. Obviously they are not dead pixels. Or else you would be able to tell when the screen was lit up. My wing had the dots. I believe it was for the touchscreen the crosshatch pattern is the capasative screen
100% it's the capacitive touch sensors...
paranoia abound in this thread. i think the dots looks cool. especially when they sparkle while the screen is off. never shows up with any indoor light so it doesn't bother me while inside.

A question for a new LCD Display

Hi everybody.
I just broke my phone yesterday and I am looking for some nice quality brand new LCD Display for Essential.
Is anyone here with a screen that has already been changed? I want to know does the new screen provide the same resolution size like is normal for our Display ( I mean 1312x2560ppi) or it is less?
CPU-Z is a good program to see that.
Thanks.

Based on my experience. The post has a link to my review of the display I bought on Amazon. Yes, it has the proper resolution, and works just as well as the original.
As always, YMMV...

Frankly, no idea, but I think yes... I don't see a lot of prints/smudges on the screen, it stays very clean. Feels very smooth to the touch - better feeling than the screen on my SGS7.
Also don't know if it's real Gorilla Glass (ppl on Amazon were asking). So far, not a single scratch.

Looks like it is oleophobic... The water drop doesn't spread on the glass, and when I tilt the phone and shake it a bit, the drop rolls on the screen intact, without leaving a trail.
