GPS status on tomtom - Touch Cruise ROM Development

When I use Tomtom my status of gps signal goes on and off. When I am not moving the fix is not constant. Is this normal? When I use a bluetooth mouse the fix is constant.

I usually get a good steady fix with TomTom quite fast. Compared to my old Dell Axim with a CF GPS card the Cruise get's a fix much faster. I'm even able to get a fix (although weak) from inside my living room.

To all Fortuna GPS +TomTom3 users

I am finding it very difficult to to get the Fortuna GPS to lock on to staelites, bluetooth bonding fine, (I have the lates rom) but the fortuna never locks on, even though it sees 6-7 satelites. Could this be the London Weather (Heavy grey coverage) Has anybody else had this and is there a GPS testing tool besides tomtom gps 3.03 in case it is a software issue?
Living in London, it onlyh works in Xtract mode, never in the ST, does anyone else have this problem?
It could be your windscreen, have you tried it outdoors. I have a fortuna gpsmart and it is brilliant at locking on to sats. Some windscreens have an ingredient that blocks signals, try it in the back of the car instead of the front too. I have driven in London and the only time I lost lock was when I mistakenly drove into a bus terminus which had a roof.
No windscreen yet
I walk around town for now. COuld that be it? lack of motion?
Lack of motion shouldnt affect it, but accuracy is increased if moving as far as I know.
How long are you giving it to lock? If the batteries die I think it resets and has to download a whole new almanac, if you still arent getting a signal after an hour then it may be a faulty unit, I had a faulty haicom gps that displayed the same problem.
Speed
On Xtract it's fast, on the other mode, barely ever, this is the second one I get w/ the same problem from Vivo/ off ebay...Beginning to wonder. Is this a GPS issue or a TomTom one? WHat would you guys guess?
try this
This one doesn't work, only com ports 1-4?
I tried to use this but it only offers com ports 1-4, and I was unable or could get the Fortuna to work with these. right now, it only works on three ports, either :
-com 5
-BT Port
-the Fortuna Clip On Port
Yesterday, it worked very well on ST mode, then i turned it off and came back an hour later, it couldn't get a fix again. This morning it got a fix in 5mins. Could this be London weather???? Or thdo these things reset in some way that causes them to need to relaod an 'Almanac'???

in hot it is less time not than in cold that gps needs but time to find satellite for the first time not?

sorry, when you say cold and hot, what do you mean?
in cold it means that it is the first time that takes satellite after a soft reset and in hot second or third time that takes satellite. how long in cold and hot?

oh, ok, so first time is about 3 mins, after is about 2 mins, but i must say i only tested once. And i can't test anymore now because my mini-sd is broken!!!! Can not format it in anyway, so until my new-mini sd comes, i won't be able to use TomTom, will let you guys know when i have more info.
Anyway, i also need to say, from the test i did, the signal doesn't seems very stable, it keep dropping out and reconnect it again....

i use totom 6.030 and I-go 2006 with update from jan 2007

i install ALL cards on microdrive NOT in sd card
i have internal with this microsoft gps programm port 4 routed to port5 ..

I have iGo 2006 without 2007 updates. In cold start it takes a lot of time, abt 2 min on Ameo. In my opinion, more then with HTC Tytn or Asus P525. I didn't measure it with a watch. And also because the GPS antenna is internal in Ameo it looks like the signal is less stable then when you have a GPS device connected to a phone via bluetooth.

I tend to agree with you...I'm using Advantage with iGo2007 and have the same feeling...the internal GPS is not quite stable and it's dramatically worse than used with Trinity. When I'm in desperate need for current location I prefer to use an external BT GPS than Athena's internal one.
It seems that it does not react properly, since the connetion seems to be OK.
Just a side note: the GPS receiver seems to be placed on the side bearing the HTC logo, not on the side with the Opera hardware button... I tried to use Tomtom in my car with the PDA upright (joystick at the bottom) and it didn't manage to get a fix... When I turn the PDA in landscape mode, with the HTC logo on the top, it works a lot better (cold fix in the car after 1 or two minutes).

