What is the best program out for this? i heard about wififofum and wmwifirouter
anyone actually use a program to do this now? which one are you using? and how well does it work?
I am going to be getting rid of my data card for my laptop with use of verizon's vzmanager.
Thanks to dcd, i love this phone, gps gets a lock in 5 seconds vs the ppckitchen.orgs builds.
now i just need this setup as a wifirouter and this 500.00 phone will pay for itself woop

I have never used WiFiFoFum, but I do use WMWIFIRouter all of the time. Works as promised and the Mogul even has decent transmitting range.
I have done speed tests with WMWIFIRouter and I still get 1.5mbps on speedtest.net
cool thanks! I am checking it out now. I am also checking out internet sharing, never figured out how it works but got it to work pretty easy
1.) soft reset
2.) goto internet sharing
3.) choose usb for pc connect (but dont plug in the usb cable yet) and choose data network connect
4.) pressed connect
5.) pluged in usb cable (status is now connected, the soft reset was the key)
gonna test out internet connection now.
but when u do this do u get hit with those god-awful charges from your service provider? i tried something like this once and sprint tried their hardest to hit me with all types of data charges and i have a data plan already!!!
I am having issues trying to use the WiFi router application. It's starts up but I can't seem to find it when I search for network on my laptop. I have a tilt and it works just fine from that.
Any one else have any idea's?
Thanks for the help
Well the new WMWifirouters suck, but here is the one i use, just make sure you have your titans wifi on when trying to connect using wmwifirouter

I'm having a similar problem, trying to connect either my PSP or my laptop (with 802.11b only). After starting up WMWFR, it says connected and ready, but neither of my devices can find it (this is with the version of the app that was just posted last week.
The newest and latest versions of WMWifirouter actually work a billion times better than that old ass version, Also give some love to the dev by buying the app he has put hundreds of thousands of hours into the app

apparently the PSP won't even connect with the commercial version, so never mind
plus, I think you might be exaggerating the "hundreds of thousands of hours" just a bit
WmWifiRouter
I've used WmWifiRouter for 8 months now, since close to its conception, and I can say without a doubt that I wouldn't try anything else. The new v1.2 will be coming out soon with the new core, which does not use the Internet Connection Sharing software with WM and makes it much faster and more stable. This is currently in beta testing, and will be released as a public beta in the next few weeks.
I have NEVER paid a tethering charge, and I can say it's well worth the small amount of money to get on board with this one.
WmWifiRouter works well, but it drains the battery very very.. fast via the WIFI...

o rly?
Even if he only put 100,000 hours into it, this would mean he had a Windows Mobile 6 device with Wi-Fi back in 1997 and started work on it back then.
Don't get me wrong, it's a good app, and he DID put a lot of effort into it, but there is no need to worship him
oh right might not be hundreds of thousands of hours but I know he's put a ****load of time into the app. I'm not workshiping him but I know how hard he's worked to put out a good product
Newer version
I think the newer version of WMWiFiRouter permanently kills WiFi on my Titan. I've had to replace my Mogul twice, and it's worked before installing the proggy, never after. Even after a hard reset, or new ROM.

My home wireless router and my PC are just close enough to connect, but the signal is a bit poor. Sure I could fix this in a whole number of ways, but I was wondering (as you do) could I use my X1 as an network extender? Essentially using it as a bridge between my PC and router to get a better signal?
Anyone know if any software of this nature has been developed?
yes and also as oven and fridge
i don't think is possible but anyway im not sure
thanks for the (not very) helpful reply. i know you can get software to turn the x1 into an access point (using the mobile connection for internet access) so im guessing its only one stage on from there to make the x1 perform the same functinality but connected to a wireless AP instead of the mobile networ kand thus acting as a bridge.
Why don't you buy an network bridge instead of using your phone as one. A cheaper one is no more than a SD card.
I don't know, but it's kinda dumb task to do for a phone... even if the phone is able to complete the task.

