The PRL controls which towers and providers your phone uses as primary service. You do not get charged for roaming; however, the Sprint agreement says that your service can be terminated if you roam more than half the time in any month, so leaving an Alltel (or any other non-Sprint) PRL on a Sprint phone will probably not end in a good result. Unless, of course, you are looking for a way out of your contract...
usally u get charged for roaming and i havent heard of getting kicked off a just for roaming that kinda stupid but i didnt change around and it messed up my EVDO now i cant connect to it and help?

Call Sprint at *2, tell them you need a PRL update, and they will set it up for one to download to your phone.
And if you "havent heard of getting kicked off a just for roaming" then read the Sprint contract.
Roaming-Included Plans: ... Sprint may terminate service if (1) more than 800 minutes, (2) a majority of minutes or (3) a majority of data kilobytes in a given month are used while roaming...

I really want to get one of these G2 phones. Att's phones are horrible and their service is going down hill as well.
THe only problem is their coverage in my area is far superior to TMO.
When the G2 is able to be unlocked how would popping a prepaid sim card in the G2 work?
Would the G2 all of a sudden be able to use all of the ATT network with only limitation being edge only? Or would I have to configure the phone to use ATTs data and or voice?
I'd like to just tape the pre-paid sim to the inside battery case and pop it in when needed, but if it's time consuming to make the swap I might reconsider.
I don't think the G2 supports AT&T's 3G bands, so while it will work you won't have any fast data. Why not just get an iPhone4? Granted it has iOS, but the hardware is better than anything Android. Having said that I still bought a G2 because I hate AT&T.

Thanks. I'm aware that I won't have 3G- that's not a problem since I'll only use the ATT sim card when I leave the city- not much.
That's why I ask if it's as simple as popping in the ATT sim card and being able to get SMS/MMS/Data etc without having to change a bunch of settings?
I'd just forward my TMO number to the ATT sim.

By this, I take it you mean to pay for 2 accounts? The only way you will have a TMo number is if you have service with them.
As for the settings, you could probably do it with an ATT sim if the radio bands overlap. As others have mentioned, you'll be limited to edge speeds at best, so it's probably a real bad idea.
Honestly, AT&T's network is pretty bad these days. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's better than Tmo.

When I leave town i hit edge speeds on ATT anyways so what's the diff??
I would have a primary TMO line and a pre-paid ATT sim with access to data for when I hit the few spots that TMO doesn't cover.
I simply want to know if you have to mess with data settings to get data while switching between phones.
Once you swap SIM cards the phone should pick up the network automatically, but is it really worth it to swap sim cards (which includes shutting the phone down, removing battery, replacing card, putting battery back in, starting up phone, as I'm sure you know) just to get service out in the middle of nowhere? I mean I understand the need to be always connected, but is it really worth it?
No you don't have to do any switching. Just initial setup. You have to acquire an unlock code from t-mobile so your ATT sim works on it. Once you do that you can do voice calls. You need to add the APN for ATT in the network settings.
The APN which stands for Access Point Name is basically a collection of settings and variables to allow the phone to connect to the data network.
Since the G2 will already have the T-Mobile settings you just need to get the settings for ATT from ATT, unless you google it.
Hope i helped.

Just so nobody gets confused. Of course you have to switch the sim card, but apart from that nothing else.
LOOK AT THE SIGNATURE LINE! YA BABY!
I plan on using the att card when I know ill be in a remote area without TMO voice or data for extended periods. Long drive, the beach, the mountain, camping etc. I wouldnt switch in a situation that only warranted the need to do a quick switch.

When I know I'll be out of TMO range for day or whatever and I forward my TMO number to my prepaid ATT sim card will txt/mms sent to the TMO number forward over to the ATT number??

Hey guys, I need some help.
I've been using my HD2 for two months now with little to no issue.
I've installed a couple of different Android ROMs with success, and enjoyed using them.
Recently I tried one that I didn't like, and decided to restore my phone to factory WinMO ROM.
Since then, I've had HORRIBLE data speeds...
I'm talking 50-60Kb/s where I used to get at LEAST 500Kb/s...
What on earth happened??
I'm currently on stock WinMO ROM with nothing flashed except for HSPL.
Can anyone help?

Well, I'm using stock Radio right now... 2.08.50.08_2
When I was on Android, I was using 2.15.50.14. That was the same one I had been using all along.
Makes no sense.
I actually did a Task29 and formatted the memory card, too. That should have erased everything.
Oddly enough, when I restored the phone to its original WinMO ROM, it had somehow remembered my Web2Go favorites.

