SIM Card Read broken ? - Shift General

Hi,
after i change successfully my harddisk, I try to use
the Sim Card for the 3G Connection for the first Time Today.
I use this Sim Card normally in an Vodafone UMTS Card.
My Shift displays only the Message "Sim Karte fehlt"
I have have no Idea where the Problem is.
Can somebody help me.
Thank
Andreas

If you have replaced the 5mm height drive with a 8mm drive height you will be putting excess pressure on the SIM card socket. This could be causing a bad connection or maybe even damaged it completely.
Try replacing your old drive and see if that restores SIM socket function.
Please be aware that any modifications done by people on this Forum are NOT fully tested at this time and you do them at your own risk.
I fear you will not be the last person to suffer this problem.

Thank for your help.
I know that i do all modification on my own risk.
I open my shift again an I take a look on the read, the SIM Card is not fixed in der Read.
If i insert the SIM Card it sound like the Card is fixed, but if i release my finger it will be squeezed out again. I think that i have a Problem with the Metall tongue that should fix it in the read.
Is there anyony else how had that problem ?

MicroSD card slot

Hi
I took out the dummy SD card in the slot by the usual methods of gently pushing and it pops out, I then inserted (the correct way round) my new 2Gb card which sounded to click in place correctly although it is now stuck and doesnt pop out the same way the dummy one did (I did not apply any hard pressure). I presume this isnt how its supposed to work and the mechanism has faulted, has anyone else had this problem?

did you insert the microSD with contacts upside?
I had a similar problem when I first inserted a brand new A-Data 2GB MicroSD. But I've managed to take it back finally, gently pushing and popping it in and out. Then I've found superfluous plastic on the card, removed it, and since then there are no problems. So don't worry about the slot itself until you're sure it is broken
I am having the same problem. I am sure it is in there correctly, as I can access it. However, I can't get it OUT. HELP!!

If you put it the card in upside down it goes in crooked. If you force it you risk breaking the card.
If you push the card in all the way it clicks gently as it slips in then is retained. If you push the card gently with your fingernail it should go in slightly then pop out.
If you push it in and it goes in by a mm or so but doesn't pop out then something is holding it back. You can try with some needles or safety pins either side to try and ease the card out....
Good Luck. Scary when you've invested so much into these things when they break
HI,
I had / have the same problem with my new mda vario II. If you look under the battery next to the slot is a small white piece of plastic in a runner. If you gently push that outwards towards the edge of the phone the card will eject. Use a pin or a paper clip.
Could some explain where the excess plastic on the card is so i can fix my card.
Also i am using a Sandisk card if that make anydiff.

Dave,
You are a VERY SMART man! I really appreciate that. Mine is a 2gb SanDisk as well. I have a Cingular 8525. I had it in the correct way, and was able to use the card just fine. It bothered me that I could not get it out though. I really appreciate the response! Oh... I removed the made in Tiawan sticker on the back of the card to see if that would help. It did not, but did expose some copper looking stuff like at the end of the card. No big deal
Jeff
Dead SanDisk.
I also had the problem of a stuck 2Gb Sandisk card in a Vario II.
The card was displaying the same problems described in Legolas's card fix thread, (files disappearing or innaccessable) so I was going to check it on my PC.
Unfortunately, in the process of gently persuading it to come out, I appear to have completely killed it! (Unrecognisable in phone, PC or camera.)
I'm going to try painting the contacts on the card with silver paint in case they're not making contact, but I don't fancy digging inside the phone to bend the contacts there.
Any thoughts anyone?
In the meantime I'll wait and see if the 4Gb card is compatible with the Hermes before I order a replacement.
Is this a problem with Sandisk cards, I wonder? Had no problems at all with a 1Gb Kinston card... pop in a new Sandisk 2Gb, and sticks. Didn't shave off any plastic though, just caught hold of the groove on the edge with a fingernail and pulled on it enough to seat it into the proper 'inserted' position.
After inserting it in the slot a few times, it seems to click into place as it should
@dmj1973: Have you updated the Wiki with the info on ejecting a stuck card? Would be useful to have it there, if it isn't already

Excellent solution.
I've got a 2 gb SanDisk in a Vodafone 1605 with no insertion/removal problems.
(hee, in past life got quite adept at dismantling my iPaq 5555 to get stuck adapters out)

Hi guys,
Just a quick update. I had a further look at my card. I also removed the "made in Taiwan" sticker. My card ejects and inserts fine now.
Your right about the "contacts" being exposed, though i suspect this won't matter too much as they are covered again once they are inserted into the phone.
I don't believe this to be a problem only with sandisk cards but i may be wrong.
Dave
it seems that im a lucky dog because i have never got this problem with my softbank device and kingmax 1g tfcard.
anyhow thx the info upstairs
dmj1973 you saved my day!
today my transcent 16gb microsd arrived. i took the (kind of useless) 128mb out of my acer m900, and suddenly i wasnt able to get either of my micro sd's back into the device! it always jammed half way in ... drove me ****ing crazy thinking my new pda already broke :/ wasted the half day beeing mad until i found this thread! i red until "battery" ... then instantly removed the cover/battery etc, and my cards no longer jammed! -can get them in&out gently again thx 2 you!

