How To Remove Internet Explorer - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Does anyone know how to remove IE permanently?
My children play a lot with my phone and I don’t want them to have internet access. On the contrary I still want to receive email through GPRS
i would be happy if any one can help

you can remove the shortcuts but not the files themselfs as it's inside the rom

How can you remove the shortcuts?
Or is there any piece of software that can disable it?

\windows\start menu\
there you will find both the start menu and programs
you cant disable gprs for only some programs unless you use the 3th party firewall app
as which program init the connection is transparent for the device

can i Disable it complletly?

you can try to rename the exe file the shortcut points to in windows\ but it could cause the pda to crash if files associated with it are launched
or you could just disable gprs when you are not using it

Try using the NoData cab. Just install it and it will create a shortcut icon. When you want your internet diabled click on the icon. This will prevent the kids from using Internet. Then when you need internet, just click the shortcut again,,, and your access will be restored.

I have some problems with JAM

Vodafone UK - ROM 1.06 - I-mate Jam
I just bought my JAM two days ago... and I have these questions that need to be solve, pls help if u can...
1. More than often, when I go to settings, if I switch between tabs in here (personal, system, connection), the message: Backup battery is very low (it is 100% full).. then it freeze the unit, I have to do a soft reset - how do I fix this? Is it one of ROM 1.06 bug?
2. Can we assign mp3 as ringtone?
3. How can I disable GPRS? I only need GSM
4. Does it have any ROM user accessible? - I see a folder Storage but not sure if its RAM or ROM?
5. When I use cable to sync with my laptop, I couldn't use the internet on the JAM? When I try to open a webpage from IE, it will try to connect using Vodafone GPRS. Eventhough my worldmate still get the weather update, and the antivirus program still check its update. So how do I use the internet from the JAM?
Thanks a lot.
now I just installed the Bluetooth patch... and now bluetooth incon doesn't show up in Today screen... what should I do?
I will try to answer some, as I have a jam on voda (from expansys)

I do not get this issue at all, I have the 1.06.00WWE rom.
2. Can we assign mp3 as ringtone?
Yes, copy the mp3 to windows/ring and it will be available in the pull down under phone options. There is also a cab file here http://www.pocketgear.com/ppcw/software_detail.asp?id=16569 that will let you hold down on an mp3 and select it as ringtone (auto copies it to windows/ring) you can also do a reg edit to store ring tones on the storage card, and the photo view app will let you assign individual tones to different callers (inc. mp3)
3. How can I disable GPRS? I only need GSM
Well, if you just want to stop GPRS connecting hold down the red button, if you want to delete it completely delete the profiles under start, settings, connections, connections, manage existing connections.
4. Does it have any ROM user accessible? - I see a folder Storage but not sure if its RAM or ROM?
I think that is UA ROM but im not 100%

Im not sure, I havent tried this. I think it might be something to do with allowing internet passthrough in activesync but I am not sure.

Disable/Hide 'Lock' icon on Qtek 9100

Hi all
Does anyone know how i can disable or hide the 'Lock' icon in the 'Settings' program group??
We are rolling out a large number of Qtek9100 in our workplace and have a requirement to set a password on the devices and then disable the 'Lock' icon so that users cannot turn off password.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Why not incorporate a dummy password protect control panel, using redirect?
Check out the MSN tutorial/SDK.

Dummy Password Protect Control Panel
Hi
Thanks for the prompt reply.
Could you give me a bit more advice about a dummy password protect control panel with redirect please.
What is the url for msn tutorial/sdk??
Thanks again
if you download tweaks2k2 it will let you disable the password panel in settings to prevent your users changing the password or it can be done in the registry manually if you have the time.

