Programs auto start problem - Touch Dual, MDA Touch Plus General

Every time I do soft reset my touch dual, there is a notice said that one of program shortcut in startup folder cannot find the program - always say missing or no sufficient memory. But there will be different shortcuts that has the same problem while reboot. I found there are totally 16 shortcuts in startup folder. I tried to remove some shortcut...the problem solved. But I wonder whether there is a limit of numbers of shortcut that can be run in startup at the same time.
Hope someone can help me and many thanks to all!!

Can't change start menu items

I can't change the start menu items, I can't add shortcuts or remove shortcuts to and from start menu...I mean, the changes from editing menus did not appears immediately in start menu...
It needs soft reset to refresh the start menu...strange...
This is really weird!!! :?
for me, when I change the menu items, the changes are reflected immediately!!!
What ROM version you have?
When I hard reset my xda2, the problem was gone...but after installing many2 apps,it happens again...dunno which apps cause the problem though...my rom is 1.60.00
This also happened to me too!!!!
I think the problem is that there is a limit to the number of icons that you can have in the start menu. Adding any further shortcuts after this limit has been reached will have no effect!
I don't think so...Because I have only 5 items on my start menu...
and, I found any other problem too...the new installed apps doesn't display the shortcut in Programs Folder (start>programs), It needs soft reset to refresh the programs folder, or you can simply enter games folder and go to programs folder again to refresh it...
Gotcha!! I have found the answer for this problem...the start menu freezed and need a soft reset to refresh it when you use a theme that not fully compatible with WM2003...just use the theme that fully support WM2003 and the problems gone!

8525 - WM6 Slow boot time, slow draw, system bogged down

I posted this over at the cingular website, but I thought I might get a better response here.
I have an 8525 with WM6 installed. Sometimes when I perform either a soft or hard boot, the boot time is extremely slow. For example, I read here that a soft boot once a day is a good idea to free up memory. So I performed one. It takes my phone about 1 minute to go from the Windows screen to the screen where I enter my PIN. It then slowly "draws" the screen with the keypad to enter my PIN and eventually the word "unlock" appears in the lower left corner. It seems like it takes forever to not only load, but then draw the screen. Any touch input is then delayed. In WM6 does eventually load, its completely delayed and bogged down. This happens until about the 3rd soft reset when it is fine and the system is stable.
I have the following running on my system:
Sleuth255's PTTfix
enunutz HTC Home Customizer
Skunworks FlashVideoBundle
TCPMP The Core Pocket Media
C. Ghisler & Co. gtotal Commander
Vicsoft Clear Temp
Also, I have made the following registry tweaks:
1. disabled start-up animation and sound;
2. removed battery and communication from lower task bar;
3. moved battery to top of screen;
4. changed scheduling of activesync.
I have 25MB of storage space and 24MB of program space. I also have a 2GB micro-ram. Any ideas or other occurrences like the foregoing?
It may be helpful to see what's in your windows/Startup directory. There might be some sort of collision between two processes or something.
Windows start-up directory contents
Includes:
ClearTemp Startup (12/18/07)
Launcher (9/1/07)
poutlook (9/1/07)
PTTStart (9/20/07)
sddaemon (9/1/07)
TrayIcon_Manager (10/11/07)
Any help?\
Also, it does appear that after 3 soft boots, the system loads normally - in other words, three's a charm apparently for some reason or another.
My apologies if you have already tried to following, just need to know:
Did you try starting your 8525
- Without the microSD card?
- Removing the sddaemon.lnk from the startup folder (it seems to be optional, but to be safe transfer it to your PC first)
- Disabling cleartemp, either uninstall or removing it from the startup folder.
I suspect that it may be cleartemp, but I've never used it. Perhaps another process is competing with cleartemp by trying to write to the temp directory??
Also, which ROM are you using? The official wm6? Sorry for all of the questions.
I have read on many posts that removing the COMM MANAGER icon (your item # 2) from the lower taskbar causes a slow boot and system lags. It actually happened to me once after installing a program, but I successfully remove it yesterday and so far have not detected any problems. I don't know at this point why it would happen.
I've tried removing the SD Card - no change, removed ClearTemp from the startup - no change. What is sddaemon anyway? And I'm running the WM6 Rom that you could download from http://www.america.htc.com/support/8525/software-downloads.html - I guess that's the official version.
I'll try putting the comm. manager back in. It's hard to know if that was the problem, but I'll give it a shot. When you make a lot of registry edits and install programs in often hard to pinpoint exactly the problem.
dgaud007,
It may be a little early, but so far you're a genius. Looks like it may have been the removal of the Comm Manager from the bottom. I've had three soft boots now without incident. This begs the question, do some of those other today customizers which allow you to remove the Comm Manager slow down the system too, or is it just a product of using the registry tweak? On a side note, can somebody go into their registry at HKLM/ and see if there is a subdirectory called "5"? It's empty on mine and didn't know if I just created it by accident.
Thanks everyone!
Glad to help. I still would like to know why this happens. As I recall I had removed the comm manager icon when I first got this phone and it worked fine until I tried to install a kaiser type comm manager program, which didn't work. After that I experienced all the symptons, i.e. slow boot, slow redraw, etc. I then uninstalled the kaiser comm manager and put back the comm manager icon on the screen and the symptons were gone. A couple of days ago I removed the icon again just to see what happens, and so far is working fine WITHOUT the comm manager icon. I will try to duplicate the problem...
Update 12-26-07
I duplicated the problem installing this file: "JUVS_HTC_CommManager_Kaizer_fix.cab". After installing it with comm manager icon removed, it took > 4 minutes to reboot and all the symptoms re-appeared. I enabled the comm manager icon, did 2 soft resets and the symptoms were gone (i.e. boot time < 2 mins). I removed the application and installed "Kaizer Comm Manager(10 Buttons).cab" and so far is working fine without the icon in the today screen.
Same problems...
I can't really help much, but I've been having the same problem, both with the default ROM I had and with vp3g's ROM: extremely slow boot, with a successful boot on the third try...I'm thinking that the system keeps track of the number of times you try to boot, and streamlines the process the third time around to ensure a success.
Several days ago, I did this whole sequence of soft boots, and my phone actually "reset" itself: it went through the phone's "first-time-use" setup sequence, unpacking and installing default programs. I'm still running vp3g's ROM, but it now appears to be a blend of that ROM's customizations and the original system ROM, thanks to that weird reset. Anyone else know about this?

