OK I had gotten board with the lack of wifi and decent web browser on the Treo 650 that I decided to make the move to the 8125. I knew about the speed difference and some of the other issues discussed in these forums because I researched the device for months before making the move. Therefore I wont say much about that. Unfortunately I have a few issues that I can't seem to find answers for in this forum and I was hoping other users out there could help.
1. Is there any way of making the navigation pad useful? I cant access anything on the taskbar and it would be great if I could. I installed magic button so I can close apps and switch back to home when I want. Furthermore there is almost no documentation on how to use the nav pad. All application instructions say tap the icon. It's very convenient to have one handed use. for example i have yet to figure out how to get back to the location bar in Pocket IE so I can enter a url without having to tap the screen.
2. Is it common that some applications just freak out when you switch to landscape mode (scroll bars not working and such)?
3. As mentioned I installed magic button but is there an application that will pop up a list of running tasks so I can switch between them easily with the navigation pad.
4. Backup. I may be very wrong on this but I fear that active sync does not actually backup my entire device like palm does. Could someone clear this up and if I'm correct is there a way for active sync to do this. I have more programs on this device than what is on my add/remove prog screen.
5. Notification reminders. I see a feature to have the led for a period of time but it would be nicer if it could be set to play its sound also. Like the pagers of old.
6. Notification of lost service. This phone never tells me I have no cell service. Last thing I want is battery draining searching or worse assuming I have service and miss all calls.
If anyone could provide some info on the above it would be a great help. i have already found many other programs that make up for the lacking features. Below is a list of what I have installed please make any suggestions you think would be helpful.
1. AnthaVPN - easiest and fastest to install
2. TN520 by mochasoft
3. Pocket Putty SSH client
4. Eyes On Call - Callfilter like program with many features still limited but the developer is very quick in implementing suggestions.
5. Info sharp - same developer as above but this provides sms capabilities that are very impressive. He almost has chat style sms with the way this program works.
6. OMAPclocker - for clocking to 220. I actually see the difference.
7. IM+ - Sametime/AOL instant messenger client.
8. Info apps I have Metro, Ereader, Bdicty, VadeMecum
9. TCPMP
10. Registry Wizard
11. Calc98 - the built in calc app is a joke.
12. Xpressmail - dont care what anyone says this app does what it says it will do. Pushes email to your phone.
Thank You
- Richard
sorry, you are in the wrong forum. This here is the Universal, not the Hermes (or whatever the 8125 is)
thx
wow didn't notice I posted on universal forum. well at least I can correct the typos and vgrammer before posting on wizard.

Hi,
How can I configure my trinity so that a click on messaging ALWAYS goes into the sms inbox and not my outlook inbox?
Any ideas?
Thanks

Windows Mobile is so remarkably badly designed. It just beggers belief. Just little things like this.
Also, do they expect you to get your stylus out just to close the phone? cos its very difficult to hit that tiny X in the top right corner with your fingers. They should make it a phone first, a pda second.
I think simply, they are idiots.
I have not any problems as you have. I choosed the sms one time and after that it always comes to sms inbox when I press messaging
...and if you log into MSN Messenger, it takes the liberty of loading your Hotmail JUNK onto the phone. Then it displays that you have say 2 new hotmail emails on the meesaging bar on the today screen. If you click on this its about another three clicks just to get to SMS. Then if you close it again and go back to Today screen, you click again on messaging and it is back in Hotmail inbox... requiring even more clicks to get it to SMS.
Each time i have to do this my life gets profoundly shorter.
just use left and right on the dpad to cycle through the messaging accounts
I really cant understand you guys: It is a VERY small device with amazing abilities. And WM5 can do a lot of things.

I can close the phone app by pressing the red button, no problem.

