Gps Update? - Shift General

http://jkkmobile.blogspot.com/2008/06/htc-shift-x9501-to-get-gps-upgrade.html
It is real?

seems pretty real to me!
This doesn't look like a hoax. This looks genuine.
Too bad, shift project still hasn't released the ROM with GPS working,
(which is availble for some time now POF has it..)
and now we will get an update from HTC themselves...maybe...maybe they want us to buy a new device !
Anyway, we will have GPS, anytime soon !

msn72xx gps battery drain
i hope htc worked hard on this upgrade, 'cause its devices with gps activated in the msn 7200 ship have very poor batery life.
i m very happy htc did not enable the gps in the shift,
i have close to 11 hours battery life with hsdpa, screen and 128k streaming turned on.

I-mate PDA2 Short battery life issue.

i have just purchased imate pda2(equivilent to O2 xdaIIi) and with a very minmum use after the full charge all the battery drains in just 8 hours ..Is this the normal battery life or its the fault of battery?
ROM version=1.11.00 WWE
ROM date 01/27/05
Radio Version=1.02.00
Protocol Version=1337.42
ExtROM version =1.11.144 WWE
Battery is PH17C 3.7VDC 1300mAH
I am confused about ROM size my hadware info shows..RAM 128mb Flash size 64mb....
does flash size means ROM?
but there is written 128mb ROM on booklets but it shows 64mb why>?
kindly help
I just recently bought a PDA2 as well, and experienced the same battery life problem. after running it down to less than 10% battery, then charging it back up to 100% a few times tho, the battery life appears to have strengthened a bit.
although i had a relapse last night, it was on 34% battery, i turned on flight mode, and then put it into standby mode. i woke up 7 hours later to find it on 9% battery! on my old XDA II, it would lose maybe 1% battery overnight with flight mode on. I'm going to keep testing this though.
as for the rom, as far as i know, rom = flash. the pda2's only have 64mb of rom or flash, whereas the xda IIi's have 128mb. as far as i can tell, this is the only hardware difference between the two devices.
hmm.. i just checked out the PDA2 website, and you're right, it says 128mb of rom. i've read elsewhere that it was only 64mb of rom tho, and thats what it says in my device information page as well... and i could have sworn that the above page used to say 64mb of rom..... very strange

The perils of assuming the same radio stack works correctly across the globe with all operators!
Case in point - Xda II 1.66 rom worked brilliantly in UK, and sucked the battery dead in 8 hours in Germany. Why? because the german network had different settings for paging the handset
I'd say you've got a valid case to:
- Tell Imate to f*cking fix the problem
- Downgrade the Radio stack to another build and see what happens
'scuse me for butting in...
Guys
I've been having really big problems with my battery too on my XDAIIi. You might care to look at the log I kept of the battery over the course of a day here

well i had flight mode ON, which means the aerial is turned off.. so i don't really see how the operator settings will affect it...?
i checked how i went last night, again turning the phone off (flight mode on), and sleeping for about 8 hours. my battery life had only dropped 3% which is much better, it went from 81% to 78%.
its an interesting thought about the paging settings though, when i finally sort out my login to the i-mate forums, i may have a look around for that.
stevep, yes i remember reading your thread a few days ago.. unfortunately it doesn't seem like you came across any sort of solution..
battery XDAIIi
Hi all
You're right, there was no solution. I had the device replaced three times and the battery twice. I can conclude that it's definitley a feature of the device. I don't what's draining it (nor do o2). I had the problem escalated at o2 and although they were very helpful, they didn't really come up wiuth a solution, which is disappointing! My main issue was mostly about how long it took for o2 to admit it's a problem. The normal 'change this', 'hard reset', deinstal/reinstal everythig' etc etc just seemed to be their way of 'getting off the hook' (sorry o2) and concluding that it must be something that I've installed on the device
I was getting to the point of thinking about reporting it tomTradining Standards here in the UK because 8 hours or less (to me) doesn't make it 'fit for purpose'...but in the end I didn't because it felt that it wasn't a strong enough case to argue. Now I just carry a spare charged up battery
Steve
i work an office job, so i have mine cradled most of the day, but the weekends is where it gets tested. we'll see how it goes this weekend. on the xda II i usually had about 30% battery left on sunday night.. last weekend (the first weekend i had it, i got it the thursday before) it barely lasted one night.
IS THERE ANY SOLLUTION??
So whats the solution? ....This much less battery time does,nt serve the purpose for me ....i always have my nokia handset with me bec pda2 battery goes dead in 6 hours when i am at work...i am seriously thinking to sell PDA2...it would have been better that i should have purchased PDA2k.i post a query to imate technical support they replied that give a hard reset to ur device and see ...but nothing happened..the guy said he is forwarding my query to technical deptt lets see what they say....
In short i am really disappointed after spending so much money what i got?...if the battery time is less pda2 is of no use for me.
The solution
Hi all - After long conversations with O2, I conclude that there is no solution (apart from always carry a spare battery). I'm really disappointed too! More so, because O2 constantly said my PDA was 'not right' and they kept swapping it out for anew one...

