Hi. When I open the keyboard, the screen orients itself to the landscape mode. When I close the keyboard, the screen resumes portrait mode, but on the right hand side, part of the screen is covered by the background. It is the same width as the scroll bar. I can't get rid of it until I reset the device. Any thoughts as to the problem and the fix? Thanks.
umm i had that issue before, do you have a lot of programs open? sounds strange, but when ever i have a lot of stuff running, my device cant handle it, so it kind of gets frozen onto the screen until i reset...
does this problem occur ALL the time, or when u run a certain problem?
Actually, it only happens on the Today screen. If I have any program running in landscape and return to portrait before exiting to the Today screen, no problems. Just when I go to landscape in the Today screen. Very odd.
what todayscreen plugins are you running?
I think only two: Tonaya Weather to Go and cLauncher. Pbar is also running, but I don't think it is a Today Plug-in.

I had the same problem too with cLauncher but it is no longer there after I installed SPBMobile Shell which enable me to put cLauncher into one of its tabs buttons...
Why don't you try disabling cLauncher from your today..
I tried disabling each program alone. I had to place other today features (all standard with WM5) to create a list long enough to cause the scroll bar on landscape mode. When I return to the portrait mode, the space was still on the right side as before. Curiously, I put back the plugins, and the space was gone. Must have been refreshed.
Hi Curious,
To refresh the Today screen after the vertical scroll bar has disappeared try...
1) Select the Comms button to display comms options
2) Slip out the keyboard so that the comms buttons re-orientate
3) Slip the keyboard back in then exit the comms screen to return to the Today screen
Is the Today screen intact now?
Thanks. That worked. Now I'm just wondering why it's doing that in the first place. At least I don't have to reset to get back part of my screen. Thanks again.
Nice one! Well done. Not sure why it happens but I have the same issue but I don't mind it that much. I was guessing that it was the SPB Plus Today Plugin but I'm not sure.
Do you also use the SPB Plus Today Plugin?
No. Is that like cLauncher?
Hi Curious,
The SPB Plus Today Plug-in allows you to place shortcuts on the Today screen and group them under tabs which is nice but if you don't have it installed then that blows my theory
The only other thing I can think is that it is possible to alter the vertical scroll bar width by editing registry, the key is:
HKLM\System\GWE\cxVScr
The Default is (Decimal) 13 but you may be able to make this smaller so that it minimises the problem.
If you do find the cause then let me know
Thanks, but I think I'll stick with your previous idea. I'd rather not tinker with the registry if I don't have to since I'm not great at understanding registry changes.
cLauncher does what SPB plugin does. It's free and it allows different sizes for the icons. It really helps me with one handed function. It may be part of the problem if SPB does the same thing with the screen orientation.
Thanks again for your help.
This is the deal breaker for me.
The lack of keyboard will be better if I can make the screen horizontal as I do on my TyTn II. My screen is permanently on ladnscape mode.
As it looks better and there is no lag when switching.
Possible on the HTC Touch HD?
From the manual I read online and playing with it at the store I think its not possible.
Any info?
Thanks
Solution:
To remain constantly in landscapde mode:
You will need to rotate the screen and switch the phone dialer menu(screen) from the default HTC one to the WM dialer menu.
There are plenty of ways to rotate the screen and one way to switch from HTC dialer to WM.
N.B: You must disable the HTC Touch Flow 3d home menu by deselecting from the Home menu in settings.
To change to WM dialer from HTC dialer:
1- Download and install HD Tweak (thanks montecristoff & co.)
2- Use it to change the dialer to WM dialer.
To rotate the screen:
* Search on the forum for the registry tweak to make the option of selecting either landscape or portrait appear. Then go to Start/Settings/Screen and select landscape.
or
Use software like pbar or quickmenu or spb pocketplus to rotate the screen. Obviously pbar or quickmenu are preferable because they are free and very useful (thanks creators).
Cons:
1- With the WM dialer, you loose the ability to make video calls. Its not forever though, you can easily switch to HTC dialer from the HD tweak app.
2- You fore go the HTC Touch Flow 3d home screen. You will probably need to get SPB mobile shell or similar.
Pros:
1- Screen looks damn nice in landscape mode, or as I like to refer to it as wide screen!
2- More text in a more natural perspective. Things dont look so narrow.
3- Typing onscreen is much easier because the virtual keyboard is larger/wider.
I prefer this way because I did not like the way my previous TyTn II (Kaiser) lagged when it rotated from portrait to landscape every time I opened/used the physical keyboard. So I decided to keep it landscape. Turned out to be the best(my) option.
No landscape mode is supported! only TF3D today plugin doesnt support landscape!
so you will not have a problem!
Most software will work in landscape mode - see the FAQ:
"How do I make all applications turn when I rotate the HD?
Not all applications respond to the g-sensor (screen rotation)
There are a number of applications (eg. Gyrator2, GSen) that can help work around this issue. "
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BlackstoneFAQ
Not sure which applications work in landscape and which don't though, but you'd get most of them in landscape.
The Keyboard is pretty usable in portrait with such a big screen too.
I want it in landscape mode permanently!
Not with some applications...
Well u can rotate today screen aswell but it wont look as nice.Tobad it rotates back though when u return from an applicaiton to the today screen.
But that should be fixable. Just try to rotate today via the built in rotate setting and u will se how it looks.
It looks a little weird on the right side of the screenshot but it disapperas immedeiately.
I use SPB mobile shell & SPB diary combined as my today screen.
So I wont be using HTC's today screen at all.