Because, as I said in my first post, there are loads of ways of solving this problem but I was wondering if it is possible and if anyone has done it.
Sure I could go out and do the boring thing and buy a bridge but then I would never gain any knowledge about the subject and engage in discussions with other people that think the same way.
You go ahead and solve your problems the easy way - by purchasing a mass made box. Me - I want to find out more about how things work and what is and isn't possible, not because it's the easiest or best solution, but because I like to learn.
Hi
I guess it could be possible theorically
im not in knowledge of any sw to do that
But anyway i think even if there is a sw the thing is that if you want it
just for fun is ok but using it as a real bridge it can drain the battery of X1 in few hours and the phone could get very hot ...
So maybe for practical use the box should be better
good luck
wmwifirouter could help?!

I use it on my skool.
Everything is blocked and I am the only one with high H. So I share my H trough WIFI using wmwifirouter. Been doing that since my Kaiser Hate my skool.
Only problem is. Apple users.. Iphone/Ipod Touch. Can't always connect.
But other phones with wireless, laptop etc. Can connect.
I have installed and uninstalled a number of firmware/mod combinations on my xv6800 in hopes to get the GPS working. I don't believe that's going to happen (saddly, I feel like there's a conspiracy out there to trick peeps like me into spending weeks on this problem without any positive outcome) so I'm currently focusing on what DOES work with this device.
One thing that's flakey is the wifi. At home I'm running WEP128. It connects sometimes, others it will not. When it does not automatically connect but sees it, it asks for the key each time. What's the deal with that? Entering my long a$$ key each time has made me memorize it, but it's still a serious PITA. I don't have the same issue at most other places - still using WEP128. Doesn't appear to have any issues connecting to open APs. Does have issues connecting to a friend's AP, i that it doesn't even SEE it as available any more, after the initial 3-4 connects.
Thoughts on why this could be happening? Not having the GPS makes me very angry, but then to not have reliable wifi practially makes the device pointless, as I have another phone, my own PED and an actual good camera... and a laptop.
thanks for any helpful thoughts.

I have the verizon Titan and just use mac filtering on my wireless router. The encryption slows it down to much for me and basically need the same encryption scheme on both sides to get it to work properly. I don't do anything that it needs to be encrypted and the mac filtering keeps the neighbors out as well.

Wow, of all the tuts and instructions I've tried and read, that one has never crossed my screen - and I have tried at least 4-5 different ones. The phone's already unlocked and has a custom rom on it. I didn't get an impression either way if this method will reset the device/settings/files/etc in it again. I guess I could try it out. Thanks.

I think of doing that often... but well... I don't have a but. WEP is hackable, but feels secure enough , considering I have a bunch of secure APs in my neighborhood... some obscurity helps as well.
I know that sometimes if I restart my AP (linksys wrt54g) the xv6800 will just find it and connect on it's own.

There is absolutely no reason why gps should not work on your device. In fact in this forum we really don't even discuss it too much anymore because it's really just an understood thing to be working. If you are on verizon use the latest alltel radio 3.42.xx I can't remember exactly, load dcd's 3.2.6 or 3.3.4 and start from there. Wifi on these roms have power saving features make sure if you are using wifi that you have strength up to full. Also, all the moguls that I have had, DO NOT COUNT ON THEM AUTOMATICALLY FINDING ACCESS POINTS, simply go to start->settings->connections "view all available access points" and select the one you want to use. I have heard cases of gps having trouble locking if wifi is on so make sure the switch is off and vise versa. Do the verizon qpst and registry settings change. On verizon you should have a lock within 30 seconds everytime if you are within the continental US. Good luck and take your time.

I have 3.42.something new within the last two months. My first attempt was with the DCD. Nada.
As for finding available access points, at my friend's place, it just shows it listed as unavailable. At home, it will SEE it and even attempt to connect, but often fails, except for those random times when it will connect.

Hm... will it maintain the lock with the wifi turned back on afterward? The whole point is to be able to use gmaps with the GPS. I can install other s/w that has it's own maps as well, bypassing the need for the wifi, but for starters, getting GPS working first is important.
It's a verizon phone, but I don't have service turned on yet. I'm not going to switch my number over until I'm happy with how it's set up. I do not intend on using a data plan - too expensive, so wifi when in range and other gps s/w when I'm not will be used.
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I have taken some serious time with this. The nice thing is that I don't have to rush, so I've tried MANY different things from the forums and even the PPCgeeks IRC channel. If I practice any more patience, I'll be sleeping.

