Hi,
my “System Volume Information” folder uses about 6 GB by now. One file or folder (strange combinations of letters and numbers) is about 2.5 GB big and it does not appear as a restore point, when I go to the program where the restore points are listed.
All the other points have between 700 and 200 MB. Why is that one such a space monster?
Is it possible to delete these points manually? Whatever I try I get the message that I have no access. I know that it is possible to let them all be deleted except for the last one. But I like to delete chosen ones. I googled for it, but couldn’t find any solution.
Thanks!

Thanks for the tip,
but that is not what I want. I do not want to delete all the restore points except the last one. As I said above, like in XP, I would like to chose which restore points to delete manually.
Is there really no possibility? One file / folder in “system volume information” is 2.6 GB big. That one, for example, I’d like to send to bits and bytes heaven.
Thanks!

Whenever i try ad download someting from opera I get the option to choose where i want it to be downloaded to, however, if I choose storage card the only options I can pick are none or loads of folders of copilot.
Is there a way to specify which folders opera gives me as options to download to?

Yeah, it's basically a very poor replacement for a folder treeview. I don't know what order it's sorted the root folder of the storage card, but it shows the 1st folder and then any subfolders of that, and any of their subfolders etc. etc. etc..
I'm the same as the charliebarter that the CoPilot folder is at the top of my list, so we get a recursive list of CoPilot sub folders, and the list runs out before it can get any further. Even if the dropdown allowed more entries, I certainly wouldn't want it to carry on and list every single folder on the storage card!
It's just crap on the part of the Opera devs. (So is the fact that there's a rather small limit on filename lengths, which includes folders so you'll end up with files called something like "\Storage Card\Folder\Sub Folder\Filena", instead of Filename.)
I don't know if Opera 10 is better in this respect, but I prefer the zooming in Opera 9 so I don't want to upgrade.
New Folder.....
Create a new folder on the root of your storage card & download to that. This is what I do. I have a folder on storage card called 'Apps' & download to that. Hope this helps.

The problem we have is that we don't get the option to save to any folders other than the long list of copilot folders. The list cuts off before getting any further than the many many subfolders of copilot.
I do have other folders in the root of the card. I just can't save to them. I end up saving to the root of the card and then moving files later, but that's just daft.

Get this error the other day, and again last night! Says that I was running low on Memory, and wouldn't let me load the YouTube app! Then Last night as I was using Opera, it gave the same error....
So, did some searching throught the File Explorer, and noticed the YouTube folder was rammed with tiny JPEG images....
I plugged the device up to the laptop, and thouht it'd be easier to deleted files this way as you can highlight and then hit delete!
However, it wouldn't show the "Windows" folders. Even when I changed the properties to show all hidden files and folders....
So, a couple of questions....
How do I access the Windows folder on my HTC via my Laptop? How do I stop YouTube, Opera etc storing all these files and clogging up the memory?
TIA,

Why don't u try Resco Explorer.
Menu--Edit--Multiselection Mode. It will go to the multi selection mode. Then,
Menu--Select All. Then, You just Uncheck those that is not JPEG Files. Delete.
Well, That's one of the ways....
you can access the windows folder on your device by selecting "active Sync" when you connect the phone to your PC.. then just use windows Explorer from your PC..
need to un tick "hide system files" as well as show hidden.

Hi again guys..... Noticed again last night that the device memory is running low....
I managed to connect to the laptop, and show all hidden files and folders... I deleted all Opera Temp files etc, and YouTube files and that only gave me about 30Mb back. Noticed I have several hundred manilla files within the windows folder.... IIRC, they are a combination of numbers follwed by _manilla (ie, 123456_manilla). Not sure on the file type. I highlighted all these and they only came to a few Mb......
Not sure where all the files are being stored, and what is "clogging up" my memory? Maybe browsing on Opera, is causing it. But AFAIK, I deleted all possible temp files etc.....
All I do on the phone is ring and text (obviously), check emails, and browse on Opera. Now and then I may use YouTube, and very rarely use the Facebook app....
Not sure what files I am ok to delete. I don't want to deleting something, and cause a problem later on!
Any suggestions on what to check?
TIA

well here are the basic windows folders that you can clear out.
Windows/app data/volatile
Windows/cookies
windows/history
Windows/temp internet files
windows/temp.
also these folders may be repeated in the windows/profiles/guest folder.
temp folder in root
all those manila files, that actually "is" manila.they're the various scripts codes and layout files.