thanks a lot.
I could not find the tweak to enable landscape mode.
Something else you could try - install AE Button Plus, map one of the buttons (e.g. volume up) to "rotate screen", rotate the screen to the orientation you want, then re-load AE Button Plus and un-map the button. That should do it? I'm not entirely sure whether this will stick when you turn off or soft reset your device though...
Alternatively you could do what I have done, and map a long press of volume up to rotate one direction and long press of volume down to rotate the other way. There are occasions where portrait mode is better, others where landscape is better. Also means that volume controls still work as intended when pressed normally. I find gsen and gyrator a bit tempremental at times, so prefer having manual control over the rotation.
Even this will not cause proper rotation if your looking to stay in landscape. tf3d will not work in landscape without some sort of bodge from the diamond. I use my htc device in a car with landscape gps apps. I gave up on tf3d as maybe i don't need it because i've got voice commander. I set gyrator to switch to the phone app and rotate if the phone was landscape and happened to be on the manilla screen. I wanted the phone app to be landscape so i can see who i'm voice calling while in the car. this works, but if you switch to another app then back to the phone then the phone goes portrait and then only re shaking and landscaping the phone gets it to go landscape. Really I don't want to touch it when im driving. I guess I could set a voice command to rotate but I dont think its worth it. I also tried unhiding the landscape with a reg edit but once again the phone app re-portraits. Im now going to try a hreset and stoping the customize incase that affects the phone orientation if not im going a hunting a reg setting as maybe there is one that causes the phone app to portrait? I swear this was easier on my universal but i refuse to give up (and im kinda having fun )

Again, in either HD Tweak or Advance Config, there's a bit where you can check which phone dialer skin is used (I think HD Tweak) maybe if you try setting the phone dialer to the original WM 6.1 dialer instead of the HTC one it might not keep switching back to portrait? You won't be able to make video calls, but that may be something you don't mind losing... I know I never use it...
No thats fine, I have ugly friends
woohoo thanks guys no more poking around in the dark with reg settings for me hd tweak did the job!

