Dear all,
i installed windows mobile 6 on my wizard (Crossbow) and it is working fine.
Suddenly all programs in .cab extension do not install, i press the file and nothing happens. I applied a registry tweak before this happened that keeps .cab after installation as not to delete them. when i applied the first tweak it didn't work so i restored it back and applied the second tweak and it worked fine, any suugestions?
Also when i installed windows mobile 6 i can not find an account for MMS messages, why is that ?
Thanks

Hi everybody, wonder if someone can help me.
I have both a K-Jam (just received and love it) and a JASJAR (love 3G and VGA Screen, hate it's slowness, big time, k-jam is by far faster and therefore usable).
I've installed the same app's on both machines. Doing this I've noticed that on the JASJAR it just installs them with no problems, on the K-Jam everytime I install an app, it first asks me if I really want to install it since it does not have a recognised certificate (or something like that). I always say yes and the app install (and work correctly... aside from one, see below).
However, amongst the app's installed is Resco Explorer, together with the Resco Registry Editor app. When I try and start up the Reg App, i get a message that says that "the file ':RRegistry' cannot be opened. Either it's not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall this file". Well, I did try reinstalling it and the same problem persist (BTW Resco Explorer and its other plug-ins work correctly). I therefore assume it's got because of this "certificate" problem I mentioned above.
Is anyone else getting this message on installations and is anyone else having problems with Resco Registry Editor? If yes, has anyone found a solution to fix this problem (i.e. being able to use the reg editor app)?? Please help me... i really want/need to be able to modify the registry on the K-Jam.... Thanks in advance
you you install the new version on the website the wm2005 version all work fine, i have the same problem with the 2003 version of it. but works fine now
i do get the message when i install programs,
i have installed & used both resco explorer & reg edit without any problems?
they both work fine for me (used reg edit for tomtom nav 5)
Resco Registry
I have the same problem. My version of Resco Explorer is v5.35, which is the latest.
It was working fine before I updated my Dopod 818 pro ROM.
Any insight?
Thanks.
Same problem here with my Universal... Any help ?
Sorry for this stupid question but this is my third day of having a windows mobile 5 xda (the cingular 8125) and I'm having problems installing .cab files. I started with the "DJVW HTC Wizard Optimizer 2.0.cab". I moved the cab to the root directory of the device, tapped on it, and it went through the progress bar, told me that it had installed, but then when I went to look for the newly installed program, i couldn't find it anywhere. I also tried this with a few games and other apps. What am I doing wrong that it keeps telling me that it installed fine, but I can't find the programs. Thanks for your help in this.

You may have tried but have you used explorer to check if the files have installed under "Programs"? I've often seen cab files install but the shortcuts not get installed though the programs are there. If you find them then connect to your PC and use explore from Activesync, create shortcust and drop them in the windows\start menu folder.
Yeah, I have tried that... I even tried to a search for the files to no avail. Any other ideas? I really appriciate the help.
You've got me stumped. Personally I always drop the cabs on the SD card and install from there thats the only thing I can see different. Maybe it's a problem with dropping it in the root directory - have you tried dropping it under the programs folder and then installing?
correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't the wizard optimizer cab just tweak a few settings/registey values? a cab of this nature will not show up in your programs list because it isn't a program, it just changes stuff. this is normal, the same thing happened when i installed some camera tweaking cabs. so the cab has worked fine, done its job, there is nothing else you need to do.
My MDA Vario keeps giving me a cprog.exe error when entering the dialing screen.
any ideas?
What mods have you done to your phone? In particular have you installed a new dialer. Cprog.exe error as far as i am aware is a security policy error where you have incompatible software. Remove any software that may be causing this, but often you have to resort to a hard reset.
I did have the same error yesterday on my HTC Touch HD. The error started after installing HD tweak (version 0.5.4). I removed this tool and till now.... no error (fingers crossed).
Hopes this experience helps somebody in the future.
btw)) the HTC touch HD in a nice toy
Hi guys,
id have it too today because of replace the pim.vol file (contacts, calender ...)
i restore the file and its ok now
sup
i had like 8 errors today :S i haven't installed any program in past 14 days...i had just exchange server & that's all. is it possible that cprog.exe error appears coz of my last install of PHM reg edit program? (arroudn 14 days ago)
I found the solution.
Go to file explorer in the device cut and copy your 'pim'file into my document or delete it.then soft reset your phone. Another pim will be created automatically ,which will be blank one.you might lose your contacts and dial history.Back up your contacts before using this. After soft reset this will solve the problem
I have same problem , but I can't delete the pim file

