I have some problems with JAM - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Vodafone UK - ROM 1.06 - I-mate Jam
I just bought my JAM two days ago... and I have these questions that need to be solve, pls help if u can...
1. More than often, when I go to settings, if I switch between tabs in here (personal, system, connection), the message: Backup battery is very low (it is 100% full).. then it freeze the unit, I have to do a soft reset - how do I fix this? Is it one of ROM 1.06 bug?
2. Can we assign mp3 as ringtone?
3. How can I disable GPRS? I only need GSM
4. Does it have any ROM user accessible? - I see a folder Storage but not sure if its RAM or ROM?
5. When I use cable to sync with my laptop, I couldn't use the internet on the JAM? When I try to open a webpage from IE, it will try to connect using Vodafone GPRS. Eventhough my worldmate still get the weather update, and the antivirus program still check its update. So how do I use the internet from the JAM?
Thanks a lot.

now I just installed the Bluetooth patch... and now bluetooth incon doesn't show up in Today screen... what should I do?

I will try to answer some, as I have a jam on voda (from expansys)

I do not get this issue at all, I have the 1.06.00WWE rom.
2. Can we assign mp3 as ringtone?
Yes, copy the mp3 to windows/ring and it will be available in the pull down under phone options. There is also a cab file here http://www.pocketgear.com/ppcw/software_detail.asp?id=16569 that will let you hold down on an mp3 and select it as ringtone (auto copies it to windows/ring) you can also do a reg edit to store ring tones on the storage card, and the photo view app will let you assign individual tones to different callers (inc. mp3)
3. How can I disable GPRS? I only need GSM
Well, if you just want to stop GPRS connecting hold down the red button, if you want to delete it completely delete the profiles under start, settings, connections, connections, manage existing connections.
4. Does it have any ROM user accessible? - I see a folder Storage but not sure if its RAM or ROM?
I think that is UA ROM but im not 100%

Im not sure, I havent tried this. I think it might be something to do with allowing internet passthrough in activesync but I am not sure.
HTH!

ActiveSync Auto Starts By Itself in Running Programs

Hi Guys
I have the JJ working well, and I have always seemed to have this problem, but the ActiveSync always just starts up by itself without being connected or requested to.
I have read a few forums on this but nothing really helped. My original thought was SPB Weather wanting to auto update, but any changes to these settings didnt help.
I have done a full hard reset today, and keeped the apps pretty straight forward, ie the SPB suite (PP, Diary, Play, Weather, GPRS), and Resco (Explorer, Audio, Radio, Photo). Switched to MSVC rather than the original phone dialler. The rest is pretty much as it has come.
I havent done any registry hacks yet as I thought I would test a clean run on this to see how it goes.
I have read that ActiveSync is a big drain on the memory, and never likes to give all the memory back from what it needs when starting up, so every time I kill it in running programs, it comes back. I get about 600kb every time I kill it, but I am sure it takes more than that to run and start it.
Anyway, any ideas as to what might be causing it to startup by iteslf would be great. Further ideas on how to stop it from automatically starting would be wonderful.
activesync autostart
doesnt anybody have any comments or feedback as to their experiences with activesync auto starting of it own accord? it constantly needs to be shut down from running programs.
Does it happen to you? does it not happen to you? do you know what the cause is? do you know how to fix it?
anybody?
Simon, I have no major issues with activesync running.
Are you saying that AS is popping up even from hard reset?
Ensure that you're not running an RSS reader etc, I use Newsbreak and it loves to try to connect up to the 'net.
It seems that it is likely to be the weather, or possibly gprs prog, that is requesting access to a net connection. Try disabling the weather app completely. I use weather panel, and it took some arm twisting to get it to stop automatically seeking out a net connection.
Worst case, set up a spoof or dummy network connection that is unable to connect to the net. Set this as your default connection when you're offline, and then any progs trying to access the net will be thwarted. This solution at least works perfectly for me with Newsbreak for reading the news "offline".