found a guest folder, not much in there.... also have to delete one file at a time. If I try to delete multiple files it says I don't have permission (or summat like that)... But if i do one file at a time, then the folder, it lets me...........
still stuck, and only have about 12.4Mb on Device Memory left!
also just deleted the cache folder within the Opera folder.... That free-ed up all of 5Mb!!!!!!!
then all I can suggest is running searches for files larger than..... well, start at 500k and see what turns up.
make sure whatever file manager you use is showing everything.
I hope you don't mind answering a question for me or pointing me in the right direction. I turned off Sense UI to save battery life and use the Windows Default setting. On my Home screen, the category Pictures appears and if I swipe to the left or right, the thumbnails appear. However, if I tap the picture to open it, I get the following message:
"The file 'IMAG002' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstaling or restoring this file."
This issue came about after trying to move all my photos from the HD2 to a folder on my desktop. I'm not sure if I accidentally moved/deleted an essential file, but it's almost impossible to view photos unless I switch back to Sense UI. I scoured the forums for an hour with no luck, but I would appreciate any assistance you could provide.
If it helps, I'm using the ROM version (22.May.2010 WWE). Thanks!
Well you could try copying all the files to your desktop, then reformat the memory stick.
Taking for granted that you have downloaded 'Omarket' for your handset (an app that lets you download many more apps), search for File Explore Extension (found under Utilities/Plugins).
This will not install with an app icon to your start menu, it simply expands the functions of the existing file explorer. Once installed, if you click and hold the file giving you trouble, one of the options will allow you to assign any of the programs to open the file types of your choice. Obviously the assigned program must first be able to accommodate the file type for this to work.
This is the easiest (and most beneficial) solution I could think of. Hope I helped
Thanks everyone! SirPhunkee advised me that I was missing the "album.cache" file in my DCIM\MEDIA100 folder. I cleared the memory card and started over from scratch. Ultimately this corrected the issue. Thanks again!

I installed Windows 8 Pro on my PC with two hard drives, SSD for Windows install and HDD for personal files and data, using Windows 7 I was able to add the 2nd HDD libraries manually and set them as default including the Desktop, I can do the same with Windows 8 but the problem now is that the specific Metro apps like Pictures and Music say that there's no files on my libraries...
My guess is that the apps want content to be strictly placed inside the SSD, a registry tweak might resolve this but before I do something I might regret I would like to know if there is an alternative...
All HDD folders have been placed inside the libraries as default but content isn't showing on apps!!!

You might have to use the Storage Space Control Panel App to get it to work, don't quote me on it though as my Notebook only has space for one HDD and I don't want to mess around with it using an external USB HDD.

you have two choices,
firstly you can add your various library to your existing one, it doesn't move everything, all your stuff stays exactly where you left it, id recommend this, mostly because some programs may not like virtual folders and you end up with stuff installed all over the bloody place, to do it just right click on your My Documents folder or which ever one it is, and click add to x library
the other option is to change the location of the libraries, as I said above tho, you may find some programs might have an issue with this and attempt to dump stuff in old locations meaning stuff might not be so obvious to find, to change that just right click on the virtual folder of your choice, say my documents, and click properties, in there you can add and remove folders and more importantly set the folders to defaults for public and normal usage using the set save location and set public save location

yes, I had that setup with Windows 7, thing is that the Metro apps don't read outside the stock folder, I already removed it and made the 2nd HDD folder default, they're not virtual

I have attached my setup, the thing is that the Pictures metro app and the Music metro app doesn't aggregate those folder files...
interesting, that's the same setup as mine, see attachment.
when launching photos metro app at the bottom I have a list of small ish icons, one that says photo libraries, sky drive, facebook, and a couple of network shares, clicking on photo library then gives me a list of all the folders in all the locations

perhaps uninstall the photo app, then reinstall it from the market place, I had all my folders setup before running it for the first time, not sure if you did but if you didn't perhaps that's what has gotten it all confused
the photo app is available on the market place, search for photos, its the blue one with only a couple of stars! :/ perhaps we should consider using a different app!
I searched and checked the FAQs, nothing appeared on this.
Micro. said some blabber about no one used this in Win 7 and that it slowed down the system. I used it, and loved it, along with a lot of other power users if you Google it.
Apparently, there are still shadow copies in Win 8, so I copied the folder to the window pane on the left in explorer. In the address bar, type:
\\computername\c$\Users\computerusername
e.g. \\mylaptop\c$\Spongebobsquarepants
Has anyone else been using this? Apparently on the network, previous versions, including the tab is still there. Anyone have any tips on this? If I could get the previous version tab in the properties section I would run around naked singing.
Shadow Copies are still present, but they're (in theory) used only for the "System Restore" feature that's been around in one form or another since Windows ME. You may recall that on Vista and Win7 you had to manually enable Previous Versions for any drive but the system one, and stuff like that? My guess is that that's why the feature didn't get enough usage; people didn't have it turned on to use it much.
Anyhow, like you, I made very heavy use of Previous Versions and was pissed to see it get cut (the new Windows Backup is almost good enough to be a substitute, but they serve different purposes, dammit!). I'd love to see a way to get it brought back for data files (as opposed to system files and programs only).
There is also "File History" which works much the same way but from a seperate GUI.
The backup files have to be stored on an external drive, but you can get around this by creating a network share that points at one of your local drives.
And it only does Libraries, but since you can create libraries, and put any folders you like in them, it means you can back up pretty much anything.

Ah, I never knew this. I tried selecting the same drive as Windows 8 but it refuses, I selected my other partition with Windows 7 and it accepted that location. I'll see how that goes. Thanks a lot.