Hi Rob61280
Thanks for the advice
Do you perchance know the registry setting that i would need to change to hide/disable 'lock' icon.
I think if i installed tweaks2k2 then users could use it to change the settings.
MavrickDX
I think you can unistall tweaks2k2 and the settings stay as you set them.
I'll have a look at the registry and see if there is an easy way to redirect the password applet so it doesnt function (there was a contrast applet you could enable using a similar method).
Rob
I've still not found a redirect (it may not be possible through the registry alone but i will keep looking)
there is however a useful function :-
"Enable policy restrictions (Pocket PC 2002)
Pocket PC 2002 devices includes a system policy system to prevent users from downloading and installing new programs via Pocket Internet Explorer, Inbox, File Explorer, ActiveSync or beaming between devices or renaming files.
Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\AdminPassword\
Rename the "Redirect" value to "xRedirect"
Soft reset and go to Start > Settings > System tab > Policy applet to set the policy restriction on the device."
from http://palmare.idnes.cz/PocketPC_WinCE/WinCE_Utility/tweaks020913.html
This works on wm5 as well
Rob
Redirect will not work
I Browsed to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\
then renamed password to xpassword
then softreset
this disabled the original lock applet
but
another is created in the system tab
anyone any idea how to prevent the applet from being recreated using the registry?
R
Hi Rob61280
Many thanks for all the work you have put in.
I will try the tweaks2k2 tool and see if i can hide/disable lock icon and then uninstall tweaks2k2 and see if settings hold.
And I thought PDA's were just for a bit of fun

Running files from network

I'm new to windows mobile, but been using my P3600 for 2 weeks and the thing that is anoying is not being able to run files directly from a network path. (the lack of a task manager was more anoying but it's solved).
I want to be able to browse fotos on a network path, or run a cab file on a network without having to copy files to device or storage card.
Do I need a 3rd party software? Can I map a location to a drive?
Pretty sure that a 3rd party app. is necessary; at least I've never seen a way to do what you want without a such.
Resco Explorer is an example of such an app. It has the functionality to allocate and access a shared drive on e.g. a PC: http://www.resco.net/
There are probably other apps. that can do the same, but I have only used Resco myself.
I've tried Resco but could never get it to find my computer....Is there anyway of setting a workgroup name within resco?
Thanks

Just to be sure what you mean:
When you say that Resco can't find your computer, does this mean that the computer is not shown under 'My Network'?
I can't actually see my computer under 'My Network', but when I use the 'Map Drive...' option, then it shows up under 'Computers Near Me', and in the window under the 'Map Drive...' there is also the possibility to enter the network path for the shared drive, i.e. like \\MYPC\drive, and then press the 'Share' button after which I'm promted for the user and password to use for logging on to the PC.
I have never had to use a Workgroup name to make it work.
Yea it doesant show in the box but when i type in where its located
\\MAIN\Shared
It comes up with cannot map network path.
Ive got it fine uisng my laptop to my main pc using the above (\\MAIN\Shared)
Just cant seem to get it to map the drive within resco...I thought it would of had something to do with the workgroup.
Thanks anyways
ill keep trying see if i can get it to work.
Just a thought:
Are you sure that the phone and the PC are in the same IP subnet?
Ahhhh....How would i find this out......is it something along the lines of 255.255
I've set it to auto detect within resco......i suspect this may be the problem
Thanks
You can find the IP address of the phone in Start->Settings->Connections->Wireless LAN under the Advanced tab.
If you compare it to the IP address of the PC, then the first 3 parts of the addresses should be the same for them to be in the same subnet.
Ahh got it to work now that was the problem ...thanks alot Its much appreciated

Look for NetUse in the list.
"It allows you to freely browse your local network on your Pocket PC. Basically it does the same thing Resco viewer does, but for free."
With resco is it possible to play audio files from a network with WMP?
Not that I have spend a lot of time trying, but I haven't been able to play an audio file from a network drive with WMP.
It seems to me that WMP can't actually access such a drive, but as mentioned, I haven't spend much time with WMP since I'm using TCPMP, and with this it certainly is possible to play a file on a network drive.
Staying with netuse
I'm using netuse, and it's just what I needed and I recommend it to everybody that doesn't need all the features resco has, because it's a free solution.
Anyway WMP or builtin photo viewer can't access files on network. I need to use another video player and picture viewer.
can someone post a guide for netuse
Netuse doesn't work for me, it sees my MSHOME network but i can acces a path.
gr jeroen
using netuse
You just add the adress of shared folders on your network (as you would in a desktop computer) and those folders apear as local subfolders on a network folder on the device.
- On options "show the network folder" should be enable and you can type in your default domain (should work without it).
- If you're not able to access folders anyway it's probably a network problem ( firewall, etc.)