Torch / Flashlight?

Is there any torch / flashlight app where it turns the screen completely white with max backlight settings? Something like NiceLight for S60.
I've found one but it doesn't alter the screen brightness.
Many thanks
This works on the HD (but I don't use the torch much): pda.jasnapaka.com/plamp/
tried this one, and i like it, but it seems not to install. i can run it from the file, but i cant make a shortcut bescause it doesnt come up in the programs list. Anyone experience the same?
I have tried this too but the brightness intensity doesn't seem to work with the HD.

You can create a shortcut by using file explorer. Copy and then Paste shortcut into windows/start menu/programs
(please note when pasting it's easier to use "menu>edit>paste shortcut" located bottom-right)
Now you have the app in your program list to do whatever you want with it.
wired, there are to programs witch I cannot add, and both are in the filder you tell me to add to. if i put them in the programs folder-my unit programs-were other programs are, they still wont show on the list so i have to run them from file xplorer. beats me
I'm trying to understand what you're saying...
Make sure you've actually created a shortcut and not the program itself e.g. "shortcut to pLamp" and not pLamp.
Soft reset may help.
understanding now, i moved the programe. But i can only cut it and copy in that menu, it doesnt say copy shortcut, so den i cant paste the shortcut?
Probably me beeing noob so thanks for trying to help
Got it, found another folder called programs, then it worked
thank you very mutch

Programs List/Shortcuts

Hello all,
I would first like to thank all the developers and people willing to try new stuff. Without all your hard work and efforts none of us would have the phone we actually wanted with all the stuff we actually wanted.
I have a couple of questions;
1) I have been searching for a program/setting/cab that would allow the "Programs" (shortcut) screen to have four rows. Does this exist? I know there are programs that will allow the, "Start" screen to display 4-5 rows but I am looking for one to allow the "Programs" screen.
2) Is there a specific location to install programs that will allow you to shortcut them on the "Programs" screen? I have tried numerous places such as, on device in the programs folder, app folder, on the sd card in similar folders. Done the soft resets afterwords but I have not been able to create the shortcuts for IM+ and PasswordWallet.
Thanks,
Scott

1) Cab exists in apps forum. Quick search should find it.
2) Create shortcut to your desired app, i.e. the .exe file and place shortcut in \windows\start menu\programs
SK Shortcut manager is a great app for managing your shortcuts
Thanks
It never ceases to amaze me how easy things are when you have knowledge, especially shared knowledge.
I'll have to try the SK manager, but the other way worked like a charm.

How can i hide (not close) htc message with right down close button

Hi all,
i use spb mobile shell. With this UI, takes a long time to load sms messages (1 sec is a lot for me ). So i try to figured out, how can i hide sms ui, but not close.
I tried Ameba, but this doesnt have possiblitity to do exception for apps.
Maybe some change of registry? In my signature are my rom (i use rom with big buttons and cross in right down corner)
any suggestions?
thx
will it be closed if you just hit the backbutton? or are you looking for a software solution?!
Maybe this is what you're looking for. Excerpt taken from tboy2000 thread:
82. Make Common Apps Open Instantly With No Delay
The most often used apps on the HD2 would be SMS and Email. As the HD2 has plenty of memory and it is very hard to fill it up during use, why not add these two apps to the task manager exception list. This means they will never truely exit and will always be open in the background. The benefit of this is that HTC Messaging does not automatically refresh and redraw the contact thumbnails when you load the app. Instant opening of both apps with no load time. You can add any other app to this list too if you never want it to exit.
Just use this tweak. HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManagerExclusiveList\System and add a new DWORD Value of Messaging_Client.exe and tmail.exe
to fruchtfliege:
i know about back button, but yes, i want software solution. I want alway use cros for closing apps, but for this two i dont want to close them.
to weepatc:
yes, i know about this change of registry. I tried it in past, but i think it is not working because it is not very quicker loading. I dont see them in task manager (but maybe this is normal when it is excluded).
i will try it again..
thx guys for help
if are any other suggestions, it will be great
now i figured out, that tmail is ok, and this exe file doesnt close, but file Messaging_Client.exe it still close after pressing cros (X).
I try tu use sk tools in runing proceses i also try to set "add to dont close list" but it also doesnt works and this process is still killed
why?
