I upgraded with a cooked rom, and want to know how to make new folders or catagories in the "programs" folder off of the start menu. For instance, I used the "create misc folder" from stephans kitchen and would like to create additional folders, such as office and accessories inside the programs folder.
If I create or copy the items/folders I want into the //windows/programs dir, nothing appears when I open progs folder off the start menue.
I have them on the start menu as items to launch, but would also like them to appear in the "programs" link off the start menu.
Any ideas?????
so you want folders in the start bar like in windows ?
or do you just want dirs in your program files dialog when you open it ?
i recall some program which made the start bar work like it does in windows and it was pure agony to use
You need to create your folders under //Windows/Start Menu/ these will then be displayed on your start menu.
I'm an idiot.
Ignore this thread.
But thank you for the help, you made me look a little differently, and I saw the err of my ways!(I only put my custom folders into the start menu, not into the start menu/programs/ dir)
Hi I am trying to install sqlce3.5 on a rom which dosen't have cf2.0 (cabs don't work) so I was thinking of manually copying the dll files to the windows folder to see what happens but I cant figure out how to access the windows folder from my pc (windows 7 RC if that matters) any ideas?
Via active sync choose the 'explore' options under 'tools' then a window will pop up. The default directory will be your documents folder what you need to do is go up one directory which will then be your device's root folder. Then from there you'll see the windows folder.
on windows 7 you have to use device manager and when i choose browse device it take to me choose either phone memory or memory card, if i choose phones memory the windows folder is not present and it cannot be seen even if i choose show hidden folders.
any ideas?
After device has sync'ed with pc, just open up your file explorer on your pc. Open 'My Computer' and then scroll down to 'Mobile Device'. If you expand this you should be presented with a list. Open 'My Windows Mobile-Based Device' and scroll down to 'Windows'
Thats the problem I am having I can get to the root just fine but when I am there the windows folder is not present like it is hidden, using view hidden folders dosen't help and typing in the path gets an error message saying it does not exist. I wanted to do this through windows but i suppose I will have to do it through the phones browser instead.

Open your file explorer on your pc, go to Tools > Folder Options > View and make sure 'Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)' is unticked
Other than this I'm not sure why its not showing

I am trying to put a shortcut in Start menu on the device while conected via active sync with Windows Mobile Device Centre but the windows folder does not show up. Can someone tell me how to get to windows folder please.
MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL.......
no one know?
You will need to show all hidden files and folders and all protected OS files on your PC. You can do this in the Organise>Folders and Search options (in windows 7) In Vista i cant remember off hand.
Merry Xmas
I noticed exactly the same thing today! I don't know how to solve this or if it can be solved
But don't worry, you are not the only person. I can only view the windows folder from the device file explorer
I have exactly the same problem. I need access to this folder to do some cleaning up. The chore is too cumbursome on the phone. I really need to know how to access this folder on my computer. Anyone?
Open up file explorer on your pc, and browse to your phones windows folder, then press alt, and a set of menus will appear along the top of the window, click tools - folder options - move to the 'view' tab, scroll down the list and check 'show hidden files folders and drives', then scroll a little further and untick hide protected operating system files.
The phones windows folder should then be visible.

My Savior!!!
Thanks 1.000.000!!!
Hey,
I'm having trouble accessing the Windows folder of my device when browsing via my pc. When I browse using WMDC file explorer I cant see the Windows folder. Is there a way to access it?
-Thanks
on your PC - open file manager, press alt - t. This should bring up the tools menu, choose folder options, switch to 'view' tab, scroll down,
Tick 'show hidden files and folders'
scroll
untick 'hide protected operating system files'
click apply(bottom), then click 'apply to folders'(top)
Thanks a lot
no problem.
When you do browse the windows folder on the phone from the pc, dont be surprised that it takes quite a while to populate the file list, it isn't your phone, its a known issue of winmo. Personally i find it easier to use filemanager on the phone (well, resco, ) and copy files to and from the windows folder from there, and use the pc file manager just to copy to other folders and the sd card.
I am trying to add the AudioManager_Eng.exe file to speed up the music boot process. I have been looking and cannot find the windows/startup folder. I included a print screen of what i see.

You need to set your pc to show hidden files. Go to control panel and in folder options under view you can set to show hidden files
you also need to show protected operating system files, not just hidden files.
From the window in your screenshot, press alt and when the menus come up at the top, click tools - folder options - view tab - scroll down, select show hidden files and folders
scroll down a little more, untick hide protected operating system files.
Whilst you're there, make sure 'hide file extensions for known file types is UNticked.
Oh okay thanks guys. I selected the show hidden files option and still didnt see the folder. Now i will try Sams' suggestion and hopefully it works.
Thanks again your guys have been a big help to me thus far!