Have you noticed a button with "OK" written on top? Have you tried to press the red button after the conversation is over? Have you noticed that pressing the menu button and selecting another program will send the phone application to background? I am asking because you don't seem to have spent much time trying to learn how to use a Windows Mobile device. There are at least three ways to close the phone without touching the screen but you haven't even found one.
Regarding the default account for messaging: I usually open Messaging from the entry in the Today menu and that always returns to the last used account, usually the SMS inbox for me.
Im just pissed because I cant get any SIP things to load without having to go through a long process of unloading today plugins and setting sipchange, then soft resetting, then reloading all the plugins.
I will admit, I didnt realise a press of the Red button exits the phone app. I eventually remapped a hold of the left button to close whatever the current app is. Useful for TOMTOM, so you dont have to go through the menus. I stlll find it annoying how you cant just have the messaging default to SMS.
There is definitely no denying though that for however much the programmers have got right, they are still so far from having the perfect implementation of a PDA OS, And they should be after this many iterations. They still have tiny keyboards, tiny scroll bars, buttons shoved into corners. Look at the iPhone interface and tell me that isnt a far more intelligently designed interface.
I like my device, dont get me wrong, Im just a perfectionist and I want to get rid of all the niggles I have with it. .. and I hated Windows 3.0 which this feels like a lot of the time.

I think that most problems come from the fact that the PocketPC form factor was designed (or I should say copied from Palm) long before the idea of using it for phones. Most improvements in WM5 were actually related to making it more usable as a phone. So if there have been many iterations most of them were in a PDA context not a phone one.
Regarding the iPhone interface: I won't judge before I have actually used it, and most probably that is never going to happen

Just get an iPhone... but dont ask for thousands of games, dont ask for MS Exchange Push Mail, dont ask for Outlook compatibility (works bad on iPod), dont ask for Word, PowerPoint, Excel, dont ask for GPS, dont ask for WiFi and/or Bluetooth...
IMHO your ranting about small issues is not appropriate. Just read the manual and try the workarounds people show you here...
So are you saying that WM5 is perfect in your eyes? Or that if you have any problems with it you should never talk about them?
I am confused. Sounds like you just want people to shut up and be mindless consumers.

Only to you. I just think this: If I got one device with ten things working and one not (in fact it worked!) and another device with 3 things working I wouldnt call the 1st one "badly designed".
Well, let's see. As soon as people get their WM5 device I imagine they will want to put some application launcher buttons on the today screen.
Oh that's right; you can't without installing some third-party software.
Ok. So then they might want to make shortcuts to these apps using the keys on the front of the device.....
Oh that's right; you can't do that without installing some third-party software.
Would you prefer it if I precursed all criticisms with the positives? So, for example: Windows Mobile 5 is this, it's that, in fact, here is a run down of the binary code as a description of it and here are some technical specifications and a glossary of terms.... but... I think that they should let you place application shortcuts on the Today Screen.
Nonsense my friend, nonsense.

