Help TomTom - Touch Cruise ROM Development

Excuse me, when install tomtom dont recgnize the internal gps device, I setting gps NMEA, velocity trasmition 9600 and com4.
It work well, but is ok? or I must setting different?
Thanks
(Excuse me for my english!!!)

When you used the cab to install TomTom you will indeed need to use these settings. If you use the installer on the CD-Rom witch came with the device you can use the internal GPS.
No worries, it does the job, don't bother.

isn't the transmission 4800 ??

Sometimes it picks up on 4800 and sometimes 9600. When it says "no gps device" change the baud rate to either of the two numbers.
If its at 4800--> change to 9600
It it's at 9600---> change to 4800

Thanks forthe support, rhe gps work at 9600 and very fast I had feare that the confinguration was mistaken!

No problem at all.

If you are having problems getting GPS working (TomTom)

Hope this helps someone else
Firstly here are the settings for GPS that get TomTom working on my HTC 3600i
Device - Settings / System / External GPS
Programs tab / GPS program port: COM4
Hardware tab / GPS hardware port COM9 / Baud rate 115200
Access tab / Manage GPS automatically (enabled/selected)
TomTom - Change preferences / Show GPS Status / Configure
Other NMEA GPS receiver / GPS baud rate 115200 / GPS in COM9
Make sure you have the a recent ROM installed (Windows Mobile 6 appears to connect faster than 5), some of the older ROM's for the 3600 don't have GPS enabled. I'm using the standard HTC 3.00.707.18. ROM.
Don't bother looking for a way to turn on GPS on the unit, this happens automatically, the only key here is to make sure that you have the correct settings & your device settings match up with TomTom.
Ensure that you are standing outside for GPS to connect, it may take up to 6-8 minutes for a cold sync (however should only take ~2 minutes).
To check if your GPS is actually working, go to show GPS status, if you see the message "GPS Device Not Found" it's not working properly, check the above steps again. If you see "No valid GPS signal!" this means your GPS is working, however not yet locked on-to satelites (you might also notice the blue and yellow circle spinning).
Hope this helps.
Cheers - Steve
Nice summary! It should be made sticky.
Just my 2 pennies: TomTom should be 6.03.
My config is: WM5, GPD1, COM9, baud rate 57600, and ticked "Manage GPS automatically".

hi steve,
my GPS works fine and i have baud rate set to 4800. will it be more efficient to set the baud rate to the highest setting 115200, like yours? what is the real different in baud rate, really? please comment.

Setting the baud rate to anything other than 4800 has no real effect as the amount of data being transferred is minimal.
For any version of tomtom prior to 6.03 you would set your TT preferences to "other NEMA". Version 6.03 and 6.032 automatically select "internal GPS receiver" so there is no need to change anything.
Thanks ozsmac...worked beautifully...
I can also vouch that this works for TomTom 5.21.
Cheers!!
Quick GPS FIX
Using Trinity, I use this proggy "BEELINE GPS" with this programme u get a real quick GPS fix .
get a look here :
http://www.visualgps.net/BeeLineGPS/
if u wanna the proggy, look on the net or if needed i can download it here.
Im having only gray dots on the GPS Status! and it still say, No Valid GPS, I did the settings as mentioned in first post. any help is appreciated ahhh one more thing, Im trying it on Athena, so am I on the wrong thread? sorry if I am

GPS Hardware/firmware problem ???

After 2 days trying to make tomtom get a fix with me new (bougth used) Trinity without success, I installed GpsInfo to try to understand what was gps sending torough its comunicactions chanel (NMEA/COM9/4800), and found following:
It seems that NMEA sentences are sent 'without data', something like :
$GPGGA,,,,,,,,0,,,,,,*66
$GPRMC,,V,,,,,,,,,,N*53
$GPGSA,A,1,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,*32
$GPGSV,1,1,00*79
On other pda, between every comma, there is a data/number, that I assume is the info thata the gps is sending....
For me it seems that gps has lost it´s configuration and is not able to send NMEA data, but it is working because I receive NMEA Start/End heads.
Is this assumption correct ???
If so anyone knows If gps chip(s) can be diagnosticated/reconfigured/reprogramated ??
P.S. It was bought with WM5 and Radio 1.38.
I've insttaled Radio 1.50 and WM 6.140 (Niax) and sympthoms are the same.
Any hint ???
Thanks
sorry i dont know the technical aspects of your question as far as reprogramming the gps but i do know that unless i have the following selected i dont get gps in any programs:
settings -> systems -> external gps ->
programs
gps program port : com2
hardware
hardware : com9
baud : 115200
access
manage gps automatically (yes, checked)
you might already have done this but i wanted to cover the first step before you go then, tell tomtom to look in com port 2. i also bought a used trinity with wm5 and no gps but those settings was all it took and now it works. good luck!

