yeah.. i kno.. thanx for the reply but i think u miss understood me, kroptov.. wat i want is to "see" (which am able to do) and also "write/add files" (wat i WANT to do) to the partition using card export/pc.. thanx..
I cearely understand you. Using Siftic, you can use your mobile device as "card reader" so you can read and write files to all partitions, include hidden partition. try the last wersion of softic.

Sergei
oh! :? am using the latest version 2.16.. its not writable.. says its a read-only memory.. memory card is workin perfectly..
Baddy, the latest version 2.17
http://www.softick.com/download_script.php?prog_version_id=55&site_type=1
sorry, my bad abt the version.. but even wen i update, its stil the same.. "the disk is write protected.. remove the write protection or use another disk.."
No ideas.... I use WM5Storage. I can write files to it, but in this case the partition is visible from both devices.
By the way, you can use the special software to create hidden (and encrypted) disk on your pda.

Cannot delete file with question mark in it

Somehow an installation file became named PocketPuTTY_WM2k3_release_?007-02-28.zip I don't know how the question mark got there, but now it won't let me delete it. What do I do? Won't let me rename it, either. Total Commander doesn't work either.
Sounds like it is corrupt. Have you tried a soft reset?

If you mean holding down the power button and restarting it, then yes.
When I try to rename it to remove the question mark, it says "A file name cannot contain any of the following characters: \/:*?"<>|"
Can anyone help me with this? The file is named PocketPuTTY_WM2k3_release_?007-02-28.zip
Hi endolith,
Is the file on the device or on the memory card, if it's on the memory card then copy everything onto your PC and format the card then copy it all back.
Just a thought.

Yeah it's on the device. I downloaded a thing that turns the device memory into a USB storage device, and I can access it in Linux and see the bytes, but can't mount it as a drive. I think it's not formatted with a normal file system.

That's a good idea to use WM5torage to try and delete it.
You could try deleting it with Total Commander for Pocket PC but if that fails it may be hard reset time. Perhaps that would be the best thing anyway as I had a problem similar to this on the MiniSD card and never trusted it again until I formatted it but it seems like a drastic measure just to remove one file.
Good luck.

Tried that too. I wonder if there's another file manager that can do lower-level things.

Maybe I can use WM5torage read/write and use a byte editor? Or maybe there's a low-level memory editor available for WM5.
Yes, indeed, if you can find something that will alter the file allocation table then perhaps you could replace the dodgy character in the file name, leave the hard reset as a last resort.
Use a MiniSD card reader or WM5Storage and use the MSDOS commandline interface to delete the file by using wildcards.
e.g., from start/run/cmd.exe
Code:
z: (or whatever drive your SD card is in)
cd "\directory name\with quotations\if you use spaces"
del PocketPutty*.zip

WM5torage doesn't seem to be able to turn the main memory into a drive, though. It creates 3 partitions, but none of them seem to be mountable.

Auto.exe and autorun.inf on sdcard

Since I have flashed a certain rom which I don't remember of, I keep having two files on my sd card (auto.exe and autorun.inf) I can't delete no matter what I try they always come back (format SD, delete via terminal, delete via antivir)...
Problem is that antivir tells me they contain trojans, does someone have information about that files ? Am I the only one with these files on my SD ?
I bet you are seeing them whenever you plug your phone into your pc and browse the sdcard. This is when the virus on your PC is creating the new files on your sdcard.
It was not the rom that caused the problem. Your pc is infected and as soon as you plug a drive in that has write access to it the virus writes those files to it to try and replicate itself. I bet if you plug a usb drive into your computer it will do the very same thing.
Install a decent antivirus package on your pc and/or a few of the many free antivirus scanners on the web.
Solve the problem

My brother has the same problem with a pendrive on a Mac, the solution is delete the files like root user, from a Linux or UNIX system works, I don't know how to do the same on Windows.

is it a virus?