I don't find this. I have a TomTom mkII bluetooth as well as the Ameo. I find that the Ameo is often quicker to get a fix. TomTOm navigator 6 I find the slowest. friends tell me that Igo (with the 2007 maps) is much quicker at getting a fix.

I find this hard to believe: I think the fix is made (or not) by the GPS chip itself, which gives the current position to the nav software every second. The time to fix should not depend on the software.

Slow GPS signal pick up on HTC Trinity

Hi,
I'm having a problem with my new Trinity. It can take up to 15-20 minutes sometimes for my Trinity to pick up the GPS signal, at cold start.
Eventhough this time reduces by some in case of warm start, it is still under expectations.
Im using Schap's ROM which is wicked (thanks Schap).
My navi software is iGO 7.
Does anybody else have this problem? Do you know how to fix this?

Try changing your Radio. I'm in the U.S. using AT&T - Radio Version 1.46.30.11 gets me a pretty quick acquisition even on cold start... Usually less than 2 minutes, even while moving...
what radio are you using?
try one of those:

http://rapidshare.com/files/75905632/Trinity_Radio-1.50.08.11.zip
are you trying to pick up the signal while moving and/or the sky isn't fully visible (in a car, near some high buildings)?
is your igo7 gps receiver settings set to proper COM port or it's AUTO DETECT?

Hi,
I am using my phonewith Radio 1.46.30.11 as mentioned below. And the GPS software is Garmin.
I am facing the huge delay for operating the SW by more than 20 min.
and if not restarting the phone the delay decreases every time I reopen the sw.
please advise for that, shall I change the ROM as well!!
no solution could be warming the GPS faster?
my phone is HTC3600 with WM6.
You can try that :

It's like GPSrapid ...
Just run it each time before using the GPS (don't wait the 3 days) ... It's works fine for me ...

GPS satellite detection

Hi, I've got TomTom Navigator 6 installed on my Trinity and it all works fine, except it takes about 5 minutes before it picks up any satellites when I run it - does anybody know if there's a fix to enable to gps chip to pick up satellites a bit quicker than this? Even when I'm outside and away from tall buildings it's the same. Any help or suggestions would be great.
Thanks

Did u try that software?

it will save a couple of minutes
aquiring a satellite regardless of whether you're using an internal gps antenna or an external bluetooth antenna usually takes a few minutes when you are booting it cold (ie.. turning it on initally) There really isnt any way around this that I know

Try your GPS antenna with an other software or with a GPS diagnostic.
I am 99% sure your GPS antenna does not work properly or at least try your tom tom with an other antenna.
Info : GPS antenna have to connect with 3 or more satellite to determine the position.

Igo8 no GPS fix

Hi, am I the only, who has unfunctional Igo8? Nobody have problem? I try patches, tips, AGPS, quickGPS and nothing, it fixes satellites and after second unfixed and it still repeats... Same with Igo2006, Igo 8.0.0 and 8.3.x... Can somebody help me? I never had this problems befor on Cruise and Diamond.
What GPS settings in IGO do you use? (port and baud rate)
Port 4 and no matter what speed, GPS is connected, but it is fixed after few seconds and starts cycling between fixed and unfixed with 0.5 second period... ROM is 1.40.405.3, I didn't see here anybody else with this rom
i use TT 7.910 and works great!
also try to use gps tuner (off road navigation) to try to have a fix... a see if is a compatibility error with iGo or else