I fully respect that Windows Mobile might not be your cup of tea (I had major trouble to adapt to the Nokia S60 interface but a lot of people like it) but to be honest I am just happy with having the last used applications appear automatically in the Start menu, something that no other phone operating system does. I have the programs that I use most frequently always available in that list and it has room for 5 entries which is more than enough for me. And you can choose the 6 items which stay permanently in the Start menu, so you have 11 programs easily accessible plus 3 customisable buttons on the sides of the phone. It works for me.
hello everyone ! I just got my Mogul about 2 days ago and im a freakin mess on trying to figure out how to use it. here are things i need your help with....
#1 how do i transfer my contacts onto my PC? I installed the program it came with but i cant figure out how to copy my contacts to my PC.
#2 I tried to upgrade my rom(i dont even know what rom is,lol) and before i updated the rom it read ROM VERSION 2.09.651.3 AND THE ROM DATE WAS 6/14/07. after the update was complete it still read the same thing !! And the mogul appeared to be slower, screens wouldnt open fast or shut down fast etc etc. (which rom should I use??)
#3 THE CUBE, I was checking out the cube for my mogul but i wasnt sure what the benifet was of useing this program...its looks a lot for user friendly and cooler then what the mogul has now....(how do I install the cube into my Mogul?)
#4 lastly, when my phone shuts off i have to push the power button to wake it up everytime...is there any way i can just touch the screen or push a face button to turn it back on?
any help would be awsome
stacy
anyone????????
I'd suggest you visit ppcgeeks.com titan forum. Many more titan users over there and there are several custom roms available.
As far as answering your questions....
1. Not sure, i don't use activesycn for anything other than transferring programs to by phone to install.
2. I've posted a few custom roms on the ppcgeeks ftp and have had numerous compliments. My most current rom is UTCG.2.2.2 and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with it. I don't add in all the extra "crap" some one people do. I use a stable base rom and update some of the features as well as tweak it for performance. My most current ROM runs with ~28mb free ram and is very quick. EDIT: I will post link here shortly.
I'm assuming that you're new to the whole "flashing" thing so I'm uploading a complete file with the rom and flashing software in it right now. I'll update this thread with the direct link to download once it's done.
3. The real cube is not functional on the mogul. There are many hybrid cubes that other members have made. Some are Adobe Flash-Based programs and others are stand-alone programs. I like the idea of the Cube when i got my mogul just like you. But, after messing with it so much and realizing the amount of resources it uses I personally don't think it's worth it. It's just another "gimmick" to compete with the iPhone.
4. I'm not sure why you would want it to "wake-up" by tapping the screen but if this is a necessity than here's how to do it.
Tap "Start" on your mogul.
Tap "Settings"
Tap "System" Tab on the bottom
Tap the "Power" icon
Tap the "Advanced" Tab on the bottom
uncheck the box "On Battery Power: Turn off device if not used for ____"
That will keep the mogul from turning off. BUT, it will also kill your battery really quickly. Personally, i slide by mogul in and out of my pocket all day that it would be a problem if i had it activated by the screen.

I would highly recommend reading the Flashing Basic Guide over at PPCgeeks http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=9927 before attempting any of this.
There are a selection of ROMs available for different needs/tastes, and you'll also need to unlock your phone first (its all in the guide).
But, all this is only necessary if you'd like a customized ROM instead of the stock Sprint release. Most people feel that the custom ROMs perform better, but to be honest, if you don't know what a ROM is or why you want it custom, I'd just leave things as they are. As long as everything works for you, just leave well enough alone.
Now as far as your questions:
1) This is a basic PPC question and not Mogul specific. You need 2 programs installed to do this: Outlook to view/access/edit your personal information (comes on the disc) and Activesync to talk to your device and actually make sure to keep all info in sync (also comes on disc).
Each program will work without the other, but it won't sync your info unless both of them are installed and the device is plugged in.
2) The Sprint releases have bugs. There was an updated ROM (2.16) that caused more problems than it fixed, so they pulled it. Now we're back to 2.09, so that's why nothing changed. There are custom roms that combine the best "fixed bits" of all the releases so far, but don't do these unless you feel comfortable messing with it for now.
3) Cube is a fancy interface designed for the HTC Touch phone. Its supposed to make easy shortcuts for one-fingered use, and has some nifty scrolling 3D effect that they call a "cube" (even tho it has only 3 sides. I guess calling it the "extruded triangle" wouldn't have gone over as well). But, it only works on the touch, so some folks have tried to mimick it by writing their own application that looks just like it. Most of them don't work, or are too slow to be useable, only the real one on the actual device called the "touch" seems to be any good. Its still cute to show off. Not all that functional on the mogul, and I've tried many versions.
4) YES! There's a setting somewhere to wake up on power key only, or for any keypress. The screen touch thing would set it off WAAAY too easily and kill your battery as utexas said. I feel the same way about all the buttons since there are so many that accidentally get pressed when taking it and out of holsters. However, the options is there if you want it.
Good luck!
Your awsome !! could i ask you one more thing? when i want to make a phone call and i go to my contacts list all of my friends names are backwards...meaning that their last name is showin first and this is annoying because i not showing up as it used to in my old filp phone...should i download some sort of firmware to change my contact ist set up??

