alright so I'm new to this, but I followed the instructions to hardspl, and got up to the point where i had 4.70yang as my spl, and was going to flash through SD. it wouldnt read the SD card, and i tried formatting it in FAT32, with the allocation unit size to 4096, and when that didnt work, i tried other variations. Then I figured I'd try flashing the other way, but couldnt do it because i couldnt get a sync with the computer. I didnt know whether to go into the actual canonyang ROM, but anyway I did, and if I connect the USB cable, nothing happens, no activesync. i tried the bootloader screen, no USB connection. every other alternative i saw, removing the hardspl, flashing otherways, etc etc i cant do without a USB connection. im not sure if i did anything wrong, im convinced i didnt. im hoping the solution is really simple, cause i cant get activesync to work.. im really frustrated, lol. if anyone could offer solutions, that would be amazing.

Please keep all non-development posts off the development forum.
As far as your problem goes:
Activesync won't connect per say in SPL mode but it should still let you flash. In SPL mode, there is no syncing so the icon never turns green but it still works just fine. As far as working with the SD card, the SD card cannot be a SDHC card. The SPL doesn't have a SDHC driver.
Try a smaller SD card (2GB's or less since they are usually non-SDHC) or flash through SPL even though activesync doesn't show as connected.
sorry about posting it in the wrong place. where should i have posted? and thank you for replying
and what IS the SPL mode? what screen should i be seeing? cause if i let it load then it just goes to the regular phone screen as if im on an actual OS, and sync doesnt work there. and yes im using a 2gb SD card, not SDHC.

Ok, make sure you followed these SD Flashing instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581996
It should work. And also, please read up on the terms, and that will help you understand everything.
And what Ivan was referring to, about flashing without ActiveSync connected....put your phone into the bootloader, connect USB, wait one minute, and then attempt to flash. Tell me if you did EVERYTHING in the first paragraph's link first, though.
OK. I see what the problem is. You're in the OS but the OS is the stripped OS.
Hold down your camera button and then press the soft reset button. Then you'll be in SPL mode. From there you can flash anything you want.
hey thanks for the help ive flashed a ROM or two using flash center so thats working fine i got past that. but im still trying to flash through SD. it wont read my card still after formatting it to FAT32 and putting the HERAIMG.nbh file. i read on another post that the nbh version number could be a factor? how would i go about messing around with that?
As I mentioned: Is your SD card a SDHC card? If it is, it won't work. The NBH version is set by the cook and if it works with the flash center then it works with the SD card. Any ROM created for flashing through SD card is made with the correct numbers.
Hey Ivan
I'm new here and i've flashed several ROMS via RUU, so far the Glass one is my favorite.. Since y'all are on the topics of SD or SDHC cards, quick question...
I have a 2 gb SD card and i've been unsuccessful in flashing via SD. Formatted in fat32, named it HERAIMG.nhb and put it in the root, already been hardspled. Here's the question, in XP it shows as "Secure Digital Storage Device" I was wondering maybe the bootloader couldn't read the SD because it's the "secure" type not the regular one? Tried the quick format and full format to no success.
any input would be helpful
Secure Digital is what SD stands for. No matter what brand you use, that is what they are all called. There is no regular or secure SD card.
Ok, after having an Xperia X1 I gave in finally to the HD2. Man is it fast. I've already HSPL, Task 29, and flashed it with Energy ROM. My problem is everything works as it should including the storage card, but after I start playing around with it and it resets it stops recognizing the storage card. If I perform a hard reset, it recognizes it. If I go to boot loader it recognizes it. But after a couple soft resets stops recognizing it. What problems should I look in to in trying to resolve this?
Thanks.

Try removing it, booting the HD2, then switching it off and pop the card back in, does it still not see it?
Is the card the one that came with your phone?

If it is a stock SD card, then get it replaced, they suck. I had to get a new one before I walked out of the store .......