hi, i've installaed also tt 7.910 but when i tourn tt navigation still back from some second after that the tt go ok..
you don't have any lag?
Hi!
I'm using the auto settings for the gps. Its on port 1.
Yes i have a lot of lag. On the highway i lost an exit. I was travelling at about 120kmh, and the gps had a lad of about 700 mtrs.
I already returned mine. waiting for a new batch to arrive. Hope it comes with a new rom.
...
hello,
with igo2008, version 8.0.0.41506, the lag is roughly of 1,5 seconds (120 kms/H). Port 4., Caud baud 9600. With TomTom, version 7.45, lag is 1 second (minor than with igo2008). Measured to same speed.
I,m from spain, Valencia, but this would not have to influence.
Any another opinion?
Best GPS setting I found so far
Guys, the best setting for GPS I found so far:
Go to registry, to path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/HTC/SUPL AGPS
Set GPSMode to 1
Set EnableAGPS to 0
Do not change anything else. You can use CAB file jgeerts suggested, it should do exactly the same.
Set your GPS application to use COM4, Baud rate 4800bps and Type 1 (if your program supports this).
It will take longer time to get a fix (especially cold start), but it should be more stable and reliable.
About the unstable fix:
I also encountered that periodical fix / unfix. It usually happened only after cold start of GPS (it was not used for a few days). It helps to leave it on for some time and wait, after a few minutes periodical unfixing was gone. Maybe it sounds crappy, but I tried Artemis along and during that time it did not get ANY fix .
Thanx, but still no stable fix... I try cab, registry settings and still periodical unfixing. Often helps to disable gps, change speed and then in 90% it is fixed. Did you install Igo or only copy it to SD card, like me? Maybe I have to try Tomtom or wait for next ROM (which I can adapt for me).

I have tested it in two cars with TomTom v7.9, one car without special windows and one with special windows. on the first one I had no problems at all (no lag, stable fix) but on the other one I had a lot of lag and the fix is very unstable (periodical unfixing). I also have the same results if I'm using a real TomTom One device in these cars.
Are you using it in a car with special windows? If that's the case don't expect your Jade to work in it, the builtin GPS is not that sensitive!
Maybe I didn't say that fully exact, I have no problem with signal from satellites, I have about 12 satellites visible, from 4 to 10 active, fix about 15 to 60 seconds, but immediately after fix device get unfixed and it repeats forever... No matter how many satellites visible and active. I have to disconnect GPS, change speed of COM4 port and connect again. Often it helps, sometimes not.

My jade has the same malfuntion too.
Gps has no more fix..
Till yesterday (around one month usage) all was fine..
Weird, This happened 12 hours after using Quick GPS funtion, downloading first time the sattelite Data.
Config. is ok ComPort 4 and boutrate is good enuf.
I am able to see three bars (three sattelite connection) in IGO8 GPS screen. But there is no red and yellow spots inside circle at upper left corner.
I wonder what is the relation with the voip etc.?
tom tom 7.45
i have tt 7.45 installed...it works ok but never has any sattelite bars at all - takes a while to fix ("poor gps reception) but then the planning etc goes well and TT works (no bars at all times). the lag is not there or very minimal.

Version 7.45:
No sattelite bars
Can not use the new V8 maps
Does not warn (sound) if you're driving to fast
Version 7.9:
Has sattelite bars
Can use the new v8 maps
Produce warnings (sound) if you're driving to fast
Lag has nothing to do with the version you're using. I've installed and tested them all (TomTom, Garmin) and all of them had the same issue (lag!).
When using it in a car with special glass, the lag was worse. Using it in a car without special glass the lag was minimal and not really a problem.
No GPS Fix - Solution !
The issue occurs when you have not used the GPS for a long (more than a week) time. I also experienced the issue.
It seems that disabling AGPS caused the issue. So I made a small modification to the GPS settings (registry values) and the problem is solved.
I did the test with TomTom v7.9 and the GPS seems to work fine (no lag when used in a car with no special glas).
In attachment you'll find a cab to do the registry changes.
You need to do a soft reset after installing the cab and you also need to run QuickGPS prior (or at least once every 6 days) to run any navigation software.
I have tested this CAB and still the same problem that Alekss_UH, it fix and unfix signal GPS each second aprox. in my Jade, in TT 7.9 ang IGO 8.3 same problem....

Ths to jgeerts,
The same here.. tested.. but no use..
In outdoor, even some hours does not help..
If AGPS is on it is impossible to get fix..
The only way AGPS must be off, even so, 10 hours later refixing at the same place takes more than 10 minutes..
It is no concern w/ navsofts. I have four major navsofts installed, all have the same trouble..
It is not reliable..
is there any way to obtain support and sp from HTC ??
I have been 2 days with this GPS fix/unfix issue, and I think now it can be a HTC JADE / 3G ROM problem, besides several people is reporting same problem...
