OK, I see that the 7500 has a secondary camera... any other differences?
I have the HTC_Advantage from a US Retailer...no camera. Kind of blows.

Umm, Yes I can read that. It doesn't tell me anything additionally since my last post. What about OS versions, etc etc.
I'd love a video conferencing capable device.

Many of the reviewers mentioned about speed and camera improvement over the European Hero. As we know, these are the two notable improvements brought about by the new rom update.
One exception is Engadget's review though, where Joshua mentioned no noticeable improvement in speed over the European Hero (with old rom). Upon asking, he told me that the version number on his review unit is 1.22.651.1, which indicates that it doesn't have the new rom installed (new rom has version number 2.xx.xxx.x). He also mentioned that the firmware version of his review unit is 1.5, i.e. NOT 1.6 Donut.
This is puzzling. I thought CDMA got supported only starting in 1.6. OK, I know the logic, 1.6 spots CDMA supports doesn't mean that 1.5 can't have CDMA support. It's just that, if that's the case, why call this a new feature of the 1.6 firmware?
1.6 is out since yesterday ... donĀ“t think that the new Hero has it, or am I wrong?
Greets, Ro.
I was just wondering if there is any HTC Tattoo (also known as Click) for T-mobile G1? If there is, can anyone please post it here, please?
Fully working? no.
last I heard there is one being developed/ported but there is an issue with the resolution, so nothing yet as far as I know. The development is being discussed in a non-xda forum but I forgot the name. if I find the link again ill post it here, I think is was on the comments section of a tattoo user review somewhere, I don't remember.
Someone had ported it, but again due to different resolutions it's completely useless. I wouldn't get your hopes up on use ever geting a useable Tatoo port, just enjoy eclair
I think it is not possible because the display resolution is different between models. But if the version 2.0, I think that restraint no longer exist.
Tattoo is version 1.6, so ...
But I'm a noob in this matter.

Android 1.6 added official support for screen resolutions other than 320x480, which is why everything is scaled correctly (in theory atleast) on the Tatoo. The problem isn't a firmware limitation, the problem is all the drawables for TouchFlo, framework shizz and a few system apps are all too small. When viewed on a larger screen (not to mention one with a different aspect-ratio) they will either look blury due to upscaling, or won't be big enough to fit in with other UI elements. Basically it's a complete nightmare to port, but hey, stock 1.6 is better anyway

A seller from Taiwan saying that this is an OEM HTC Diamond 2 T5353 with European compatible 3G HDSPA.
I know that this is 99% a fake one, but what do you think?
Diamond2 camera is 5MP for starters

Yes, and that's why it catagorized as "3 mpx and up". (5 is more than 3 btw)
It may not be fake, but it looks like a scam.
- No original picture (stock picture from web)
- "Too good to be true" price
- Copied spec from sales literature
- Inaccurate box contents description (Topaz comes with one battery, and would only include two if it was opened)
- Seller has many low price transactions
- Previous buyer was a new account, linked with phones (often used to add legitimacy, buy phone from second account and re-sale.
Against that though are that there is only one unit for sale. If they had 7 or 8, I'd be more skeptical.
I could well be wrong.
it is very obvious that this is chinese clone

A "very nice" WinMo clone, if specs are correct: a WVGA Screen With 3G/HDSPA(On the ebay auction)
I've never saw something like that on a chinese clone, I think they are wrong about this specs, only the Marvell PXA310 624MHz, I know it is true because I already saw a chinese WinMo one with this processor live, but no 3G neither WVGA screen.
My wife bought a TD2 Asian clone for some ridiculously low price on eBay.
Phone seems to work just fine, no touch flo interface so she's restricted to WM 6.1 at present.
Being a complete noob to all things mobile I was wondering if this phone could be flashed with a cooked rom, and if so, are there any benefits to doing so?