use Total Commander to delete them
I fixed my HTC HD2 by this method. I was unable to delete the pim file, so I moved it to 'my documents' folder. Then I did a soft reset. Lo and behold a new pim file appeared where it belonged. I was now able to delete the old pim file from 'my documents' folder. Wham..the device worked like a charm again. Fast running on all apps and no 'cprog.exe' error messages or locking up. Thanks heaps.
I can't seem to figure out how people restore their apps, data, ActiveSync, etc. after updating their ROMs. It seems like people on this site replace their ROMs a few times a year at least, and with all the cleverness required to follow all the ROM issues, surely you can't all be manually re-installing every single app every time, etc. Are there some tools I don't know about that are useful for backing up/restoring files before/after ROM burn? Every backup program I see says you must not use it to restore after ROM update (which I understand, since you don't want to restore old versions of many key files). But surely someone could create a backup/restore app which knows which things should NOT be restored.
Thanks!
I do rom upgrades quite frequently, now I can have my device back with my settings and programs installed in around 10 minutes, here's what I did:
1)Install registry workshop on your desktop computer, this program allows you to remotely browse / export the registry on the PocketPC and compare current regitry settings on PocketPC with a previously dumped registry file.
2) Install RegDiff on your desktop computer, it allows you to generate .reg files out of two exported registry dumps done by registry workshop.
3) Spend a few hours going setting-by-setting and exporting the registry after changing each setting, compare and generate .reg file for that. Keep in mind that sometimes you need to power off the device for a while or soft reset for the registry setting to be permanently stored.
4) Once you have all the .reg files for your settings combine them in a single .reg file
5) Use WinCE Cab Manager to combine the cabs of all the programs you install, set the registry settings, and put shorcuts to all applications into the right places. This is the most "time consuming" part of the process.
Finally I end up with 2 big cab files:
- First one is around 9Mb which I install on pocketpc memory, this includes all today screen plugins, plus Net CF 2.1 and some registry settings (mostly WM5 settings and preferences from the today plugins)
- Second one is around 25Mb which i install on storage card, this includes all the other 3rd party apps I like and registry settings for those apps.
What I do after hard reset or rom upgrade: Install the two cab files, setup mail accounts and mms manually and use directpush to sync all my contacts and calendar items again.
The process of exporting all the registry settings is a PITA, but it is worth spending the time if you're going to switch roms frequently.
Look for an app called Sprite Backup.

Yup, Sprite is the easiest. Be warned, however, that it isn't able to restore PIM databases over the AKU3 upgrade. See my Backup Bible, where I;ve explained this all.
Wow, thanks. That's a lot of work to get things set up! Clearly worth it if you can re-install everything in 10 minutes, though.
I started to investigate your recommendations, installed Cab Manager, and see how you use that.
How do you get the cabs if the install isn't directly via cab? In other words, if the install is initiated via ActiveSync, then are the necessary cabs always found under the Program Files\ActiveSync directory?
As for Sprite Backup, it looks great, and maybe that would be enough for me for now. I wasn't clear (I did search through and skim the Backup Bible and the WM5 backup software comparisons but couldn't find exactly where it talked about the issue regarding AKU3) is the PIM issue a known bug? Or some limitation/problem related to new security or something?

If it's installed via activesync you can find them there, but generally what I do is extract the cab files from the exe using orange in Linux, don't know if there's a windows equivalent.
pof,
Don't know if you ever ActiveSync since you use Linux, but is there a way to NOT break your ActiveSync by upgrading your ROM? I thought I tried once, years ago, to set the device name back to the original name and ActiveSync still didn't recognize it as the old partnership.

If it doesn't recognize it, just delete the old partnership and recreate / reconfigure it . It's just some seconds.
Hi
I have this problem after install and reinstall some apps in order to get a simple program to do softresets in my Topaz (D2):
Every time I turn on my D2, and inmediatly after to input my pasword, it opens the menu asking me if I want to turn off my device (see screenshot).
I think one of the apps that I tested has made some changes in the registry, but I have no idea about where can I find these changes.
Someone can help me? maybe someone knows which part of the registry I must look to solve my problem...
Diamond 2
ROM 1.39.412.1 (ESN)
Windows Mobile 6.1
Manila: 2.0.37890.0
Solved: One of the apps installed a file called "ShutXP" in the "Windows/Start" folder. I deleted this file and it solved my problem.
Sorry for a stupid and auto-solved post
