Request to devoloppers (nobody interested) - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hello xda people,
Is there a programme (or can somebody make it) to emulate the left and right button with the headset button.
I explain a little bit more:
-1 click on the headset button emulate the left software button
-2 clicks on the headset button emulate the right software button
This will be very usefull to me, and maybe for others also

UP !
Yes it must be very usefull...
Assign specific applications to left and right then you can launch what you want !

This would be usefull for next and previous song while listening to music for instance

Nobody interested or is it just not possible??

Not possible. There is no unified API for the headset button. Some devices don't support it at all, others have low level implementations in the system (e.g. emulating the phone button or propietary extensions to the phone program). I don't know a single device that sends a common keyboard message (or any other window message).
It's about the same for the camera button in most newer devices, btw.

OK I think I understand, but would it be possible for headset's from one developer for one device, say HTC headset for Diamond or preferably Raphael. Iphone has this feature in their headsets. I really only need to skip a track and pause/play. My headset is able to call the last number I dialled (with 2 clicks).

DeviceLock + Volume Control

I've found a wonderful opensource device lock application (deltaLock). It can lock the device using hardware buttons and can keep device locked even if device was waked up by sms or gprs connect attempt. BUT. As far as I use my phone for playing music I conclude it is not very handy to have volume buttons nonfunctional. I have just added ability to control volume while device is locked.
The applications consists of two exe files. First, deltaConfig is used to set key codes for unlocking / controling volume. Second, deltaLock, locks device. You can set two keys for unlocking (they have to be pressed simultaneously) and one for each "Volume Up", "Volume Down", "Mute". By pressing volume buttons system sound volume changes, so it is useful not only when music is playing but also when the phone ringing or you are in the middle of conversation. By now, there are 10 sound levels available (common 5 is not enough for me but 10 is ok), it could be increased later (sound volume variable type in windows systems is word, so it can be any integer in range [0..2^16-1].
The best way to lock your device is to bind deviceLock to one of hardware keys. It can be done by Settings->Button, but it is better to configure unlock buttons first
Original deltaLock can by downloaded by the link above, deltaLock with volume control - here. Hope somebody will find this little app useful
assigning lock
hi, my wizard doesn't give me the option to assign delta lock with volume control to a hardware key. i did install the original lock first, and after uninstalling it the button assignment screen still has the original deltalock but givs the error message: ...cannot be opened...
any help would be great,
thanks in advance
The easiest way to fix it is to install original deltaLock again and then simply overwrite files in /program files/deltaLock with those unpacked from archive i provided (just copy deltaLock.exe and deltaLockConfig.exe from archive to /program files/deltaLock folder on your pda).
Sorry, i was too lazy to make an installer, but i'll fix it soon
I made a cab installer
working
many thanks, it's working perfectly now
You're welcome. Glad it's working now.
Hello there,
Thanks very much for that great program, in fact I have another issue, my Volume Control Scroller is not woring at all in my PDA2k (WM5), so it is impossible for me to mute the ring if i don't want to answer the phone, so what i am really searching for is a program like yours but without Device Lock, is there any program that I can change some buttons on my device(while PDA2k has many) to control volume?? I hope i can find like this program with you...
Thanks again,
Ghaith
umm
check AE Button Plus but it isn't free
hey, thanks alot, I tried the program, and it is working for volume control, but while Phone is ringing, these volume controls are not working, so I got nothing
anyway thanks again
Any additional Functions for a Great Program?!?!
Your program seems to be exactly what i am looking for. I carry a veriation of the HTC Wizard branded the Cingular 8125. I hate accidently picking up calls or dismissing messages or alerts when the device is in my pocket, briefcase or while pulling it out of the holester. Your program seems to be right up the alley of what I am looking for. Are any of the programs perameters user definable?
What I mean is, I just don't want to accidently answer a call or ignore a call. Nor do I want to accidently start a program, dismiss an sms, email, reminder or alert. But I would like all of the functionality of the volume slider to mute ringers on incoming calls until they go to vm and use my Windows Media Player and all of its functionality at the same time. I know this seems like having my cake and eating it too, but I have to think these devices are smart enough to handle it.
My idea would be a Device Key Lock user interface where eu had the ability to define through check boxes what programs to allow or not allow while the device or keys where locked. And that all of the functionality of the programs allowed where available.
Is it out there?
Thanks
CG
Part 2
Also a way to define how much time would go by before the device would lock on its own.