THIS IS How to get VOIP Working with 3G on Wm6 Trinity

I have seen numerous posts on this and alot of depressed people trying to get VOIP working with 3G on their trinity, after alot of forum reading and testing I have found a bulletproof solution. It lets you configure your SIP settings, you can make calls and receive calls and hear and people can hear you over wifi and 3G. However, I cannot get incoming calls to ring at all when using 3G only (it works with WIFI flawlessly). So basically unfortunately VOIP as it is now with wm6 only lets you make VOIP over 3G (you cannot receive calls as it just doesnt ring, I suspect it is a firewall issue as over wifi it doesnt ring till I open up ports on my router).
First install the first VOIP file, it has sip config built it. YAY lol
Now you need a cab extractor program like wince manager, which you can download for free www.ocpsoftware.com/products.php?nm=cecabmgr
Now extract the rtc.dll file in the second cab I have attached and copy it to your windows folder and overwrite the one currently there. Without the dll file VOIP works but u cannot hear anything when the other party talks. Once you overwrite this dll, and u have to use Resco file explorer or similar, then VOIP works 100%. Ofcourse you have to run sipconfig, and enable VOIP over 3g and put in your SIP settings
Thats it. Pretty easy fix right

tks
Thanks my friend.
Nadavi
Thanks firstly
The second cab isnt containing any dll
Dear mcq3000
Can you share with us which VoIP provider you tested this method with, and can you post your dialplan?
Thanks
I did everything that is described in this thread.
On the today-screen it says my accountname and available. But how can I make a voipcall then?
I use MUNs 2.01 TE ROM.

Just click once on the today plugin and "available" will change to "selected"
Then make a call as usual and you'll see your voip network name instead of the gsm carrier.
Thanks!
I reinstalled the files from above now, and now it only says on the today-screen:
"Internet Calling: No Service"
It seems, that voip does not connect at all now.
When I click on this line, it opens the Internet Calling settings page of the phone.
where is the interest of VoIP over 3G ? i think about cost ...

In Saudi Arabia, you can get unlimited HSDPA for 100 dollars per month.
Why I can't find any dll inside the wm5voip.cab ?
with skypho.net it doesn't work, it tells me "Skypho:no service", and if I make a phone call him it activates the gsm Does someone succeed us?
the rtc.dll was not cancelled but I has glued him above, this ok?
thanks for any suggestion
to open the cab and extract the file you need to use wince cab manager program. You cannot just open cab with winrar to see contents, those arent the real file contents. Get Wince cab manager and install it and open cab with that program and you will see dll and you can extract dll.

in fact I have used wince cab manager,
can be that with Skypho.net it has in anymore this configuration stun?
Dominio voip.eutelia.it
Sip Proxy Server voip.eutelia.it
Sip Proxy Socket 5060
Stun Server stun.voip.eutelia.it
Stun Server Socket 3478
also tried with Stun but nothing.
and also activated the door 5060 from the register on 1 in voip sip.
Do I have to change telephone manager?
thanks still

Sorry - just looking for solid confirmation - been tearing my hair out to get this working. I install the VM VI Black VOIP & Config.CAB on my phone and replace the rtcdll.dll file once extracted from WM6VoIP.CAB using resco explorer. when you refer to fist and second files - it's better to specify file names to be sure we're all singing from the same songsheet!

Any utility to kill Media Net data connection on HTC Diamond?

I need a utility that I can call from Mortscript to terminate existing Media Net data connection. From Mortscript manual, the "Disconnect" command does not work any more after WM5 AKU3. I confirmed that this is true. Does anyone know a solution?
Thanks in advance.
Do you want to kill it after you use it, or kill it so you can't use it?
the second is a lot simpler, I use the Modaco NoData Cab as well as schap's advanced configuration tool to block all internet communications except for wifi.

The 1st. It is mainly for iGuidance scripting. With data connection open, iGuidance takes forever to launch. So in the mortscript, I want to terminate the Media Net data connection before launching the iGuidance.
NoData Connection
Hi there .... well I can see you losing money over the automatic data connection .... here is the solution application called NoData.cab ... look for it and it is what I use for now .... it is the best.
NoData: where you can toggle your connections
Instead of doing all that, you can set the data connection's DNS and ALT DNS servers to a fake value. It works for me and iGuidance starts up even with data enabled.