That phonenews article was VERY helpful in getting me started, but:
It is ancient. Those old roms have problem. Use the newest DCD roms and radios found here. (thanks DCD and everyone)
ALSO, on the GPS.
If you EVER, EVER, installed the new Verizon MR1 upgrade, the GPS is locked. No worky no more..... But, simply find the older Verizon rom, it can be found. Downgrade to it and run it. Then go straight to the DCD rom/radio.

I did try the MR1 upgrade based aGPS hack, but I then realized that aGPS only matters if you've got a working GPS at all. Anyway, I then downgraded again and started over from scratch. I got my phone in September and did my series of hacks/upgrades/unlocks over the course of two weeks or nightly tries and retries. It's nice to hear someone say it WILL work, but Murphy's Law is working overtime with me on this one.
It is my understanding that if you don't have internet access than gps will not just not work on mogul. The gps one chip I believe is strictly an AGPS chip and cannot lock without using agps. However I guess some people have done it and use it, although even if you get it to work the lock will take forever. The mogul really needs that emphemeris data from the north american gps servers to function correctly. I didn't realize these were your terms.

I've never seen it written anywhere that one would be required to have a data connection with the service provider to get a GPS lock. Seems ridiculous to me. If I wanted to pay for a data connection, then why the heck not just pay for the VZ Navigator access??
I've never seen aGPS as a requirement either. If all the tuts were about aGPS, I'd see that having that data connection was important. Boy, I sure could use a definitive on this. If I KNOW for fact that GPS just doesn't work without a data connection, I'd have to suck it up and get an external bluetooth GPS device if I care enough. I have believed however all along that the whole point was to access GPS hardware without incurring data charges.
thanks,
Chris

Also, not trying to undermind you, but why did you aquire the mogul if you weren't planning on using internet access? TOTALLY reasonable question.
I will use the phone when I have it set how I like it.
I got it so I could have a reasonably convenient way to freely check my email and surf when in wifi range without needing to lug my laptop around with me. I got a good price on it, much cheaper than an actual laptop.
Nice sized screen for when I want to actually watch a ripped movie or TV show and the option to install other software on a whim to have with me is just great. I got a ppc that can be a phone essentially. I'm not a phone person, too cheap to pay for a text plan, but wifi is key. The ability to open this phone up for GPS use was a major factor in picking it from lots of research before diving in.
Ok
so for the last couple of days I've noticed that when at home, if I turn on the HD2's Wifi, my entire home network stops working. The router can no longer be accessed, even by wired Ethernet.
I figure it was a router issue, so I bought a newer better one by a different company - and what do you know: The same problem persists! As soon as I enable WiFi in my HD2 the router becomes unaccessible - and as I turn it off, all is well again.
I'm a computer technician, an MCSA and usually pretty good with those things, yet this issue baffles me. What on earth could cause that?
No other WIFI devices cause this issue, only my HD2.

What is the radio firmware version on the phone and what is the make, model and firmware revision of the router.
2 IT engineers are always better the one
My older router (with same problem) was 3Com 3CRWER200-75.
I replaced it with an Edimax BR-6524N. Same weird issue.
Both have latest firmwares.
My phone radio version... To be honst, I don't know how to check. My ROM version is 1.48.405.2 (71294) WWE - which is the stock rom of the Israeli version as supplied by Newpan.
Also worth mentioning, this didn't happen until a couple of days ago. Everyting was fine for months with the same exact configuration. SOMETHING must've changed, but what?
And how is it possible for my phone to kill two different routers?
I have the same problem with my laptop when running windows 7 but not linux....seems too me at least my problem is a driver issue.could be the damned for you too possibly. Was there a possible divert update on your phone?
I do not have an hd2 so I am not sure.
Edited for auto correct mistake

You check your phone radio revision the same way you check your rom version. Go to settings, about phone, software information and look for the line "radio version".
Your actual rom version is quiet old and if you are still using a stock rom then you may want to have a look at the htc website for your country and see if you can get 1.66 rom or newer.
I personally have never experienced this problem but i always use linksys or netgear networking equipment. The linksys router i have at home i've had for many years (it's a wrt54g v2.0) and it still works perfectly even though it's cpu and networking chipsets are overclocked and it runs a custom firmware.
Well, the ROM is the latest available for my country :-(
But anyway, I managed to solve it by deleted all my wireless preferences and just 'rediscovering' my home network from scratch. Surprisingly that worked and solved the problem, even on my old router.
Now I'm wondering if I should return the new one and stick to my trust good old one, or stick with the new one? It was pretty expensive, and I don't really use an N wireless connection anywhere anyway, so... What do you think, XDA?