I had the same problem with my JJ and I found a setting ("Schedule") in AS on the JJ that allowed me to set the syn to "Manual". Funny, I've not this problem on my Exec.
hi
this happens as AS is by default required to connect to server automatically at a given interval
inorder to get rid of this...go into AS and create a fake server (put any values) then after creating it..reclick options and go into schedule and change the settings to manual sync and check the roam box aswell
tht shod take care of it
Thanks zohaer21 and jah
I will let you know how it goes, it was more frustrating than anything, not sure if it is the cause of my memory drain. I knew of sync manually option somewhere from my 2003 days, but since I didnt setup a sync with a server connection, the ability to set a schedule was always greyed out.
I'll see how long it takes, if at all before it pops up again.
Cheers
Simon

@Betox, from what I remember you need to be linked via AS to your PC/laptop and then from either the JJ or the PC you should be able to change the Schedule to "manual".
JJ & AS
worked perfectly thanks people for your help.
create the dummy server sync, set the sync connections to manual.
delete the server sync.
havent seen head nor tail of activesync since.

A couple of questions...

How do I get rid of that daft 02 logo in the title bar that you can drag along. It has a menu that says mobile web and a few other things. Is it something in teh startup ? I removed the O2 active from the startup but there is an 02 prog that says connections or something.
Just installed a router so my son can use his psp. always just used a pci wifi card before to connect anything to the net. I now have the net running fine on my wizard and the psp, but can i browse my shared pc files through the router or do I have to use the pci wifi card ? The pc with the shared files is connected directly to the router via lan cable.
Also when connecting to my wifi, I keep getting hotmail messages appearing even after delete. I now have a trash can full of 2 lots of the same messages and now its just downloaded them to my wizzard again. I select all to delete and they go from the inbox, but then next time I connect it downloads them all again. Is it not deleting them from the server or something ?
can only answer the first one I'm afraid as I havn't had the other issues you mention but see this link for how to remove the O2 nastiness. Its easiest to remove all the O2 rubbish in one go, I tried removing 'O2 active' from startup as well but it wasn't sufficient, its a much faster handheld once you remove the O2 stuff!

Other posts to help you:
OK, i did a hard reset then a soft reset to prevent th O2 stuff installing.
I then installed some of the ext_rom files with help from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=34488
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=34611&highlight=
Then i added the settings i got from O2 UK Pay monthly:

There must be a reg hack or a prog to remove that will get rid of that silly 02 prog on the taskbar without having to hard reset ?
there may well be but at the same time, active sync will backup all your contacts, calendar and files which should allow you to do a factory reset but not loose anything, simply resync once your through the reset.
Dont want to hard reset now, my device is starting to take shape. Will just see how it goes and maybe someone will find out how to get rid of it.

Try these to open shared folder at remote PC from Wizard over WiFi (names might differ coz I'm using localized version of WM5):
1) Run "Explorer" on your Wizard
2) Open "Menu" and point to "Open Path...[A]"
3) Choose "New path...[A]" and enter your PC's name there as "\\PCNAME" or the entire path to shared folder like "\\PCNAME\FOLDER1" (to reveal your PC's name open "My Computer" properties and look at "Computer name" tab in "Full computer name" field. PC's name will be text before the first dot, ex: pcname.somewhere.net.work, i.e. name = pcname)

You are having default behaviour of "Inbox" message removal. Which is "Delete manually". All you need to do after deleting your message is:
1) Delete your messages like you always do
2) Choose "Empty Deleted items" from your "Menu" of "Messaging"
3) Choose "Send & Receive"

Need settings for O2 gprs

Hi,
The long and short of my tale is that my XDAIIi connects to GPRS but can not download email or browse the web. I believe this is because it keeps connecting to GRPS(O2 Active) and I think it needs to connect to GPRS (Mobile Web). Any ideas why this may be? I've tried altering various things but it keeps connecting to O2 Active which I think is incorrect.
I removed O2 Active but maybe having that would let me reset the settings. Is there a place I can download this from as I do not have my installation CD.
Thanks,
James.
If you search, you'll find cab files for all networks and types.
Just download the cab and copy of the PDA and run it from the PDA it'll install all the details for you.
Simple as.
Nice one. Thanks.

