I'm thinking about installing this new one. Has anyone done it? Have any thoughts yet? I'm kind of disappointed they removed AIM from there. Nice to have that in ROM. Saves some storage memory.
Anyway, if anyone has any reports on stability, etc, let's hear it.
Also, does this one come with another radio stack?
seems ok
seems ok for now. no radio in the distribution we got (only nbf ).
from my poin of view it's wiser without aim because i can stick up more content suited to my needs.
no stability problems (though only 8 hours )

FYI
The hard reset after bootloader mode has been fixed if you want to count that, its a big plus in my book. 8)
It doesn't appear to be fixed, at least for me. Hard reset after bootlader is still exist.
I thought about upgrading to the new one, but everything's working just fine under 4.0.0.16, so maybe I'll stick with whats working for now.
Then I won't have to reinstall all my apps.

Why not just do a full backup, upgrade, and then just do a restore
Restoring from a backup after a ROM upgrade is not a good idea, because the older files will override the newer ones in-turn causing you all kinds of trouble.

Sorry to hear that mine is still holding strong with no hard setting, call me lucky I guess!
BTW anybody else not getting the hard reset after going onto the bootloader?
Hi All, i cooked up a .16 ROM in Jeff's Kitchen (thanks Jeff you are a legend).
Only 1 new problem with my device, it's the backlight....seems to turn off after the timeout even when i'm using my device.....strange. Never had this problem before.
I've also noticed that my problem with contacts not opening and having to sort reset the phone to resolve the problem is still evident. This has been with 4.00.01, .05 & now .16
Anyone got the above problems with .21????? I'm going to wait to upgrade, from what i can see the changes in the .?? releases are vendor apps etc.
Cheers
Steve
PS - i was brave and cooked up an exe install, it worked just fine.

The problems I've been noticing since this upgrade are slowness, the occasional freezing, and loss of signal (more so than before). I might try re-installing to see if this helps at all.

After having no problems since Friday, I noticed the same issues happening to me last night...
The backlight turning off on me while I'm using it...a soft-reset solves it.
Other apps freezing resulting in me to do a soft reset.
I never had these problems w/.16, so I'm considering switching back; however, seeing Ronin's post:
I spent about 3 hours with a Microsoft Windows Mobile developer( from Microsoft) and he explained that our suspicions on Themes and hardware and SD resets are correct.
The versions of our T-Mobile and X2 WM 2003 were provided to T-Mobile in the early part of February. The OEMs worked on their versions to incorporate their unique "features" and there is a conflict in the way WM2003 Phone edition addresses memory calls (to ROM or SD cards)and WM2003 function.
The memory calls are typically made once a Theme switch is made. Remeber themes not only change Today's screen, but all other colors in the apps. Somehow, our WM PE overrides the memory allocation on the SD cards, renaming them and causing our erasures. This will sometimes happen when we get an SMS or have a custom ring or sound profile installed or after a soft reset.
So no solution for the issue other than " the lock" button. The default theme is a good alternative, but I suspect we will still have some more erasures related to this memory addressing issue.
Furthermore, it is unlikely that T-Mobile or other OEMs will fix the issue on their own volition...They are having many challenges with stable stacks and custom builds!!!

strange, i started developing problems with .21 yesturday too!
first the internet kept getting disconnected, i thought it was the GPS cozin it. but then at night the backlight started acting up. even when im using the device. a note on that tho, if i play movie clips, the light stayed on! it was a 12 minute clip, it stayed on the whole time, once it was over, light turned off.
also, i notice the gprs internet is extremly slower than b4
i must say, the ONLY thing i like about 2003 is the media player, it has better video rendering, i wish they made it installble on 2002
nothin wrong with that version. heh