Contacts can only be listed by Name or Company. You can however edit the contact to change the way the contact is filed in the edit screen there is a field labeled "File as:" it's here that you can change the way the name is displayed in the contact list.
Hi all,
I've noticed talk of several bugs in the OEM release of the TD2. Thought it would be useful to list them here along with any relavent data. Hopefully, HTC might notice and give us fixes in a new ROM Can you prefix them with a number so we can track/comment on them more easily. (Can we sticky this thread???).
So far I have found....
1 - Green charge light sometimes never happens.
I've noticed this only when using the wall charger (PC USB charge is never a problem) that despite being on charge for hours the light remains orange and the battery level never completes the last block. If I soft reset the deivce and check again it now shows all blocks as green and charged. Before a hard-reset has resolve this but it has come back again.
2 - Alarms do not sound.
On several occasions, depsite the alarm being correctly set and a valid sound file selected no notification has occured (no screen message, vibrate, alarm sound or light flash). These seem sporadic and appear to be fixable by resetting the alarm tone.
3 - Hotmail/MSN uses GPRS/3G even when connected via wifi.
Annoying as wifi is often faster and free
4 - Constant Vibrate (or no sound) when receiving SMS message.
About 1 in 50 messages, the phone starts vibrating continuously but nothing else happens. If you turn the screen on you get the SMS sound notification and then the vibration stops. If you set SMS not to vibrate you have no way of telling you have an SMS until you next turn the phone on.
Rich
- The phone sometimes doesn't respond to turn on the screen from sleep when pressing power button
- Phone doesn't vibrate on messages when Vibrate profile is active and phone is in sleep mode
These may not be bugs but...
7. Cut/Paste is a pain... worst is cant cut and paste between different apps.
8. Dubious Keys:
- Softkey Phone and Hard key Phone
- Softkey Start and Hard key Home. Home key displays the "All Programs" similar to TF3D1. I'd prefer Start key to display "All Programs" and the Home key be link to some other user defined apps.
9. In general the UI is worst than TF3D1
Hopefully HTC can correct and improve the UI. What a shame...
TQ
Hi folks,
I don't know either if this is a bug, but it's a little annoying.
There is often a delay, after pushing the windows-button or start-button on the screen to open the Start-Menu.
Especially in the beginning it happened to me, that I pushed it again (as I thought I haven't pushed it correctly) and then it came up and shut down again.

Hi,
I doubt that WMV lag problem is also a bug in its implementation for WMV decoding.
Following is my finding:

This is exactly the sort of unresponsiveness that's going to make me get an iphone if WM6.5 doesn't impress me.
If GPS looses fix whilst in use (by moving underground or indoors), its never able to recover even when there is clear line of sight to the sky.
Only resolution (and very messy one at that) is a reboot, upon which GPS fix is attained immediately.
most annoying.

Almost all of these problems are solved by switching off TF3D2. I've done so and pretty much all of my problems have gone away. I've got more free memory, the phone runs a lot faster and all those little niggles like yours have vanished. It might not be as pretty, but if pretty is your thing then get an iphone ;O)
WM6.5 will pretty much make TF3D2 redundant anyway...
New features that I would like on TD2 TF3D are the capability to sort the contacts by company on and the capability to show on home screen the tasks for the present day...