Trying to reproduce your config, tomtom says 'No Gps available'.
I assume you are configyring 'another NMEA GPS' and com2.
What velocity have you selected in tomtom?
thats funny ...
i think a have the problem ... its possible to navigate with tt but in the tt gps settings everytime he says no gps device but there is a connection. shown to me by the coordinates and like i said its possible to navigate. if i set up the gps new in tt there he detects the nmea gps successful but only 4 maybe 2 seconds. then its again no gps device ... sry 4 bad englisch ... any solution?
edit: well tt show me flight mode all time ... !

Tom Tom 7 Internal GPS???

I have recently installed TT7 with the v7 map.
The thing is i can´t configure TT7 to use the built in receiver opion.
To make it work i have to manually configure the GPS reveiver in TT.
I use the black version of TT7...
Any workaround for this?
It's the only working configuration for p3600
- "altri gps NMEA" - com9 - 4800 baud -
I think that tomtom 7 is optimized for htc diamond and it has a different internal gps chip.
But working and this is good
4800 or 9600 baud???
I´m using 9600 baud, why do you use 4800?
I'm also using 9600Baud works fine here....
Actually this only occurs if you use the repack 3 of the original TT7 port (from Touch diamond).
I loaded this today as I had re-flashed my ROM and wanted to try the re-pack.
I have since gone back to the original port and TT7 doesn't need any set-up for the GPS receiver....it automatically selects the uilt in unit.
By the way....after a bit of research it turns out the re-packs were done for 2 reasons. One was to allow devices which were not on the original approved device list (hence they wouldn't load) and secondly to allow the use of maps aquired by other means.........
I am going to stay with the clean original........it works just fine for me....
Problem With Mine Too
ok i have:
TomTom 7 v.7.450 (9028)

now i installed it perfectly, it opens perfectly

Which Tomtom7 version did you use? If you used the re-pack3 verssion you need to set the GPS receiver (in Tomtom) to Other Nema GPS.
If it is the standard Tomtom7 from the Kaiser thread it should find the internal GPS receiver without you doing anything.
finnaly working
ok
1º thank you Andych for giving me that hint
2º i whant to say that i had to change my WM version from
001TNYSXY - CE OS 5.2.19588 (Build 19588.1.1.4) WWE
to
Trinity WM 6.1 Diamond edition by Akeo V2 ---- v2 because v3 is off line still
and made some changes for ex:
took out:
TomTom 7 v.7.450 (9028)
and put in:
repack 3 of the original TT7
map: iberia-13 v.720.1803
GPS settings:
gps program port: com1
gps hardware port: com9
baud rate: 9600
and set the GPS receiver (in Tomtom) to Other Nema GPS
thank you all
i've tested 4800 and 9600 baud without difference so i use 4800 but 9600 works fine too.
Internel GPS
Work the internal gps with the repack 1 or 2 version???
I'm using TT7 v.7.450 (9028)
Other NMEA GPS
Baud Rate: 115200
COM9
Works perfectly, in fact seems to get a signal quicker than it did with TT6.
PS - Using ROM 007TNYSTD
I ve testet the black cap with the NMEA gps settings and is is very slow.
Then a reinstalled the black cap to the original tt 7 i have imediatly a signal with the iternal GPS.
The original TT7 is much faster than the black editions.
I got the black TT7 from this forum....
I didn't know there were other versions but it does seem rather slow.
Make My Day!, could you give me a link to the version that you say is faster than the black one please?
I mean that was the original CAP ( 1 link )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401679
but you musst find the original (better) exe^^
I cant find it any longer. its delete from server where i find it.
Black repack edition: gps fix coldstart longer then 1 min only NMEA settings
original cap : gps fix very coldstart 5- MAX--> 10 seconds with Internal GPS
Ok well I'll try and find a version that isn't black then if that means I can get a quicker fix... Thanks for your help.