I'm with you on the media player AND the slow GPRS...it's r-e-a-l slow. I wasn't sure if it was worth mentioning but your account of it confirms it for me.
great!
I updated to 4.0021. T-Mobile device bought in USA. I live in Europe.
Now I have band switcher, good GPRS connection (no breaks), auto-response.
One problem: some web page said me "you cannot open this page because your browser does not use cookies. please...." blablabla
?
I see this meeasge first time, previously PIE did it (shown) ok. I checked settings of PIE, cookies are running. Any ideas?
You know what, I've just done some connection tests at www.texan.net/speed.htm and I'm currently getting the following connection rates:
81.5kbps, 104kbps, 81.6kbps
I get these readings by going to that URL, and in a 10 minute period I would run a test twice at the beginning, then twice again on the 5th minute, and two more times on the 10th minute, using the 2nd reading each time (in order to get the reading with a cleared cache).
- with these speeds (I'm used to similar readings on my other WM2k3 PPCs and connecting via Sprint's CF2031) pages come up so quick, but on my T-Mobile MDA, running WM2k3 v4.00.21, w/RS6.24, plus my new 64MB onboard RAM from PPCTechs.com and 3 bars on the meter, pages are rendering much s-l-o-w-e-r than what they should.
Going back to either 4.00.16 or even 2k2 is starting to look even better right about now.
Since I upgraded to .21 I do not receive all my calls and do not getting some SMS messages.
I'm testing it until friday and if it keeps this way i'm going back this weekend to .16 which was very very stable and I liked very much.
hello i have the tmobile dash 3g and the phone keeps on freezing up when trying to go into and out of a text msg and the main screen will be blank when i turn the phone on from standby and the time will take awile to update to correct time. it has the tmobile rom latest 6.5 from there web site i have hard reset a 2 times and reflashed it a 2 times to no help.
any body know of this problem. the wife is about to run the phone over. she was using a blackjack 2 and its a slower device compared to the dash 3g but lol the dash is dog slow and takes forever to open close texts and the blackjack never had this problem. so i can only think this is something to do with htc. please anybody
nobody knows why, please the bigest problem is the text app takes forever to load or close,.
are there any custom apps that does not have this problem.
ok i just hard spl the phone and put back the phone to tmobile's 6.1 rom on and all issues are gone.
just a quick ? is all the 6.5 versions for the maple have the slow text msg problem where it takes forever to open or close.
Yay
Seems to me like nobody gives a shizz about the Snap 3G anymore... Anyhow I currently have this problem, which I never had on my old S620 and it is really annoying, hopefully I'll be upgrading to an HD2 in about two weeks...
So you just installed an old version of windows and trouble gone? I'm thinking about doing this... I'm running a 3Evo Series ROM and I really cant stand this...