after changing batery charmy dead

Hi everone, i have a big problem. I changed the SIM card in ma MDA compact 2 for a while, and then a gave my T-mobile sim card that i used usually and turned on the device. On the PIN code sreen it wrotes "INVALID SIM CARD"
what is the problem? i tried HR, new ROM. The sim is OK.
Please heeeeeeeeelp
this is realy strange. i see few possibilities:
1) sim card damaged by static electricity - the best case. Try another sim, if ok, tmobile will replace your sim for a small fee with the same number
2) damaged software inside device. this could also be repairable. try to flash latest official t-mobile rom, complete update with radio especially. imho german aku 3.3 is the latest
3) damaged hardware - hope this will not happen.
the best case wil be damaged sim card holder - this can be bought in every electricians shop, this is also the only part you can replace yourself (unless you are really well skilled electrotechnician)
otherwise, if circuits are damaged, just t-mobile or htc service is the possibility.
Try following step-by-step:
1) clean sim contacts with hard rubber, then clean with ethanol
2) check the sim card holder if pins are not bend or damaged. clean them with cotton and ethanol
3) check also board visible around sim card holder for scratches
4) discharge it completely, as much as possible
5) charge again to 100% (sometimes discharge-charge cycle helps with such strange cases)
6) flash latest tmobile branded rom
I have no further ideas except tmobile or htc service...
the holder is good because the O2 card is going in the MDA, only the T-mobile card wont start. And the T-mobile card is good a placed it into a K750 and it goes...
that's good, does not look to be hardware malfunction.
what about another tmobile sim?
isn't possible that you have accidentally sim-locked your device during some experiments? it will be good to try possible unlocking schemes (in fact, i'm not experienced in those lock things, others are...)
an another sim makes the same as my, INVALID SIM CARD. i think its locked on T-mobile what to do?
as i said, i'm not experienced with this. you may try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=250520
im happy, it goes, i gave a little piece of paper under the battery, and its good
:-D
nice. try to clean sim holder contacts and pull them a little bit upwards.

[SOLVED] No SIM card... Emergency Calls Only

For some reason that is beyond my comprehension my TAB has decided not to read my SIM card anymore.
I just flashed OC 3.0.1 Wipe, with the modified P1000N kernel the same as always this worked perfectly. I rebooted and lost 3G, I rebooted again and lost SIM card recognition.
I switched SIM's at home, SIM works on other phone, got a new SIM at work, same problem. Somebody suggested an /efs problem, but I reflashed everything from scratch and nothing changed.
Any other suggestion?
EDIT: Ok it's fixed. Bent SIM connector in the TAB I guess I'm lucky I have a service Center at work.
Good info, maybe someone else facing the same problem can use this info.

That's really worrying me. I've had this happen often myself, and wouldn't like to pull it apart to try and unbend the connector.
Wonder if there's an easier way to fix it, or at least work around it (though jamming some paper behind the other side of the SIM card will probably only make it worse eventually?) Don't know.

I have just came across this same problem, the tablet knows a sim card has been inserted, probably because of the spring mechanism, but it nevers asks for the Pin Code and always indicates No Sim Card.
Can anyone tell me how many "Connecters" are in the sim card slot. With a strong light I can barely make out 3 close to the entrance and possibly 4 connecters further in. ( Their placement is strange though as it appears that they wold not match up with the Sim Card ( I could be wring though).
I don't not want to try and pull the tablet apart and therefore I too would like to know if it might be possible to bend the connectors, does anyone have any idea how I might possibly proceed.
Cheers Roy

Hello.
My sim card tray has been stuck for a while now. After watching a few videos , I tried to solve the problem but with zero luck. I asked around some service centre and they say they will have to literally open my phone and remove the stuck sim card . If they try to remove the tray otherwise, chances are it will break.
The point is , I am not too confident about getting my phone sort of disassembled. I am worried doing so will affect the my phones performance.
Please from some one who know about this.. let me know what I should...
Thanks in advance ~

I had this issue and still do my eject dont work I have now broken probly 4 sim trays on s8 they are cheap as hell.
i use the tool in the hole and angle it and pry it out
But I but yours is broken inside,
Once I just finally ripped it out hoped for the best The sim stayed inside So with luck a toothpick and a dab of super glue I got it out as well....
I have been completely infuriated from since the first time my tray broke All over a samsung evo sd card which apparently has a slightly larger sim than most
But yea if none of the known ideas work in the end opening it up is the final solution

SIM card not found?

I have an issue with a SIM card recognition. I am on LineageOsS 19.1, I tried changing APN, using different SIM cards, back to stock (same problem), resetting phone with no results. Do you think is it a hardware problem? IMEI and phone number are recognized as you can see on screenshots, so maybe there is an issue with software? Any help much appreciated.
Do you stll have the little white (cardboard?) tray in yours? I think that tray helps put pressure on the sim card.
Also try using a paper clip or something to push the sim card in a little further.. I once had some kind of issue where i guess a black cover fell off the covering door.. and i had a similiar issue.. i eventually figured it out and did this... actually i think if ound the door and pushed it on again..
or maybe teh white tray is in there blocking it and you need to pull it out ?
i think it's something like one of those issues and you can get it working again.
you might even try adding something to make the sim card a little thicker if you don't have the white tray thing.