And no, it's not the stock card. It's a Sandisk 16 GB. I heard the stock cards weren't any good. But even with playing with both cards it still doesn't recognize it. This is very frustrating.
Could there be a possiblility of it being a ROM problem? I'll be honest and admit that I didn't even test it when it was stock. I just charged it and did the procedures to flash it and revert to the ROM that I'm use to on my Xperia. Or could it be a faulty phone?
It might be a faulty phone, but you should try different ROMs, see where that brings you.
EDIT: Lots of ppl have trouble with 16GB cards, but if you say that you have the same issues with the stock one, then...
My Xperia recognizes both cards, but the HD2 doesn't anymore. I even reformatted the both cards to FAT32 and both were recognized. So I copied some programs over and installed them...soft reset, and now it's not recognized again. I'm getting frustrated. I found that another member has stated that his class 2 didn't work, but class 4 did. But I thought Classes don't affect whether it's recognized or not, but the read/write speed?
dude try this, I've been doing this a couple of times and it works for my T8585. You insert it into a card reader then plug it to your computer. Most often a message appears on your computer screen telling you to fix your card (I use windows 7) but just ignore it. Then copy all the files in your card to your computer, plug it out and insert it into your phone. You can try and tell me whether it works for you.
SDHC problem
Hi, i have similar problem. When I insert SDHC (4Gb class4),Device dont recognize, but when i plug into USB and press Disk drive,RECOGNIZE. I have HD2 T-Mobile, Energy ROM/Stock ROM...
Can somebody HELP ME ?
So I attempted the OTA 2.2 update and I'm honestly not sure what exactly went wrong. I waited for Verizon to push the update, but apparently the update was corrupted because the OS was acting very sporadic and my Baseband wasn't upgraded because it was (and still is) on 1.x.
I attempted to upgrade the baseband and thing got really strange... I could try to explain everything I've done to try to fix the phone but I really can't come to a solid conclusion. I've worked extensively in the iPhone jailbreaking scene but the Android stuff is a bit different so I'm still learning how the phone is logically designed, etc the hard way.
Here's where I am now:
I cannot boot into recovery via any means... I'm pretty sure that the partition is deleted because it just jumps straight back to HBOOT. When I was still able to get into recovery, the sdcard couldn't mount as well as a few other things in /dev/block. I can't get HBOOT to recognize ANY PB31IMG.zip's nor would clockwork install them from recovery before I lost recover... when I try to flash recovery with fastboot, it says not allowed. I didn't think it would be an issue because I have S-OFF.
I feel like if I can re-flash the newest clockwork or cyanogen from HBOOT, I can then mount my sdcard and restore to 2.1 and then try to OTA again (after a nandroid backup), but I can't really get around HBOOT's permission hissy-fit.
I can't just take my phone back to the verizon store either because I'm in college and have no car and there isn't one nearby.
Any help is appreciated!

One simple thing to check: is your SD card formatted FAT32? If it's the stock 2GB one, then probably not. You need FAT32 to flash PB31IMG.zip...
Yup, if you can get to hboot you're fine, just make sure its formatted correctly as previous poster said.
Hmm ok well, I read that little bit elsewhere and you are completely right, the card was fat16 so I formatted it as fat32 and it still doesn't offer to update the zip... The only thing I can think of is perhaps there was a problem with me having to use my phone as the card reader? I don't really have any other options there and now I can't mount it in recovery to try again.
I have a blackberry 9650 that could act as the reader I suppose... If I can get it to boot without the battery. I somehow had it pulled and left it all the way back home.
Any tips are still appreciated. Thanks guys!
I am not 100% sure this will work but since it sounds like your phone is not bricked but you have issues getting the right files on your SD card...
Card readers for your computer are dirt cheap, no?
Head to Best Buy, pick one up, and then download and transfer the files you need on it over from the computer. Then put the SD card back in your phone, and start over.
I hope someone will chime in if this sounds like a bad idea for some reason...

The problem is that I can't easily get to a place that sells MicroSD card readers. If I were so able, I would just go to the Verizon Store and get my unit replaced, as the technicians advised me to do on Twitter.
I need a way to format the SD card from fastboot or something else... perhaps my Blackberry 9650 will do it if it's only getting a charge from the sync cable. I shouldn't have left its battery at home. My mistake
Has anyone else had an issue with formatting it from a phone directly?