You have no need for it, get your money back.
the hd2 is capable of N speeds. You just need to enable it in the registry. Personally i would use the old one till it dies and keep the newer one in a box till then but the choice is yours
The newer one is a lot of money I spent for something I didn't even need eventually. I'll be turning it back, I think.
Thanks to all who helped You guys rock!

great to hear that you've found a solution!
A thought came to mind while reading this thread.
Wonder if it's possible that a certain radio file/setting on your HD2 might've been corrupted and instead of generating the usual wifi signal, it could've generated a signal on the same frequency that completely jammed you're router signal?
Similar to the radio jammer units available in some countries that can be used for GSM, Wifi, etc... just a thought!
Im glad you brought this up because I had the exact same problem (accept I could connect via ethernet just wifi went dead), almost brought a new router after spending 2 days trying to set it up :/ It wouldnt allow anything to see the router wifi wise let alone connect to it via wifi. I havent turned my wifi on the phone since then but ill try reseting my settings later to see if that works. I didnt wanna risk screwing the router over lol. Im on stock 1.48 rom and radio on o2 as well

That's an interesting thought, and if it's true - reversing it could be a tool for evil - just imagine being able to shut down networks just like that...
Anyway, I'm glad my issue was solved. That Edimax N router is really expensive, and I like my trusty old 3Com way better.
My N*kia n95 used to f*ck up the router like this sometimes
let me first start off by telling you that in no way shape or form am I skilled enough to be a developer nor am I asking the deleloper with the skill to take this on. I have searched a few forum and I really can't find any info about this subject.
I have a siearra wireless card USB598 the service is provided by Sprint, Does anyone know if it would be possible to make this work on the gtab? Or is it even possible to make it work in an android system?
When I plug the card in it powers up and seems to be doing what the card does but like you could guess it does nothing else. I didn't expect it to do anything else but I didn't think it would even power on.
I am not a developer either, but off the top of my head (devs feel free to correct me):
You would need drivers for the AirCard (no idea, but maybe the Linux drivers [if they are made for the card might work])
You would also need some sort of software to have the AirCard connect to the mobile network and to have the GTab use the Aircard as a means of communication

I have an air-card, as well. It's on my list of to do's but it will be tricky at best.
I had a sierra air-card a few years back, and got it to work with Ubuntu using some ppp commands. I figure that would be the most likely route in Android, since it has some *nix similarities, but I haven't gotten very far.
If you look at "dmesg", your card might be loading up. But the problem is actually getting old modems commands to it to get it running. I think.

YES! Sprint Overdrive 4G! WooHoo!
It'd be a lot easier to try one of the 3G/4G-to-local wireless "boxes" available through many wireless providers (I use MyWi on my jailbroken iPhone 3GS though I'm looking into clear.com's service on the go). That way not only your GTablet, but your laptop and other devices can connect to the same connection and even your friends.
The air card is provided by my employer so I'm kind of stuck with it and getting into a myfi device isn't an option.
It's not really a huge issue I can always tether to my phone, It would just be nice to pop in the card and be up and running. The card also has gps built into it and I could see some use in that too.
I think drivers are going to be the biggest issue the MFG only supports MS and MAC, but there are some threads out on the web were people have gotten them to work in ubuntu. Beyond the driver issue there still needs to be some type of dialing software. On a windows box you can use a simple dialing software and dial a #77 and it will connect.
One other thing that this card has the ability to do is NDIS where the card becomes a network card and as soon as it's inserted into a pc it connects automatically but I'm almost 100% sure that it is still software based.
Thanks for the feed back.

