I've searched around and couldn't find anything on this. I was able to connect to networks fine, but then it stopped. When I try to connect, I see the network, then when I hit connect, it will say network unavailable. The strange thing is the network pops up a second later. I have tried disabling encryption, changing wifi power, and even a hard reset, but it still won't work. I have A-GPS disabled. I also have my evdo connection disabled. Before anyone asks I have the hardware switch on, and virtually sit on the router. I'm currently reflashing the radio rom and os.
Don't know if this will help but I've been told to be 5-6 feet away from the router.
Alan
have the same issue and have posted servral times about it...
no solution so far. reflashing does nothing. try a different router

I have the same problem, I've read all the threads on here and ppcgeeks and searched google and it sounds like lots of other people have the same problem, with no solution.
Maybe it's hardware, but I've upgraded my ROM and so I can't warantee it, and since I have an oddball carrier, I can't even go back to the original rom.
Hmph.
If anyone else has had this and a new phone fixed it, please let me know!
I have the XV6800 on Verizon and have a similar issue. I can connect to routers fine, I connect and see full signal strength. But when I try to load a page, nothing. My router is showing that my phone is connected fine but still nothing will work. I've searched around and heard that Verizon has rigged the 6800s to only be able to use routers with Verizon as the ISP, I have Comcast...
I have had many a wifi problems, I wont go into them here, but are your connections set to access "work" or "the internet"?
I have had that happen when I set up my device before, I had to go back and set it to "the internet". easy to check, hopefully might help somebody

Exactly the issue for me. I am using Sprint Mogul with latest Sprint ROM. When my wireless connection setting was set to "work" it was sooo slooow. I changed it to "the internet" and it sped up more than five times the speed. Like others before, I could connect fine with both settings, but only the "the internet" setting would enable me to actually use the wifi.
with all of us having the same exact problem. I don't think it's a "unique" problem anymore. I started experiencing the whole no wifi thing way back and have learnt not to have wifi.

I have my tytn flashed thay Cingular's Rom and each time at the my house I use my wifi. Now the issue is that pie wants to dial out and not use the wifi. I am connected to the wifi. I have try everything I can think of.. If you know the answer please let me know. Thanks
Try this:
settings->connection settings tab->Network Cards
change "My network card connects to:"
Make value "The Internet"
also, I often have problems connecting to WiFi unless the following setting is used:
Settings->Connections->Wireless LAN->Power Mode-> and set to "Best Performance"
Well I tried that and it still keeps trying to dial out. I can connect to the wifi just fine, it just won't use it.

I had a similar problem ealier this week, did a soft reset and wifi working OK - maybe worth a try if not done already?
Okay, I've searched, sifted through a boatload of possible threads relating to mine and still haven't found a resolution to my problem.
My Wi-Fi doesn't connect to my wi-fi router at home. My laptop connects perfectly fine without any hiccups. I've gotten the wi-fi to connect to our local Apple Store's wi-fi network to access the internet.
I double checked the password like a hundred times, disabled to proxy, and made sure the network is connecting to the internet and not on the my work settings.
I'm still using WM5 and not sure if it's an issue with the OS or not.
Please someone lend a helping hand. I've spent many hours researching this problem and still nothing.
Note: I did get it to connect only once when I first got last week and it didn't work again after I left the house. I've master reseted the damn thing over 5 times just to make sure.
1.Erase the settings for your home network out of your phone 2. Remove the security from your router and try connecting again
If that does not work hard reset the router again and try to connectthrough its default settings (make sure their are no saved wifi networks in your phone)

I've tried your method. The first didn't work.
The second method worked. I had to hard reset my router and try again and it finally worked even with my password. I also master reset my phone prior to hard resetting my router.
Thanks for the info. Would you happen to know why it might have done that?
It might have bveen the security settings on the router or your router was just blocking it all together...
This sucks. It eventually keeps doing the same thing again and again. When I leave my house and try to reconnect later when I get home, WHAM! No connections. It can find my router and says it's available but when it tries to connect, it can't. I don't know what the hell is wrong.
I've master resetted both my phone and router and started all over from scratch.
On my Linksys router i use no security protocols. i use MAC address filtering instead. If the router does not have your mac address you can not connect. Drives the neighborhood war-drivers crazy!! It says unsecured, but they can not connect no matter what they try!
me neither
Since I installed wm6, my wifi will connect to my network but apps like internet explorer won't load a page , it just stays stuck on : "locating...."
any idea?