recently i mount my phone n sd card to a comp. after mount,i saw that my folders make duplicate of itself with the name -.exe. ( music.exe) . since then,my phone have start to reboot itself really often. i really need help here to what i can do to fix this. tq
xperia x8 proud owner
Yes, it's a virus.. :s
Edit: it's not an android virus, it only infects windows. You are probably getting random reboots becase the virus changed the names of important files on the sd
What it usualy does is hides your real files/folders and creates shortcuts with the same names linked to an exe.
Best way to get rid of it is formatting the sd or desinfecting it with an anti-virus on a computer. Be carefull because the virus also creates an autorun.ini that runs an exe as soon you connect the sd to the computer
Sent from my E15i using XDA App
so i just need to format my sd,not my whole phone (system, etc) right?

yes it is better you format your sd card and your pc, ie c drive (which ever folder windows is on) and re install windows again.
This is a very very old virus, you must have clicked on some exe file that had this virus
if i format my sd, wat will happen to my root, xrecovery n custom rom? do i need to use pc companion, get eclair 2.1 and then format it?

No, but you lose all apps stored on sd card and all your xrecovery or cwm backups. And everything on the sd card like music and photos.
Copy your backups to a not-infected PC or a USB stick, then you won´t loose them

You can boot into Linux, and connect SD card to PC. Then delete all exe files and autorun file.
Reboot to Windows, connect card again. Go to cmd and remove system and hidden attribute from all files/folders. Keep in mind that you will maybe have to swap the order of removing attributes (-H -S or -S -H).
Command should be:
Code:
> attrib -H -S X: /S /D
where X is your SD card letter in Windows Explorer.
That's how I was fixing it on my friend's USB memories and cards.
I experienced that. What i did was searched ".exe" using root explorer in my phone and it will load all the exe. Actually its just the folder name since you dont need exe of androids so i delete it all and after that i search for autorun.ini and delete it also that solves my problem. That easy.

I think the virus infects all kids of partitions and external devices so be careful if you have more than just one partition on your computer.
Also, warn the owner of the infected pc so he/she can do something about it
I think that it's the virus called brontok
You can scan your SD and your PC with that program called Malwarebytes at free edition destroys all worms from your disks for sure try it and tell me if it worked!!

problem with new memory card

i got a new 8gb card for my phone today copy all the old stuff off the old one and put the new one in but having problems with it phone wont detect it correctly just saying preparing sd card testing for errors and thats it tried a few reformats and reinstalls of the os but still the same.
does the phone detect the empty sd-card?
try to create folder or smth like that on the empty sd-card in the phone
before format sd-card and put it in phone, try to detect empty one
(maybe restart phone and let it detect from new sd-card (empty one))
then create there a folder or just copy data on it and try again (dont know what you did until now maybe you already done smth like that then i don't know too atm)
or let the phone format the new sd-card that should normally work!
-> put new sd-card in
-> let phone format it
-> reboot
-> try to access sd-card and create a folder if you want or copy data on it
got it to work fine now but every time i try to transfer a large file via usb i get a read i/o error message on the computer then the phone wont detect the card again untill i delete this file
usb debugging is disabled
file size ? and what kind of system are you using?
both a 599mb and 634mb avi files both give me this read i/o error
my phones running froyobread v023b on stock kernal
did you try same with old sd-card ? (if it has more than 1gb you can try)
if you get same error it's not the roms fault
i use froyopro and i copy 1gb file atm but i think i dont get error...
can you post the error somehow? got a camera to make a photo or smth like that? or just write what it says
here is what i get
if you search for that error there are many ppl with those problems you could try to find a way to solve it buy using google
you can also try reboot your pc and try to copy data again sometimes that solves problems
also it could be that it's a error because of the cable you connect your phone to pc
(try out old sd-card and copy files if same problem exist) it's not because of the phone
can you copy smaller files to the sd-card?
thanks it seems to be behaving now just copied a few large files and its working correctly now to fill up some my my 8gb sandisk ultra fast
your hdd can also cause i/o erros when you try copy files so just don't think if it doesn't work the sd-card is not good.
causes can be:
HDD,cable, usb port, system error,or sd-card error,or sd-card reader in phone. software from phone and so on so it's hard to find where it the problem ...
mine did this too, but a format and a reset resolved the problem