just a thought, have you turned turbo omode on? because that will definetly suck the battery?
also, turn down the backlight settings....
Battery
Hi SouthernMan
Yep Turbo off and backlight set to minimum (plus all the other tweaks that drain the baterry are 'off' or set to their lowest
right now im hoping they're going to release a new ROM that will magically fix everything.. because i can't see it as being a problem with something we're doing.. it must be the device.
Battery
Hi OmniWolf
I agree 1000% That's what I kept telling O2, but they insisted
1. it was the device (changed it twice, made no difference)
2. it was the battery (changed it three times, made no difference)
3. It was some software I was running (took all progs off one by one, took ages, made no difference
((
S
well hopefully they'll get enough support calls that they start looking at the problem seriously
I REALLY hope so! it's a great device...but I can't get through a business day without having to recharge it. Mainly that's not as problem, but just occasionally, I have to work a day when there's no access to any charging facilities...and if you couple that with going out after work for a few drinks, the PDA is completely dead by the time I get home
I found that mine was draining at a rate of 8-10% per hour
Dear All,
Battery usage time is really one of the big concern for heavy duty user.
But O2 seems don't have any solution for the buyer. Buying a spare battery seems to be the only one solution....
I know you recommended buying a spare, but a more powerful battery that get you through the business day is a better solution in my book!
Hey I saw from Blue Angel thread you guys (Mugen) have battery for IIs.
So.... do you have higher capacity batteries for XDA II and IIi?
From myxda site I think they use the same battery.
think i might invest in sprite backup actually..
A disapointing end with pda2
Atlast after getting no reply from imate customer support(they just said give it a hard reset which had no effect on battery life) i sold my pda2 which had 4 hours of total call time at a loss of 180$...there is no big market for pdas in pakistan.
I was never expecting a well reputed device costing 800$ with such a major flaw... imate and o2 should be questioned in court y they bought a pda in market with a major flaw.

is atom life so bad?????

hi guys i want to buy a atom life but the reviews by users are so bad!!!!!
is atom life so bad really??????
plz advice!!!!!
Atom life is very good for the price you can buy it !
But... MWG support is so bad, I bought my atom-life less than 1 year ago and it became to have problems with the speakers and the microphone... So I sent it to MWG for fixing it because it's still under the warranty.
They said me that I opened the cellphone by myself before, which brokes the warranty. But I never opened it !!! They are wrong and now I have to pay 270€ (~$400) for fixing it or 35€ ($50) for sending it back to me !
I bought it here : http://www.expansys-usa.com/p.aspx?i=164358
As you can see they ask me to pay more than the price of the atom life !
If you want a smartphone for less than one year maybe it's a good deal, otherwise don't buy it or you will have to pay if something goes wrong.

hi. i have been using this phone for a over a year now. there are some minor bugs in this phone. but i just got used to these bugs. never tried to get them fixed or complained. the only thing which is a disadvantage is poor battery. it just manages to last a day, sometimes only 18 hours in the day - i keep my phone on 24 hours and talk time is about 1 hour average.
if you willing to do that, then this phone is a great buy.
from the other forum for atom, i have downloaded ROM update by TranMinhMan and it has done wonders for my phone.
was planning to change, but after this ROM update, i have no plans.
i love this phone.