That's the first thing i did buddy.
I am not really sure what it could be then, when I intaslled the official cingular wm6 Rom it was doing the same thing then I did a hard reset and when it was installing the extended Rom I did a soft reset and that fixed it, but then again I hyad to manually put all the settings in.
You might want to check if your really connected... If I start mine out about 1 inch from the router and get connected, I can walk all over the house and it will show connected (even updates the signal strength). However...IE will just keep saying 'locating' like yours. This is because it cannot reach the wifi base with it's buggered up transmitter. I don't think there is a cure for this.... Ikeep looking though...

How do you do that and find the mac address on the 8525? I'm using Black Majik's cooked rom so it may be different from the original WM5.
Also an update on hooking to my router. I disconnected my router and cable modem and left it off for about 3 minutes. I then plugged it back in and let both reset. I connected afterwards and it works fine. Don't know what will happen later on when I leave and it disconnects.
Hi guys. If you don't remember me - here's my story in a nutshell. I got a 8525 about a week ago. Since day one I tried and tried and tried but never managed to get the wifi working... (as you can imagine I am beyond desperate at this point)
Anyway last night I got thinking and decided to give it another stab. I hard reset, messed with the settings again...and this time manage to get a little further. My phone is now showing me as "connect to network", only problem is I get a message saying "Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change connection settings, tap Settings." each time I try to access anything internet related. I know I'm close especially since I'm actually connected now, I think it's just AT&T's rom doing everything it can to get me to use their networks (I'm on T-Mobile and don't have a dataplan anyway...).
Anyway can you guys think of what the problem might be? I'm so close I can taste it! Thanks.....
Bump... Anyone home?
where did you get your 8525? my wifi on my 8525 works perfectly fine, have u tried upgrading to WM6?
I have WM6 already. I got it off ebay. Everything is perfectly fine with it, it just doesn't want to use the wifi connection to get online.
Try a hard rest.
my 1st 8525 i got off ebay, and it worked great up until a few weeks ago, when the screen stopped functioning it just turned white, i called AT&T and they sent me a new 1 i just got it this morning and now, i cant make calls >.> it will ring then my phone will say i have no service when i have full service and the call will end. but my wifi is fine... did u use the WM6 upgrade that was released by AT&T
No thanks re: the hard reset. I've already done that... If I can't figure this out I'm going to sell my phone and steer clear of ppc phones. I like it, but I bought it for wifi and this is just getting ridiculous. I have tried everything. I've spent hours and hours on this. I've reset my router god knows how many times, played with security settings, reset my phone over and over to start over.....
The worst part now is that I know it's connected. The wifi aspect is fine. It's just the stupid phone not wanting to use the wifi connection for the internet.
Maybe someone with a 8525 and a Linksys router can post ALL of their wireless related settings for me.
Ekh
Yes I used the AT&T update.....
i use wifi and my linksys router, the 8525's range isnt that great u need to be within a few feet of the router to get good reception, im about 30 feet from mine and i get 2 Wifi signal bars and an ok speed. but try this
Start > Programs > Proxy Manager > Disable Proxy
then try to use your wifi, then go back and restore the proxy when your done, i think some 1 told me to do that because att uses that so u can use their internet service or sumthin
Thanks but I'm way ahead of you. I've already tried every piece of advice I've come across on xda. My last hope is someone elses detailed settings.
is your network passworded by a WEP or TKIP ?
It's WPA... My device has the password, and I added the MAC to my router table. It's connecting to the router/wifi...
...it's just that my device won't use the connection
* Sigh * Looks like another one of my please help me posts has gone dead...again...