No the GPS is off only you start tomtom it start too.
The Batary life is very long.
But the 1 start after insatll it can be that you musst wait for the signal becouse tomtom musst search the satelites.
Can't fin the TT7 original CAB
Can anyone give the link, or link here the original CAB so we can tast that?

No GPS Device

Hi guys,
Once more...i need your help please...
I have a Trinity running WM6 with no problems...
My TomTom version is 6.30 and everything is fine...
But today i've installed the 7.45 with new maps and...puff...
I always get the "No GPS Device" message...
Anyone can tell me what's wrong?
I've downgraded my TomTom version to 6.30 again but with the new maps it doesn't work...
I really need your help guys...
Thanks in advance...
Tom Tom 7 GPS configuration
Go to Tom Tom 7 GPS configuration and instead of internal GPS select NMEA
GPS settings:
gps program port: com1
gps hardware port: com9
baud rate: 9600
Hi Chaplan...
When i go to GPS Settings i have the GPS Baud Rate screen which i configured with 9600 and at the next screen i have this:
COM3:
GPS in COM9
COM7:
RIL on COM6:
S2410 IRDA
My question is how can i change the values?
When i tap in one of the above lines it just goes to the "GPS Status" screen again...
Thanks a lot for your help once more...
you just need to select gps in com9 and there you go....
Tom Tom says it has no GPS Device for 2 seconds and then says the GPS signal is weak till it gets a fix...
But i've already have GPS in COM9 right?
And TomTom stilles saying No GPS Device eternally
Hi again,
I think i understand now
By this time TTN7 change like you said Chaplan...i have now the message "Waiting for a valid GPS signal"...but it's been about 15 minutes...is that normal?
The Baud Rate is 9600 like you told me before...
And it's working
Thanks a lot for your help once more...
No GPS device!
Hi, Please help me!!!! I've just done a rom upgrade and unclocked my Orange M700.....When using TomTom6, It shows No GPS device!.....I tried the settings....but still no joy.

GPS baud rate...9600
COM3: GPS in COM9

What's the P3600's correct baud rate?
Is a higher baud rate better?

TomTom not recognising satellites

Hi guys,
I had all sorts of problems getting the TomTom to recognise my maps, mainly because I was using the latest version and it only works on the 730's etc, not the windows mobile 6.5 phones
Anyway, I've now installed the following:
TT_7.916.9189_VGA_WVGA
Australia_840_2562
...and the config seems to work fine. However, the software just can't seem to find the satellites...
I've done the quickgps and downloaded the latest, but still no luck.
If I try googlemaps, it seems to be fine, so I don't think it's the phone...
I did do the trick to rename/remove the btCoreIf.dll and the other one (can't remember it's name) as I believe there was an issue, so I'm not sure if this is the problem...
I've checked the setup of the TomTom to make sure it's trying to use the internal gps, not an external one etc, so that should be fine.
Any help really appreciated.
WOw. Funny that you got it at least to start up on your HD2. I got the USA map 840_2562 as well and tomtom wont even start it up without giving me a message saying "there is not enough memory" or something like that.
I don't know how to get my TOMTOM working on the HD2 with a map.
Without a map, the tomtom program starts up fine but then again, whats's the point of that, right?
Set Tom Tom to use:
Other NMEA Gps Device
Baud Rate 4800
COM4
if you have used googlemaps before using tomtom do this. Go into googlemaps use the option "reset googlemaps" or restart your phone and launch tom tom so no other program is accessing the GPS.

Thanks mate, works a treat now. I even managed to push up the baud rate to 9600...
Is there a reason you advised 4800? I'm assuming for consistency?

A baud rate of 4800 is for consistency- that it the NMEA standard so if anything is going to work, that will.
You can often push it up to higher figures, and most WinMo devices and programs aren't fussy about the rate anyway, but it will do you no good.
The actual incoming data rate from the satellites is well under 1000 baud, so that will be the limiting factor, not the arbitrary setting on the physical port.
