Hello,
I'm using WM6 german version by MaxStegi. The problem I have is that our network uses a WPA2-PSK cryption, but I am not able to choose this option in my mobile device. Maximum is WPA-PSK. Shouldn't WM6 be able to work with WPA2-PSK? What am I doing wrong?
Please help me.
I forgot to mention that i use a htc universal.
My answer might not help you that much, but all I read about the Universal was that it supports just WPA. Just in case it is possible to use WPA2, it would only be software based which causes a slower transmission rate.

Is there any radio firmware, patch, or registry tweak that you can enable WPA2 or perhaps WPA+AES on 802.11g? I am running WPA+TKIP right now but wouldn't mind experimenting with something more. At home I have a Linksys WRT-54g router with DD-WRTv23 firmware. It's rock solid and has loads of features with the after market firmware.
I recently updated my Cingular 8525 to the latest firmware from Cingular/AT&T. I noticed that it is supposedly AKU 3.3, which I've seen screenshots with WPA2 as an option for Wifi. Unfortunately, WPA2 does not show up in my options like on the pics online. I have radio rom 1.34 if that matters. I did see there was a radio version 1.38 leaked from Italy but I'm wary of trying this if it's not going to make a positive difference.
Thanks in advance.
AFAIK at this time is not possible to use WPA2 on hermes. till now I flashed at least 7 versions ROM, but no one has WPA2 support. Many people awaiting this functionality. somebody correct me, if I am wrong.

It's possible, but requires third-party wireless supplicant. Got both wpa+aes and wpa2+aes working with Odyssey Access Client for windows mobile http://www.juniper.net/customers/support/products/aaa_802/oac_client_user.jsp

The encryption part of the wi-fi stack is OS dependent so a radio upgrade really won't take you very far. There are a number of reports of a swedish AKU 3.3 ROM having WPA2 (prob'ly the source of the screen shots) though nobody's seems to say if there are more flavors than TKIP. See here for one. The fact it didn't make it on to the HTC official test ROM should tell you something though.
As an aside: I have personally been unable to connect two HERM200 (an 8525 and my TyTN) to APs with the encryption set to dual WPA/WPA2 and had to scale back to just WPA (APs involved: 2Wire and Netgear)- whatever the reason it doesn't bode well for the Herm200 wifi radio.
I tried installing the Juniper Odyssey client and my device became very slow. I was not able to connect to a network at my hopital that requires EAP-PEAP w CHAP5 (or something like that).
It was as though the Odyssey client competed with the built in wireless manger or something.
Did you guys have trouble installing and using Odyssey on the 8525?

I tried it on my TyTN (not upgraded, stock WM5), and it only added WPA+AES; not WPA2.

as described above... its embedded into the ROM.. therefore upgrade to AKU 3.3 or Windows Mobile 6 and you will have WPA2
As Walshieau said, you'll need a recent AKU. I can confirm that the .CAB listed above made my AKU 3.3 device WPA2 capable.
I was using it before I installed my current ROM. My ROM back then was the HTC WWE 2.05 ROM (AKU 3.3).
The ROM I'm using right now comes with WPA2 built-in. You might download that one if the functionality is that important to you.

Wow, i must being doing something Wrong. I upgraded to WM6 Black 2.5 and i still am not offered WPA of any kind. I am only offered WEP. I must not know how to to do it. I thought I was pretty good at this. Why would i not have it? Where do I go to set it up?

Did you run the cab attachment in my earlier post?
Yes - thanks to BKBroil .cab file.
I'm running Black Magic v3.0 on my Hermes with radio 1.48. Although there are drop down settings for WPA2 + AES & TKIP the wifi card would never connect (unless WEP or open encryption was used). But as soon as I installed the SPM_4379_02.cab (& restart) everything works as it should.
My work wi-fi network uses WPA2-PSK encryption/security, and I also use that on my home wi-fi network as well.
WM5 does not seem to support this.
Recently, I was playing around with one of the PDAVIET Windows Mobile 6 Roms on my phone, and I discovered that WPA2-PSK was supported and it worked great!
Unfortunately, that Rom wasn't really very stable (my phone would just randomly shut off with no warning or explanation), so I have returned to using a Windows Mobile 5 Rom.
It's more boring, but much more stable (seeing as I don't have a landline, I need my mobile phone to be reliable).
Anyway, since it seems like the issue is that of software, not hardware, does anyone on this forum know of a way to get WPA2-PSK support on WM5 devices without flashing to a WM6 Rom?
I imagine that this should be possible, but my google searches and forum searches so far have shown nothing.
(And shame on HTC/Microsoft for not providing some sort of update that provides this kind of basic functionality...I just bought this PDA/phone new 7 months ago, I don't like being "forced" to upgrade to a new device to get such a simple thing as software support for a standard wireless security protocol!)
Google for Juniper Odyssey Client or try an AKU3 WM5 Rom (Aserg).
After several WM6 tries, i installed ASERG 3.13 (AKU3) yesterday and it seems to work like a charm. For me, WPA-PSK support was one of the requirements, which works well with this image.
Thanks for the advice!
Was on a phone-flashing binge the past few weekends and I'm really busy now, but I will certainly give an ASERG AKU3 ROM a try in the near future.
Wifi Problem on WM6.5 Build 23529

