Hi all,
I am a noob and don't understand much about how to upgrade factory ROM?
Is it that there is one factory ROM and then an extended ROM which you can upgrade with whichever ROM you want (Vanilla...) or is there only one?
When I perform a Hard reset it automatically reinstalls Windows Mobile and asks me for language of Operating system...
What I would like is some instructions step by step how to upgrade my Artemis P3300 with thelatest and fastest ROM...
Could anyone help please?
P.S. I already have CID unlocked the device...
Thanks

Hi,
I've just bought my wife a Herald (P4350) here in Moscow. It comes with Windows Mobile 5 in Russian and we really need to change it to English. I've been referred here as the best place for help on how to do this but looking around this forum there is a huge variety of information that is quite confusing for the noob (which I am for this type of thing!)
Can anyone tell me how to change the ROM? I don't know if it's cid locked or anything else! You'll need to tell me how I can check, if you don't mind. It's just branded as HTC. I don't mind if the ROM is WMM 5 or 6 as long as it's in English.
Thanks!
Upgrade your phone with the official WM6 HTC ROM. Then if it's still not in english, use any of our custom ROMs as they're almost all in English.
IF you decide to HardSPL, please take note of the SPL version you have or you will brick your device.

Thanks for the advice ivanmmj. The official update is in Russian as this is the only option it gives to download. Can you please tell me what HardSPL means? I notice other people mentioning it but I don't know what it means.
[edit] It seems that HardSPL is something that provides a more foolproof way of changing ROMS. As I am a complete newbie at this, I am worried of trying something that will render my wife's phone useless! She needs it for work.
Is it possible to upgrade my ROM to the official English WM6 ROM found in the Herald WIKI of this site? Will I have to unlock the CID?
You cannot use the official WM6 update to get it in English,
you will get a Invalid Vendor ID error, You should flash the official
WM6 RUssian first, then download USPL.
Now Download the desired ROM (pick one you like there are enough)
And always read instructions!!
USPL
RUU Russian
Read the Instructions in the USPL folder,
Put the downloaded ROM in .nbh format in the RUU folder.
If you have questions please post before just trying,
you don't want a Brick like many of us (including me) have owned

No you can't, Invalid Vendor ID error will occur.
If you really want Hrd-SPL,
Upgrade to WM6 Russian first, Hard-SPL needs an SPL higher than4.xx
You can try Hard-SPL indeed, but flash official WM6 first(!!!)
Hard-SPL

Thanks very much for the info Dutchman! It's becoming clearer.
Where can I find information about each ROM and what they contain? There isn't a WIKI page for them yet.

every official rom....
Upgrade to the russian WM6 first, before HardSPLing and verify that you have the correct SPL version before you start.
Thank you all kindly for your help. I'll let you know how I get on.
Hi, this is my very first post here, in the best site/forum on the internet about PDA.
Here's my doubt: I have an Artemis With WM 6.0 in Portuguese. I want to take my risks in the world of cooked roms and i want to try the artemis touch 4.02, wich it is in english. As I read, we just have to run the USPL and than flash with any rom. Am I right?
Second question is: I have a portuguese rom or at least an extended rom. My question is: I flash my artemis with the english artemis touch 4.02 rom, supose that I don't like it or something else and want to return to my portuguese rom I can use the extended portuguese rom that I have?
Something like this:
1.Original Portuguese Rom
2.Flash with the english artemis touch 4.02
3.Get back to portuguese with extended portuguese rom that I have.
Can I do this 3 steps if I wish so? And if I do all those 3 steps will I loose my warranty?
Congratulations for the amazing comunity...

Don't forget to remove any passwords before you flash the new rom. And it is essential that you flash USPL before you flash a new rom. I made the following order, to success:
1-SIM unlock (definitive)
2-Temporary CID unlock through USPL (CID locks again after next step)
3-Flash a new rom. In my case, I'm using Oops Black v1.
Regarding the other questions, as far as I know, once you flash a new rom, you loose the old one.
And at last but not least, if you mess with it, you can always tell them you did nothing to it. I just don't know if they will believe you.

Thanks for the quick answer and yes, I know I will loose the rom inside the pda, but I have a file with about 51Mb downloaded from the htc website named: "HTC_P3300_PTG_3.13.410.1_4.1.13.44_02.94.90_Ship_R".
I just don't know if it is a rom or an extended rom, in fact I don't even know the real diferences beteween this 2 concepts...
My question is after I flash with "artemis touch 4.02", can I run USPL again and flash back to this rom? (supposely my original one)

Sure. you can allways get back to your original ROM (if you didn't had any problem in the midle of the process). Sometimes when you have problems with the flashing process, that will be you only chance.
The file that you've download is a ROM where you have the OS.
The extended ROM normally is only for add-ons.
Cheers
Hello!
The ROMs which are here posted, are all english?
Is there a way to get ROM which are in german, so i have an german GUI?
Just to say thanks to all on this forum. This, because of my very first rom flashing. And guess what? It went very well. No problems at all!!!!
All because of the amazing people that is here everyday trying to make the pda's world more simple for everyone.
By the way, congratulations to the "cooker" of Artemis Touch 4.02. It is a wonderfull rom, with everything that i use to install as third party software and many more and all this with a lot of ram free. It is very stable, fast and very good looking!

