??Phone or No Phone?? - Shift General

I have searched the threads, I have read many other sites input... Can someone who OWNS a shift tell me if u can use it as a phone with your mobile carrier??
Again I have searched the threads read many articles and I still haven't gotten clarity. Some say yes others say no, which is it??
Thanx in advance 4 ur patience & help.

Out of the box.............. NO
When XDA Devs (clever chaps they are) come up with a fix to....
1. Enable SD card
2. Enable Bluetooth
3. Enable phone
Then maybe YES
All the above will require a CUSTOM ROM...
Wait and see the next month or so should sort this out...

thanx 4 the info.

What can a newbie do?

Hi all, another noob!
I've done a few searches to no avail so a simple question with lots of possible answers I'm sure:
As I have just received my O2 XDA Orbit, what, if anything, would the Moderators/Admin guys recommend I do to improve the performance of my Orbit (not that I am aware of any limits so far) or what essential bits of software should I have? Please be aware that my knowledge of computers, PDA's and all this other techno-wizardry could be written on the back of a nano-bot in large font, so please, it will have to be kept to a very very simple level.
If I am too dumb to be able to do anything other than enjoy what I have, please feel free to say so!

You could try reading the wiki - or using the search button for a start.....
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Artemis
But U guess that being a noob you have the honour of asking 1 silly question!!!
Enjoy the forums.

You see, one stupid question and I get access to something I wouldn't have known to look for. Now all I have to do is understand wtf it's all about. Never heard of a wiki before so I'm not sure what to do about that. That link looks great, but again I have no idea how to utilise it.
Sometimes, some of you guys forget just how difficult it is for noobs to this game!
Thanks though.
Since you are not looking for anything particular, using the search would be useless - the wiki is good but has many information for advanced noobies so why don't you start with reading all the threads that you find to be interesting.
I'd recommend you to go to pocketpcmag.com and check out the "best sites" section and start reading about pdas in general, download some apps and get to know Windows Mobile. Try your first registry hack or simply take a look inside to find out how it funtions.
When you have managed this (could take a month or more) then pick a ROM and flash it to your device. Before you do this be sure to do use the USPL patch and make sure you are doing everthing right BEFORE you do it! When your device is "bricked" you probably need help from somebody in the forum. It's better to have a working backup plan before you try that.
I think Meschle's ROM is a good start if you ever wanna try because he included the USPL patch to be sure that uploading his ROM doesn't mess with your pda.
Have fun using this great pda!

Thanks for that...things do start to become clearer. I will check out that web site and I think I now realise that this site is more for advanced users than complete newbies like me...sorry!
I will try a registy hack (once I find out how to do it... )
Thanks for your reply! <beer>

Installing Android in the System Partation

hello, I don't know weather I can ask this things here or not, but .. can ayone answer me , why is it actually not possible to install android in system partation wiping full windows. Developers have done a lots of things, unlocking/editing spl's , so is it never possible to do this? if not, why not? and if it is possible , are developers working in this??
I dont even know how to respond...... Search hd2 Nand android!!
Vijaysapkota, you really need to search around before posting a question like that, particularly if you have so much public info about yourself in your signature.....

On XDA here, is a genius called "SEARCH" , it knows more than 99% of us, Probably try using it next time before opening a thread.
Why??
Dude camon thats what we've been waiting for along time. There are dosen of threaths about that ando u come here and ask that question? Work a little bit and do a search about NAND on HD2 and u see where we'r at.
Why oh why didn't i take the blue pill...
yes there is a way , to bad people on here like to use word search instead of not responding at all , its better just to leave on your sd card being the more apps you install it will limit you youll run out of space .
Guys don't be angry, as you see.. I'm on htc hero currently and planning to buy hd2, and I went just simply over the forum and didn't find it...
can anyone just give a link for the perfect post, please?
and, is anybody porting windows mobile 7??
Guys, sometimes all it takes and requires is a simple "NO or YES" answer and perhaps a few links that might guide the person.
I know we should search through the forum, but trust me,sometimes you can't figure out what exactly to search for.Just saying!

You're right. In the short run, just answering the question is an easy enough thing to do. In the long run, though, you'll end up doing all of vijaysapkota's searching for him in the future as well.
When it comes to searching, we all have the same tools here. Everybody needs to learn to use them. Taking the lazy way out and expecting others to do your work for you is just rude.
I'd also like to add that there's a perfectly fine HD2 Linux/Android Q&A Thread in this very forum, containing the answer to this and many other questions.

Not an expert, but it sounds like other descriptions of the symptoms caused by incompatible SD cards I have read in other threads. You did search before posting, right? If not, try having a look at the SD card compatibility thread.
Either way, post a little more information on your card type and size and you might find someone who can help.
yea i did search before posting ... but i didnt find thread about card compatibility ... so if u someone can link that thread or say the type of the SD card that i could use.

If you go to the WP7 Stickies Thread at the top of the forum (second sticky thread down) there is a bunch of useful links, but one towards the top of the second block is 'Confirmed Working SD Cards'. Should be a good start point and worth investing if you don't have anything handy, by the sound of it.
Link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914780
Worth all of us taking note that the stickies have been aggregated into this single sticky.
yep it's your sd card, try a different one.

cant use hd2 goes power off

hi there! there are a lot of views in my question but no one answers me maybe theres anyone that knows the response,,,,,please i cant use my phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18601638&postcount=3517
check battery pins, if it only does it with that rom - post in that roms thread, or better still, don't use that rom, also stop multi posting, people will be even less likely to answer.
edit - never mind, i see you are making progress in another thread.
maybe u should use a different rom that has a apps killer.. or use some other sd card ?
(sorry dorimanx still can't type in your BEST ROM 4 the HD2 thread..) need to spam some rnd BS here first ^^

Hi, of course, this is for what we are: to help lazies with trivia.
So, my young padawan, learn carefully that:
1. you have to go to XDA rules
2. You have to read it
3. you have to ask someone adult to explain it to you.
After that, you'll be able to distinguish between the General and Q&A sections.
Now, your problems. After many years of meditations in the galaxy far, far away, master Yoda helped Obi-Wan to find not existing planet.
Your toggle switch is smaller, and you can find it HERE
Learn patiently the paths of the Force, and next time maybe you'll be able to help yourself...
P.S. Personally I think that a person who's unable to search in Google first is not able to use correctly ANY phone above the Nokia1100, but nowadays parents are giving their kiddos strange gifts...