You know, every time you change a build/ROM it may change the DNS settings. Have you double checked those? Most builds use a default Google DNS, but check your carrier, most likely T-Mobile. My thumbnail has those settings that can be found in the system/build.prop file; edit/add to look like mine.
I think I mentioned this to you already on a different thread, did I?

Yeah, but now I'm dealing with slow speeds in Windows Mobile. I'm not even in Android yet. I don't think I'm going to get fast data speeds in Android with your settings if I can't even get them in stock Windows Mobile. Or am I completely wrong?

What's your signal strength? Did you already mention that you're getting "H"?
I know you flashed the WMRom, but what Radio is it? Have you tried changing Radios after flashing stock Rom? I'm seeing a lot of different opinions on Roms from 2.10-2.15, but 2.10 seems to be the front-runner. I'll keep checking...
If you go to the settings tab > wireless controls > phone > band ; are network type and band frequency set on auto?
You can also change APN settings, check for alternate APN's. That's all I've found through Google and XDA...

I set my APN to match yours, and edited my build.prop to include your #DNS settings.
This is what I get for complaining that 500kb/s is not fast enough.
Maybe my pain can help you. I have been having the same terrible data speeds on both my HD2 and Mytouch Slide phones for almost a year. T-Mobile kept telling me to get new sim cards. That never helped for very long. Replaced all the phones and no change. My data slowed down to 50-60k just like yours. Dropped calls all over the place. Data stalling. T-Mobile gave up and said it was structural interference. I called BS. They even offered to cancel my contracts with no charge to me. I called in 2 days ago and spoke with someone in Tier 2 support who had a clue finally. She said I had old sims. I called BS. But she informed me that T-Mobile has new UICC SIMS that are designed for the 3.5G network they now run. Long story short I went to my local T-Mobile store and asked for 2 new UICC SIMS and that fixed the issue. I am now getting almost 4mbits down and 1.7mbits up on both lines with only 2 bars of signal in my house. No data stalls, no dropped calls, and the quality is better. Here is some info on wikipedia about the new UICC cards. They are basically a system on a chip and assist with the 3G communications stuff. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UICC
Here is a whole thread about it in the T-Mobile forum with pictures of old vs new sim towards the bottom. http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/myTouch-4G/Updating-Sim-Card-Does-it-really-matter/m-p/546631

No worries, I was actually referring to WM on all accounts, since that's what you said that you were having a problem with. Searching through Google and XDA lead me to those questions and recommendations. The last post seems reasonable, I would check on that. Also, T-Mobile changed there DATA specs, and I saw that they lowered the bar to 5gs and a speed cap after, maybe you were pulling some speed doing something and they capped it? Don't know, but check on the SIM card deal, see what you got.

I checked... I have a new one. It has the "TM9073" on it.
Thanks, tho. THat was a good thought....
I actually got a text message this morning from T-Mobile:
"Free T-Mobile Message: Due to the amount of data you have used this billing cycle, your data speed will be slowed the remainder of the cycle."
So, that probably explains my 50-60kb/s speeds right now.
It still doesn't explain my typical 500kb/s, though...

It's probably because you hadn't reached the cap, yet. This is to prevent people to use phone as a modem and have internet basically for free, and not use their mobile broadban service. After the "billing cycle" it should go back up.
Here is the lehman terms about the PRL's. People who are on individual accounts will be receiving PRL 60678. It will not have 3G Data Roaming enabled.
Business and corperate accounts will be receiving custom PRL 1115, which does enable 3G Data Roaming in the six states listed below.
For all the details please read the attached files. You didn't get these from me
My FAQ for You:
1. No Samsung device has received a new PRL since 60676. We haven't received any notice of why or when Samsung devices will receve the new PRLs.
2. 60677 had numerous problems. All throughout Florida people were reportedly not getting any data at all while roaming, let alone 3G Data while roaming. So 60678 was pushed out to fix the issue, but it disabled 3G Data roaming for the time being. It may be enabled later on down the road.
3. Manually changing you PRL will not break your phone...but expect your PRL to switch back as your phone does a daily check for updates to the PRL. That is why alot of the community was switched back to 60676 after manually updating to 60677.
4. If you get any type of corperate discount on your account, you will receive the 1115 PRL.
-------------------------
National & Custom PRLs Available for FL, MI, OH, WVA, & WI
Sprint has released Custom PRL 1115 and National PRL ending xxx78 that will impact subscribers who roam in these states.
Custom EVDO PRL 1115 – Provides Business IL and CL subscribers with continued 3G/Mobile Broadband roaming services.
Consumer accounts in these states will experience a loss of 3G/Mobile Broadband roaming services. Refer to PRL Newsflash (xxx78).
Delivery of this Custom PRL is dependent on eligible Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) Phones/PDAs and Mobile Broadband devices.
Devices not eligible to receive the Custom PRL will receive the National PRL and won’t have 3G/Mobile Broadband roaming in these areas.
National PRLs (10078/50578, 20278/60678 and 60778) - Removes 3G/Mobile Broadband roaming coverage for all consumer accounts with push capable phones/PDAs and Mobile Broadband devices.
This coverage was previously enabled with PRL xxx77 and is now being removed since it didn’t provide the expected on-network capacity relief.
In an effort to strike the right balance between customer experience and roaming cost of service, the 3G roaming coverage will no longer be available for consumers but available to Business customers via Custom PRL 1115.
Consumers receiving these National PRLs will still have 1xRTT data roaming service available in the impacted states.
Sprint will begin proactively pushing the PRL to subscribers with in these locations first, then to the entire base. Subscribers with Mobile Broadband devices have to accept the PRL update prompt via SMARTview to receive this release.
Hmm so no roaming and 3g for me