For the ZT-180 tablets we got a number of these going as they looked like serial modem interfaces using ppp via the USB (might need to turn off/disable) any builtin diskstore... there sometimes required a build.prop edit to set the tty correct... I'd normally say look over on Slatedroid at our zt180 section as there were a few threads for different 3G dongles but mostly similar instructions... except slatedroid's been bottom up the last 30 or so hours... the zt-180 thread here is HUGE but I suspect you could find most of the same info scattered throughtout there also as maybe a starting point...
Novatel Ovation U727
The Ovation U727 supports Linux in addition to Windows & MAC. Data sheet indicates it has built in GPS-A in addition to 3G. Anyone tried one of these? I might get a used one & give it a try.
Hey guys, ive been tethering for awhile now, and had no problems, just really noticed this after my second month of service.
But, when tethering, HTML web browsing is pretty slow, and my Network Meter widget on my computer says im loading webpages at only 25 -30 KB/s but when i download a torrent/file or anything else (even streaming youtube) my dl speeds go up to 130-208 kB/s. So i thought it was IE9 but then when connected to an actual wifi access point, i experience so issues. Also, i downloaded Google Chrome and the same thing happens. Secondly, when im skyping or oovooing, it will randomly disconnect and hang me up, but yet the icon on my phone says that im still connected to data and everything is fine.
Question is this: Do you think the issue resides in my laptop, phone, WiFi tether app, or T-Mobile network?
I must add both the speedtest app and website (ran from computer) yeild the same speeds. Im completly stumped as to why its like this, im putting my money on the tethering app, but at times when i get kicked off skype and it says i have no internet connection, i try loading a webpage on my phone and it takes a bit longer. (Its really hard to say) but i really need ideas as to where i can start diagnosing and eliminating things.
AS USUAL THANKS GUYS
Are you on Magldr? If so, can you test it with cLK? I'm tethering wired and wireless with cLK and it had been pretty fast- the only time I see a lag in losing any page is if the site is a known, slow one (like the Indian Railways reservations site!)...

Im on CLk, i dont like MAGLDR because i have the red key digitizer error. Where the touch screen becomes unresponsive when you use the end key. I might tear it apart and try to fix it someday. But a thought just came across, could T-Mobile somehow know im tethering and throttle me then?
Ah! You didn't mention TMo (am on XDA app, can't see it even of you have added it to your profile!)
It's very much a possibility- other TMo users, can you check this one out?
And how do you tether- wifi or wired? Built-in or an app? I use built-in for wireless and the wired tether app. The app shows the speeds in realtime, try it if you already haven't...

Haha sorry man! Wasnt sure if it mattered. But i have a feeling its my phone, as something strange happened just a few minutes ago, i was tethering, and i lost connection, so i enabled Airplane mode, then disabled it, and it said 3 bars of service no matter where i was.. it was like the radio got stuck/froze or something. Im gonna flash another radio just to check it out. Also, i use the WiFi tether for root users app which actualy uses built in wifi tethering. But i cant really see the speeds as my phone only gets 3g on my window sill xD and i use VNC viewer to control my phone from my computer. And the tether app uses the wifi port to monitor speeds, so it goes way high when im controlling my phone with VNC from my computer so its hard to say. Im more convinced its the phone :/ but just dont know what.
I think ive narrowed it down, after changing ROM, RADIO, kernel, location, only one thing made a difference, and that was location. I think the connection is unstable because there are no bars showing, just shows the H and that its connected, so i think its just that my signal is horrible, wont know till i get my SGS2, if i get it. :/ my HD2 sucks with signal, can a bad SIM cause this?

Have you ever dropped your HD2, even if it was not a major fall?

bahaha i have to do it to the wifi antenna as well. but the wires are still connected, i dont understand what could be causing my horrible service, unless the HD2 is that bad?? i plan on buying an SGH - T989 but i dont know yet....
Are you sure your place has a good signal, and its just the HD2 that is not picking up? Try with another phone. I used to have black-spots in my home a long while back, and used some app for Symbian for my E72 to check the signal strength at various places within the house as well as the cellular towers that is available for me - maybe something like that is available for Android (should be available for sure, is Symbian has it Android will have a million alternative!).

Well i tried with my Sprint Touch Pro 2, and it got really good edge signal (doesnt support 3g on tmo) but when id put my hands around it it would loose service, but in general, it was much better then the HD2. and actually, we went to see a circus, and inside the stadium, HD2 had no service, but Touch Pro 2 had full bars... so im guessing its the HD2. :/
