http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=52205

yeah.. i kno.. thanx for the reply but i think u miss understood me, kroptov.. wat i want is to "see" (which am able to do) and also "write/add files" (wat i WANT to do) to the partition using card export/pc.. thanx..
I cearely understand you. Using Siftic, you can use your mobile device as "card reader" so you can read and write files to all partitions, include hidden partition. try the last wersion of softic.

Sergei
oh! :? am using the latest version 2.16.. its not writable.. says its a read-only memory.. memory card is workin perfectly..
Baddy, the latest version 2.17
http://www.softick.com/download_script.php?prog_version_id=55&site_type=1
sorry, my bad abt the version.. but even wen i update, its stil the same.. "the disk is write protected.. remove the write protection or use another disk.."
No ideas.... I use WM5Storage. I can write files to it, but in this case the partition is visible from both devices.
By the way, you can use the special software to create hidden (and encrypted) disk on your pda.

Somehow an installation file became named PocketPuTTY_WM2k3_release_?007-02-28.zip I don't know how the question mark got there, but now it won't let me delete it. What do I do? Won't let me rename it, either. Total Commander doesn't work either.
Sounds like it is corrupt. Have you tried a soft reset?

If you mean holding down the power button and restarting it, then yes.
When I try to rename it to remove the question mark, it says "A file name cannot contain any of the following characters: \/:*?"<>|"
Can anyone help me with this? The file is named PocketPuTTY_WM2k3_release_?007-02-28.zip
Hi endolith,
Is the file on the device or on the memory card, if it's on the memory card then copy everything onto your PC and format the card then copy it all back.
Just a thought.

Yeah it's on the device. I downloaded a thing that turns the device memory into a USB storage device, and I can access it in Linux and see the bytes, but can't mount it as a drive. I think it's not formatted with a normal file system.

That's a good idea to use WM5torage to try and delete it.
You could try deleting it with Total Commander for Pocket PC but if that fails it may be hard reset time. Perhaps that would be the best thing anyway as I had a problem similar to this on the MiniSD card and never trusted it again until I formatted it but it seems like a drastic measure just to remove one file.
Good luck.

Tried that too. I wonder if there's another file manager that can do lower-level things.

Maybe I can use WM5torage read/write and use a byte editor? Or maybe there's a low-level memory editor available for WM5.
Yes, indeed, if you can find something that will alter the file allocation table then perhaps you could replace the dodgy character in the file name, leave the hard reset as a last resort.
Use a MiniSD card reader or WM5Storage and use the MSDOS commandline interface to delete the file by using wildcards.
e.g., from start/run/cmd.exe
Code:
z: (or whatever drive your SD card is in)
cd "\directory name\with quotations\if you use spaces"
del PocketPutty*.zip

WM5torage doesn't seem to be able to turn the main memory into a drive, though. It creates 3 partitions, but none of them seem to be mountable.
I think we must add a note in the wiki...
Some users, like me, have tried to flash via SD card without success.
This guide is correct, but some SD cards are not too fast, so when you start in flash mode, pda doesn't read SD and goes to next step (vertical colored bars).
To solve this problem I've used WM5torage, just deselect all voices (Read-Only, Removable Class and Lock card), then I've connected my pda to PC.
Windows XP reads this drive like a fisical drive (not removable) so it is possible create, resize or delete partitions.
In disk manager I've deleted principal partition then I've created a new one with size=256MB
With this size my slow SD needs less power and it's so fast to start in flash mode!!!
Great notice man.
This method worked! Thanks!Спосибо,Merci,Grazie,Gracias....
Please explain this method.Step by step.I hope it'll working for me.

1) install WM5torage in your pda
2) start the program
3) deselect all voices in the panel (expecially Removable Class)
4) connect your pda with PC via USB
In this way windows read the SecureDigital as a fisical disk, so you can create, resize and delete partitions
5) in your PC right-click on Computer, then select Manage
6) Select Disk Manager and then delete existent partition
7) create a new partition with max size 256MB
8) format this partition in FAT32
Now your SD is ready to be used for flash!!!
I hope this guide is clear, sorry for not perfect english...

Sorry, this solution is tested on slow 1GB MicroSD, resizing partition it becomes enought fast to start flash.
64MB is too little and too old Micro SD.

Increase 'Program Memory' for GPS use
Normaly when I try to use the GPS, I got the mensage 'No enough memory to open the Map'. In this case, the only way to start the GPS is to do a 'soft reset', and the normaly the GPS works.
What I can do to increase the 'program memory' and avoid this problem?

The program memory is the ram, it depends on how many programs are launched.
To free this memory you can use software like "Hibernate".
An other possibility is decrease PoolPage size to leave more Program memory...

First of all deselect all voices (Read-Only, Removable Class and Lock card) in WM5torage and connect to pc.
In this way Windows (PC) use your SD like a real disk leaving you manage it!