I completely agree.. however I'm unable to get it formatted. One of my suite mates has a Moto Droid so hopefully it can format it and all will be well.
Here's another question though.. Why can't I flash a recovery image via fastboot? I keep getting "writing 'recovery'... FAILED (remote: not allowed)" and I'm using official images with S-OFF set so I don't really see what the problem is. I've searched around quite a lot and can't find much on it. I at least want to be able to boot recovery, or maybe flash the system partition back from hboot via fastboot.
Just curious. Thanks guys!
I had some problems with my SD Card as well (it would not recognize PB31IMG.zip) during hboot, but clockworkmod could read it. I believe there was a problem with the SD Card, kind of wierd to explain, but I replaced it with another SD Card and that problem has gone away. Could be your card is "partially" defective.
this scenario kind of happened to my friends's new incredible. unfortunately he is not rooted nor s-off. After he applied the OTA and rebooted the phone it just FC's after the boot screen animation. I'm hoping that the factory reset/data wipe will fix this thru the stock recovery or hopefully will let me put the signed .zip RUU on the sdcard and flash thru the stock recovery.
Ill let you know how things go, but it seems im in a darker situation than you are as I have no clockwork recovery to play with and get this working.

One of my SD cards is fully defective, but the one from my Blackberry is fine... I just have no means to format it.
And to the poster above me, I don't have recovery anymore since my recovery partition is apparently wiped (my bad ), however I do have S-OFF. It's just all frustrating. Why can't I flash it straight over USB like the iPhone? I miss my beloved DFU Restores with iTunes
You do need to format the SD card to fat 32 and I would do a factory re-set also.

You realize that you don't need a micro SD reader if you have the full size sd to micro adapter card that comes with almost all micro sd cards...
Also make sure you didn't rename your file PB31IMG.zip.zip. One zip is enough and if it's a zip file, Windows will put the proper extension on automatically.
If you can get into hboot, you're not hosed yet.

I have read that around... I work on a Mac and I have it setup so that file extensions are always displayed but I was last trying most of these fixes from a Win7 pc that isn't setup that way... the file extensions are hidden but that said, unless I saw "PB31IMG.zip" in explorer, I wouldn't have any issues because there is only one hidden file extension. However, now that most of the people here at my college have gone home for the weekend, I can't verify that =/
I understand that I'm not really hosed... I knew I wasn't bricked, but I'm close and it should get some people to look at this thread just a little bit more. It's a dirty little trick but it works. Hence "potentially"
And yes, I'm aware of the SD adapter thing, if I had one I could just format it through my digital camera... too bad all of my MicroSD cards came with my phones so there is no adapter.
You must be at the only college without a Walmart within walking distance. I hope you get it working, as a new SD card formatted FAT32 should fix you right up - I wouldn't trust your current card given what you've described already.

Much less the only college where you don't have friend or a friend of a friend that has what you need. Much less a resident dorm geek around to ask for help. I'm sure if you ask around someone would have a reader or adapter. Perhaps you will have to use it under their supervision so they make sure it doesn't grow it's own feet, but I'm sure if you asked around.
Im sending my phone back to htc so I flashed back a standard rom. I thought this would remove hspl but it didnt now Im ****ting my pants. How do i get it off?
Did you flash stock rom via sd card? That is the only way that flashing a stock rom removes hspl. Otherwise the much simpler method is to rerun HSPL2 and select your original spl (ending in 0000) - assuming you can remember which spl you were on.

Find nbh file of the rom you want, copy to root of sd card and rename it to LEOIMG.nbh, boot into bootloader and follow instructions. If it doesn't pick up the image, try reformatting sd card (preferably a small one ie 2gb) to FAT32 and retry.
Ive renamed the the file but bootloader does nothing, i only have a 16gb sd. I also put the whole rom on the card and selected it using file explorer and now the windows colour dots are just going around in a circle.
Did you copy just the .nbh file from the rom to your sd card and rename that and not the entire exe file? You also won't be able to flash via file explorer.
Seriously though if you can't flash via sd card (bigger sd cards don't alsways work - although my 16gb card does) just do the second and much easier option I gave you above, ie flash the rom via exe as you have done and then run HSPL2 and select your stock spl.
I cant do that cos now windows 7 wont install the bloody drivers lol. Im FUBAR'd
Be careful in your rom selection. This should ALWAYS be stressed when telling people how to do this. It's not simply a case of getting the one you want. You should always try to get the original rom your phone came with, or at a minimum one that the htc site recommends when you enter your country and phone serial. Flashing a bad rom via sd is pretty much the only way to brick your phone. This should not be forgotten or taken for granted.
That said, download the correct rom, rename to leoimg.nbh, stick it on the root of your sd card. Power off phone, insert sd card, hold volume down, press power.
(yeah I know clyde just typed the instructions, I just like them explained this way).