If i want to flash my artemis with the original rom and radio version, is there any way to lock it again, so that nobody in the service understand that i flashed it in the past?

Dear Sir
I have been given a 02 handset and the customer wants me to upgrade the software , something i have already tried on the 02 uk website but this model is not in this list of software updates avaialble.
This handset details are ARTE200 XDA ON 02 UK
IPL: 3.04.0001
SPL: 3.04.000
GSM: 02.07.90
OS-3.4.0.0
please can you advise what if there are any new soft upgrade for this model available and if so which one and procedure
i will also contribute for this forum
Thankyou
As
The only official upgrade is to windows 6, here is a link to the rom
http://www.4shared.com/file/67458555/cf2192d4/RUU_Artemis_O2_UK_342062_411350_030690_Ship.html
1. Backup any stuff you need from the device
2. Remove sim chip and memory card from device
3. Reset device and sync with windows
4. Run the exe file you downloaded and follow on screen instructions
You can also upgrade the phone to windows 6.1/6.5, but these roms are not official and you or your customer will need to know which rom you want because there are a lot of them. To do that you will also need a little more knowledge on flashing like how to use a program called "uspl" which you flash to your device before you do the upgrade.
I am a new to all this... I have a question ? Do i need to use uspl every time whenever i need an upgrade or is it jut once ? As till no what i have gathered that i need to flash each time i do an upgrade and to flash the device i need to use uspl... please confirm my understanding....
thanks.
No,
if you want to install the official O2 Upgrade you dont have to flash USPL ... this is just required if you want to install a custom rom ...
And you have to flash uspl only once ... Verify the SPL at boottime, it shoul be 1.11 or something like that and shouldnt change while flashing a custom rom. Just if you flash an original rom, the SPL will reset and you have to run uspl again.
Hope, you understand my english
Hi everyone,
Initially, I'm French, so sorry for my English
I've bought my HTC Touch Diamond 2 with the official SFR ROM, it's a Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM.
Today, on the HTC website support page http://www.htc.com/fr/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=249&cat=2&dl_id=733 , I saw the official update. But when I'm trying to make my serial number in the box, I've a message who says that the download is not adapted for my device, I understand this, because I suppose to wait the official SFR ROM, but I'm fed up waiting...
So I've found a "magic" serial code to download the file , but I know if I want to install this ROM, I'm require to Hard-SPL my HTC TD2.
I'm ready for that, but I'm asking you a question : If I install this ROM, the configurations are they the same as the old SFR ROM ? I've to configure my phone ?
When I'm install a ROM, is it necessarily to install radio ROM ?
Thanx for your help !

I need this
Hello everybody,
I have bought my new HTC HD2 from Vodafone Germany. I live in Germany and ,as all windows devices, my HTC is localized to Germany and the windows mobile 6.5 comes with the German language and I wanted to change it to English. I tried to download the ROM upgrade to "English-Arabic support" from HTC website but when I put the serial number of my device it says that this version is not suitable for your device and I have found another version "RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.48.405.2_Radio_Signed_15.28.50.07U_2.05.51.05_2_Ship.exe" and when I tried to install it I got an error says "INVALID Vendor ID" or something like this.
Finally I have bought a 3ed party software just to be enabled to read arabic but the language is still German
So please if anybody knows how to solve this problem and help me I will be thankful.
Best Regards,
Amer
install hspl then instal whichever run you like via usb.
i had the same probs here with vodaphone uk...
as above, install hspl, the sticky of this can be found in the leo roms section of this site and it will guide you, but the installation process is really straight forward.. then you are able to install any of the ROMS, be they official OR custom cooked roms..
My personal favourite is the ENERGY series of roms.. but have a good look about, im sure you will find many that offer the practicality and versatility your after!

Hi Ell_H,
Thank you very much for your reply and I have read about HSPL and it sounds amazing tool but another question about restoring the old system. How can I get the original ROM and restore the system to its old state after changing it?
Thanks in advanced.

You need to find the original rom for your phone, both region AND provider(if you were getting invalid serial on teh htc website then your phone is provider locked, so for example you would need to look for the german t mobile rom, if you got your phone from t mobile germany)
Once you have your original rom you can then use sd card method to remove hspl and restore to factory rom. You can only do this with your original shipped rom.
Problem upgradind German Vodafone ROM
Hi,
I have the same problem upgrading the Vodafone ROM. I would like to load the generic ROM or any other ROM that works with Vodafone. It can be English as well. If I try to load the generic through HTC site it checks the SN and doesn't allow the ROM upgrade.
What to do to load another up to date ROM without running into the same issue as Amer? There are so many ROM version out there and I don't want to risk trying the wrong ROM.
Thanks for help!

You need to obtain the rom from vodafone, or use HSPL / Gold Card to flash another ROM.
Thx for answer. I read about HSPL and will figure that out. I read there are requirements concerning the radio. My radio is 2.04.50.22_2 and ssems pretty old. Does someone know where to find the best guide how to do the HSPL install?
There are many ROMS out there and I want to make sure I will not run into trouble using it with Vada. What ROM to take is the question?
Danke!