No kiddin?!? I have 4 HTC phones. A Touch, TP, TP2, and a snap. (HTC fan) all with sprint. I can ask questions, and get answer for all the other phones even the touch. However, this phone seems to be dead. Don't know why? It's a great phone with good speed, graphics and whatnot.
Its a shame.
If you ever get despite go over to ppgeeks. they have a general "smartphone" category that some still view and reply to.
I have the T-Mobile Dash 3G with WM6.5. I don't have any slow down opening texts. I am relatively new to this phone and operating system but it sounds like a free memory issue. Since the OP said he has hard reset the phone, I would think that the temp folders have been emptied by default. Are there a lot of messages being loaded up from a remote server that could be taking up a lot of your phone's memory?
The only other thing I can think of is that there is a background program taking up a lot of memory that is only installed with 6.5 and not 6.1.
I was on the phone with T-Mobile Support (611), regarding my HD2 and the issues that I am still having with this device. The rep. stated that T-Mobile is aware of the issues on the phone and that the 1st ROM update did not resolve them all and caused some new ones.
She stated specifically this new update would resolve the issue of the device hanging after you try to wake up the phone...also, the "unreliable data connection" issue is still prevalent (I still have this problem - and I have tried everything I can think of or read about). She stated that there are other fixes that they are working on to resolve with this new update.
I could not get a solid time frame, but she stated that it should be pretty quick, given that they issued the first one within a short time frame after the HD2 release.
Now, I'm not sure if this means an upgrade from 6.5 to 6.5.3, but I wouldn't count on it. I just hope it is released soon. This device is so nice and so awful at the same time. Constantly I experience little nagging issues that make using this device such a hassle.
Have you tried just flashing it to one of these custom ROMs?
No I have not yet tried the custom ROM yet on the HD2. I like the way the T-Mobile ROM are, I just am getting fed up with the "unreliable data connection" BS. Also, the phone (since the ROM update) has been running slow and I don't think that is acceptable with the 1GHz snapdragon on this device. My only other issue is that the speaker phone stops working because T-Mobile added some stupid software to the device. If you dial 611, the software pops up and tries to solve your problem via webpage and stops the speaker phone from working till you restart the device.
While that is a short list of issues, they are major issues in using the device. But I think i will wait till this 2nd update comes out...if it does not resolve my issues, custom ROM here I come!
I belive flashing NRG will solve your issues It did mine.
Which issue did it solve? The data connection issue?
Data and freezing as well not to mention the phone just flies now. flashing a new radio fixed reception issue
well I will give it a try and see if it resolves my issues as well. I figure we have about a month or so before T-mobile releases the 2nd update. I know I will not be able to last that long with these issues. It is just a pain in the a-- to flash ROMs every day...I'm not into doing it all the time. I would like to find a good stable ROM and run with it. It just takes too much time flashing and reinstalling all those programs and changing the settings to where I like them all (too much work).
Like I said it is a shame, i really like this device on paper, but in the real world is just has some serious issues. I thought i would get a year or two out of this device when i bought it, now I am already looking to swap this puppy out. I'm looking to see what is coming down the pipeline. I refuse to go with WP7 (feels like the step backwards with it limitations as compared to WM6.5 - and i don't want a device that clones the iPhone of 4 years ago)
Anyone other suggestion on custom ROMs?
NRG 21911 is very solid and you don't have to flash everyday it has xda uc and pim backup witch will back up and reinstall all your software I did it yesterday in about 20 min. I refrain from flashing during the week. the the first time it will take about an hour just read all you can on it. 670megs free space on device 13gigs on sd and 300 megs of free RAM
I'm downloading the 23121 Cookie Dinik Glass version right now...I'll let you know how it works on my device. thanks for pointing me in this direction, appreciate it!
tmobile rep told me the same thing after I had a warranty exchange, she said to expect the update soon as there are alot of people experiencing problems with the current software. Although to be honest after running Android on my HD2 I dont think I ever want to use winmo again.
are you getting everything to work with Android? i did not think they have a fully functional Android ROM for the HD2 yet
They're all the same...
My biggest complaint is the bad data connection. Paying too much money for crappy connection. I can't even get connection in my lower level of my house. I think every carrier and cell phones all have their own problems. My two co-workers, one with Droid and the other iPhone have similar problems. Droid keeps freezing 2 warranty phone exchanges so far and iPhone looses connection frequently. iPhone guy wishes his would freeze so he could get a replacement. So it's not just me.
Help me please
So i tried to install android, and on gthe web it said i needed to install hpsl well my phone had it set to 2.10 they stated i needed 2.08 or earlier so i did it but the install still didn't work !!! How can i return my phone back to 2.10 and still get my warranty back
android fo real?

i read on pocetnow that android is being worked on on xda. seen a couple of post too, but there is always some component not really working. is there an official android post where all the kinks are worked out? i would like to switch if thats the case. thanks.
Wow is all I can say about that NRG ROM....it is great! does everything I have been looking for, no data connection issues since last night (I'll report back on this issue as time goes by). It's fast and very stable (so far, but hell I'm impressed), and I did not even use most stable version the 21911.
The UI is great, I love the three pages of app slot, everything is within one or two finger stokes this way. It also gets rid of the apps that I don't want (ie TelNav, etc...) but keeps most of the apps that I do want...I can always install cabs for the programs I want from the official ROM. Plus it has cooked into it all those sweet tweaks and settings. Great work, I'm not even waiting for T-mobile to release the 2nd update any longer.
Thanks gtrplr71 again for suggesting this custom ROM, it's so nice, I don’t even think I will be trying out any other ROMs.
I would not get hopes up of a 6.5.3 upgrade. Could you imagine the Technical support nightmare if they had to troubleshoot 2 different OS versions?
This is one reason I think Android and Linux will really take off in the future.