Sending files via bluetooth

Hi i wonder if anyone can help,
Now i seem to have had this problem with every HTC phones i have used (XDA orbit, steller, mini) and now my HTC HD2. why cant anyone send me files, pictures, music anything via bluetooth. We get all paired up and eeverything but when they send it to me it just comes up connection failed?
Now i know my bluetooth works on all me phones as i sync at work and have handsfree in the car, so i can only assume its settings but i have look at all of it and cant figure where im going wrong?
thanks in advanced
shane
Hmmm . . .
Do you click "Accept" for the file transfere ? (Bottom left of screen (soft-key))
(After accepting the conneciton, the file transfer itself needs to be accepted as well)
Besides that - to transfer files from my computer, I had to enable the file transfer protocol:
Settings->menu->all settings->bluetooth->"Gears" tab<left most tab ***>->Advanced<+> ->File transfer->allow incoming file transfer

It never gets that far, i dont get the option to accept, on my mates phone it just says connection failed. i dont get anything on my screen, but we are paired up so its not like they cant find me phone etc. it just says connection failed, when they try to send it to me. i have also left all visibilty etc on, and even keep my phone ruuning (i.e. not standby) and still no luck.

I have tried this option with the paired phones, but again no luck, however i have no problem sharing pictures etc from my PC. sending files etc via bluetooth and my computer at work, works fine. its just people sending files etc from other mobiles???
this is what is confusing me, but i have had the problem on all xda's i have had, so there must be another setting.
cheers
No one has any ideas then?? its bugging me now
Can't help you mate.
All I can say is that on all my HTC phones (Diamond, HD & now HD2), it's worked fine - never had a problem.
I also had this very same problem. I have a Kaiser (vodafone v1615) and i was able to send files via bluetooth, but not to receive them. Then i found this thread and now the thing is working:
http://forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?t=227899
Basically the solution is:
TIP: Make sure you enable “Receive all incoming beams” if you want to receive files / PIM records over Bluetooth on Pocket PC’s with the Microsoft Bluetooth stack!
Click to collapse
This can be done in "start menu"->"settings"->"connections" tab->"Beam"
Just that simple check.
Let me know if this works for you.
I have this exact same problem! Unfortunately the quote above only applies to Wm6.1 and below that use the microsoft bluetooth stack.
On this occasion HTC have plumped for their own buggy version.
see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=585081
I think there is some conflict between obex push and obex file transfer. I have a toshiba bluetooth stack on my winxp install and the bluex utils on my linux partition. Neither of them work anymore on wm6.5 whereas they did on my wm6.1 polaris.
i dont have a connections tab on the HTC HD2, well i have a connections page but i dont have beam as a option??

You wont have "beam". "Beam is part of the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack. The HD2 has the widcomm stack.

Ok but im guessing then that no body can help or even have the same problem??
well, I may be a few months late, but here's my solution, at least it might help new HD2 users:
go to settings tab, choose "all settings" from the right menu button
choose bluetooth, and then click on the settings tab (the one with cog wheels) make your device dicoverable, then from advanced>connectivity>remove the check mark if you don't have your friends' de3vices paired with yours.
finallyadvanced>file transfer>check: allow incoming file transfer connections.
to make this a bit faster you can browse your windows library via file explorer and create a shortcut for the bluetooth program in the start menu (this will also enable you to add a shortcut in the manila today
hope this helps

thx, but cannot overwrite the repllog.exe because its a room file.
used resco file explorer.
Any other ideas?
Bump for help. help people
When you connect your phone to your pc select 'disc drive' instead of ActiveSync on your phone. Next time you connect it is set to 'disc drive' automatically. You can use it as ... disc drive ;-) and it won't try to synchronize.
Thats wrong avtivesync turns also on internet connection thru provider.
