Hello,
I have a Verizon Imagio (HTC Leo) and cannot figure out how to do a basic soft reset. Does anyone know how to perform this via either button combinations OR a program on the phone that does a SOFT reset (not the full HARD reset). Thanks for any help on this!
Cheers!

that's the whitestone.... look a little further down the page...
Also wouldnt it be the power button that you hold down, i think its not a dedicated button so i will guess the call end button will do this.

Is this to power off the device or to reset the device? I think it is to power off...
Poweroff is a soft reset.
A hard reset blows away all your info and settings. Like a format
Hold the power button down and you will get a prompt.
of
pull the battery
Or hit the reset button under the battery cover. Little red button.
Hard reset is holding both the volup and voldown buttons during poweron
You could try Touchoff... it installs as a cab file and when you hold your power button down, it gives you the option of shutdown, soft reset, etc... or pxshutxp... which is an app that you have to tap to open for the same functions as touchoff....

Hold the comm manager button and the voice command button at the same time. Press soft reset button (keep holding the other two). It will ask you to press send if you want to hard reset (press the green voice key to hard reset). Easy really.

Hard reset
Pressing the hardware buttons seems not to work for me too.
Other way of hard reset: Goto Start\Settings\system\erase storage.
You'll get asked to enter 1,2,3,4. Then press ok and the wizard will appear again in factory defaults.
Good luck.
Make sure it is on and not in sleep mode (i.e. you can see teh display). press and hold the two buttons mentioned. Press soft reset. Wait for a bit and the screen will go black (keep holding those 2 buttons). It will then ask if you want to reset/format. Let go of the two buttons and press teh sendkey (the green dialler one). It does work....
Actually, it doesn't work for all of us. I had to do it through system settings too.

On a sample of both my O2 XDA Mini S's it did work; as it is listed in the user manual as well as the method to hard reset then I believed it. Ah well.

To completely hard reset the device, you need to hold 3 buttons at the same time (comm manager, voice command and power) and press soft reset button under the infra red port. It will COMPLETELY HARD RESET THE DEVICE, so do it only when you really need to hard reset.

That's entirely right. If at the point that you get the display making you choose between reset or cancel, slide out your keyboard and press the given keys Should work just fine, have done it myself several times.

just hard reset my xperia after trying so many times like the others out there.
just wanna add additional info, you have to keep on pressing and holding the 3 keys (2 front keys and the reset button) until you get the blue screen.
if you press then simultaneously for just a few sec w/o waiting for the blue screen, you'll just soft reset your unit.

Ladies and Gents,
Now that I have been playing with mine for the best part of 24hrs :-D I can confirm that the best way to do a hard reset is to not bother with the holding down of the volume keys and quickly hitting the on / off button - this didn't work for me ONCE!!
It is however possible if you select the CLEAR STORAGE option in the settings menu and key in 1234.
Works perfectly.
Good luck, and enjoy your HD

Hi,
I need to wipe my HD - it's going back and I'm getting a replacement (original has dead pixels).
Does the Clear Storage actually clear everything like a hard reset?
Also - does this wipe the SD card?
hard reset will not wipe your storage card. It will however wipe your device storage.
Clear storage will do exactly the same thing as a hard reset. It sends your device back to the time it came out of the box for the 1st time.
It leaves your mem card alone.
Cool - thanks for the prompt replies!
I suppose another solution would be to remove the SD card before wiping!
Hope the replacement is ok -then I can start putting my apps back!

EDIT: You can just turn off the phone press the volup and voldown button and press the power button it will go for hard reset. No need for opening back cover.

Clear Storage requies Windows Mobile to be running.
Hard reset provides the same function at a hardware level - i.e. you don't need Windows running...

OK, can you make sure that you have got the external battery charger connected and switched on just in case you have a battery problem. Then try switching on or doing a reset (if it doesn't boot but there appears to be power). Just a thought.
how this was happening for you?
Try taking the battery out and then popping it back in before switching it on again. This is a known issue that occurs from time to time. There is no need to perform a hard reset as advised above.

Tried this serveral times but no luck..
Could maybe be a battery charger/battery or phone short (amnongst other things). I think it might be a return to supplier or HTC job. A backup battery charger/spare battery might help or it might waste time. Sorry.
Hi all, guys. So, the problem is the following...
I need to hard reset mi topaz, but the VolUP + VolDown + PowerON method doesn't work. The 1234 method can't be performed since I can't access start menu. I didn't try the VolUP + VolDown + RED button when Topaz is turned on.
I think it's strange that method 1 doesn't work. It boots normally, like ignoring I'm pressing the two Volume buttons...
Any suggestion, solution, guys?
Thanks in advance!
The RED button method worked, but It's strange why the VolUP + VolDown + PowerOn method is still not working...
the soft reset and power buttons do the same thing, it just reboots the phone, and while phone starts to boot, before splash screen appears, is when you have to hold the volume keys.
So it would be;
Power on, THEN hold both volume keys immediately before device starts to boot,
or
Hit soft reset, THEN hold both volume keys immediately before device starts to boot
Did you do exactly this?
To perform a Diamond 2 hard reset
1. With the device turned off, press and hold the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, then briefly press the POWER button.
2. Continue pressing the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons until you see this message on the screen:

This doesn't work. I think you got it mixed up.
ArtieQ wrote the correct way.
No, it works, you just aren't fast enough.
It's just different ways to get to the same place.
The point is, volumes must be pressed as device begins to boot.
I just soft reset and press them and it always works for me.