There's a HD2 Android section in the original HD2 area (euro hd2 section).... but it is a work in progress. There are still a lot of issues and kinks. It will be a while before it works as well as a native android phone. But the progress they've made is unbelievable. It's great having both winmo and android on my phone.

your welcome don't forget to make a backup with pim backup to your sd card and use xda uc once you get things settled. Have fun!
how does the xda uc work? i could not figure that out, when I ran the app it stated that i did not have that file on my storage card...but it appeared there somehow.
Also, the incall record does not seem to work at all. when i lauch it (after I connect or before I connect a call) all I get is a blank lined page (note pad page).
And, is there a list of the added and removed apps somewhere? I could not find it in the ROM thread.
As for the 6.5.3 upgrade from T-Mobile, i don't think it will happen either and right now, after trying the NRG ROM...I don't care. I'm not even going to try the T-mobile 2nd ROM upgrade. Now with Android comes along on the HD2 (fully functional) then i will surely set up a dual boot situation on my HD2. That is like the best of both world.
(xda uc)-you wont notice anything different It will run and monitor the phone for new settings when you decide to flash a new build it will auto run and import settings and apps.

From
Sprint Forums
Some are not seeing it available to download yet. I just tried and see it but 1st attempt it was corrupted, LOL.
2nd was successful and it is currently verifying package
It just keeps getting corrupt, good'ol sprint for ya!
Currently tried downloading it 30 times via network corrupt each time
Tried via wifi and it does not see a update
wish they would allow it other than OTA
Will it break root?
And i'm guessing it will remove any dialer modifications flashed such as no haptic feedback
can't the damn thing to download with out being corrupt. So only time will tell.
If and finally when I get it installed I will let you know about the root question.
man i hope this fixes my bluetooth pairing issues with 2.1...
hopefully if it breaks root someone can strip on that part and just post the rest of it like the one time before.
I've grown very skeptical toward any "update" from Sprint/HTC/SenseUI.
I've given up on the SenseUI platform and believe that the Hero is simply just too underpowered to run Sense effectively. I hated all the lagging and long pauses.
Now, however, running CM6 with the 9/7 nightly and Darc's #14 kernel and I couldn't be happier. My phone zips along quite nicely.
The ONLY thing I miss about SenseUI is the browser. Anybody know of a decent replacement that can do pinch/zoom as well?

i bought a used hero from craigslist on Sunday and it had android 1.5 so I hit htc.com and downloaded this update then and flashed it over. I guess there is no root for this version then. I have an evo rooted to 2.2, the hero is for my kid with hopes of using 2.0.5 pre7 wifi router for him to link his laptop to. Haven't turned phone on for sprint yet working way to much. (called sprint before i paid for it esn is clean)
It says....
Update your software
To update your Hero over the air:
Go to All Applications
Tap Settings > About Phone > System Updates > HTC Software Update

Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the update
Sprint said the Following....
You may not yet have the update for a couple of reasons:
- The software update may not yet be loaded to the servers
- The software update may be released in batches or stages where not all phones will receive it at the same time.
If you are not seeing the update, please be patient and it should be available soon.
Not able to see the update. It says my phone is upto date (even it is not). I understand the updates might not be there for me yet.
I have rooted my phone and removed some sprint bloatware and htc bloatware.
I have not put any custom rom in my phone yet.
I am a little bit nervous to update my phone. Cause I dont know what the update is all about.