Yes the only rish is that it will be pushed back. Nothing else.
And you're very welcome
(I'm thinking about manually updating to 1115 for the time being.)
I manually updated mine to 1115.
I'm assuming they wont be able to roll it back on Epics like mine that have the DATA & PRL update "internal/unknown error" issue, that still isnt resolved. Mine has been sitting on 60677 since I manually updated it when it came out. (No choice, since the automatic update doesnt work.)
May be it's different on other people's though.

1115 is the one you want. That is the one that enables 3G Data Roaming
I believe the 01117 was only sent to folks in southern MS. Not much of a difference between 01115 and 60678 except for the FL 3g roaming.

It wont, definately not if your running custom roms. This release has been out for about a month in these states already, and also if you call and ask for them to refresh on their end, be prepared to get framework forcecloses, not reccomended!
also for Top Nurse
I get a 28% corporate discount and live in California. So will I get the new prl or only when I jet into one of the affected areas?

You wont need it, unless you travel to one of the affected states & Yes you can update while there as you are under a Heirarchy as an account type/ Corporate - Sub type/Individual, also to everyone else, if you are a BCS/Premier or Business/General Business or Public Sector account you too will get this - even if you dont receive a discout
BTW, This is not a Sprint error, rather a problem caused by higher Gods in the wireless world.
Anyone successfully running ROAM CONTROL on Syndicate Frozen Rom? I cannot get it to work whatsoever. Tried uninstalling, reinstalling, but the software does not respond to "force roam". Wondering if its a compatibility issue with SFR.
i'm using it and it works flawlessly.
make sure you pick samsung in the settings of roam control.
I'm on SRF 1.1.1 if that matters.
working for me (on 1.1.1), perhaps clear data? or re instal? did u select samsung in the settings?
Are you in Texas? I contacted the roam control guy and he said that it won't work in Texas
Works for me, in Texas.. just depends on the ROM.
I'm in northern california. Samsung was selected as well. Ill try clearing data. Will thank all that contributed once I get on my computer, can't do it using xda app.

Roam Control
Is anyone able to get 3g speeds while using this App? It works fine on my Epic (rooted and running Bonsai 4.1.1 on EXT4), but data is 1x.

this has been covered ad nauseum...
Sprint's roaming agreement w/ Verizon is for 1x data only, not 3G
there 'may' be a workaround/PRL hack but you'd have to search more for that answer because I just don't have it and I'm not gonna do the searching for ya

This.
It all depends on what PRL you're using. There is a PRL out there which will enable 3G roaming speeds, but few phones have it. You can manually update your PRL, but Sprint will usually roll you back within 24-48 hours. I've thought about manually updating my PRL, then freezing the service which allows it to be rolled back, but haven't gone through with it.
Reason being, I'm in Chicago and forced roaming on Sprint doesn't work in the Chicago area as stated by the dev of the app.
Works well up in Wisconsin, but not around here.
There's a thread somewhere about updating your PRL...search for it and read through it. That will tell you everything you need to know.

FTFY
I'm content being able to roam w/ 1x.. mostly when i roam its because I can't make a call or what have you..
for me, I'll be getting the 1015 PRL (or whatever it is for corp accounts) when it's rolled out..

I've changed my prl over two months ago and they.switched me back to sprints after about 3 weeks. I chanced it back after, to what I wanted and haven't been switched back at all. Maybe the roll backs are location based? A lot of people say they get forced back to a sprint prl but I never do
