Recommend some software to wake up my home PC from Touch - Touch CDMA General

I'm just starting using Orb and realize that my 24*7 home PC is a power hog. It would be really nice to leave it on sleep mode for the most of time then from the phone to wake it up before I want to use my Orb service.
My old [email protected]: Celeron 1.3M/512MB SDRAM/200G harddrive. Using Win XP pro SP3 connected to Linkysis router. orb is set to start service without me logged in the desktop.
Phone: Touch with WM 6.1
Please recommend a software that can do the job via sprint network. Thanks a lot.

You could try Remote Desktop Mobile.... you'd probably need to set yourself up a DDNS service which your router should support, then be able to log onto your computer from anywhere, including your phone. I'm not sure if it will actually wake the computer from sleep though, never tried it. I would think yes though.

Set wake on lan to enable on the pc, and on the phone get the software Magic Packet... Think that's what I used...

I neglected to mention I use a DD-WRT capable router at home and turn on the VPN server so I can vpn to my home lan, then send the WOL packet, then I hit the box I wanted... When finished I normally vnc to it and shut it down again.

Check out www.logmein.com. Works like a charm for me.

Controlling PC over WiFi

Is there a program that allows you to use your Wizard to remotely control your PC over Wifi?
I remember my friend had one on his Universal that allowed him to use bluetooth to control his PC but I don't remember the name. Also, not sure if it was the phone's fault but the picture was slow to refresh. Unfortunately, he's now sold his Universal and said good riddance to anything affiliated with it...
There were a couple of programs that let you use your Wizard as a keyboard input device but do these also let you control mouse and let you see what's going on?
Yes, try this!

there is a terminal services client built in as well...
Thanks for the replies.
Yeah... the in built Terminal Services Client didn't work for me and I guessed that it was just the inbuilt stuff being useless.
Unfortunately the vncviewer doesn't seem to work either. I'm beginning to suspect that there's something wrong with my Wizard or my home WiFi setup in general.
Oh well, time to go fiddlin'
On my device it works perfectly. You can also run the program on your desktop pc to test it.
Can you ping your pocket pc from a desktop pc?
No, I can't ping my Wizard; I tried this first and nothing goes through.
I had thought that my router wasn't letting anything through but I can ping the other computer on my network just fine.
I did try the program but I can't connect to the other computer on my network. I only know the basic home networking stuff so it's probably something to do with my wireless router. Do the ports matter?
The ports don't matter because ping takes place far under the TCP/UDP layer. On my router (fritzbox 7050) there is an option where you must allow that wifi devices may communicate with each other in general. This is the only restriction I can think of if your other computers are hardwired.
However, I can ping my wizard just fine when he's connected to my router. Have you enabled DHCP? If so, try to (disable it and) manually assign an IP to the wizard.
My router (Belkin F5D7633) doesn't have any options to enable or disable communications.
I tried assigning the IP address manually and switching DHCP off and this has allowed pinging but I still can't use either the inbuilt terminal services or the vncviewer.
I think I'm going to give up trying to use my Wizard for this and just stick with a laptop...
Maybe this should be said, but I thought you surely know ....
In order to use the vncviewer program, there has to be a vncserver program running on some machine. try realvnc for example http://www.realvnc.com/.
Install this on a local desktop machine and then try that viewer again.
If you already did that, then sorry
 Don't be sorry. Actually I already have the free verison of VNC running on all my machines and I have a license for Access Remote PC from a while ago to transfer files when my Windows XP stopped displaying some folders across the network.
I think that's where my problem is: either in my network or in my operating system. I do access my PC from my laptop but I just thought it'd be nice if I could do it from my phone too. Oh well... but thanks for the help though, you've been very thorough
no problem  the last thing I would try in your case is to open up a general server on your desktop pc with a program like netcat. then grab a telnet application or the internetexplorer on ppc and try to connect there with that. worth a try at least...
How can i use this with macs? Is there another software available?

Problems with PAM disconnecting as soon as it connects

Ok, so I've had issues with vista and pam before, but I have a new one, that I can't find anything about on google, on here, or anywhere else so far. I have a laptop with vista 64 home premium that I can PAM with mogul's ICS using my phone or my wife's (both are on the unlimited PAM plan.) My wife's laptop runs vista 32 home premium, and both of our phones have an identical issue when trying to tether with it, meaning its not an issue with the phones. When connecting to PAM on her laptop, 7/10 time, it will go through the steps, and when the vista networking gets done with identifying, pulling an IP from the phone ICS, and checking for connectivity (which vista does by pinging a server by domain name to determine that the DNS is working in addition to the network being open) it will be up for a split second, then disconnect. Sometimes it will disconnect after Identifying, but before making the connectivity check. The rest of the time, it connects and works fine. We have tested other cables, and recently I tested it under safe mode with networking, and made my first progress.
Under Safe mode with networking, it will connect perfectly every time. The hard part now, is I do not know what program or device conflict could be causing it to disconnect immediately after completing connection. Has anyone had this issue and found any other programs or hardware to interfere?
I haven't had this proble in specific but I did have a problem with using ICS in vista to let my PS3 go online via my laptop using the mogule as my internet connection, in one instant it actually gave me the blue screen of death. I have to say that with Ubuntu and Vista the best way to use the phone as modem is to run ICS (on the phone) and hit connect (I'm speaking about the usb method) the phone will say check cable or something and then hook the cable up. This way has eliminated the quick disconnect witch i experience in Ubuntu a few times.
Hope this help

Remote Desktop Finally Sorted

Ok so I finally got it going over 3g anyone else managed yet??
anyone no if I can shut-down my pc using Remote Desktop I just get the options to log-of ???
I'm pretty sure you can't shut down normally using remote desktop. You could try setting up a shortcut on the desktop that shuts the pc down, then just double click it when you are done.
(Not sure how you would set that up, but the theory is sound )
Run a DOS prompt (Start, Run, cmd) and type shutdown /? - it will give you a list of shutdown options that can be run either via a DOS prompt, or, as samsamuel suggested, create a shortcut that runs it.
Or just get the task manager up by holding your finger on the task bar
Sorted, cant believe how long it took to get it working from 3g, just sat down today got my head on and bam first time, so i should be able to connect to my pc from someone else's wifi as well right??

