Installing ROM from SD card troubles - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I have a 2gb SD card, I renamed the nbh to HERMIMG.nbh and placed on the SD card.
The SD card has no folders only the ROM on it.
I hold the OK and Power button down and reset with stylus.
I only get the multicolored screen with serial at the bottom.
What else do I need to do?

Did you format the card fat32 first?
Have you installed Hard SPl on your hermes? If not, DO IT.... You can find it in the upgrading section on the "Hard SPL or how not to brick your Hermes" thread...
Cheers...

I have:
IPL - 1.04
SPL - 2.10.Olipro
Is there a way I can format in FAT32 from the phone itself? I cant find my memory card adapter for my PC to format it?

try resco explorer
you can format your card on ppc

Use a card reader, I don't know if the ppc will format correctly.
Cheers...

How to upgrade ROM?

I am using xda1 and would like to upgrade it to WM2003 (T-mobile CE Rom). However, after I wrote the ROM (NK.nbf) to my 128M SD card through a SD card read/writer by XDA OSImage Tool, I pressed the power button together with soft reset to the bootloading mode and put the SD card into my xda, nothing happen. It does not check the new rom, why?
You have to insert the SD-Card BEFORE you go into Bootloader-Mode.
Greetings, Kaputter
I also tried that, I input the SD card first and pressed to the wallaby bootloader mode (v5.15).
What it showed was just the "white/red/green/blue" page and checked GSM ok. Any other button I have to pressed?
Chris it means that the card has not been written to properly I think, try writing the file again, if you put it in your xda without going into bootloader, it should offer to format the card for you, just say no to the question then try again, if it doesnt offer to format the card it means the file has not been written correctly.
Yeah, you are right.
When I inserted the card (that I think written with the NK.nbf) in the card reader/writer, it didn't ask me to format the card. When I open the explorer for that drive, I saw the nbf file there.
I tried to write the file several times and same results.
Let me explore my case a bit. I used the XDA OSimage tool and for the Source, I chose the file (NK.nbf that contains the T-mobile 4.01.00 downloaded from other thread in this forum) in my computer (WIN2000) and for the destination, I chose the G:NK.nbf.
Any thoughts?
You need to choose destination from the drop down box, it should show your card reader there, then it will work.

That's your problem right there.
You can't just do a windows/dos 'file copy' to write the ROM image to the SD card. You need to use XDAtools or its predecessor XDArit to copy a raw ROM image to the card. The difference is that the card must ONLY have the Rom image and not the FAT, etc information that gets added in when the card is formatted.
This is why under the correct circumstances the XDA gets confused when you first stick the card in - it sees a card that isn't formatted so it offers to format it so the card can be written to.
The bootloader method is IMO the best way to upgrade the ROM. Read up some more on XDAtools and how it can be used to write the ROM image to the SD card.
But I did use the OSImage Tool already. For the source, I choose the NK.nbf file from my PC and I choose the SD card drive for the destination.
But the actual problem seems solved for me. The actual reason for upgrading to WM2003 for me is to view and edit the office attachment whenever received from my e-mail. In the past, I can't read the word or excel document without activesync the files. Now, by using an add-in software, I can.
Thanks very much to everybody.

WM2003 with bootloader 5.22

How can I flash to WM2003 with bootloader 5.22. Other than the diagnostics menu, all I see (when hitting contacts) is:
CE ROM to SD
BOOT to SD
CE+BOOT to SD
GSM ROM to SD
CE+GSM to SD
Thanks in advance...
You need first to use an sd card and a card reader/writer, using the tools available on the forum you program the card with the rom image, you then place this in your xda, push power while using stylus to push in the hole on base of xda, the system will recognise the rom and ask you would you like to program the rom. Its a good idea to use that bootloader section that you are in to backup your existing rom first, ce to sd.
Thanks for the reply. I've done all that you said, but the bootloader just comes to a bootloader screen with the version and nothing else. It never asks me to do anything with the ROM. When I hit the contacts button, like in earlier versions of bootloader, there is no menu option to restore from SD.
there is no option for that, it does this automatically if you instert an sd card with the os image in the right format.
OSImageTool can create such an sd card for you.
I'm not sure what I have done wrong in creating the image then. I used xdatool with NK.nbf as the source and NK.nb1 on an SD card in a card reader as the destination. It creates fine, and when I enter the boot loader on my SX56, it goes from WAIT to GSM OK and then sits.
it does not matter what is on the sd-card before you write the os image on it using xdatools. the old data on the card is overwritten.
if you insert the card with the osimage on it in your xda, it should complain that the card is not formatted, if it says this it is ok, it just means that windows ce does not see a FAT filesystem on the card.
( so don't answer 'yes' to that question )
if you then boot into bootloader mode, you should get the question if you want to flash your rom.
I don't get the question to flash my rom. Please, what am I missing???
XDAtools:
Browse to NK.nbf as the source
Browse to NK.nb1 on SD reader as the destination
Boot with SD card into Wallaby
Screen goes from WAIT to GSM OK.
Nothing else.
I can see a file NK.nb1 on the card when I look at it in the card reader.
Do not use browse, use the drop down box in destination, choose sd card, then it will work, when you insert the card to your xda it will ask to format it, reply no and enter bootloader mode as you did before.
There is something about this bootloader that does not allow this or this option is disabled. I hvae the same problem and have flashed amny times on other bootloader version. I have a device with bootloader 5 and the same sd card flash that would not work on the bootloader 5.22 works on 5.15! So I don't have any idea. Something new form HTC  I guess.