The Hard SPL from this forum will not unlock your device.
You would have to write your own unlocker or possible pay someone here to do it as it is a one off....
As far as advantages, phone will be quicker and more responsive because you eliminate all of the carriers bloatware, plus custom ROMs are tweaked for better performance.
I'm looking at buying the Xperia Neo or Pro (sorry guys, couldn't find a sub-thread for those). I've done enough reading about the Arc (which is such a gorgeous device), but I'm leaning towards the Neo for the front-facing camera, which is a biggie for me, and/or the Pro for the hardware keyboard. So here are my questions.
How much RAM (not internal memory) do these devices (Arc/Neo/Pro) have?
Any word on the unlockability of the bootloader this time? The first thing that I would do (or most of the people here) with an Android device is slap a custom ROM on it.
How much lag does Timescape actually cause? I'm reading conflicting opinions!
Not managed to unlock the bootloader on the X10 yet.. and we've not seen timescape on the new ones.. so don't really know.. you can get the memory info of the SE site..

1. 512
2. Dunno, guess we'll have to wait and see. Gehot is on the job though
3. Its just an app, you dont have to use it. The widget seems to cause some lag when swiping homescreens, but like I said, you dont have to use it (I wont)
Why would you want a frontfacing camera, the only useful thing about it are obviously video calls, and those won't be mainstream or even practically useable for at least next 5 years ? :O
But anyway, all of them have identical RAM size - 512 mb. The bootloader will be locked for all the devices, and more companies will start locking their devices in near future as well.
And errr, timescape.. depends really, Xperia Arc is lagfree from what I've seen, no idea about other members of the new Xperia line.

The girlfriend lives far away and both of us are planning to get 3G phones with front-facing cams! (3G has just been introduced here in India, and I guess the prices for video-calls will drop because of all the competition)

It is just more convenient to video chat on the go!
I'm just waiting 'till mobile network providers realise how much cheaper VoIP on Android phones is, than making actual phonecalls ( provided you have some data plan ) - I think I've saved loads of cash for just making calls via skype on my phone instead of making an actual phonecall.
Hoping we even officially get it,
As a dell venue pro owner, I cant honestly say I care about the compass working, I mean, my phone is running tango, very minimal apps right now and everything is just peachy. Except the friggin' camera. I come from using an XPeria Play and iPod4g camera, this thing is so horrid in low light, I just carry my ipod around for any picture taking, and I just took my first video today and im not very impressed with the framerate, Then again the hardware is old, But my xplay had a 5mp camera and the difference is night and day.
Other than that, just hoping for ANY exploit so we can run have root access/Registry editor. Since this is the last update we'll be seeing for our WP7 devices, Hopefully something comes along.
Although theres always that fear if it does, that developers wont lend any love to the DVP, since dell left their line of smartphones in the dust. But theres always some kind of hope right.
Since WP7.8 is supposed to be released after WP8, how much do you wanna bet some industrious XDA member figures out a way to put WP8 on WP7 handsets? Then we won't even care when WP7.8 comes out!
I have no concrete information that there isn't an insurmountable hardware limitation to this, I'm just being optimistic. Either way I'm trying not to get too excited since WP8 won't be out until November.
As far as the DVP camera -- that's definitely a hardware limitation. It's just a crappy CCD, no matter how many megapixels it is. I'm just glad it's flush with the back of the phone (I'm looking at you, HTC!) I just think of it as a sensor for things like scanning QR codes, because I know the chances of getting a decent picture with it are slim.
I hope Nokia, Samsung, or HTC look at the DVP and find some inspiration in it when designing their first WP8 handsets.
For the same reason we dont have reliable (above developer) unlocks, we're likely not gonna get WP8: we dont have a custom/modded bootloader.
Even if WP8 worked on WP7.x devices, what're the odds that changes would need to be made (very least to get it to boot), some devices have custom bootloaders that can bypass signature checks, but the VP doesnt.
I'd imagine devices like the HD2 would get hackports, but I cant imagine WP8 would simply require using cabsender on unmodified cabs.
Also: noone's noticed, but the VP doesnt have 802.11n, I cant imagine that the VP wouldnt have a BCM4329. The 4329 supports 802.11 a/b/g/n 2.4/5.0GHz (depending on configuration)
The V has a 4329 and it supports 802.11n/2.4GHz
While I'm very happy with my DVP, Dell has lost my business for sure. I'm sure they won't miss me even though I had purchased over 50 systems in the past, not to mention peripherals and such. I went with the DVP because of the form factor and my previous experience with them. But the way they handled the debacle they created let's me know they don't truly stand behind their products. Nokia seems to be the future for WP, so when it comes time to replace the DVP, that's where I'll be looking.