Yeah. Via your data connection and via someone else's Wifi just uses your external IP address, so they're exactly the same (just probably cheaper and faster )
Hey sorry for my ignorance but how did you get it to work. i Tried it over my wifi and my 3g both didn't work. port forwardded 3389. I said to allow other computers even running other versions of winwos to access my windows 7 pc through my computer properties. I used my internal IP address over my wifi 192.168.xxx.xxx and i tried my external ip adress was 172.xxx.xx.xxx. and it just won't work hasn't worked sinc ei got the phone. I love the phone but still it bothers me i can't get this to work anyway got any advice?

Cannot connect with current connection settings to change your current connection settings tap settings
I’m running Windows xp home with a Dlink EBR 2310 Router.
I’ve forwarded port 3389
I have tried the local Ip-adress and my computer Ip-adress, and I have allow connection for remote desktop.
What am I doing wrong???
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
hum ok then i know same thing every forum you go to newbie thing well i used Google and the search bar
are you trying to connect while on the same network (i.e. you're at home on your phone where your computer, and router are)?
or are you trying to connect while at another wi-fi location? (away from the location where your computer is)?
at home please note remote desktop is new with me but however i found tutorials at pocketpc i know computers pretty well but this has me stumped....
what would it have to do with the net work? I should be able to connect to my pc even if i was down the street also my computer is not running off WiFi or a wireless router.
I'm no expert by any means, but I managed to connect to remote desktop by using this:
Computer: (use your computers IP address, not your routers)
User: (should be the same as your normal sign in)
Password: (self explanitory)
Domain: (Leave blank)
This worked for me, but I am on the same network as my computer.. I DON'T know how to log in from another wi-fi point.
Izod2010, let me know if this works (on your home network)
If somebody knows how to get remote desktop from an outside Wi-Fi point, please let me (us) know.
Cannot connect with current connection settings to change your current connection settings tap settings
so that's a no it didn't work with My IP or local IP
do you have the Wi-Fi on you phone turned on? I tried to connect without turning on my phones Wi-Fi the first time.
Once I turned it on.. it went without any issues.
nope still same message♠
should i use the router login?
check these out:
http://www.ehow.com/how_5232336_use-remote-desktop-mobile.html
step 2 might fix it.
or check out youtube...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCs4GQma7IQ
(I didn't mess with my router like he said.. It didn't have those setting available to me)
yea no matter what i do it dont work i guess its either phone side or my pc not sure whats wrong.
oh, btw. what operating system are you running? I think you have to have XP professional or newer to run RDT... and like the one website said (that I linked to).. I believe that you need to go into it (on your computer) and allow RDT accessability from outside computers.
other than that, I have no idea.
finally got this working...
upsetting that i can't turn it off/on.. but still bad ass regardless

What do you mean? What can't you turn on/off?
For Remote Desktop you must have XP Pro. XP Home and all other "Home" Windows do not come with the Remote Desktop Server. They do come with the Remote Desktop Client (RDC) so you can connect from the "Home" PC to some other "Pro" system. But you cannot use Remote Desktop Client (RDC) from anything to cennect to a "Home" Windows System. For a "Pro" system, right click on "My Computer", select "Properties" and then select the "Remote" tab to turn on Remote Desktop Server.
I realize this thread is old and technically solved...However I just experienced this same error message and after searching and not finding an answer wanted to post what solved mine for the next person like me.
STUPID...but I just flashed a new ROM and couldn't get signed into RDM--My Data Connection was turned off by default on the new ROM. I didn't realize this until after getting extremely frustrated.
Hope it helps someone in the future
Did you get this to work?
Hello,
could you ever get this to work out??
It was working fine on my touchpro 2, and I used it almost everyday with no problem.
ever since I got my HD2, it NEVER worked, and I tried every way possible. Every time I asked I was told to do the steps mentioned in your post replies and they told me you're a newbie maybe you can't figure it out, Ive been using windows mobile for nearly 10 years now, and I used remote desktop since it was first launched!! and it worked perfect every time.
There is a problem that I can't figure out, Im a computer software engineer and Ive been trying EVERYTHING possible. Something is missing, and wm experts and neglecting this, thinking that we're newbies and just can't figure it out.
Can someone tell me how i can get a small navigation window in remote desktop ? Watch this vide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFiDZ_wBAtM&feature=channel PLS help

Experiencing Wifi Drops / problems? Try this solution....

Hi guys,
As you all no Wifi dropping is when your phone is connected to the router but not the internet, i.e. you can see the wifi symbol but webpage does not load.
I have got a suggestion: Turn your Laptop into a virtual Router using these softwares. This will work on pre-rooted phones also.
Connectify - http://www.connectify.me/
Paid service but the Lite version fully works on one phone. Havent tried to connect more than one.
Virtual Router - http://virtualrouter.codeplex.com/
Free and open Sourced. This worked perfectly on the first day, but when i put my PC on hibernate, its showing an error everytime I run it. Might work for you.
Maryfi - http://www.maryfi.com/
Free and ad-supported. Was too hard to setup. Iam going to try again some other time.
Note: All of the above works on my Windows 7 Laptop PC, not sure on Desktop PC or Mac.
Let me know here if it works for you. Add some more if I missed any.
