Synchronize Windows 003 Mobile with open source systems

Normally, my PDA gets sync with my office PC Outlook. However, I personally don't have the MS Office suit at home, and i would like to sync my PDA with any other open source application. Is there any thing like that out there for me to eliminate my dependency on Outlook?

Basically you need to install Evolution (replaces Outlook) and some other modules:
? evolution (Groupware-Suite)
? multisync (Sync software)
? synce-libmultisync-plugin (Plugin,for multisync)
? synce-kde (Raki, does the connection to PDA)
? synce-serial (Synce-Conenction)
? synce-dccm (dccm keeps connection open)
? librapi2-tools (synce-Tools)
? libsynce0 (libraries)
? kcemirror (Gimmick: remote control PDA)

How about they actually get a working version on Vista RC1?!?! It isn't even built into the RC...which tells me they are going to have at least RC2 which they have done in the past, and even maybe RC3...
Too much junk in Vista don't work..
Anyway, this is really only worthwhile if you are not using MSFP2 and Exchange for Push..none of this really makes anything better with the software on the device itself..which is what they really need to do..increase features in the software on the device.

An update from the Mobile and Embedded Devices Team: The Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) Application is an independent application apart from Windows Vista. Windows Vista RC1 includes the WMDC driver which enables you to sync music, acquire pictures and browse the contents of your device. The full WMDC application enables you to synchronize email, contacts, calendar appointments and more. The RC version of WMDC for Vista RC1 will ship very soon, while at this time WMDC is only available for Vista Beta 2.

This was added in ActiveSync 4.2 at least. I recently added a bunch of photos to my contacts in Outlook 2003 and they transferred to my contacts on my Cingular 8125 on the next sync.... Not really a big deal, but just wanted to set the record straight.

Have they re-enabled the ability to sync Outlook contact categories in this release? Hope so!!

Once Again...RC1 has been out awhile now...and it doesn't have WMDC....I have it installed, and you have no options to sync anything like the current ActiveSync...my point is valid.

So, they still haven't brought back Wi-Fi sync? IIRC ActiveSync 3 had it but when I was using version 3 I had a Motorola Mpx220 without Wi-Fi but when I got my Wizard that actually had Wi-Fi I had to upgrade to AS 4.1 and lost my ability to sync with Wi-FI >_< </rant> Oh well, I'll try this out and see if it works for me.
Also, I must agree that AS 4.2 photo synced with my copy of Outlook 2003 just fine ^_^
EDIT: I wish that I read the download page before I ranted. At least they tell us WHY they dropped Wi-Fi Sync ^_^

Firstly, RC1 has not "been out for a while now". Secondly, if you read my post or did any research you would see that WMDC is simply not available at this point therefore your point is not valid.

The ability to sync Palm-based devices with Linux has existed for quite a while. However, as the popularity of Windows-based Pocket PCs increases, there's a growing need to be able to sync data from a computer running Linux with the Pocket PC--without using Windows.
The SynCE Project is working on exactly that. It works with Linux, FreeBSD, and similar operating systems.
While the project is still somewhat in its infancy, a number of add-ons and tools exist that work with popular desktops, such as GNOME and KDE. In addition, several plug-ins are available that work with programs such as Evolution. However, it's unlikely that many distributions bundle SynCE, so you may need to do some compiling.
You can download SynCE from the SynCE Project's Web site. This Web site also sports a number of documents and tutorials to help walk you through the compile stage. In addition, you can download packages specifically for Red Hat, Fedora, or Debian, or you can build it using emerge on Gentoo.
Another useful tool is MultiSync, which synchronizes PIM data between GNOME-based systems and a Pocket PC. While MultiSync can handle other devices such as the Sharp Zaurus, Palm, and others, it also works with the Pocket PC, provided you use the SynCE plug-in for MultiSync. This program handles the synchronization between Evolution and the Pocket PC, allowing you to synchronize calendars, to-do lists, and contacts.
If you're a KDE user, you can use the KitchenSync tool to synchronize KDE PIM information with your Pocket PC, using the SynCE libraries to handle the connection.

Urgent Help Required to Extract Contacts!

Hi all,
My spv screen has corrupted, and I desperately need to get one of the contacts of the device. I tried syncing with outlook contacts but activesync is complaining about my profile being wrong / password protected.
I can explore the device using activesync, can anyone help me get my contacts off the device please?

The fact AS works means that any PC based utility will let you connect and extract all the data you need.
i am using Jeyo Mobile Companion to manage my Trinity. The fact it comes with a 15 day free trial should give you enough time to extract all you need.
