Charmer will not boot unless connected to USB ?

Hi All,
I have a strange problem I wish to share (don't worry its with my Charmer !)
I am not sure when it started occuring, but now it will only boot with the USB connected. Without it I get a hangup on the 'Wondows Mobile' blue screen. Connect the USB and the version numbers on the T-Mobile boot screen come up much quicker and then after about 1 minute of the Windows blue screen it is on.
It is really weird ?
The onlys changes I have made is the registry memory improvements (mentioned in this forum) to try and get a little extra speed. I am pretty sure it did not start immediately after that though.
I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this
and if so
how did you overcome the problem.
Thanks.

Wizard Restarting - I'm sure not a big issue

Hi there,
I installed a bunch of stuff on the AKU3.2 Rom H-tec innov / O2 ROM which i found on the ftp and now when i soft-reset the phone, it either gets stuck (in windows) on Today, where it only loads like half of it and is consequently stuck or it resets again...
How would I be able to solve this issue having that it doesn't connect to ActiveSync?
Thanks a bunch,
John
OK let me clarify.... phone is totally unresponsive. I turn it on, HTC Innovation screen pops then the O2 with all the version, it loads windows and you can't really do anything but turn it off... or hard reset which doesn't help because the next time it loads, it just does the same thing...
What can I do

I take the battery out and wait a while and she starts sometimes again sometimes take a few attempts - Help any theories?
I have exactly the same problem with the blank white screen after the o2 splash.

Dead jamin

Hello all,
I have recently killed my Jamin. Im not sure whether it is permanent or not. Personally it looks like a rom failure with the video bois, but I am far from experienced with windows mobile#.
I have searched the forum and can not find anything similar.
(Story)
To cut a long story short, I picked up my Jamin while it was connected to my pc. Catching a gimps of WM5 and the battery fell out (while still connected to my vista pc). So it turns off and I put the battery back in and turned it back on.
(What does work)
This is kind of hard to explain, but from what gather, everything seems to be running fine except the screen. Basically it still syncs up (can access files) and the Bluetooth led turns on after a minutes or how ever long it takes
(Problem)
The problem is that the screen is doing something weird (This is the hard part to explain). I do not get anything out of it even the "htc" pic at the start.
It has these blue horizontal lines about a pixel wide running down the screen. They change like the screen is trying to display different things but it is as if it does not know how to use the screen.
Im thinking re-install the rom? But I do not want to make things harder for myself if I am wrong.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Tryed Flashing.
Well If anyone is interested, I tried Re flashing and I still get the same problem. My next PDA will not be an Imate, too many problems.

Removing/Disabling SnapVUE

I have searched and searched, but can't seem to find out if anyone has figured out a way to remove or disable SnapVUE completely.
I never use it, and I don't use the 3G modem so I don't need it at all.
It drains the battery and is annoying the hell out of me.
Is there any way to remove it, prevent it from starting or anything ?

Hmmm. I have always heard the other way.

I have always heard the other way of getting rid of Windows Vista and run more versatile SnapVue/Windows Mobile. You are the first one to ask kill SnapVue and 3G Modem. My sicere suggestion is get rid of Shift and buy a decent netbook or UMPC like Samsung Q1, ASUS R2H, RAON Everun etc. They all can run Vista and you can add broadband modem always, if you need one.
Thanks
Ram
In SnapVUE go to Settings > Power > Advanced
Here you can set the device to turn of if not used. Check both boxes and then set the wait time to 2 minutes. Then wait 2 minutes... SnapVUE will shutdown and will not come back unless you reset it in Vista.
Can be very weird knowing if you have turned Vista on after doing this though. A little jiggleing of the on/off slide button will do it. The SnapVUE button will return you to a blank SnapVUE (its blank because it is turned off) but will not return you to Vista - you'll have to jig with the on/off button.

If there was some way of selling my Shift for a decent price (compared to what I paid for it) then I would. However, selling it with $5-600 loss to buy a netbook doesn't make good economics too me. That is why I wanted to get rid of SnapVUE so it doesn't drain the battery, and I can actually use the damn thing as I intended, having it in my livingroom to do "quick surfing" etc.
Now, if I leave it unplugged for more than a few days, it is empty, and I have to plug it in and use it with the cable pluged in. then, the next time I want to use it again, I have unplugged it - and so the story goes.
A really expensive piece of sh*t is my oppinion

I tried this. After 2 minutes the screen goes blank. Great I thouht - but I wanted to check - so I press the SnapVUE button and hey presto - it re-appears instantly - i.e. it's still sitting there draining my battery as far as I can gather...
Any ideas ?
Don't know why in my case the power options got screwy. From memory I had just liberated it (again, from a restored ROM) and installed some GPS software.
When it did disappear for me it was truely gone. No amount of button pushing would bring it back. So, I think that it is possible to turn the SnapVUE side off completely - just don't know how to replicate it. Sorry.
Had another thought - change your power settings while the Vista side is powered down.
*Correction* does not matter what the Vista side is doing. You need to ensure the SnapVUE side is in flight mode. I found that the 3G polling was keeping it alive. Can turn off SnapVUE at will now. So to recap, in SnapVUE 1. set the power options to turn of after 2 minutes. 2. Use connection manager to put the phone into flight mode. 3.Wait. SnapVUE will turn off and render the SnapVUE button useless. To switch to Vista use the on button.
if you don't want to have the snap viw, so why did you buy it from the begining????
The idea of Shift is to have two operating systems
Windows mobile + using it as 3G modem in Vista vies
and the Vista operating system (touch screen goodies)
My advice to you is to sell it and don't complaint

it does not drain the battery... I have about 3 hours of use in Windows 7. I'm using snapvue only for call and gps... and I'm not sure that you will find any netbook being more interesting than the shift.
if you think that your snapvue drains the battery then try to make it the lightest as possible.. you can stop the display using pBar or psShutXP .. and sincerely, I don't see anything better than that.
the best in that, is that you can just switch to snapvue, without display and guess what... you can get about 4 hours of battery life for Win7 because snapvue save battery life...
I really don't understand comments like in this post !
Hello,
I have the same problem snapVue kill battery when is in suspended mode windows ! there are a way to exlude eprmanently ?
Thanks A lot
If you really want to get rid of SnapVue/WM side of your shift you may try to just disconnect it physically.
Take a look at Mike Channons Shift dismantling guide:
"10 Remove the 2 screws located
in the areas shown. They are
under the ribbon cable connecting
the hard drive to the motherboard.
Care is needed in this area. The
motherboard is in two sections,
one for the x86 side (intel
processor, GMA950 video, card
reader etc) and another for the
WM side.
The 2 parts are linked via a
connector that is secured by
those 2 screws. WHEN REASSEMBLING
CONNECTOR
MUST BE RE-ATTACHED
PROPERLY."
Take a look at this pic-
the connector is underneath your ssd.

I never tried it, but maybe...
But to be honest- i don't think it is necessary.
The IOO ROM i actually use has some "turn off device after not in use for x minutes" functionality.
One enticement to keep snapvue is to install a legally-purchased TextMaker to an old Windows Mobile phone, then copy that softmaker directory over to snapvue.
The IOO ROM will provide just enough memory to run TextMaker, which essentially gives you a full-fledged word processor that will run for 17+ hours. Not bad if you're stuck in an airport, etc.
A direct .cab install is not possible (that I've found) since the installation demands double the space of the .cab file.
