Most of the downloads here including ROMs are on RapidShare. I understand whyt RapidShare requires you to enter an access code. However, you have to enter only the characters with cats on them. I can't tell which characters have cats and which don't. So I can't access any files. Based on a Google search, I'm not the only one with this problem. Is there another service where these files can be posted?

Appreciate the replies regarding alternative places to store files. Hopefully those who post ROMs etc would be kind enough to use one of those alternative locations.

hello
i have setup a website www.our-xda.co.uk as a portal for downloading roms and other cool stuff that used to be available from xda-developers ftp site.
i have started by uploading artemis roms etc the phone i actually have but in order to be effective i need other roms from the other devices. please can users with these devices log-on to the website and upload whatever they have and i will make them available for others to share and so we can continue to develop these devices.
thanks

You have a PM
Great to see your reposity-making for xda roms. Just a few opinion:
1. See nothing for uploading rom and ext rom.
2. Why don't you setup an ftp server for others can upload/download with resume-option? It's important cause Rom size is always about 40 MB, and upload thru web interface is risky - especially your site is sometimes slow.
3. Have checked Alpine in Download, there is a Rom with size 4MB. No Rom with this size, man.
Thank for hearing me.
It seems that most of the Chef's prefer to upload their ROM's to RapidShare or Megaupload.
Some or more members find it difficult to access these file sharing services due to individual country based restrictions.
Hence to broaden the options and to save on time and bandwidth in re-uploading ROM's to misc servers, I request ALL Chef's to upload their ROM's to MultiUpload.com

Hope to see you use this service

It 'really OK, at least everyone can find the right place to download.
Hello
+1.. dont wanna pay for rapidshare premium
Glad to see an initiative like this.
For similar purposes I set up a 100mbit ftp with direct download myself earlier this afternoon.
HTTP access is available here: http://files.zzattack.org/index.php?dir=leo_roms
ftp://leoroms:[email protected]
server: zzattack.org
user: leoroms
pass: ihaterapidshare
auth encryption: TLS (preferred) or none
I will provide download statistics if requested.
Or use my little mirror
Guess many people are annoyed with the current download services :x
Hey everyone here at xda, Lovely forum here! Learned everything there is to know to about custom apk files, the best software for android and swype!
Last week my Swype 1.61 expired and I was in Panic! no more fast texting!! so I fiddled around for 3 days to get a working swype again.. 1.6x seems to be dead with experation problems.. so started working on 2.44
Thanks to the files supplied by Bec07 FROM the ROM released by norrgrd, combined with the files posted by ipmode_11. I was able to make a working 2.44 DUTCH swype package which can be installed on non-rooted WVGA devices(at least working on HTC Desire).
Code:
TLDR, in a nutshell:
Swype 2.4.44.10912.t100 Package with ONLY dutch language in it.
Usable on non-rooted phones. Put theapk file on your SD, install: DONE!
***Download the apk from rapidshare*** "1.To prevent spam to the forums,
new users are not permitted to post outside links in their messages.
All new user accounts will be verified by moderators before this
restriction is removed."
I will tell you this much, the file is uploaded as:
"Swype_v2.4.44.10912_WVGA_Dutch.rar"
any moderator.. mail me at the mail-adress I regged with on this forum and i'll give you the rapidshare link for the apk I made so you can approve. *wants to contribute back*
To be honest, i think more people would use it if it included the english language aswell, with browsing webpages in mind (and posting on forums like these).
I'm also wondering if its possible to replace te current swype sound with the old 1.6 "click" one, the current one is annoying as hell!
sound replacement isnt to much work.. switching between languages will not work with the 2.4 files I could get my hands on (and trust me I have searched the entire web).
You can include more 'dictionary' files and add them to the language list ("languages.lst" file).
But the menu that pops-up when you press Q, wont show ANY options.. not even the dutch one I added.. So its Dutch only for now. It is possible to fix this if you root your phone I think, but I havent gotten around to trying that.. swype for texting is all I rly wanted for now.
As swype is oem licenced only, and the desire does not ship with swype, we cannot allow users to post swype for the reason it is "warez" to r
be bypassing the trial period.

So I've found myself re-installing the Syndicate ROM several times in the last few days. Been fooling with things a lot, getting edumacated. My question is, I would like to include the Syndicate theme add-on (with battery %) in the ROM to begin with. In other words, I don't want to have to flash the stock Syndicate ROM, and then have to flash the theme separately.
I unzipped both the stock ROM and the theme and it seems to me all I would have to do for this to work is just write over the applicable stock ROM files with the ones from the add-on theme, re-zip the files, put on SD card, etc.
Would this work?
Also, if I wanted to remove say the ES File Explorer from the stock ROM and maybe replace the YouTube app with 1.6.19 and then re-zip, etc. Would that work as well?
this is reposted from jairomeo in nexus forums but this helped get me started:
[THEME] The Ultimate Android Themeing Guide - Updated 4/26
Since we know information for creating themes is spread out all over the place and sometimes hard to follow and understand, I have started compiling a guide using the information spread throughout XDA and other forums. Hopefully this can become a Sticky
I've sent this out to a few new themers and such and they have found the parts that are complete very helpful.
Initially I wanted to wait until it was complete before posting it anywhere, but I've hit a wall on being able to put my thoughts together. I am kind of busy and stressed out with work, therefore I am putting up this way users can review and other themers and maybe start compiling some of the missing information. I also hope for non themers to give feedback or post questions and ideas can be added and maybe get my creative juices flowing again.
The guide is a collaboration of information from many themers/users. I am making sure to provide credit for all individuals writings. I am writing it in word, but posted it in Google Docs to all can view.
If you are going to link to this, please link back to this thread and not the document, this way we can keep the conversation in one spot and work together as a community, to have a document that isn't tool and utility based, but one that teaches people how to edit themselves, and teach with potential of finding more things we can control.
I will update the copy on Google Docs until it's completion.

Alas, I cant post in Dev threads yet (no enough posts), I have to create this thread.
Is it possible to get alternate download locations for ROMs. I have been frustrated recently, having tried to download ROMs just for it to terminate at rought 90-90% and give me a error with a link timeout or similar error.
Not all of us have super-fast boradbands and we will appreciate it if ROMs can be uploaded to locations with resumable and multi-threaded downloads. Else, might as well just give up on Android
You tried to PM the Devs? Just because you can't post in the Development section doesn't mean your PM's don't work.
Also most popular ROMs have alternative "Mirror" links. Just search within the thread to find them.
