Help guys,
I've read the manual, but i am unable to HARD RESET my HTC Herald, I always SOFT RESET the phone because I have software applications problems - but I want to do a full hard reset, hoping it fixes the phone - (the SOFT RESET doesnt work).
I know you're supposed to hold the reset button down with your stylus after holding the two soft keys, but the moment I touch the Reset button with my stylus it immediatly soft resets...
Any ways to get around this?
you should be pressing the reset button WHILE holding the two soft keys. Make sure you keep holding them. The hard reset confirmation screen won't appear until you release them though

witch keys are the soft keys
On my Herald one only needs to press the two soft-keys, NOT the reset button on start up. In conclusion, 1. turn off device 2. turn on device and directly press the two soft-keys. By doing this at least I get some text on the screen and that I should press send to do a hard reset.

Hi everybody,
I just can't seem to reset my K-Jam. I tried it a dozen times but it still is a soft reset. Ok before everybody get's angry: I know how to hard reset (hold the two side top buttons and press the reset button). I tried it in different timings like first holding down the two side top buttons then pressing the resetbutton and holding it for almost a minute. Or first pressing and holding the reset button and then the two buttons but it is always a soft reset.
I guess it is a soft reset because I don't get the calibrate screen thing.
Any tips here because I want to get rid of the slowdowns from the virusprogram....?

Hi,
I had the same problem. Theres a facility in settings called 'Clear Storage'
start>settings>system>'Clear Storage'
this actually does a hard re-set.
Thanks Webster,
I didn't think of that one! That did the trick!

Hold down the Comm Button and Voice Button continuously while tapping the reset hole.
As long as you keep holding down the two buttons, the screen will go black and soon prompt you to hit Send to hard-reset (wipe the unit), or any other key to continue with a soft-reset (reboot).
Thanks Beyondthetech,
I'll try that next time when I need it  .
Great blog you have! Has been very useful in making up my mind.
I'll install TT 5 later now I know how it can be done.

Just a small update
Just to let you guys now. I finally found out the proper way to hardreset.
The trick is not to let go of the Communications and Voice Command button until you have stopped pressing the soft reset hole. Just wait with releasing the two buttons until there is a message on the screen asking you to press the Sent key to hard reset.
Another funny thing is that you can restore a backup (made with Sunny Backup) on another K-Jam device. It still runs. This came in handy because I exchanged mine for another because of some hardware problems.

Which one is the "Sent key".
the telephone "call" key (green handset) (left side)
Can any one explain how to hard reset my xda terra?????
Should be somewhere here.
Otherwise if I remember correctly hold both context keys (softkeys), do a reset with stylus (still hold the soft keys). After menu appears release the keys and press green phone button.
Hi,
For the people who have received their HD (mine is on preorder at the mo.), how are you finding the reliability of the phone. My Hemres and Kaiser left a lot to be desired needing a soft reset every day or so to keep them working properly.
Strange things start to happen to them after a few days, for example notifications for email and incoming calls would stop working, the clock on the today screen would stop displaying all the digits. Oh yeah, same thing happened after a hard reset and different firmware versions.
Thanks,
Mike.
I have the HTC Touch HD a few day's now and i only need it to soft reset because Windows Live (Messenger) was f*cking around and could not stop it.
I'm sure this would relate to what ROM you're using. The stock ones have always been problematic. But build the right custom one and you should only need a restart once a month or less.
no need of reboots after many days of trials. The red button is the only one i didn't try yet!
Do you guys know how to hard-reset this device manually...I mean using the buttons..?
Hard-Reset using Windows OS option I know...but how to hard-reset this device manually?
Nara: There's a button next to the MicroSD slot for resetting, I guess that'll do.
According to HTC's site the following procedure is also for full reset:
Code:
How do I perform a hard reset?
1. With the device turned off, press and hold the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, then briefly press the POWER button.
2. Continue pressing the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons until you see this message on the screen:
Warning! Your device will be set back to factory default settings. Please ensure any additional installed programs and/or user data have been backed up before a hard reset is performed.
3. Release the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, press the VOLUME UP button to perform the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.
On Topic, I've had mine since last monday, and haven't had to soft or hard reset it even once.
Only soft reset I had to do was on purpouse to apply some tweaks.
it is not noticeable if one leaves windows xp/vista on for a a day+ that it becomes sluggish? well, windows in general need to be reset once a day to work properly ie..win xp/vista, so the same routine is especially applicable to windows mobile.
Blackstone SIM card?
Does it take a SIM card. Obviously I live in the US & have AT&T. I can't find any information anywhere that says it does or doesn't take one. & do I want the VAT? Don't know what that is but it definitely costs more money.

Hi!
My only problem is the screen with the clock, has changed and now has a silhouette of the woman you would use for a blank contact, and the clock has changed to a small clock with thin numbers.
Changing things in settings, today, doe not help.
I will do a soft reset in a few minutes.

Hello,
I have a Verizon Imagio (HTC Leo) and cannot figure out how to do a basic soft reset. Does anyone know how to perform this via either button combinations OR a program on the phone that does a SOFT reset (not the full HARD reset). Thanks for any help on this!
Cheers!

that's the whitestone.... look a little further down the page...
Also wouldnt it be the power button that you hold down, i think its not a dedicated button so i will guess the call end button will do this.

Is this to power off the device or to reset the device? I think it is to power off...
Poweroff is a soft reset.
A hard reset blows away all your info and settings. Like a format
Hold the power button down and you will get a prompt.
of
pull the battery
Or hit the reset button under the battery cover. Little red button.
Hard reset is holding both the volup and voldown buttons during poweron
You could try Touchoff... it installs as a cab file and when you hold your power button down, it gives you the option of shutdown, soft reset, etc... or pxshutxp... which is an app that you have to tap to open for the same functions as touchoff....
