so i have an 8525 and it is run on tmo usa..... should I be getting an e for edge when i am in that area? I read somewhere I should get E for edge and a G for gprs when not in edge area..... If this is the case it seems I am always stuck on gprs... any fixes if thats how its supposed to work?
U should be getting E when on edge...could be your icon says G but U'r really on edge? Some Roms are missing the E. U can try this cab or another rom if u like...
well i had the icon in the rom.... I ended up upgrading the radio to 1.47 and now I have edge.... yea!!!!! apparently stock radio from att wasnt letting me have tmobile edge!!!

I was wondering, since the universal is the only other htc phone to do UMTS right now. Does the regular edge/gprs icon reg hack work? If not, has anyone figured a way for it to happen? Thanks.

urrm? the universal does it out of the box, no hack needed.... i get U for umts and G for gprs
But do you get an E for edge? On the wizard there is a registry hack to make the universal display a G for GPRS and an E for EDGE.

the universal doesn't have edge.

yes it is too bad but i dont miss it much, 3g is available where i live
btw a lot of plain phones have only either edge or 3g, rarely both... sigh
ok so i updated new mda us to offical rom 2.26 that tmo has on website and it showed an E for edge all the time ok fine
now when i did a hardreset it nolonger showed the E icon for egde just G
i went ahead and reinstalled update and still showed G i check the registry and it shows EnableDIfferGprsEdgeIcon as a value of 0 why did it change and why does it not show E anyone can help

After my friend did the update, he had an E.
When I did the update, I had a G, and had to manually set the E in the registry, haha.
I guess it's just funky Windows-ness.
i agree i spoke to tmo data tech support and told them that the tweak sometimes does not hold they refused to realize this problem as after i did 4 updates with same rom i went into reg with total commander and it still showed value of 0 so i did what u did change it to 1 and vola E for edge thanx for replay

A faster data connection than your standard GPRS. Need a phone that supports it, but the Wizard does, so yeah. ^_^
EDGE is always on be default, but not all areas have EDGE. Where I live in the middle of Alabama, there's no EDGE, but where I work, Huntsville, my icon changes from a G to an E.
I just downloaded vp3g's wm6 2.0 and where I used to get EDGE coverage, I don't. The speed tests say otherwise, but the icon is still G and I would like for it to be the E. I already tried the registry, and it is enabled there. I am currently on at&t if that helps. Thanks in advance everyone.

I am now getting H and R, even though in the same place I used to get a 3G connection.
H is fine I can do everything, but when I am on R I get no internet.

H is HSPDA and R is roaming i believe. HSPDA is the 7mbps speed, so its equivilant to wifi speeds assuming you have an 8+mb line.
I've only encountered those speeds once when I was at the Atlanta airport waiting for my connection to Florida.

So I should assume that HSDPA is my 3G connection.
I should have thought of that roaming.
In Aus with telstra I should be hitting 7mbps no probs in the cities with Telstra. Strange about roaming though I have never needed to roam before on anyphone before this update.

If you have no data connection while roaming go into your Setting>Wireless Controls >Mobile Networks then enable Data Roaming ONLY if you dont get charged for it. In the US, T-Mobile doesn't charge for data roaming as long as you're inside the country.

itt was mentioned in the 4million page thread of haykuros previous builds. H means same as 3G in this case- HTC just use H instead of 3G. and yes sometimes the search fxn sux. maybe not a new thread for it but ask in the thread about the actual build.
to replace you need to open update with 7zip, replace the H icons with 3G icons from another build (H icons i think are in system-framework-htcresources.apk if i remember correctly- from old haykuro build- i dont have new one). make sure the 3G icons have same name as wht the H ones did. close update, resign zip and you are right to go and flash it.

Thanks for that mate, it ok I dont mind it being a H as long as I know it is running on the 3G connection.
Hummm... you can do that but you guys are forgetting something. The H build shows G (GPRS), E (EDGE), 3G (UMTS), and H (HSPDA/HSUPA) icons. You could just copy the icons from system/framework/com.htc.rescources.apk/res/drawable and replace the ones in system/framework/framework.res.apk/res/drawable but they would be inaccurate. It would display a H icon where you might actually have UMTS connection. I wish I knew what else should be replaced (probably an extra script or lib file would be also be needed to include all 4 icons from H build.
this might souds stupid to u guys but i hate it,ma pda started showing an E edge icon when im in umts coverage,i can make video call download at fast speed,the icon stays,when im out of 3g coverage it turns to a G then it download very slow,i downloaded ship rom and flashed it then the U returned,now its there again any help to get ma u back,i would be thankfull coz its buging me out,i searched already nothin