Your problem may be one of the following:
1. The wifi connection is specified as connecting to "work" and programs are set to use an internet connection.
2. The wifi connection is specified as connecting to "internet" and programs are set to use a work connection.
Nope that's not it. But it does remind me of something so thanks. I deleted all the connections seeing as I don't have a dataplan... I made a new connection called "Wifi". BUT, it's not like I can specify any connection for it so it's just blank (no connection specified). By this I mean the options for a connection are:
bluetooth, cellular line, cellular line (GPRS, 3G), Generic IrDA, Hanes...COM1. No option for wireless...
Does that help?
Check that your router is set to allow connections by devices with 802.11b, which the Hermes uses. Most default to 802.11g only.
It's set for b and g
Helloooo...?
Hallelujah!!!!!
People, I have WIFI!!!
Thanks to everyone who tried to give a helping hand... It's really appreciated.
For future reference to those who are suffering from the same problem - this is what seemed to fix it... I entered google into IE via it's IP address rather than it's name (open command prompt, ping google.com...). To my surprise the page quickly loaded. I then instantly realized that the problem was with the DNS settings. I opened up "Wi-Fi" in settings, went to the "Network Adapters" tab at the bottom and entered in the DNS addresses for "IEEE 802.11b/g...". If you need help with this just PM me (I consider myself somewhat of an expert on this topic now).
I thought I was never going to get online. There IS a god!
Fresh flash of WM 6.5 over radio 3.42.50 on a Titan. Under Network Management, I've selected that "Programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using:" My Work Network, since I don't have a data plan. I go to Wifi settings, select Add New, put in the ssid, click through the security settings (temporarily disabled for this test purpose). My network shows up as "Unavailable". (I'm standing right next to the router). I click "Connect", it says "Connecting" for a couple of seconds and then goes back to "Unavailable".
What should I check first? I'm at my wits end.
You shouldn't have to "add new", your ssid should be automatically discovered and displayed in the list of wifi networks.
Did you connect to a wifi with your phone before, or is it a first attempt ?
Yes, I'd been connecting just fine until a few weeks ago. In fact, the refusal to connect was what prompted me to flash the thing -- figured that starting over might help.
So, your wifi connection was working well, but suddenly, for some obscure reason, it stopped working. Therefore, you decided to reflash your phone, but it didn't help, still not working.
Is that correct ?
I know I sound like a complete doofus, but yes, that's basically it. The weirdest thing is that every once in a while it'll find a wireless network and connect. But the connection never lasts for more than a few minutes, and then when it's gone the network is "Unavailable". And to anticipate your next question: There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for when it works. At this point I'm thinking I'll pick up a used Titan or Vogue on eBay and junk this thing.
Did you try a different rom ? Could be a faulty rom.
I've tried several different roms, yes.
this happens in some roms...
go2 wireless lan settings and then go2 power mode.change it to best perfomance frm best battery
Hi all, Searching all over for answers. Appreciate your help very much, not to be long-winded, but trying to be detailed. I've posted this message on other forums with no replies. Looking like not a common problem.
My phone Samsung Omnia SCH-i910, has the Verizon GPS unlocked ROM i910.10 V.CF03.2096 (WM6.1 Pro), don't think it's an issue here. My trouble is after using WiFi, will not work with cellular data. (Does not always happen, but seems to be related). Will "connect", but cannot download email, and cannot display web pages. After spending a hour on phone with Verizon support last week, went through 3 reps, finally resorting to hard reset cleared it up. Been working fine since today when try to connect wireless again. Another issue that may be related, I have a Linksys WRE54G range expander at home, which has been working great. The access point/router is at business 800 feet away with a parabolic antenna pointing at house.
For some reason mobile devices have trouble with it, as did an LG LRM-519 that I've since given up. PC clients have no trouble at all, get "5 bars" anywhere at home, but Omnia (or old iPaq H2215) will not connect through range expander. I believe trying messes up Omnia will not communicate over cellular afterwards (without hard reset). Earlier this week close to AP, no trouble switching from WiFi to cellular and back again. At home Omnia will connect to WiFi, but signal is weak, and useless as far as email and internet. I know if I get closer to router/AP will be able to connect and download/upload fine. But EVDO data still not working, reviewed all the settings again, deleted the wireless network settings, soft resets, *228 programming, changed around "My ISP", "Work", and "Connects to Internet" settings. Not sure about "Hidden Network" checkbox, thought at one time might have connected through range expander at home with 5 bars on Omnia with box checked on, but was not consistant. What does this setting mean?
I know a hard reset will fix the issue, until next time. Like to find the real answer to avoid again having to get it back to where I like.
"Next time" is here again, searching for the true answer before having to hard reset.
Thanks for your time and help.....
