You have posted in the wrong forum.
I am moving this post to the Shift forum.

With all due respect, some quick Googling would have answered your question. No - there is no phone in this device, only data...well, to date anyhow...

Hello evryone newbie here i want 2 know if it is possible to connect the xda to the computer to use broadband rather than using my 02 contract? help would be great. Keep instructions simple if possible as i am new to this.
Connect via docking cradle and it connects to broadband byitself.
If you have BLUETOOTH on your pc - it should connect wirelessly ok via this too.
Do you have bluetooth on pc?
i dont have bluetooth on pc but how do i select to use broadband as apposed to selecting just normal gprs.
Thanks for your quick reply

Give over
Hold on a second boy....I did the honorable thing that all newbies should do and i used that little button called "search" in which i searched for all things realted to broadband and xda2. Nothing helped..slightly too complex for a "Newbie". So what was i to do?, had i known it was a crime i wouldnt have posted a straight forward question in which i greatfully recieved a straight forward answer. What however was pointless was your post which is:
1. A pain in the ass.
2. Cocky and not relevant.
3. An indication that you my son have far too much time on your hands to go around hassling newcomers (who YOU once were!!!) who just want a little bit of help with thier brand new xda 2 and dont want to hoke throu thousands of posts in the off chance that i may find it intime for the xdaIII.
Amen
P.S. Whilst searching i found a topic entitled: How to post a message in a forum, without double posting?......check it out :!:
:!:
Nice one matey, there's nothing like slapping down cocky buggers when they need it, and I see from his previous responses that he does! If you can't help, keep it shut! The search option rarely helps, it just brings up too many random finds, it's quicker to 'rely on the kindness of strangers' as the lady said. The bluetooth option works well, when you get the right product, I struggled for months with a bloody belkin card then went mad and blew another £25 on a usb dongle from USBtech.co.uk, worked like a charm right out of the box. Just sync via bluetooth from the options menu on the xda. I can't see much point surfing with the bugger in the cradle though, but I think you just tick 'Allow network and Remote Access Service in Connection Settings in Activesync on the PC, I could be wrong but I'm sure someone will tell me.
Cheers
Re: Give over
Hey, I'm not being cocky. I'm no expert either, but I managed to find out how to do it without asking, so I'm sure you can too.
For starters, how about these three topics for connecting to the Internet through your USB cradle? Took me about 30 seconds to find them.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=3725

There are even more topics about Bluetooth connections and Internet access. If you search other websites too you'll find loads of info.

Fair point. Guess that's what comes from posting using the XDA2...
And Bully: Your post offered nothing more useful to d4vel than mine did, except maybe some moral support of my imagined cockiness, so I'd suggest you follow your own advice: if you can't help, keep it shut.
You win cocky-boy xx
Sorted
Now isn't the forum a better place now that we have our fued worked out. . Sublimatica thanks for your help and Bully thanks for your support. Just to let ya's know i have sorted out browsing with the cradle and got bluetooth sync working too.
Cheers all

Hi Chris,
Check the Skype page beginning of October.
Cheers,
StonyA
I installed Skype on my TyTn last night, and used it over wifi to call my Dad (just because I was bored and wanted to try it), I made no tweaks or changes and it works fine. I just chose Other Pocket PC and did an OTA install with the CAB file. Works great.
which skype brand - model for hermes
I took a guess and chose Dopod 700 version.
So far seems to work fine.
voice over EDGE sucks, but we knew that.

The HTC TyTN with SJphone or other.
Hi there
Just started messing with my Rogers Tytn and I've run into a big problem. At work we have a 'smart box' that is supposed to recognize if a fax or phone is calling (the same number for both). When I call the office from the Tytn the 'smart box' decides that the call is coming from a fax and switches on the fax machine and tries to connect.
Is there a way around this?
The way these "smart boxes" work is that they detect the periodic tone that fax machines transmit at the beginning of the call to disable downstream echo cancellors (if you are sending a fax you can sometimes here a beep every second or two before the receiving fax answers). I suppose it is possible that the TyTN is transmitting a similar tone during call initiation, but I have never heard of such a thing. What radio version are you running?
Can the "smart box" be configured for exceptions based on Caller ID?
John
Hi there
Radio version is 1.42.00.00
Can't program the smart box. It isn't that smart.
Still in buyers remorse period. If I the one place I can't call is the office than the phone is useless to me. And I really like it too. Dang!