Good point m8, I assumed that as he had already flashed the rom via exe that he had the right one. (I know that's a dangerous assumption given the level of some of the users on this site as some shouldn't be authorised to use anything more technical than a tv remote - no offence elgrego4 ). Noted and I will include that important statement in future advice given
I've just seen from your signatrure elgrego4 that your rom is listed as LEO70 (ie WP7). Did you reformat your sd card after using WP7?

Turn the phone off..Then turn it on while holding volume down. This will take you to the bootloader menu( rainbow color). Plug the phone unto your PC then flash the original ROM that you downloaded from HTC site.No need to sync..Hope this will help.
Hey man if you want to remove HSPL you can just run the HSPL program from your pc with your phone connected in bootloader. It's the same procedure as installing HSPL, but now you must select SPL 2.08.000 instead of HSPL 2.08 while running the program.
I did it this way while I had to send my phone back and had no problems with it =)
You can check your SPL version in Bootloader.
yes it was fat 32, ive borrowed a 2gig so i will try that next
Its flashing with the 2gb card so fingers and everything else crossed
Keep us posted pls. I'm thinking also to bring back because of pixel error on the screen.

Pleasure m8, good luck.
Was 3.03 your original spl? If so I guess you do know it's a mission to get back to flash hspl once you get your phone back. You will first have to downgrade your rom to get to a lower version spl and then run hspl.
Ok, here's my case laid out. I've searched the forum to death, so I'm pretty sure what I have here is a head scratcher so I'm hoping someone can help me out.
I bought a used HD2 off craigslist. It came with WP7.5. When I plugged in the data cable (i.e. USB cable), I didn't get a prompt for mounting to SD card. I installed Zune and got all the drivers (going through the MS troubleshooting list), and the phone was able to mount to Zune with only 200 mb. No problem, right? This error is common. I find out that if I use an SD Formatter, I can clear the card, which is 16gb, back to it's original state by mounting the card through MAGDLR.
After restarting the phone, I still couldn't get more storage than the allotted 200 mb, except it had decreased to ~150 mb. My phone was filling up quickly. I researched that, under WP7+, there should be a "connections" option under settings for mounting the SD card through the cable, so I thought "Hey, maybe it's because this flash of WP is missing something." so I reflashed my HD2 to stock rom using a guide.
While as a stock HD2 (T-mobile), I had now 600 mb of space on the phone to use, but I noticed that the HD2 still wasn't sensing my card. Bad card, maybe? So I tried an 8 gb I had, a 2 gb I had, and a 32 gb I KNOW works from my tablet (and still works on my tablet). I decided maybe it was the ROM's fault, so I decided to flash android on it, since I'm used to android from my other phones.
So I follow Jayce's guide and put on the proper HSPL, MAGDLR, the right Radio, and CWM to flash a new android ROM and banish my problems once and for all.
PROBLEM, I'm stuck here because (dope!) even MAGDLR and CWM DO NOT SENSE MY CARD(S). Now I'm stuck and I don't know what to do. Is there a way to get it running at the very least? I know the microSD slot is pretty much the most reliable piece on the phone, so I don't think it's broken.... but maybe it is?
So either a) somebody help me get the phone running with any ROM or b) somebody help me figure out how to get the SD cards working.
Sh*t out of ideas here.
[edit] OK! I FLASHED IT USING THE OL' HOLD DOWN THE "DOWN VOLUME BUTTON AND FLASH THE STOCK" Could still really use help with the SD card sensing thing though....
it wouldn't be the first bad sd card slot reported here, so, reliable it may be, break proof it isn't.

I had a bad SDCard too, it doesn't work in recovery but does in the ROM... I think you should really think about replacing your card. Flash memory has a limited amount of writes, so I wouldn't be surprised if you lose your data or find it unusable one day.