Want to remap hardware buttons freely...how ? (and some other tweaking-requests)

Does anyone know a registry hack yet for making it possible to remap ALL hardware buttons (or at least the OK button below the jog-wheel, cause this seems to be hard-coded to the Windows-menu) !?
Preferably a reg-hack that (re)enables this options in the regular \Settings\Buttons tab...
Another problem i want to fix (apart from the ROM being immature) is the fact that i have to go all the way into the Bluetooth-settings on the CommManager screen to connect my Jabra 620s in stereo/audio-mode, which is quite anoying and timeconsuming...
Some other strange thing is that when i want use Voicecommand (while playing audio) to either call someone or speak a command to WMP, this will only work when i use VC-assigned button on the device, and NOT with the answer/end button on my headset (wich should be working like the VC-button on device).
Anyone able to help me here ?
PS: i'm quite experienced WM user dating back to the Wyvern/PalmsizePC CE 2.12 devices...but i just can't seem to find my way around these huge registries in todays devices anymore... guess i'm getting old...
Anyone please ...?
I would like to know too. Style-wise, there are a lot of things HTC got wrong with the Trinity. In fact, I found the HTC Wizard better designed.
Damn thing needs IE, Messaging, Comm Manager buttons and a Volume slide but instead it has 2 OK buttons and a jog/dial which I rarely use.
Not to mention how buggy the release ROM is, what with huge delays between standby mode and MiniSD cards requiring re-insertion to work properly.
P.S. It would be nice to be able to change the functionality of the jog/dial wheel to volume control.
Yup - this is driving me nuts too.
I have 7 hardware buttons (inc the power button) on the trinity and I can only map 3 of them from Settings.
It's a real handicap (& Voice Command is conflicting with the voice dial button - or at least that's what I think is happening with my repeated failed installations).
Some wisdom from the forum would be almost as appreciated as a fix
Thanks,
M1

I don't have my Trinity yet, but have you tried some of the 3rd party Button remappers that are available? Magic Button etc.

I got my Trinity last friday and am using a 2Gb MiniSD card and so far no problems with it. I feel no real delay when coming out of standby mode and no problem at all with the MiniSD card, maybe you got a early version of the ROM that contained this particular problems.
I do agree with you with the OK buttons, but i also understand the way they were designed, the button close to the jog wheel is to be used together with the jog wheel so that you can single handedly use the machine.
Lets see if someone suggests a good 3rd party tool to remap the buttons and then everybody is happy ;-)

I am able to get VC to work with call/answer button when using my Motorola headsets H300 and HS805. The phone needs to be out of standby mode ie screen needs to be on. I can't seem to get it to work with my R35 I.tech stereo wireless headset. I guess this could mean compatibility issues between headsets? Does the call/answer button work if you are not listening to music?

Yes...you're right...it does work when the screen of my trinity is on. But offcourse when listening to music the screen is gonna be off...
The button on the headset does activate voicecommand when device is on (ie screen on) and no music is playing. But i'd rather have it understand my commands like "what track is this" while music plays (without having to take out the phone of my pocket).
As for the button-mapping: i'm familiar with the buttonmappers out there, but another application on my trinity is just not what i need... Is there really no way to get to this functionality through the registry ? I've searched quite a chunk of the registry but gave up; i just can't find it...

Precisely: one handed operation... That's what i want, so i want the button next to the jogdial to be the ALT+TAB function (which is available through Spb PocketPlus)...so i want to be able to map this to whatever button i like, not just the 2 options HTC gave me... (i don't count press'n hold as an extra button).
I think it's quite ridiculous to have TWO buttons activating the startmenu, and have them hardcoded to that. What's the point in 2 buttons doing the same thing ?
Being able to change the 'Windows' button woukld also be a fine sollution...
Try AE Button Plus. Your solution will not lie in the registry.

Just tried, it works (AE Button Plus -> File -> Add button)
But i found a little bug, after i used it to swap Right Softkey and Start Menu Button, Start Menu Button works fine (changed to be Right Softkey) but for Right Softkey, no matter how i press it, start menu will not be shown !!!
Because, after i press Right Softkey, Start Menu Button event is triggered, but Start Menu Button is set to be Right Softkey by AE Button Plus, so at the end pressing Right Softkey will be regarded as pressing REAL Right Softkey rather than Start Menu.
The most strange thing is that such bug will not happen when pressing pressing Start Menu Button =.="
Any idea ? How to solve it ?
Thanks in advance

And pressing Camera button, the Start Menu Button event will be triggered. it seems that there're some bugs in "Add button" functions of AE Button Plus