Um, pardon me if I missed something, but I haven't heard of that particular Radio Version. Is this new? I tried searching the entire Hermes main forum, and I get no hits (surprisingly, not even THIS message/thread).
Can you show us where you sourced this radio from?

Not sure this helps you. It's a 4 day old Rogers wireless TyTn.
ROM 1.34.631.14
ROM date 04.17.07
Radio version 1.42.00.00
Protocol version 32.75.7020.18H

Hmmm ... I'm sure there are others here on these forums who would love to get their hands on that radio. I do not remember seeing any reference to it before. Of course, if it's causing your problem, then maybe we're all better sticking with what we've got.
Unless somebody more knowledgable than I (most of the folks here are, btw) can recommend anything better, I would think that MIGHT be where the problem is originating. Maybe you could flash a different radio to see if that changes anything for you. FWIW, the radio in my signature has been the best one I ever found for my locale and carrier.
Good luck!

New Radio ROM
I thought I seen someone mention this on another forum and a couple of us were asking around. Is it possible for somebody with the new TYTN to dump there ROM so that the rest of the community can get there hands on the new Radio ROM.
i think you should check with your service provider, it might be a wrong definition on your line
yes rogers has radio 1.42.00.00 we just need to find a way to get it......

I agree, I have checked with HTC and Rogers, niether are releasing the current ROM, they are offering no downloads at present, hopefully somebody can get there hands on the Rogers phone and dump the ROM. Wait and See
Call from TyTn being received as fax
kruwreka, just for giggles, try calling your work number with the phone on speakerphone an see what happens.
Perhaps the mis-detection has something to do with the audio quality. There may be a hiss, hum or some other audio artifact that causes the box to confuse the call. Switching to speakerphone will let a lot more audio from your side of the phone go through possibly overriding any network introduced noise.
My first thought would be that any unusual noise on the line would be introduced by the switching network you are passing through, not from the phone itself. You can test that by calling someone else and seeing if the signal sounds clear. If the phone were introducing noise then it should be apparent to others you talk with on the phone. If the noise is introduced by the switching network then you may not be able to tell except by having someone answer the incoming call before the box can switch it to the fax or by disconnecting the box for a test.
thank you folks for all your responces...the problem seems to have resolved itself once I deleted the fax number from the contact information leaving only one instant of the number and rebooted
Yesterday (30 rd) Paul Ghent from HTC Europe run a conference in Madrid at the Movistar's MovilForum and by the end of the presentation I asked him directly if the HTC Shift could be used to answer a phone call.
Answer... NO WAY.
Due to the size of the Shift they consider not useful the voice over GSM. Anyway the model that will be available in Spain (mid-Feb) will have GSM/GPRS/UMTS/HSDPA for data. So you need to insert a SIM card on it. But NO VOICE.
They mention that the Shift will be delivered in a special price by Movistar... I assume SIM-locked.
Has no GPS and comes with Vista. The information about Shift running WM5 (or WM6) is not true. Maybe the problem is the stand-by mode the Shift has called SnapVUE which is very similar to the Today screens used by HTC in the Touch series PDAs... but is not WM5 as far as HTC said in the Madrid's meeting.
More info... in spanish I must say at www.todoumpc.com
A video with Paul Ghent speech in english will be uploaded in a few days at www.todoumpc.com including my question about the voice capabilities.
i think they are making two versions the first one will come out in march with no voice then later they will have one with voice.
i dont know for sure but what i been told for a while now and posted is that htc were deciding on gps and voice. lately from what i seen they decided to disable both. dont worry though if needed we can mod it to get both back on there. also then we will unhide the full wm6. wow htc is starting to annoy me lately with all the crippling and hidding of features. oh well atleast it gives me something to do

im right there with you, it is annoying me too i agree about the voice, that should be somthing that can be fixed
My guess is that since there is Qualcomm chipset inside the Shift and that chipset comes with GPSOne like our Athena the possibility is there. The only question is if they installed an GPS antenna or not. If the chip is there but no antenna even activating the facility the GPS will be unusable.
I use MAGLDR + Hyperdorid GBX v11. During call my previously active 3G connection stops functioning. After the call is finished, 3G is back to normal. I was under the impression that MAGLDR is free of this problem
I doubt I would even notice it if I wasn't using a navigation program called Waze that stops functioning without active internet connection, even if the stupid thing was already in use and 3G is not disabled, but just temporarily has no connectivity.
Are any of you having this problem ?

Pal, I'm incredibly unintrested in your opinion about anything, so unless you have something to say on the actual topic, just keep out.
IGNORE as found my post unhelpful and didn't read your problem clearly