The situation it this: to resize a partition in a removable disk (in this case a microSD) you need a program that connect the card to windows PC like a phisical drive (with Windows Mobile you must use WM5torage). Other readers are not able to use removable drive like phisical!
Your problem is more complex, you have damaged boot sector and you have no way to start in flash mode! If you have a microSD good for flash with Artemis, you coldn't flash anyway!!! Your phone is dead!
Only way to rewrite flash without bootloader is JTAG!

Hi @ all,
since a few days most of my memory card directories disapperaed. There are only the My Documents folder (which is empty, too) and a TEMP folder I created left on the card.
Although I searched for some threads like this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294324 all attempts failed.
The space on the card is still occupied and when re-installing programms a new Program directory is created with the same name as the dissapeared one. I have one program when the installer claimed to remove the previous version first before re-installation. So it seems to find something (but I assume in Windows directory or registry).
How will I get the dissappeared folders back? Is there any other chance than formating the SD card and re-installing all programs?
I'm using bepe's cooked German WM6 V0.96 (the last one) and a 2 GB miniSD-Card. It worked quite well since a year now...
Thanks for help,
TC

... y lo cagaste, me temo.
trinity, for some reason, spoils the FAT and reestablishes it with new data. the FAT is like a directory of "where to find what on disk".
as yout fat doesn't work properly, especially it doesn't show off the used sectors or clusters, all new storage will overwrite and destroy this way part of your old data.
so if this happens, remove inmediately the sd-card, put it into your PC card reader and pass it trough file appropiate rescue programs and you'll mostly find almoust all files.
so take a breath, download file rescue pgm's to your PC (some work better, others have many options, others ...) and have a try.
after the rescue, format the SD in your PC.
mine is just passing the rescue :-( and it's rescueing about 1600 files yet

I guess this question has been asked several time but trust me..i tried searching through forums but could not find anything that helped
the problem is i can access my phone memory from my PC
i was trying to change my network provider name using this tut >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038470
it says to replace a file(spn-conf.xml) which resides in /system/etc which i guess is in phone memory...i cannot replace using ES File Explorer(says pasting failed)
wen i try to edit the file it does the same...
So i thot i could replace it from my PC but only SD card appears on PC
here is what i tried
1. tried turning on USB debugging
2. tried re-installing drivers using kies (i did not get the drivers with the phone...only got a CD to install kies)
3. removed the memory card and plugged the phone on PC
i have upgraded to froyo is that what is causing the problem?

You cannot access phone's internal memory from a PC (at least not easily). To change files in internal/system memory you can use the "Root Explorer" a paid app, but you can get it for free on Applanet. Then just navigate to a folder and mount it as R/W (you'll see a small button that does this in the top right corner). Or, you can torture yourself with Terminal - first mount your partition as R/W and then cp your files via CLI (commands are identical as in Linux based desktop OS).

Yes, it's a virus.. :s
Edit: it's not an android virus, it only infects windows. You are probably getting random reboots becase the virus changed the names of important files on the sd
What it usualy does is hides your real files/folders and creates shortcuts with the same names linked to an exe.
Best way to get rid of it is formatting the sd or desinfecting it with an anti-virus on a computer. Be carefull because the virus also creates an autorun.ini that runs an exe as soon you connect the sd to the computer
Sent from my E15i using XDA App
so i just need to format my sd,not my whole phone (system, etc) right?

yes it is better you format your sd card and your pc, ie c drive (which ever folder windows is on) and re install windows again.
This is a very very old virus, you must have clicked on some exe file that had this virus

No, but you lose all apps stored on sd card and all your xrecovery or cwm backups. And everything on the sd card like music and photos.
Copy your backups to a not-infected PC or a USB stick, then you won´t loose them

You can boot into Linux, and connect SD card to PC. Then delete all exe files and autorun file.
Reboot to Windows, connect card again. Go to cmd and remove system and hidden attribute from all files/folders. Keep in mind that you will maybe have to swap the order of removing attributes (-H -S or -S -H).
Command should be:
Code:
> attrib -H -S X: /S /D
where X is your SD card letter in Windows Explorer.
That's how I was fixing it on my friend's USB memories and cards.
I experienced that. What i did was searched ".exe" using root explorer in my phone and it will load all the exe. Actually its just the folder name since you dont need exe of androids so i delete it all and after that i search for autorun.ini and delete it also that solves my problem. That easy.

I think the virus infects all kids of partitions and external devices so be careful if you have more than just one partition on your computer.
Also, warn the owner of the infected pc so he/she can do something about it
I think that it's the virus called brontok
You can scan your SD and your PC with that program called Malwarebytes at free edition destroys all worms from your disks for sure try it and tell me if it worked!!