So it seems AE Button Plus is not the THE perfect tool for that, anyone tried another soft ?
Hi guys,
I'm too looking for a way to remap the startmenu-button for e.g. starting an application. No 3rd party software I tried so far is able to do so...
Any suggestion how to reassign the startmenue button to call a specific application?
Cheers
Punga
AEButton Plus maps all but the standby button...
... on my Wizard. Well, it doesn't touch the soft-reset, the camera gets funky when I try to map it, and I can't seem to move the vibrate function off the hold "Comm Manger" Key. Given I've got 50 different hardware button options, (or 37 added if I leave all the default functioning in place) with this nifty shareware (basically fully functional if you want to use it free forever), who cares about the dumb camera button (not in the count above).
My biggest problem is remebering where I mapped it all. My second is making decisions about how to map them.... :|| (that's a repeat sign in music-talk)
You gotta try it. I'd be curious to find out how it works on your hardware.

Mute Prorgam

Hi, i was wondering if there would be an easy way to create a program that would set my volume to "off".
Id like to set it to the button that my camera normally occupies, as i dont really use it that much, and would like to have the option to mute my devide without taking it out of my pocket.
Am i missing something here, or will something need to be created (or already has been for that matter) for me to be able to do this?
Cheers, Mike.
Me too! I want a one click mute button. can anybody provide the shortcut or parameters?
thanks.
so when you press the mute button on the top of the device is disables the audio and vibrate function instaed of only the audio?
What device do you have?

How dows one add/change a hardkey?

Hi, I did a lot of searching for this but I can't come up with any solution (which is odd as it strikes me to be a problem).
I bought voice commander yesterday as I'm on the road for my company a lot and all that works perfectly. So then I tried assigning it to a hardkey (is that the right word?) on my Touch HD (uk).
Apparently some incompetent interaction designer must have thought that it was a brilliant idea to only have one hardkey and bind that hard to making calls as well. Result? Me accidentally dialling 6 people out of the 7 times that I tried using it. I can only imagine what a horror it must be when I'm driving.
So here is the question; how do I add hardkeys to the buttons menu in the settings so I can assign stuff to those buttons? Any button really, preferably the 'hang up' button. Currently there is only 'button 1' but there must be a way of tapping into those other buttons.
I'm not shy of reg editing (it has to be a key or something in the registry) or anything like that but I can't seem to find a regeditor.
I'd try the HTC helpdesk but they don't know anything really beyond the standard questions (at least not the last 3 times I tried).

Have you tried AEBPlus?
That requires me to run the program in the memory constantly doesn't it (and it's not freeware iirc)?

Yes, it does takes some resources, but it gives a lot more functionality and improves the phone greatly.
For example,
You could ingle press to forward/repeat songs or change channel in FM radio, and long press to change volume.
You could single press the green button to either do nothing or start your VOIP phone if you have one, and double press to run the regular phone. (this prevents accidental dialing the last number)
Double press the back key to close active application
etc.
Hmmm, it's a last option solution for me. It's more a matter of principle. When I buy a phone like this, I expect to be able to have access to all buttons, not just one. It's a bit stupid that I need to run an extra app to actually use my phone properly. I mean; didn't anyone at htc think that just having one button is stupid and then assigning it to the dial button is just braindead thinking?
Right, gave that program a go but it doesn't seem to be working for me.

That's because you're not familiar with how to use it yet, I think.
This is how yo use that software:
Say, you want to reassign the up volume button. First you might note that the initial defaultsetting is "do not touch button".
press and HOLD the up volume entry until
the screen for altering the setting appear.
Once that happens, the rest should be intuitively enough.
Remember later to save and exit. No need to soft reset.

[Q] Controlling your phone through the headset

Many topics have been around (and probably will be made) about the headset and how it can be better used. I've found several things;
To control your mortplayer with the headset button, you can use this application.
Then there's some applications like Cyberon v2.0 (only works for the stock headset, not bluetooth) and Microsoft Voice Commander, which you can activate through the headset, giving you even more control.
What I want is a hybrid application that has the best of all worlds. I'm willing to help develop it. What I'd need is one programmer (doesn't have to be very skilled) who can help me create the basics.
I'm thinking of creating an app that uses Microsoft VC to control the phone's functions, but with more than one function on the single button. For instance:
Single press - activate voice listening
Double press - Start music player
Press and hold 1 second - start/stop music
Press and hold 1 second and then press short - Next track
And perhaps more. The key here is that these functions would be configurable. through for instance a config app, or just the registry, people can choose what the different buttons do (launch an app, use one of above functions etc.)
Is anyone else interested in this / interested and capable of helping me make it so?