atom life huv strong processor and huge ram, eat battery power to keep live a life.
Have been using 1 for almost a year now.
Pros: Fast processor, 1Gb internal storage, ~850MB user accessible. 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, SDHC expandable (I use a 16GB Sandisk card), WOW speakers
Cons: Battery Life (the only 1 as far as i'm concerned)
I still use the MWG's latest ROM. With MS set to release an update to WM6 soon, i'm sure it won't be long before we get our hands on another cooked ROM. That's when I'll upgrade.
Typical daily usage: 30 mins voice calls, 20 text messages, 10 mins Wifi in the morning to download mails from 4 accounts, 25 mins 3G use for traffic and weather (HTC Home PLug-in and Windows Live), emails and surfing, and a few games in between. 1530 Mah OEM battery would almost be dead by the time get home at the end of the day. I know covering the 2nd contact in the OEM battery would give you about 2 days but got myself a 3000Mah Mugen battery. And now it lasts 4 days without covering the contact.
The Atom Life is one of the most responsive devices I've used. Even better than some pure PDA's.
At about $200, it's a great deal. But I'd get a great replacement battery.. I'd recommend Worcell and Mugen.
been using it for a year. MWg brand 6.0 rom
Love the phone capabilities, design and specs( luv the 1GB rom ).
64 RAM is okay only probs when heavy browser and GPS program( i use bluetooth gps)- i need to clean the ram/temp
At the time of purchase best deal on spec and $ paid( was either this or asus p535). Today price drop by only 25$ pdaplaza.com
Dislike the following:
- battery is rather weak- lasts 30 hours if no calls- I will upgrade to MUGEN 1850 battery soon- should be much better
- chrome paint on camera ring, side buttons is weak- extended contact will dull/rust, good news about this is that its grey dark plastic underneath on the side buttons, so its ok. In general glossy black paint will fade/tiny scratches if u are not careful - I pamper mine ( i use screen protector too- cut it from nintendo DS pack)
- camera i could be better as always with 2.0 megapixels. MACRO mode is useful
- wifi.... not good for my phone - but I dont use wifi alot so its cool ( long story- search my username- a ROM upgrade should fix this from what I read )
so to wrap it up- baby this phone and you will not regret it.
If you cant baby it look for a different phone.
It is my first WM device and i do not regret it. Cheap and capable.

How long does your battery last?

I've had my phone for ages now, and the battery seemed to start draining very quickly. I swapped to a new battery, but that didnt fix it, then I reflashed Rom and Radio just in case -
Only thing is I cant remember how long it used to last
I get about 24 hours when its not doing anything (no wifi gps screen not on, no music - pure standby) - is that normal? I'm sure I used to get more
if its not - what should I get, and have you any ideas what it could be - (hardware?)
battery life on my Trinity far exceeds yours, and I think your problem may be the Radio version.
I use mine for GPS on Golf Course, and could easily get 18 holes out of it with my original Radio ver 1.38.00.11 ...
I then upgraded to ver 1.56.70.11, which according to the forum is a far better version, and with good battery life.
not so in my case, I could only get through 14 holes, and have now reverted back to my original one.
I must admit, I used to get much better battery life out of my original radio but upgraded to 1.56 cos everyone else says it's great.
I might downgrade to see if it sorts out my battery problems. I thought it was just cos I was playing with it a lot more these days.
I think my battery life shortened all of a sudden - I'm testing it against a mates,
My cameras stopped working now - I've read some threads but had no luck with solutions (taking battery out for 15 mins etc) any ideas anyone

Ok, this has eaten at me for a while now. I too have a LOT less avail battery than I had a couple years ago, and I've replaced my battery with a longer lasting version.
I think it's time I try your experiment to see for myself if the radio could be the culprit. I've suspected the newer ROM releases to be the cause, but it's a little hard to believe, especially when I usually flash pretty nekkid ROMS.
I know that sometimes people see new version numbers and believe it must be better just becaue of that. I am one of those people sometimes. As we all know, newer is not always better. Do any of the following updated version numbers jump out to anybody?

I think it may be a combination. I know I play with the phone more than I used to when I first got it.
My battery works fine 3 daysd in pure standby and more than a day when I work with the phone.
Maybe You can try the original radio, just for a test.

Anyone got some links to older radios?
I've got all of them in my signature. Click "Get Your ROMs Here", then "Radios"
I didn't end up trying one of the older radios but I did get my ass over to EBay and buy a new battery. I got a genuine HTC replacement for about £6.50. At first there was no difference in battery life but after a couple of cycles it's got much better now. I can usually get about 2 days out of my phone between charges. This is using it quite a lot as I get all my emails synced to the device via Google Sync.
I can recommend a new battery to give your tired old phone a new lease of life

Battery Issue

Hello guys i own a hd2 and a blackstone.
I tried android on my hd2 and i must say the battery life on the hd2 is good, a lot better than the blackstone. it is able to last one day with data usage and stuff. However, on the blackstone, without data usage, the battery life decreases tremendously. Is it due to a difference in hardware which leads to such a big difference? or is it simply because of some encoding errors in the package for our blackstone?
I am no a pro in programming but i am thinking maybe this will enable developers to further improve the blackstone android experience!