Hi, i thought this falls under hacking so I posted it here. First off, allow me to mention that my device is an O2 Atom. I work for a corporation w/c has it own internal security implementation. I'm not sure, if the said corporate security is the reason, that I could not detect any access points(AP)? But my pc w/c also has a custom corporate build, can detect and successfully connect to the APs. Can the corporate restrict or hide it from an unauthrorize personal device, like my O2 Atom?
The wifi in my atom is working fine, as I could verify this by connection from my brothers house, w/c has his on personal internet connection w/ wireless access point(AP) setup. I've also used several wireless detection applications here and there, but still could not detect wifi in the office area. Kindly advice.

The Atom (as far as I'm aware) only supports Wi-Fi 802.11b
One reason is the network you cant see might be a 802.11g or n, which is not able to be connected to.. you can nicely ask your network admin to enable .11b backwards compatability.
Another reason is because they are maybe not broadcasting the network name SSID, your device cant see it - even though it is actually there. I don't know if the Atom has the ability to specify a network connection it cant see.
Hope this helps.

can a registry tweak enable this 802.11g or n thing? i saw in one of the threads here the said registry tweak and sk tools has this. i tried both but still no luck would you happen to know if it is hardware or is it really possible to strech this capability on atom?

the g/n wifi options are hardware specific, so unless you want to buy a new phone you might be out of luck, sorry to say.
I'm surprised your network admin has not enabled 'b' compatabilty, but there's so many different security concerns he may have done it for the right reasons. Talk to them, it's the only way to be sure (be warned though - a lot of admins wont like you using non-offical hardware on their networks)

hi snachez, our network admin verified that our APs are running on B and G. i've also verified that my unit is B compliant. btw, my device is an O2 Atom. i think i mess it up with the registry tweak i mentioned before. apparently is it for another device. my mistake this is the said registry tweaks:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS: dot11SupportedRateMask=1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS: dot11SupportedRateMaskG=8
Your problem is probably that the SSID isn't being broadcasted, so you'll have to connect manually.
btw, i'm using a cooked rom. maybe there is somebody out there that is still using the official wm5 for o2 atom, please verify and post the default(O2 Atom official wm5) registry of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS: Thanks in advance...
Hi, I found no post solving this problem, if there is any I am sorry I just couldn't find it...
I have a HTC Touch which reboots when I try to use a LEAP-enabled wireless network (as othersin this forum have reported).
But I have a friend on the same place with an HTC P3600, and he does connect fine here.
The touch is based on OMAP850. This page shows it connected to a 'WiLink mWLAN'device.
http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/wt...00&path=templatedata/cm/product/data/omap_850
Following this link there is a page with WiLink 4.0, 5.0 and 6.0. Both 4.0 and 5.0 are FM-enabled, so the touch must use 4.0. Also, the touch is b/g only (no A), so I assumed it uses the WL1251 chip.
http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/wt...=4711&DCMP=WTBU&HQS=PlatformGuide+PR+wilink_4
By looking at the P3600 specs (b/g), it should be using the same chip:
http://www.htc.com/www/product.aspx?id=470
From what I could find, both processors are ARM9 also.
Since my wireless card IS working fine on all the networks I tried, I assume it's some software problem (as far as I know LEAP is just authentication, no hardware support needed). If the wireless chips are the same this is for sure.
So I was thinking. It is possible to 'copy' the wireless part of the P3600 and 'paste' into the touch?
I understand I could cook a rom with that, or maybe just copy the files from my friend's device to mine, but I don't know what files I should copy...
ANY help greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Do we have any news about this problem?
I have a Elfin and also cannot access my network using LEAP.. The cell just reboot...
Is there any client or software that can be installed to authenticate with LEAP on wireless network?
Hi guys,
my University stopped the 802.11b standard for their WLAN network (only g/n possible). Since that happened my HTC Hero (Elelinux-6.2.0-Hero-Speedmachine-v5-Reloaded) cannot connect anymore.
The guys from the computer core facility said that many HTC mobile phone seem to have this problem because the phone always try to connect with the 802.11b-standard first. Since it is not available anymore, the connection cannot be established.
My question is now: Does anybody know how to fix this problem? Is it possible to prevent the phone from using the 802.11b standard?
Thanks a lot!
Cheers
oh yeah i REALLY would like to know that, too. that's been pissing me off for years. i actually had the some problem with a linuxdriven notebook. i never got that to work.
this seems to be a fairly common problem, can anyone provide a solution for that?

you might be able to use the 3GTurboCharger_Installer.. I think this script changes it.