The update is making its way through...I've been checking for it for the last two days...however today 9/24....I checked for the update and this morning at 6:15am the update was available.
The update fixes:
Slow response Phone Dialer
GPS Reboot (<-- I have never experienced this problem)
After the download of the update is complete the installation takes about 5-8 minutes or so...once the phone reboots and after you've agreed to install the update...the phone hangs for a bit on the Sprint Now splash screen....I was a little worried at first but I just let it sit....the phone will continue to boot after 2-3 minutes then you will see the HTC white splash screen for another minute or two and finally it will indicate the update was successfully updated.
I was aware of the slow response with the phone dialer and after the update you notice a difference...however I never had a GPS Reboot issue..but still happy they fixed what ever issue they found.
This may just be me...but after the update my phone seems a bit more responsive over all. But again...this could be just me.
Totally agree, finally pulled the CM6 trigger this week as my phone was at risk of being flung on several occasions. Can't believe I ever waited around for Sprint to fix anything, CM flies (but does not get flung!)
I'm still debating about CM6...I brought my HTC hero back in March-April due to my old phone dying....unfortunately the HTC EVO was still about 2-3 months away so I really had no choice...it was either the Hero or the Moment...I chose the Hero since it was a better phone in my opinion.
I am however upset that Sprint has given up on this phone so quickly...I'm still a little hesitant of rooting my phone and voiding my warranty. I've started to read up on rooting and CM6 a little bit as I am a bit curious of CM6.
Am I right to say that if I don't like CM6 I can revert back to stock rom and Sprint will not being able to tell...just in case I have to take my phone back at any point in time?
Also I've heard of Unrevoked and the fact that you can root you phone by just using this app....I've seen some threads that look extensive at how to root your phone...so if this "one-click" app works...can this be applied to the overall process of getting CM6 installed?
While I don't mind using Sprint Navigation or UI Sense....that is really the only apps I would like to be able to use....all other sprint apps..such as Sprint Football and Nascar I don't care about....If I get CM6 installed can Sprint Navigation be reinstalled?
Now that sprint pushed out a new update out there...will procedures have to change to install CM6 or rooting due to this new update??
I guess just a few questions..like I said..I'm curious about CM6 but have yet to decide if I really want to get CM6 installed...any feedback would be great.
Thanks!!!
I down loaded the update but it won't install, my phone is rooted with the one click app so that might be why it won't install
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
All, I just repeated my flashing of the last official upgrade posted on Oct 19th 2010 for the HD2 in the HTC web page, Support area. It makes the unit go TERRIBLY SLOW ALL THE TIMES!!, the memory consumption can arrive up to 90% with NO APPLICATION OPEN!!!!!!!! IT IS A DISASTER!! I think that if HTC see a forum here it will pay attention and remove that upgrade from web page. At least for the Chezck region. The phone said it had an amount of memory free when you installed programs, but when you went to see the value in the About area, the numbers were very different. I just moved back to the previous version.
you have hspl installed still, would be my guess.
if not, do a hard reset and start over. perhaps even flash it again.
Sir 90% of the problems on the latest stock Rom 3.14, isn't the fold of Device/Rom
But the user!
Stock Rom 3.14 isn't compatible with HSPL.
Is this a problem of HTC??? No!!!
Because this is a product create by users not support by HTC.
I've been using it for2 wks and I find it extremely stable and very fast. So except for some bugs n issues that I've already reported to HTC hoping for a hotfix soon (lack of slide down menu and inability to use other phone features during a phone call, poor radio reach/higher battery drain being a couple of ones that bother me the most), it's worth giving it a try if you want a speedy and crash free experience for a while.
Btw, in my case, the upgrade was from stock ROM 1.66, and no HSPL/cooked Roms ever installed.

Hi mandel4026,
I wonder why do you doubt the 'Tethering' option in the HTC official ROM upgrade.
The HTC website mentions:
'Tethering:
* Internet Sharing through USB or Bluetooth
* Wi-Fi Router'
as it's specification. I believe that they wouldn't turn-off the feature this ways through a ROM upgrade.
mandel is worried that he thinks since tmobile will charge seperately for tethering now, the new rom upgrade for tmobile will have the function bundled to tmobile applications and not as default in device tools like in roms elsewhere outside the US...i think it may not be the case, mandel

I have updated to 3.4 and on the whole it works great but I also have the issue that in a call there is no slide down menu as in the prvious and none of the functions work - not even bringing up the keypad or putting it on speaker!!
Has anybody found a fix for this or do we need to wait for a hotfix from HTC??

slide down menu in call can be shown/hidden by using bsb tweaks

phone screens work perfectly for me, speaker buttons and keypad much easier to access without that slide down panel
just installed it....will see how slow it is

Ho! that's really stable then
Minor issues, who wants to use the phone features or bother about radio or battery efficiency??
I see that the HTC support are still doing good...
PS: do yourself a favor, replace their "romgarbage" and try some on this forum.
I had Artemis 29 for months with nearly no issues. It also solved all HTC rom issue I had!

you have hspl installed still, would be my guess.
if not, do a hard reset and start over. perhaps even flash it again.

hi guys, i have the same problem with memory and another strange problem is, i cannot install some of my medical programs. Is there anyway to restore the old HSPL? or any other solution. I tested some of the customized and they were unstable, so i prefer to use the stock rom? so any solution for HSPL restoring?

Ok, I gotta admit I use another phone for calls usually, son HD2 isn't my primary phone for that matter.
I'm still on the fence about cooked Roms, I believe they aren't bug free either and besides, I'm worried about software conflicts (?), so I'm not sure. Not to mention all the hassle if ever needed to revert to stock roms. I guess a bit of 'bricking' phobia too.