It's primarily due to two teams working on two different hardware platforms, and the older hardware platforms aren't as well documented or understood, particularly with regard to power management. HD2 is better understood and therefore better supported, but a day of battery is still pretty bad.
alright personally i have tried some registry tweaks on our blackstone which are reported to be effective in controlling battery consumption on the hd2. will report back if the tweaks are useful.
I bought a bigger battery on dealextreme.com
that works perfect
I must say it is absolutely true...
battery lasts just a day without using neither wi-fi nor 3G connections...
if I use wi-fi it drains in 6 hours or less...
I notice that the device is hotter than when I use WM...even if wifi is disabled...isn't it??

Yes, I fully agree. My blackstone also gets very hot (with and without wifi)
I have the same problem as well
yeah i am able to get the blackstone lasting for 15 hours and running for now (without 3g and wifi) currently playing around with different kernels to determine which one can last the longest in terms of battery life.
some were saying that the access of SD card generates lots of heats and reduce battery.. dunno if it was true.
but thats not the case for hd2
battery tests
Hi guys,
I have done some tests about battery lifetime on my Blackstone using Windows Mobile, Android 2.1 and Android 2.2
My device is running winmo Kwbr_HD_3.5_WM6.1
For all tests, I have just started the device after the battery has been fully charged.
I have not used the phone for any purpose.
It was just staying on the desk (and chewing the battery)
1. Android 2.1 - XDAndroid 2.1 (rel 2.5a).cab
1.1 GSM connection (standby) : 23 hours
1.2 GSM + 3G data connection active: 12 hours
2. Android 2.2 - XDAndroid 2.2 (rel 1.6).cab
2.1 GSM connection (standby): 24 hours
2.2 GSM + 3G data connection active: 16 hours
2.3 GSM + 3G data connection + CsipSimple connected to the server: 6 hours
3. Windows mobile:
3.1 GSM connection (standby): after 10 days battery at 33%
I lost my patience waiting to see how long does the battery last when using WM.
I expect the result to be somewhere near 2 weeks.
Android 2.2 is very nice.
And much better than 2.1
I would love to be able to use it every day on my phone, but I can not do this due to the poor battery performance.
For now, I will stick to Windows Mobile, unfortunately.
Does anybody know what results should I expect for the same tests on HD2 ?
Thanks.

i think the battery life for android 2.2 has improved quite a fair amount with the aid of camro and the devs to do the battery volume fix. Also with it being nearing complete, they would be putting their effort into battery consumption and NAND and this will definite help our blackstone on saving some more battery juice.
So look forward to the near future and thank what we are able to play around with to make our blackstone more enjoyable.
^^^ Ditto, like ho.angii said ^^^
Development on the kernel has been focused on hardware compatibility rather than kernel efficiency upto this point, search this forum for the issues that has dogged MSM-Dev history!
Regarding WinMo/Droid battery efficiency, using a fully charged Desire only gets about 36 hours moderate use before a recharge, if the Devs can get a true full days use from a fully functioning Droid-Blackstone, I'll be the 1st in the 'PayPal Donate' queue to get them a beer!
We should be grateful they are still putting effort into developing software for such ageing devices.

Hi .
Do yuo have found a better kernel for our Blackstone ?

Battery again...

I'm on Twilight DFC ( last version with htc hub )
Rom use : 2.14.50
HSPL : 2.08
card SD : micro SD sandisk 4Go class 4
Magldr : 1.3
Use : no really ( check my mails every 3 hours , 20 sms per day , little internet with 3g.
Désactivated : my 3g, wifi, localisation for a better battery level. My emails are checking just every hour by option.
Results : 100% at 8 A.m , 20% at 7 P.m ...
The battery are very drain...
with rom 2.15.50 it is the same
rom i have use : xmob 1.3 / 1.4 , moonlight ... and.. it is the same problem.
Please help me .
Same issue here. It's about 60mA battery drain, guess something wrong in power management.
You've most likely forgot to disable bluetooth completley. There is a 60mA BT bug in some roms.
bluetooth is off, but the battery running time is still bad. What Radio Rom is definitely the best ?
How to completely turn off bluetooth? It was turned off in settings
Yes, Settings/Bluetooth disable