Just turn off TF3D and your wishes are granted.
Incidentally, another TF3D bug: When sending a text, if it fails to send, TF3D gives you no way top resend it. You have to go to the standard WM6.1 SMS application and do it from there, unless you want to retype the whole thing.
Oh and another one (more of an annoyance than a bug) - TF3D won't allow you to change the "File as" when creating a contact, you have to (again) go into the standard Contacts screen to do this. Really annoying when you're adding the contact for a company and want him filed under the company name.
I've found TF3D to be more of a hindrance than a help.
- network key gets lost when switching between networks (and then can't paste it back in with TF3D interface, need to use WM native app)
- text messages recevied without a number (for example train company alerts, bank, phone company) are not viewable when clicked on !. They show on the home screen but then don't show in the contact centric view - and you can't add them as a contact because there's no number
- sending emails via wi-fi works intermittently. I can receive Ok but sometimes need to open a phone data connection to send

This is a huge problem throughout the TF3D interface - I don't understand how, while attempting to add some gloss to the WinMo experience, HTC managed to remove so much basic functionality.
I've been running without TF3D for a couple of days now and I'm finding the experience to be quite liberating, if a little graphically dull. Everything works as it should and is nice and snappy. I'd recommend giving it a go for maybe a week, see how you get on. To my mind, the big problem with TF3D is it's only any good if you want to do anything really basic. The moment you need to do anything slightly different, TF3D gets in the way as you have to dig through the gloss to get back to the original WM6.1 applications, which, after all, do have all the functionality. Better, to my mind, to drop the gloss and get all that nice functionality right from the start.
Heck, without TF3D I actually now get automatic capitalization at the start of every sentence when texting and emailing!
in File Explorer you cannot select multiple files because TF3D scrolls the list instead of selecting a range, and there's no way to tell it to select when i drag instead of scroll like opera does. Extremely annoying when having to move photos from internal ram to storage card, speaking of which...
If you plug in a USB host and select "Mass storage device" with the camera application open, then close Camera, it saves its setting to save photos in internal memory. So next time you open it without USB mass storage device enabled you end up with everything in internal memory - which you cant access through the USB mass storage mode... again extremely annoying and fiddly to sort out the mess it makes (see above) -
That's exactly what I mean. TF3D causes far more problems than it solves. To my mind, it's a marketing gimmick to help sell more phones - functionality-wise it's rubbish.
In the normal WinMo6.1 today screen, for instance, the Calendar widget shows me my next appointment, even if it's several days away. TF3D? Unless the appointment is today or tomorrow, you can forget it. Wanna know how many tasks you've got outstanding? Not in TF3D.
How about using a lock password that only activates if I haven't used my phone for 15 minutes? Impossible in TF3D.
TF3D has gloss. That's just about it.
I like it, just needs a few improvements - it's not going to remain buggy forever - so we shouldn't write it off straight away.
Yes your right they did it to sell more phones, but so did apple with the iPhone, because consumers like swishy smooth sliding things, not clunky window ce interfaces..
I used to go through hell every morning trying to drive windows ce just to shut my alarm up, or alter the alarm time, now i can do it my sleep.
I've heard MS have commisioned HTC to work on standard interfaces for windows mobile, so I'm sure they'll be watching this thread.
Get your bugs in and help change a good step into the right direction to a massive leap forward that you can't live without...
be +ive!
I expect WM6.5 will be out before a new version of TF3D.
I hear you talking about TF3D2 like it's crap.
It has its bugs and flaws, but there are some things you forgot to mention:
1. I replaced my standard Touch (yes, the first one) for the TD2
Why ?
I had to use my stylus for every single thing ... not really convenient right ?
With the TD2 I almost never have to use it, except for playing Bubble Breaker
There are some exceptions, but they are very rare.
And that's one of the biggest advantages of TF3D2.
Ofcourse, with WM6.5 on the way, it's possible I'll have to agree with you and shut down TF3D2 ... I'm pretty sure HTC will release a new version of TF3D2 when it's out though !
We'll see who's right in a few months ... but for now, TF3D2 is the way to go !
2. Why give up on such a great modification of HTC ?
It combines the usability of WM with a touch (literally) of gloss ... AND functionality.
The new people centric way of working is just awesome for example .. and it's not the only thing.
But nevertheless .. I have to agree ... it takes away some standard functionality of (compared to other mobile OS's) strong WM.
On the other hand, it adds lots of it ... meaning with a small number of bugfixes, it CAN be awesome (which WM standard is NOT).
Greets
I'm perfectly capable of using the standard WM6.1 without a stylus 90% of the time. I understand people with big hands might not though. The "People-centric" thing in TF3D isn't something I use to be honest, I've never needed to see all the different means I've used of communicating with a specific person. *shrug*.
Compare to this: Without TF3D, my today screen now gives me the following info, all WITHOUT EVEN TOUCHING THE PHONE except to turn it on...
Current playing music: artist, album, track, track number
All upcoming appointments
How many unread messages I have in each email account and in SMS/MMS
How many unread RSS headlines
The date and day of the week and time
A list of my outstanding todos
What scheduled direct debits and standing orders are due o my bank accounts
My current status in Windows Messenger
A Live Search bar
A Tomtom button
And that's just for starters, I could add tons more just by downloading plugins.
That is a shedload more functionality than TF3D.
BUT - I'm not saying everyone should ditch TF3D - some people value gloss over functionality, and that's why the iPhone is selling so well.
Some people might value this people-centric thing over knowing what todos they have or what music they're listening to. That's fine!
You got me on one point though ... Windows' customizability.
That's something you'll have to lose when using TF3D2.
-I don't use my mobile as a music player for now (will do that when I receive the USB to audio jack to connect it to my car's audio).
-I never use RSS
-I can see the amount of mails / SMS's I received.
-Upcoming appointments ... I can understand people complaining when they're only able to view the ones from the current and the next day.
On the otherhand, that list would be larger than one complete screen, so no biggy here for me.
A list of appointments is inconvenient and not structured enough.
That is why I liked the week view of WM ... and that's a great miss in TF3D2 in my case !
- I include a reminder for my todo's (tasks) ... otherwise I will still forget things ... I'm not the kind of person who checks the task list enough ... the reminders work for me.
- Don't use Messenger on my mobile ... it would drive me nuts ... I spend enough time reading my mails
- I rather prefer the Opera toolbar if I want to search for information, so no live search for me.
- Tomtom button ... could be handy indeed !
I just like the 'tabs' working way.
It gets you information you want in a structured manner.
If I list the weather, the number of missed calls, the time, my appointments, mails, todo's, ... all on one screen .. I'll get lost ... just too many TEXT on one screen !
That's why I like the tabs.
But to completely compare ... I should try to use it without TF3D for one week.
Maybe I'll write my plugins for the home screen one day ... to adapt them to my personal needs ..
But indeed ... I'm also waiting for the WM 6.5 release ... one of the reasons why I bought this phone.
Greets
Awhile ago, I posted this thread:

No one has given a viable response to it in 4 months.
Now my phone is actually breaking down. It's running extremely slowly, even on high performance. I still can't access any other skins or themes because the problem in the other thread persists. When I view text messages, they appear blank the second time I open the text message application and I need to restart the application after closing it in the task manager to read them.
I want to fix my phone. I want to flash, hack, do whatever's needed to change it and improve it. I've never flashed it before and I haven't done anything to this smartphone ever since I received it. It is not acting like a smartphone at all right now and I need to fix it.
Unfortunately I can't find any help on this forums. Where do I start? I've been to the Wiki and all it gives me is details on what to do with no starting point or references. I want to reformat, flash, whatever this phone so that I can switch between different themes and OS' on it. I can't do that right now because I don't know how.
My phone is the Samsung i8000 and I'm running Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional (CE OS 5.2.21856(Build 21856.5.0.65)). Please help me.
EDIT: After running a format through the hard reset, my text messaging is fixed and the phone seems to be back up to speed. I'm still unfortunately having problems accessing any sort of Windows Mobile themes though, as seen in this thread(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=781137).
Hi, as an owner of the Omnia II (i8000) I found the Modaco forum very useful, have a look!

It appears that you have problems with memories. We must close the applications as and by long pressing the middle button, or assign "close" to the cross in the top cooin: go to settings, regional settings, then click "button" select "button X "and activate it to really close the programs and no longer turn in the background
