In regards to ROM upgrade, I would like to know what software would be needed to update just the Radio, I am familiarized with the HTC Universal, so I would just like to know the software for the Herald (T-Mobile Wing) to do this with
Thanks

not sure about Herald
but any pda i'd flashed have been
the flashtool and nbf files
if the radio nbf is there it's flashed
if the rom is there it's flashed
if only 1 of them is there it's flashed
so if only the radio nbf is located with the tool only that is flashed
Exactly, except that the Herald uses nbh files.

I have in my possession 2 XDA's at the moment. 1 with a USA T-Mobile radio version 6.18 and another with a UK O2 4.21 radio version. I'd like both to have the USA T-Mobile radio version 6.18.
Can someone explain or point me to how to copy the radio from 1 to another with an SD card?
Thanks in advance.
I know about the SD backup and restore through the bootloader. I have version 5.15 btw.
When I try to backup the GSM, and I assume this is the radio, it says "Please connect RS232 and run PC Monitor."
I don't know what this means and havn't found a reference to it yet on this site.
Just get the update from tmobile, and take the radio files out of the english directory and put them in /windows on your device, and flash the radio that way.
The TMobile update has 1 NBF file - NK.nbf The radio and the OS files aren't separated.
Once the T-Mobile OS update is finished, it launches the TMUpdate program that then tries to updates the Radio, but since the radio is at 4.21, it won't update the radio to 6.18 because of some internal version check.

I have a similar problem with an O2 XDA.
OS update works fine. During GSM update the connection dropped.
After reboot I have a blank screen.
When I try to backup the GSM, and this is the radio, it says "Please connect RS232 and run PC Monitor."
I also don't know what this means.
:?
I did a cooked rom in one of the kitchens using a T-mobile ROM. I don't like the look or feel, don't have a linux machine so cannot use the special edition ROM.
My problem is my backup is corrupt and now I have created a new ROM in the yorch.net kitchen and downloaded Siemens ROM from their site and when I go to install it it says my SX 56 is not connected even though I look at active sync and everything works fine.
What can I do? :?:
You need to slow down and be more descriptive. Yorch does not have ATT's ROM on his site. How did you upgrade? Did you use an .exe or the OSToolset or the SD Card method? Take it one step at a time. How did your backup get corrupted?
I used the T-mobile or yorch's site to cook a new rom, I have been trying to unlock the phone and thought maybe that would give me something that the unlocker would work with.
I upgraded with an .exe
I backed up to an SD Card and when I shutdown my laptop while on the road some security program andjusted the file son the card so now I cannot restore.
I have tried using another ROM from the kitchen and the one from Siemens website upgrade and both times when I try to install I'm told there is no connection to my laptop. But I can see active sync working and saying it's connected.
Just get the 3.02 ROM from the kitchen, use the OSToolset to put it on an SD Card, and install it using the SD Card method. You won't need to have an active connection to your computer then.
Where do I find a kitchen with that rom for the ATT SX56?
I cannot access Jeff's & Yorch's site only has the newer T-Mobile and the PPC2003.
You will not find the Original SX56 ROM by itself. If you want to go back, download the old O2 3.02 ROM, install it, and then run the newest ROM upgrade from ATT.
I can use the O2 rom on a 900/1900 system? excuse me for my ignorance, but I don't want to fry my machine as this is my third one and I really want this one to work, long story.
As long as you don't update the radio stack of your device you are pretty much free to try any ROM you want. However, the intention is NOT to use the O2 ROM for anything other than having an old ROM on your device that the SX56 ROM you download from ATT will recognize as updatable. Hence, you will be able to put back the SX56 2002 ROM. As always, anything you do is at your own risk.
Thanks, I got it working and sombody gave me an image of the XDA developer rom for my unit and now it is unlocked and works great.
I am trying to test out XDAtools and using the WM2003 AT&T rom but keep encountering problems trying to load my rom via programmeA I have had some help from others (see below) but it seems that XDAtools cannot manipulate WM2003? Can this be confirmed and if so I'll abandon this test.
Thank you Cgigate and ebswift maybe this is why I am encountering problems with my download and restore of my ROM. I inadvertently choose a WM2003 AT&T rom to practice with. Maybe I should have chosen a PPC 2002 ROM to test??
I thought I had a problem with XDAtools and that I did not have all the correct links/files in place. Maybe I should dump my ROM and try restoring a PPC2002 and then re try my test. Thanks again guys.
it worked for me
For your info, I used XDATools and Program A to burn AT&T latest ROM. I then flashed back to XDA Developer's SE ROM in order to unlock my phone. When that was done, I reflashed the AT&T ROM. All without hasle.
Did you use bootloader or ProgrammeA ?
Thanks viERJA when you say flash do you mean copied to the SD/MMC card and used the bootloader to load ??
i had 4.00.05 before and used XDAtools to upgrade to 4.01.00 without problems.
well since if you copy the rom to a sdcard and upgrade the rom using the bootloader then xdatools cant really be incopatible with mw2003 since it's the bootloader which do the updating and xdatools does the same thing to the sdcard if you are updating to 2002 or 2003 to and from 2002 and 2003
Good point Rudegar
Good point Rudegar, therefore XDAtools is not being used in the context of elimination of the SD/MMC method. John
Please help if SX 56 Siemens Upgarde can be used for Qtek 1010.I need to upgarde my Qtek 1010 to WM 2003
Thanks
yes the rom of one Wallaby can be used on any Wallaby device
but make sure you dont upgrade the radeio stack unless you use
the same gsm network that the radiostack from SX 56
which i'm pretty sure is 900/1900
if you dont use that gsm network you have to change
the exe file to zip and copy the nbf fil inside it out and update it
using xdatools
if you just use the selfflash exe then you'll end up with a xda which only work on the US gsm network
SX56 WM2003 update aupgrades the radio stack automatically, so you may not get an option to forego radiostack upgrade
well not sure about the 56 Siemens upgrade
but with the tmobile upgrade i just renamed the extention
to zip and extracted the nbf file as i would have from any other
zip file
it were no problem at all
of cause i dont have a clue about how siemens handled their upgrade

Taimur,
I did it for my Qtek 1010 (I live in the UAE). You are right, if you run the application SX56 Upgrade it will try to upgrade both RSU and RUU. I didn't want to upgrade Radio Stack. I used WinZip and extracted NK.NBF file, used Jeff's XDATOOLS (available somewhere on this forum) and transferred it to the SD Card. Then safely used Bootloader method to flash the ROM.
I am very very satisfied with the SX56 wm2003 upgrade. Except for the multiple reset bug, I have not come across any other problem, and I don't need to reset the device often. It's quite stable. It is the upgrade that I have stuck with for the longest
By the way, using Activesync method to flash ROM is very dangerous (Thanks to Windows), and I almost killed my Qtek while attempting it once! Thankfully with the help from ntabikha I managed to salvage it and never since used activesync to flash Rom.
I currently have an Alltel PPC 6800 with WM5.
Can I dump this ROM with XDAtools and reflash if I do not like the WM6 upgrade?
Also, can I flash with an SD card? If so, what is the procedure for this phone and what should the file be named?
Thanks for any help.
No, you must use a pc and activsync to flash.
the altel wm5 rom is already available to flash as far as i know.
check out ppc geeks for more rom info then is available here.