2.12.50 with the battery tweak found in the development subforum gives me over a day with moderate to heavy usage (games, 3G internet, 3 e-mail [email protected] min, 30 min. voice calls). In standby (only mail sync on) I get 10-12% battery drop over the night.
Wait for a few recharge cycles and it will settle. At first I got 12-15 hrs. After 2 weeks it got MUCH better.
is your batter being charged propperly?
The battery tweak sets the full level for the battery.
you must first charge the battery to its maximum level then run the reg tweak
Now here is the problem, WP7 on our HD2 will not charge the full batter all of the time. Quite often you must charge until it goes green, then reboot and charge so more, keep repeating until the HTC battery tool reports the ACR level roughly the same as the FULL level.
to give you an idea
Ive just charged my phone over night, it says its full, it wont charge any more but the tool reports it only half full, even though the indicator shows full. But my battery life will drop like a rock and may report being empty when its not.
If i restart my phone just now the tool shows a jump in ACR value to about 800mAh it then allows me to charge the remaining 400mAh.
or you might find that restarting it shows the battery is full in both indicator and ACR value
The point is, after a full charge, restart the phone because until you do the phone doesnt appear to know whats goig on wth the battery, im guessing this is something to do with the fact that the HD7 and HD2 DO have some small differences inside.
I think what frustrates me more than anything else is the sheer unpredictability of my battery performance. I have done all the tweaks and installed the battery tool but overnight in the past week I have seen the battery go down as low as about 15-20% and remain as high as 80% with a range in between (estimated values, of course).
I'm now going to try to look at my data usage to see if anything is causing the radio to work extra hard some nights and not on others.
If it was at least consistent I could then start thinking about Radio versions, management strategies and the like but while it's so variable it a bit hard to get scientific with it...!
indeed it is a bit of a pain but remember we were never ment to have this ROM.
remember though it might be unpredictable because its not full, its not as easy as it sems to get a full charge, even when htc battery tool and MS tells us its full it might not be, persistant restart and charge usually gets it done
It is definitely battery problem exists! Don't try to hide it because all that stuff you are talking here to solve that is not working! Test in 2G network without any BT and WiFi during 24h failed, battery completely drained without reason.
no one is saying there isnt a problem, there are seveal problems
The big one is you shouldnt have WP7 on your HD2, our device was not supported, you cant say the HTC HD7 is the same because it is not, largely it is yes, but internally it has differences, one of these differences seem to be the controler for the battery
To be clear, WP7 cant report the correct battery level without tweaking it, and in some instances WP7 will not completely charge your phone but it may appear full there by leading to quick battery drainage
I second that. I think it's the matter of hit and miss. I have two hd2s, and one of them has ****e battery life. Both are using the same rom, same radio, same battery optimisation technique btw.
I bought an HD7 cause of the battery drainage of WP7 HD2, multi touching, downloading from market e.t.c!
I know HD2 is better than HD7 because you can have everything but... WP7 is my thing ya know??? So if you guys liked WP7 just go out there and buy your selves an official WP7 device! Believe me i l.o.v.e it and i will stick with it!
Battery life on HD7 is stunning! I have it running 3 days now and now i have 20% with moderate use..

Worse recommendation I ever saw. When first android port was released, there was huge battery drainage too but now I'm using android on my HD2 with 3 days batt life and I didn't buy new android device. So it can be fixed without wasting money.
In my opinion..Android is boring.. I know that battery life on Android HD2 is awesome but the OS is very Boring... When i flashed WP7 i said "this will be my daily OS" (i love simplicity..)... At that time i needed to charge my battery daily and i was a little bored of the hard keys and battery and stuff like that! (also i had some lost pixels on the screen) Didn't wanted to go back to Android though! So why do i have to keep my boring HD2??? Since i wanted to run WP7 as a daily OS i got my new HD7 (for 150Euro)
I am Just telling my opinion and i hope you agree with me...
I am a tech lover guy...Yesterday was iPhone, after that HD2,today HD7 and God knows what else for tomorrow!
where to get an hd7 for 150,- euro????? i'll going out and get two of them, too
for me wp7 is boring until now. almost no customization.. when you want to turn off data or wifi or bt you have to navigate through 2 or 3 menus.
and it is slow even though there are beautiful animations. (contacts open in about 2 seconds and in android it is about 0,5 seconds)
i am all for simplicity as long as you have all functions and speed.
btw battery is enough for 1 day with moderate use but forget using it from early morning and a long partynight
(camera issue still a bummer)
im all up for opinions on here....so ill give me own
Im sorry but i have not seen a more fluid and resposive device then the HD2 with WP7, iphone, android on various models even WP7 on other devices dont appear as quick as mine but thats the luck of the draw with using our HD2 some folk have had issues others think its amazing. contacts for me, around 200ish load instantly
luck of the draw
battery life is a concern still as is the camera other than that all is good

I'm not agree. You didn't notice that "super simple" WM7 consuming more energy than "boring" android? And what a point of this?
You know what, rich people always bored. I got my first iphone (3gs) just 3 month ago, and HD2 was like a gift from my friends in America.