I believe he is woohoo'ing because if you switch from HTC dialer type to WM dialer type via HD Tweak (you do loose the ability to make a video call), it then no longer rotates back to portrait mode after you switched to landscape.
Prior, it would remain in portrait mode till you accessed the dialer screen, then for some reason it would rotate back to portrait mode.
Now with the WM dialer style, it stays permanently in landscape mode.
This is with TF3d disabled of course.
does anyone know how to set the phone keypad as default as opposed to keep reverting back to qwerty keypad everytime? also does minimizing programs still use a lot of battery? if so is these a application so when you press the x button its exits the program rather than minimize?
anyone? thanks

On my phone, if I chose keypad, it stays that way until i change it back.
Minimized apps drains battery and may slow down your phone (it takes a lot to slow HD2 down.. but anyway)
You can install an Taskmanager from this forum, for instance this one:
e-Natives Showcase 1.1.0 - Finger Friendly Task Switcher ---- Official Thread
my key pad keeps reverting back to qwerty still. any ideals?
Minimized apps can drain battery, but most don't. Most applications need user interaction before they do anything. Excel, for example, just sits there and does absolutely nothing if you don't use it. That won't use battery. Anything that does things in the background, like polling system states (screen on, rotation, waiting for screen gestures etc..), they will use the battery. It basically depends what application it is, but most do not.
Install the task manager from this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584415
When you open it on the home page you can go into settings and choose between apps minimizing or closing when you press the X.
@ boro22, i have the same problem with the phone keypad and cannot find a solution.... have you found one yet?
whiltst on the subject of the phone keypad can someone tell me how i can the keys to silent
I did some reading and decided to get SPB Shell 3D. I installed it and set it as default over my Helauncher. When I pressed home all I saw was a black screen and the top status bar. I tried rebooting the phone but it then took a longer time to get past the boot screen. The screen just stayed black, when i received a call the phone lit up and i was able to take the call.
So I can view:
The lockscreen
Phone Call
GO Sms
I can access things from my status bar if it pops up.
press menu and go to applications> and delete the default in spd shell.then press ur home button and select previous one
Sent from my HTC HD 2 powered by HYPERDROID
If you have a back up of the .apk, send via Gmail, install again, and this time, don't select SPB Shell (Always Use This) ... instead, select your normal shell (HTC Sense in my case), then do what namila007 says.
Same thing happened to me.. kept getting black screen, but it would give me option to select SPB or HTC Sense.. finally, like a fool, I selected SPB Always Use This.. and then I couldn't get into my phone at all.. I could view notifications.
I tried to install 1.0.1 but that didn't work. Reinstalled 1.0 on top of 1.0 and it "removed" the "always use this" *flag*, and gave me the option for SBP or HTC Sense again.. I selected HTC Sense and uninstalled SPB.. bleh.
I was trying to avoid a reset.
Good luck!
Namilla007- I cant even see the screen to even go to applications, thats the problem
Easyeee- Yeah I was in your boat, it kept giving me the option between Helauncher or Spb shell. But it gave me black screen when i selected spb shell 3d, and like an idiot i made spb shell 3d default. Ill try the email thing you said, thanks!
I was almost about to flash a new NAND ROM on my hd2. such an annoying folly i caused
Just for info. I had it work as the default on NexusHD2-Gingerbread V2.5 and CMYLXGO's Stock Desire HD(2) NAND ROM [v1.1.10n].
What I did was I launch Shell3d once without making it a default. It takes a while to load the first time. Then I move around the screens a few times and hit the home two or three more times each time hitting shell3d. Then hit home one more time and set shell3d as the default.
I am no longer running the program however as it those not work my Lotus notes calender and SPB gave me a refund.
I guessing your not able to see the manage AP because Shell3d hooks into that to allow easy uninstall.
You may need to reset your phone data to fix the issue.
Hi Folks,
since years I am looking for the right Home Screen. using Touch Flo, Manila, SPB Shell and countless others I didnt found the right one for me.
When 6.5 with reworked Start menu was launched I was wondering that I always use it for launching apps.
Has anyone a hint for me how to disable "Home Screen" and use Start menu instead of that?
Thynks in advance!

I can't answer your question exactly, but I have a couple of workarounds.
Use a key mapper to change all buttons/home button to launch the startmenu, or just use a today screen with all the links on the front, such as today launcher / spb pocket plus etc...

not bad idea !
Why are you not using iphone today or even todayx plugin(a WP7 like home screen) ?
Well, Wisbar Advance is the only app I can think of which actually gives the ability of a cascading start menu, or you can just opt for windows 7 (if only!)