this is wrong
a sd card with the os image on it should appear as 'unformatted' or unreadable to either windows or windows ce.
you have to select sd card device from the dropdown menu.
such that the destination says something like
J: 123M USB Storage MMC[/quote]

Cannot restore

Hi people, trying to restore a stock SPL after installing HSPL
as the phone is going for an exchange, when i press the vol down button and power the tri color screen comes on and briefly says loading but then goes to the tri color screen again with SPL-1.42.HSPL CotullaHSPL on it.
I have placed leoimg.nbh on the root of the sdcard and it is formatted in FAT32.
I also thought i was holding the vol down button too long but i release as soon as i see the colours but nothing loads still
Any help would be appreciated.
how did you copy the nbh onto the storage card?
i had the same issue and it sounds mad but i think you must put the sd card into the phone and connect it to a PC via cable as a disk drive. Then copy nbh onto the card that way.
Should work after that.
Yeah that's the way I did it already. Need to try and do it before tomorrow morning
ok... maybe i got it wrong... try it the other way... put the card directly into your PC via a card reader and copy the nbh onto it that way.
i had exactly the same issue and it was definately the way i copied the nbh onto the card that was at fault.
Found out it was my 8gb SDHC Memory card, i transferred the leoimg.nbh to a standard 2gb sd card that came with the phone and its updating fine.
Thanks for the help

EnergyRom flash and MicroSD not detected anymore

1. I was checking files on my 8GB card in file exproler
2. I removed my 8GB card
3. Install of HSPL 3.03
4. Formatting new 2GB card with FAT32, copying radio rom on it, shutdown and pressing power+volume_down...
5. Boot loader or how its called came up but flashing did not begin...I'm guessing because of filename...
6. I've turned the device on and flashed the rom using USB with CustomRRU.exe
7. After that I flashed with energy rom, USB with CustomRRU.exe
8. Everything was fiine with flashing...going trough settings...
9. I inserted my 8GB card back but file exproler or any other application can't see it.
If I connect the device without card I get 2 options:
- ActiveSync
- Modem
If I connect it with card I get all 3 options
- ActiceSync
- Modem
- Disk Drive
So...the device obviously knows that the card is inserted but it can't access it...
I don't know if the problem is hardware or software...
put it into a card reader then use Easeus free edition to remove the partitions and reformat the card as primary fat 32 job done
I have fixed the problem...
I tried another microsd and it worked...then I tried my microsd again and somehow it worked too...miracle I guess...I tried taking out and putting it back before...reseting the device...but now it suddenly works...
I was just going to try you formatting advice but I decided to try another microsd before...thanks anyway
That's got something to do with data stored on SD by the old OS.
If you change OS you should format your SD with a card reader or at least you should delete Applicaton Data and Program Files folders on SD.

Perhaps try putting into a USB card reader or SD card adapter, then try seeing if the computer recognizes it.

Yeah get yourself a SD card adaptor to put your SD card in and then put it in the SD card slot on your computer, or if you do not have one get a USB SD card reader to put the adaptor in. They will run you something like 8 to 10th dollars USD for both to get them.
Also your card is like this bot because you erased the MBR on your SD card. It is because on the first boot of WP7 it formats your memory card with a RAID format so it can use your SD card as internal memory. You have to do a low level format of the card to remove it. Once the low level format is done you will have to do a full format of it again with Fat32
This is for others that well read this, if you flash a WP7 ROM and it boots up but you so not like it or it does not work right. Do not, I repeat do not try flashing the ROM again or try flashing another WP7 ROM before doin the low level format and then a Fat32 format on your SD card. If you do you will probably end up with a trashed SD card.
Thanks i will try that..
No, i cant do nothing... i try with a external sdcard reader over usb and the sdformater just stops working when i start or do a refresh. i try with others sd cards and the new sdcard reader works good...
Any more ideas?
